Rachel Maddow just told Chris Matthews that TPM is blaming him as the personification of all the sexist crap Hillary Clinton has to take from the media (works for us), and the reason women came back to Hillary tonight after going for Obama in Iowa (exit polls say 47% for Clinton, 34% Obama).
Tweety was gobsmacked.
I think Atrios gets the final word:
Chris Matthews: LEAVE JOHN MCCAIN ALOOOOOONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
62% reporting (per MSNBC):
Clinton 64743 (39%)
Obama 60322 (36%)
Edwards 27578 (17%)

You’re gonna make him cry
Wahoo!!!
I did like that!!
Jane!
Good for Rachel!
I didn’t see it. Was Tweety more gobsmacked tonight than he was on TDS/book tour?
Jane, you must be exhausted too. Thanks for keeping up with all of this for us.
Tweety deserves to be gobsmacked, the self-important little jerk. I wonder how Tip O’Neill ever put up with his sorry ass.
And just before Maddow said this, Buchanan said the NH voters just gave a rejection to the entire MSM, pollsters, pundits, etc.
Tweety was gobsmacked.
Now if Katrina V. will just rip JoeScar a new one before the night is over, I’ll be happy, no matter who wins the primary…
Is Tweety really falling for McCain I haven’t been watching him much lately.
latest numbers from AP feed … only change Concord
Nashua – 4/9 precincts, 49% Clinton, 29% Obama
Manchester – 9/12 precincts reporting, 45%Clinton, 31% Obama
Concord – 10/10 precints, 40% Obama, 36% Clinton
Portsmouth – 5/5, 42% Obama, 35% Clinton
Hanover – 0 results
Keene – 5/6, 41% Obama, 30% Clinton
AP feed to Concord Monitor, Western towns breaking toward Obama strong, hard to tell if they have enough votes to balance out Clinton wins in East … college towns still no results
I wonder if Tweety got a chubby when Hillary kissed him on the cheek and then dismissed him.
I didn’t see it. Was Tweety more gobsmacked tonight than he was on TDS/book tour?
No. That was a very special and singular moment.
Hee, hee, hee!!!
Russert…It was either
Hillary Clinton’s plea
Bill Clinton’s anger
Bleat, bleat, baa, baa
Seismic shift in the last 24 hours? Is that possible?
That’s from Timmeh.
he-he…
I’m guessing “yes”.
The most repeated word today: Women
I don’t think that Timmeh could care less about the Dem’s. His guy McCain won tonight, so from here on out it’s all gravy.
I just love the fact that Tweety was trying so damn hard to have the opposite effect.
Dick Cheney Controls Tim Russert!
Heh,
msnbc calls clinton
AP just called it for Hillary
Tweetie just called it for Hillary
NH called by msnbc for Clinton.
women without children voted for Hil…hmmmm.
hard to say if that’s without bearing children, or without children at home??? anyone know?
MSNBC calling it for Clinton.
msnbc calls it for clinton
She made a fool of him. As well she should. He has done everything in his power to ruin her. As has Arianna.
Larry Johnson makes a good point, which is that none of the reporting on the polls mentioned that 17% of NH voters who were presumed to vote in the Dem primary were undecided. So, none of them had any business calling it for Obama…
I luv Fred Thompson’s 1% of the vote.
Maddow belted him that was funny.
They are going to shelve Crying game. Work up MLK quote. Go over the data and candidates from the last 4 days.
You must of heard him snoring behind the curtain…
hehe….
KO trying to help Tweets: the entire industry was wrong about hil
‘08 is going to be “the economy stupid” redux. “The Big Shit Pile” hasn’t hit the fan yet..When the voters see that economic disaster is going to happen..Obama is going to loose support and edwards should do better..He is not going to quit.
Time for Obama to make a very gracious speech. We’re counting on you Obama!
And Tweety covers everyone in spit.
It was the dismissing and not the Kiss
Gee, did you see the guy giving a speech, where is he anyway?…
You know, things just turned around for Clinton. Bad time to drag out the scumbags.
ROFL!
For as long as this is a Clinton/Obama dogfight, Edwards has a lot of influence on the Democratic issues discussion (since neither can afford to lose votes to him), and I like that. Also, as many have noted, he’s had a steady national rise; the longer he’s relevant, the better his chances. I like that, too.
Tweety frantically laying off blame on getting it all wrong on “pollsters”. Lucky for him that *he* wasn’t saying that Obama was gonna run away with it.
Ahem.
Hell, I’m not even for Hillary, but I’m glad she’s winning. Hopefully, this will take the air out of Obamamania and it keeps Edwards in, much more so than if it were an Obama steamroll.
AP Calls it for Clinton
I agree
If there is a recession, pretty words wont work.
Can we watch something other than chanting crowds?
Yah, bye.
And he doesn’t owe the DLC a darn thing. Wouldn’t that be special !
Was it something he ate.
Also:
Question: What is the definition of a perfect vacuum?
Answer: The space between Chris Matthews’ ears.
Obama was smart not to take the media bait and not “accept the leader mantle” just yet. He said that yesterday I think
the national media is too much… really. NH and Iowa are different states, with different people, who have different concerns. There doesn’t need to be a “seismic shift” in 24 hours for their two primaries to yield different results. Really.
CNN is refusing to follow the lemmings and is not calling it–worth noting that it is still a close race.
And I’m guessing the money spigots now get turned on again.
Oh, but the kiss made it all the more better.
Interesting, since this is what Bev Harris at BlackBoxVoting wrote earlier today:
Apparently 80% of NH uses the exact same model of machine used in Florida in 2000. The same kind where it has been proven had 16,000 votes subtracted from Gore late in the eve. Gore then won the hand recount of that same area. Just saying…
Nah thats putty between them thar ears :)
I don’t think we should accept the results of this election without challenging the machines. The people voted on paper ballots, but they were counted on optical scanning machines and the people who count them have lots of opportunities to manipulate them. There are many security problems with these machines that have not been fixed. Exit polls are not lining up with the results.
http://blackboxvoting.org/
Just get home, & KNX news radio called it for Hillary on the way into the garage. “Huge Dem women turnout in New Hampshire.” Ohhh, that has a nice ring to it…
I wonder if Arianna is having gas pains? Maybe she will stop using unflattering pictures of Hillary?..not likely.
Yeah, me too. I think, for me, it’s the feeling that more voters will have a say instead of everyone following suit or something.
Congratulations to Clinton on a big win.
It is going to make a great week of spin, and polls. I guess if they have similar policy votes Hillary does have more exerience.
Gonna have to mull on this for a while, but for sure NH is a great primary state. Always up in the air, subject to fits both wise & dumb.
Also want to see the money numbers as she had a TON of signs. But I thought much more Obama people canvasing.
I can’t imagine any kind congrats-to-McCain speech from Fred or Rudy. They didn’t give a crap about NH.
It’s an election, people. I guess we should all be glad……
Heh, my wife just got back from an errand, and, I told her Hill was just declared the victor, and her first words were; “It must’ve been the tears…” I about died… *g*
Gravinich has now sunk below 2%. I’m beginning to lose hope…
Hilary needs Tweety to pick on her more if she wants to win. Tweety now has a choice if he attacks Hilary he helps her or Tweety could be quiet for once and that would hurt Hilary. Bwahahaha!
Tweety trying to weasel out by saying Clinton’s team also believed the Titanic was going down.
Shorter Tweety: “I didn’t start the rumor…maybe, but…but…but they helped spread it.”
Yahoo ‘political dashboard’ is saying that Clinton gets 8 delegates, and Obama gets 8. So did they TIE??
Absolutely right, Jane. Matthews and the MSM bash Hillary, and her supporters forget all about her penchant for kissing rightwing ass, and turn out in droves to vote for her. The MSM has you guys by the cerebellum. They hammer on her, and the issues don’t mean a damn thing to you.
Again, if she weren’t a woman, and if her name were not Clinton, that peckerhead-vote-chasing, FoxNews-and-Rupert-Murdoch frenching vote of hers to make flagburning a federal crime, BY ITSELF, would have had you guys working like navvies to defeat her. Instead, we’re getting a preview-in-reverse of what the general will be like, if we’re politically suicidal enough to nominate her.
If we nominate Clinton, the huge issues with which we have a wonderful chance to run the bastards back under the bridge won’t mean diddly, for the simple reason that the republicans will be delightedly make HER the issue.
And it will play, and play large, and we will be sitting around the day after the election pissing and moaning about “how could this have happened?”
And if it does, it will be because a lot of people awarded the democratic nomination as a consolation bandaid because conservatives purely hate her, to a candidate whose positions, in the highest and craziest of ironies, come very close to theirs on many issues, most notably, Iraq.
There isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between Clinton’s “plan” for Iraq, and George Bush’s. And that means that she can’t make it an issue, and that means that we won’t win this election if we nominate her.
So, boys and girls, you pays your money and you takes your chances, but just take a good, cold-eyed look at the number that you’re putting your chips on, because this year, EVERYTHING is riding on it.
Women breaking 47% for Clinton in NH. WNYC (NPR) is also saying that Hillary garnered more young voters in NH than in Iowa.
Da Comeback Kid II!!!!! I was sayin’ all day that this race was not over and I was assuming BO would win pretty big. So what happens now? All that money that wasn’t gonna come Clinton’s way is gonna start pourin’ in?
MSM starts beating the shit outta BO? Republicans wack-off at te prospect of facing Hilary in the general? I dunno and I wish the msm would just admit they don’t know either. It’s a fun season -watching the R’s is entertaining. Gotta get some coffee on to see if Rudy beats Paul. That’ll go down to the wire. And what is Fred pullin? 2%? What a disgrace to have him in that debate. the people who talked him into runnin’hamed of themselves.
But she will be forced to compete in SC and Nevada
If Edwards drops out at some point, do those votes go to Clinton or Obama? Mine would go to Obama if Edwards was not on the ballot.
I’m glad that this gives Edwards a chance.
This is too freaking funny. I have a chihuahua and an American Eskimo. I howled about how happy I am that Hillary is ahead, and they howl with me! My ears hurt!
True on econ. You know they might sell and argument that Bill was great on Econ and as econ tanks you don’t want Edwards with his —- (whatever), you want the proven change of Clinton surplus. Don’t know how dangerous this would be.
In any case shows that each state can make up its own mind. Please get Edwards some states folks! After all NH went for Bush in 2000.
Which Edwards supporters are ticked that he gave the same speech? He needs to inspire the voters. He gets a national stage and gives the same effing speech. Doesn’t he know we were listening last time?
maybe Lou Dobbs is still hoping for a miracle turnaround for Hunter… maybe he thinks Dems will write him in. Seriously, why is Hunter still in this race? Not that our county wants him back or anything, but whatever…
Okay, whomever wins New Hampshire get what how many electorial votes?…
Four?…
Whoop-de-doo….
Great – Clinton is superstitious just like McCain. What is wrong with people thinking magic nickles are going to do something—- dumb.
Look. If Reid can be elected in Nevada so can Hill.
I guess Senator Clinton put the brakes on Obamomentum…
This from Blackboxvoting:
UPDATE: 4 pm EST Jan 8: The first order of business tonight needs to be to compare results in the hand counted paper ballot locations vs. the Silvestro-programmed Diebold machine locations. Here’s a link to feed for AP results when they come in:
http://www.thetelegraph.com/ne…..shire.html
Comma delimited database: NH municipalities hand count vs use Diebold machines: http://www.bbvdocs.org/NH/stat…..ems-NH.txt
How would Tweety react if Hill suddenly turned on the waterworks during one of his Interviews…? Ain’t no man-scent there… *g*
Terry Mc- there are contrasts in people records. Is it true that Clinton and Obama only have 4 small voting differences (or is this utter falseness)?
And that is as it should be.
They really don’t need ‘em do they. The old scumbags ya mean, right? She’s fully staffed with scumbags now as it is.
Obama may have held off claiming frontrunner status because his internal polls probably showed that it was too close to call. I agree it was a smart move.
give it a break bubba
*raising hand* He’s been saying the same thing for weeks now. (I like it, but still) — clearly those lines aren’t working, mix things up a bit when you have the national stage! Come on John!
Does that save Penn’s job…? Hmmm…?
Perfect that could win it for Hilary.
Hey now, tanbark!
no one has forgotten the bush ass kissing!
I think we’re celebrating the fact that the media got some comeuppance tonight. yay.
Agree. Interesting exit polls over at Politico show that Hillary has what might be called the “Democratic base”: non-college grads, income under $50,000, etc. Obama gets the young people, the intellectuals, and those with high incomes. What’s interesting is that Hillary’s base is also Edwards’ base, with one exception: John cleans up among voters who think the candidate “cares about me”; lowest rating (really low) for “cares about me” is Obama.
Well said!
Alright. Hope NH is not choosing another Bush or Sunnunu. I will give her one more look, but think I am going to see the same. Anyway back to hard-knocks.
Today for some reason the old white idiot teevee guys are driving me to distraction. Most of the time I pretend they are women in drag.
Matthews was one of the first to trumpet Hillary’s inevitability. He then passes on without missing a beat to forecast her premature demise. There is simply no there there.
Beerfart on SC and NV: They don’t mean shit. But HRC’s gotta compete? Hey, bring ‘em on.
Thanks KO. that’s why people get excited: a woman won a primary election. In Iowa, more history with a black winning. History.
It’ll be some kind of history, too, if a white male dem wins in a crooked GOP voting machine too.
I’m no HRC fan, but just for the sake of the sharp stick in the MSM’s eye I’m kinda glad she took NH.
Yeah, that HuffPo Hillary coverage has been bizarre. It was Drudge-like.
Yep! The winner in these primaries are essentially psychological…not actual. It’s the bigger Primary States like New York and California that may be critical.
But I do have a question for the experts out there. Does a State like Texas have a lot of Democratic delegates? Are the numbers based upon State population (i.e. Congressional Reps) or is it based on the size of the actual party or turn-out.
Also, assuming that Obama has a smidgen more delegates assigned from the primaries and caucuses…could the Convention still go to Clinton because she may have more “assigned delegates”?
Seriously, can anyone remember so many polls being so far off? Literally every poll I saw the last two days had Obama up 7%-14%, with the one described as always skewed to Clinton (Marist was it?) even having Obama up for the first time yesterday.
So if she wins by 4%, every single poll was off by at least 5%?
I can’t remember such a shift.
That’s exactly right!
I prefer Edwards, but I’m glad to see HRC kick some MSM ass.
Tweety’s reaction would be priceless, too… *g*
This is the first time I heard the speech. I think its better than anything anybody else has said. Of course McCains Speech tonight has lowered the bar.
Interesting…
Could you imagine a woman laughing like Chris Matthews?…
Most Edwards votes will go to Obama. I am sure they will do a poll on it soon.
Like everyone using U2.
Also I think KO is wrong again – Obama will say something else other than he came out #2.
Hillary giving the 10 minute warning.
Edwards is double Huckabee tonight is the number 3 position.
What is missing in those numbers are the 17% undecided. Looks like a good number went for Clinton.
Matthews is a buffoon. I hate to think he could have led to Hillary’s victory. Obama about to speak.
punaise said it even better at 102 ROFL.
Sexist Crap From The Media:
Hillary Answers No Questions from Media or People:
Sexist.
HRC Votes for Patriot Act Both Times:
Yeah Sexist. Oh that’s very Sexist.
Obama’s got a great poker face.
Open your eyes they are all in drag Tweety, Tucker, Tony Blankly, Bill O’Reily, Ann Coulter (a man in drag)
If as some are speculating, the women broke more heavily than expected for Hillary, it could be because of how the whole “tears” episode played out, both in the media and between HRC and the other candidates. That would have been too close to the election to have been reflected in the polls.
Yeah KO and MSNBC – maybe talk issues and not who is going to win it (psst. its in the future so at least spend some time).
Obama up.
____________
Tanbark this is good stuff. Are you British? I had to look up navvy.
OOOH! Hillary got that ever-important “Spinster Vote”!
“Spinsters” the new “Soccer Mom”!
Maybe they were actually casting black magic spells, too!
Well once Iowa, NH, SC, and NV have voted the majority of delegates will have been chosen, right? Small states like California, Illinois, and New York won’t make much of a difference.
Nice crowd response for Obama…
Wahoo!…
get a life, okay?
She would be tagged as insane.
Today for some reason the old white idiot teevee guys are driving me to distraction. Most of the time I pretend they are women in drag.
Oh great. First you changed the meaning of ‘clown-car’ forever – and now I’ll never be able to watch the news again without thinking of … Arrggghhhh !!!
I agree. The free media (when he gets it) is so valuable because he gets so little attention, he really needs to change it up a little. I’m dissapointed in my man. Was hoping he’d crack 20% and push toward 25%. He says he’s in it to the convention and I’m with him.
When I told my sister in Massachusetts that OBama was on a roll and might take NH, she said “Oh no, Hillary has most of the vote there.” These states are so tiny, everyone knows everyone. They do their own polls. But one interesting note and sort of unnerving…did anyone catch that Dixville Notch made McCain the winner and they supposedly have always picked the future president of the United States.
Hillary’s margin of victory, if it turns out to be one, is slim, and NH is a tiny state.
Lots of trouncing in the next two weeks for the Hillster.
I know. it totally sucks for me. (CA)
Bonkers, I’m afraid that hardly anyone seems to be worried about the threat from the computer voting machines. Exit polls that don’t match should be a red flag, but we continue to accept the results at face value and I don’t think we should.
Better than thinking of them as naked.
It’s a tough job but someone has to do it.
Ah yes. What’s with those CT and NH “centrists” always voting for entrenched war mongers? First Holy Joe over Lamont and now Clinton over the future.
C’mon South Carolina!
people turning out because they know in their hearts that this time must be different.
people don’t just vote for party but for the hopes they hold in common.
good stuff.
I’m heartened by this. I’ve been complaining that my vote in the primary wouldn’t matter much. Now it just might. I’m glad Hilliary won tonight.
Somehow I don’t think women with children no longer living at home would classify themselves as women without children. Once you’ve got em, you’ve got em forever, whether they live with you or not.
bo supporters chanting WE Want CHange!
Tweety…maybe the people called up in the poll didn’t tell the truth…he just accused the people called as having lied to explain why he was wrong!!!
I’m not so sure about that. If they’re Edwards voters now, the are probably a bit more conservative than Obama’s, and a portion may therefore find a home with HRC.
I think “spinster” is code for lesbian.
Hiya Jane!
I just did my post on the primary and what it means for Hillary.
Well, that’s what i was guessing (I asked the original question) but just wanted to make sure others saw it that way. A census taker might see it differently…
Good Point
My next door neighbor just came over. First words out of his mouth @ the front door, “It’s Hill- she did it!” I’m making a couple of Sapphire & tonics for us to enjoy while watching the MSNBC coverage (on mute- Johnny says the pontificating pundits are hard on the ears this evening).
Better than thinking of them as naked.
okay, you’re on double-secret probation now too… acckkkk
*g*
Except, of course, when they didn’t. Just ask President Dole (among others).
bo: tyranny of oil
end this war
bring our troops home
wow, so much excitement…it’s just so wonderful to contemplate life without king george…he is now what the brits call redundant. so long george.
Hate to be a party-pooper, but I can’t help thinking that African Americans continually overpoll, and that maybe thats what happened here.
Even though BO is not my first choice (I’m Edwards all the way), I have been heartened by the fact that Iowa would vote for a black man in such numbers. Now, I’m left shaking my head.
I just took a 5 minute break. And in that 5 minutes, I decided that I don’t trust these results. Which sucks. Whether they’re accurate or not, the very fact that they’re not trusted is a huge problem. Hello, Kenya.
So HRC’s narrow victory in tiny NH will stop the Dover coffins by tomorrow morning right?
Is Obama’s “new majority” phrase new, or has that been a part of his stump speeches?
Disagree. Not “may” be critical. WILL be critical. Or very important at least. i think NY is a closed primary and that’s her home state. I know NJ is a closed primary and the last poll I saw from there in mid-Decemcer (Quinipac) had HRC leading BO 51-17! Don’t know shit about what’s going on in CA but those three states on Super tuesday are gonna give her an ample number of delegates. Plus the super-delegates. this race was never over no matter what happened tonite.
Wow. We are going to get CHANGE.
Nice speech Obama. Built it up. Great speech.
He is fudging the question it was The MSM and Tweety in particular who made Hilary’s crying an issue repeated over and over again on TV. The polls were probably right but Tweety changed them… and he can’t face the thought that he probably gave Hilary New Hampshire.
Obama doing a good job on his speech.
I think that part of the problem is the prediction of the cross-over vote. NH was an open-primary state so they have to use “models” to predict both the amount of crossover, as well as the actual turnout. That increases the margins of error to substantial levels.
So HRC’s narrow victiory in NH will stop the diluted emails and get Mukasey to turn over Fitz’s interviews of Rove, Cheney Bush right?
Super tuesday has NY, NJ & CA, no? That’s alot. Or no CA?
OK brace yourself. Back east they’re called “states”. Out here in California, we call them “counties”.
Again, I confess to my Primary Envy.
I don’t recall hearing it before. Not saying it wasn’t there — just that it’s new to me.
Obama and Hills say change, hope, future, move forward, progress, new, improved, better, smarter, faster, stronger, wiser but they won’t say how.
The only ones who would tell us how are behind us in the rear view mirror. Can we go back and pick them up?
For Cassie: A new system of assuring accuracy in voting has been formulated by MIT researchers.
http://rangevoting.org/RivSmiTB.html
Also, these primaries are not winner-take-all. The important count is the number of delegates, and the Dems have a very careful, fair process of awarding delegates. We don’t get the real story from the MSM on a night like this. And – in Iowa, Obama is almost a favorite son (neighboring state of Illinois), so that influenced the results there.
I am sure you will get a good grade on your paper. Thanks for being involved.
Karen
Completely agree. Can’t understand the lack of apathy about the voting issue in the Netroots. We can go on and on about particular issues of inviduals in the media or politicans, but I’ve been bringing this up for years now with links and so on, and it’s usually met with *crickets*.
Everything else we do is virtually meaningless as long as elections keep getting stolen (not saying tonight was necessarily).
Don’t get it….
Pete – give it a rest. Tomorrow’s another day.
minus “lack of”
Tanbark, show us your shit.
One thing that can gleaned from tonite, is the fact, both conventions should be raucous affairs… Pass the popcorn… ;-)
And your point is…what?
Super Tuesday, or tsunami tuesday as it’s now been dubbed also has Illinois, another big state.
Going to have to look at Obama again. And he is bringing in some great fired up people.
He also had the great Database (DB) to lookup pork spending. Thats nice.
Yeah I know. Just getting caught up in the liveblogging mode…I’m for edwards. was hoping he would crack 20 percent also.
It looks like Obama’s going to keep on going through the opening of the 11 PM ET news broadcasts, pushing Hillary later . . . I’m guessing that her media folks, hoping to time her speech for the top of the hour, will not be pleased.
My whole post was about the number of delegates.
Obama – my heavens, that man is an orator.
Loo Hoo! Congrats!
That caught my ear too.
I’m loving all the energy and activism and the big wins for us dems, but it’s diluted by the fact that we cannot trust the results. And that’s not right….after all this work we should be able to accept the results.
Primaries Open or Closed
Speaking strictly for myself as an Edwards supporter, my support would swing to Hillary. Even though I HATE her vote on Kyl-Lieberman, that’s where I would lean. But, I’ll be very disappointed if Edwards doesn’t make it.
signed sealed delivered. is that Obama’s campaign song?
I heard it last night at a ball game and thought it would make a good one.
Whether he wins the nomination or not, I want him to speak at the convention.
I need some clarity so I’m off to see a re-run of my heros Stewart and Colbert—-
See you pups later—–
Is Tweety going to make fun of the way he spoke at 9 minutes in?
By my count its Edwards + Obama (DK) against Clinton + Richardson (and I am not so sure all of his people voting for him know him).
According to Glenn Greenwald, Edwards is the only candidate who is surging nationally. People are just tuning in, and while we’ve heard that speech over and over, some folks are hearing it for the very first time.
He does need to speak more visionally, though. What America can be, not just what’s wrong.
I’m glad you highlight the number of delegates. Sooner or later, the MSM will wake up from their bar-hopping and figure this out too. Late, but that’s what our MSM does.
I’d expect this about time the convention rolls around.
I can’t wait to vote on tsunami tuesday. I’m trying to pick a candidate, and I only have one issue: Iraq. No candidate who voted to authorize the war in Iraq will get my vote. For whom should I vote?
Does anyone know what is happening at huffpost? I can’t seem to get in. Is it me?
To myself. CA is that day. So is IL ut it’s only about 1/2 the delegates of NY. HRC is OK and always was. Florida is the 29th and we’ve been fucked. that would have been an interesting spectator sport. Only candidate who’s come here is Gravel. I’m gonna say it one last time. If HRC gets the nomonation, take out your crayolas and color FL red.
Obama would give a great Inaugural Address.
They are the corporate media and not mainstream.
The MSM is poised to clobber Hillary. Check out the stupid picture on Yahoo!
A worse foto would be difficult to find.
Jayzuz I’m laughing my ass off.
It’s no secret I’m no fan of Clinton’s politics, but even I’m surprised by how delighted I am by this.
Women are sending a message, it seems, and I like that very much from a movement perspective. It portends all kinds of good possibilities, just the way the huge youth turnout for Obama did, and the cross- racial alliances for him.
spidey, i was able to get into huffpo
TANBARK JOHNSON IS RIGHT!!!!!! *G*
CNN called it for Clinton.. 8 delegates for each of the two senators
I urge everyone to vote for the best person for the job as you will.
F you Tweety. He is trying to f’in be a pundit to Tom F’in Browka! Listen to Tom don’t constantly talk about what people are going to do i nthe future. SHUP UP TWEETY. SHUT UP. Ohhhh….Tweety says there are a few schools and businesses that make money from polls.
Also in NH we lie to poll people if they are even competent enough to do a poll.
GO TOM. LEAVE TWEETY.
Jon Stewart is live and he’s hilarious.
I got in too just fine right now.
Give it up. I totally respect you on your list. But what the hell do you mean.
Here comes Tweets Obsession!
yup – winning does a body good… Hillary looking extra glowy tonight…
please, no jon stewart spoilers for us west coast types, thank you
Hmmmm Tweety she look IMBUMITABLE?
Thank God they had Tom there to clean up Tweety’s pee-pee and lead into Clinton.
Hillay’s up on MSNBC
Great to see the pundits proved wrong …
but not so great to see the most conservative candidate win …supported by the anti-progressive Shaheen parts of the state …
I don’t know if it matters. he’s not surging in the early primary states. i’m with him all the way to the convention tho’-surge or no surge.
Similar, but different from my delight at Huck’s trounce in IA.
The pundit class will be the first disfunctional group to go.
Meanwhile, JRE needs to hang in there….
I’m still for Edwards, but the NH Dem turnout is effing grand, init. Thanx, New Hampshire! Send that message out loud & clear: BushCO Repudiation…
CNN “Exit polls showed issues swayed Democrats but Republicans were moved by personality”
Rethugs never learn, do they?
Notice the young people standing behind Hillary. The Clintons seldom make the same mistake twice.
Here’s a TDS and Colbert spoiler….there is a writers strike!
Better not be a Word of the Day tonight – thats right keep it blank.
Colbert in SC.
Same here! Strange…and pleasant!
He meant to say ebullient, but didn’t.
Yep. Nothing worse than this being over too soon.
I’m a feminist woman, and I’m starting to realize that I really don’t want to have to vote for Hillary for President.
My point is first of all, Hillary won in a tiny state. Obama will roll over her,and you’ll see it in the next few days.
This is a woman who is such an arrogant princess she would not take questions from the media or from people at her events because she was and still is afraid of them. Voters from the large states recognize this and will make her feel it.
Second of all look at the way the primaries are open or closed. I linked it and it matters.
Third you still have all but 3 Democrats in Congress who are resisting your chance for any semblance of a Bill of Rights, and jumping exactly when Bush says jump
Fourth you have voting machines that could have been hacked and could be hacked every step of the way and nothing changes that.
Fifth you still have 3 completely spineless leaders in Reid, Pelosi, and Hoyer. And you’re stuck with them.
Yes they learn. And then they become dems!
this is good. Rethug hopefuls will have to waste their powder and energy attacking both senators, instead of focusing on their own non-existent candidacies.
VeryOldMother called (a Clinton supporter) and she is as happy as I’ve heard her in a long, long time…
I’m liking it!
Hillary “I listened to you, and in the process, found my own voice.”
Excellent line, I must admit.
Dubya has just been delightful, hasn’t he?
No.
same here ….same here
Ummm….lets fire it up. Last thing people want to hear from a candidate is more about the horse race.
Gotta have a true speech ranking. Edwards booster here that knows Obama speech is first.
With Clinton saying its “not a game” in an insulting tone to us Edwards and Obama tone is pissing me off and saying she is at best 2nd best speech. Of course she has the W which is more important, and her super-delegates wont bail.
Oh, she is going with Edwards message but with a weaker speech it seems.
Anyway I will respect that her supporters will see it as a better speech.
Apparently Jon Stewart spent his entire show last night bashing the producers and supporting the strikers. He’s using clips from the campaign and ads and he’s funny, funny….just what I needed.
“The predatory student loan companies…”
And who was that turd-brain I saw on FOX on Sunday saying “The Democratic race has become a popularity contest now.” Putz. What was her name again?
I’m so happy!!!!
Hillary was jumping up and down urging Greenspan to make corrections to avoid the mortgage crisis. I know when I think of HRC, I think of the woman who was all over the mortgage crisis.
HRC had so many meaningful health initiatives in the Senate–which is why health care delivery is so strong in this country today.
I mean that Obama made a smart move by not playing the expectations game. If he had, he would have egg all over his face right now. As it is, he made a good showing in a state that should have been solidly for Hillary. It was not a great night for Obama but it was a good night and he avoided the obvious pitfall that would have turned it into a bad night.
It’s because, for better or worse, she’s one of us and she got beat up pretty badly this week. Or at least that’s how I’m explaining why I feel the same way.
Good Clinton strategy going after collage loans and pred. lenders (of course that ship has sailed) – but a good message to resonate with young kids and even 2% of that is 1.9 from Obama and 0.1 from Edwards.
And you might want to think about taking a chill pill.
You are preaching to a choir who knows this and much more.
Sorry Suzanne, but you’ll love Jon’s bit on all the male crying.
Obama’s speech was amazing…Yes we can!
I am amazed at his oratory.
I dont want to vote for Hillary and dont want to hear her torn apart by the Repugs. All the same stuff again.
I do wonder though if she would be a good pres…
the great thing about being a feminist is not having to…
(plugging ears and humming)
Nobody was all over that since the R’s were in power – and appointed people that did not do their regulation to ensure a FAIR MARKET using our laws. That and R’s committies that ignored everything.
Glad she tried to work on that.
g’nite. no dive.
Carmen – Please! West Coasties implore you. No Spoilers!
Hillary is not great at making speeches, but I watched her this weekend on the cspan taking questions and giving answers and she really did do a very good job.
MadDog, I understand your pleasure in giving the finger to the MSM, but when the reason for the finger is that the ONLY candidate in either party who can keep the white house in republican hands, and return congress to them, manages to eke out a win in her “Safe” state, I think we’d do better to lament a lost chance to put her even deeper in the hole than she was already in.
But South Cackalack looms, and we’ll see how she plays down there. :o)
At the least, the coronation process has died a borning. If Obama had lost in Iowa, and had then run within a few percentage points of her as he did in New Hampshire, her gender-oriented supporters would be singing a different tune.
Hillary is stealing Obama’s message word for word–”we” “us” “change” etc. She truly is a robot.
The man’s spot on, being polite about it, and challenging an opinion.
For this yer on his case as what, a moderator? A board person? A cop?
Not only is your JUDGEMENT biased and flawed in calling HIM out, without calling out others, your judgement is quite inaccurate in accusing Tanbark of saying anything out of line.
What is YOUR problem, big boy? Or girl? Can’t handle an open debate, a little give and take, shuck and jive, some heated commentary that might DISAGREE with you, or whom ever you are representing in here?
Gimme a break, if Jane Hamsher don’t call him out, you certainly have no business muzzling a perfectly intelligent and nicely versed and polite rebuke to this blog’s owners points of view.
Is this a forum for open and free and frank discussion? Or not? Go brush a poodle, you annoy me, son.
[Mod Note; Please refrain from insulting other commenters — SC]
A lot of anger seething in that Hillary face knowing that Ms. Inevitability is now Ms. How the Hell Can I Make It in the large states leading up to Sup Tue?
Hillary has indeed learned in New Hampshire: mostly from Obama, it seems. Lots of “you’s”, “we”’s, not so much “I”.
Also, a lot of signs – “Ready for Change”. She’s stealing Obama’s act.
Re:
This is, of course, a huge RED FLAG.
Air America’ Thom Hartmann has discussed disparities between exit polls and machine counted votes for several years now. He makes the point that in Germany election results are called on the night of elections based on the exit polls, while clerks in the bureaucracy may take several weeks to hand count the ballots. Rarely if ever in the past 4 decades have the exit polls been off by more than one half of one percent of the eventual tallies.
There was a huge controversy in 2004 regarding the disparity in Ohio between the exit polls and the eventual announced vote results. The firm that ran that exit poll was the same Edison-Mitofsky that is working in New Hampshire. I read Warren Mitofsky’s explanation of the disparity and it was pure bafflegab with a healthy dose of “supsension of common sense” added in. There is plenty of controversy surrounding Mitofsky. Harper’s Magazine has more.
I now see that she gave the 10 minute timer to get Obama up – but he was not trying to push her late – it was close and it is to his benefit when they go back-to-back as he is a far better speaker. I can’t hear it in her voice (hear it for Edwards, and from Obama even though I had him down to 3rd in my list for a while).
Clinton no doubt has a machine. She will find a message and is starting. Stupid dude just yelled “you go girl”.
I’m so jealous of you people that can vote.
This I think was the best idea they had. This made a difference.
I think the Tweety factor did have an impact as well and the media will refine their message to drop that right quick. They will pick up on other attacks.
Okay guys I’m done spoiling Jon Stewart for you. You’re gonna love it.
I tried to post this earlier but it got lost in the ether. The Super Duper Tuesday line up from wiki:
Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Missouri, New Mexico Democrats, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah and West Virginia Republicans, Alaska, Arizona,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho Democrats, Illinois, Kansas Democrats,Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana Republicans, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee.
You probably ought to think about taking a chill pill right about now too.
Pete – Clinton actually has been on top of the mortgage/shitpile far more than any other politician
It’s good that with $80 million of $100 million spent, and funds drying up, Hillary can plagiarize
Obama’s speeches, and it’s funny to see that angry Hillary face trying to mimic Obama’s style.
MSRNC has Obama’s picture up, with the headline “Obama pushes on despite Clinton win”.
He’s the Corporate Media’s chosen one.
Clinton is joining, as did Obama. Bundling the Dems – I like Obama saying that USA and Dems are sending a message. But I do not like the slant that he we are all Dems (there is a difference).
I need a fix – when and where is the next race – come on!
That you, Tweety?
a little off topic, but anyone care to handicap who Arnie might endorse for the CA primary?
My goodness…how is it that campaigns have already spent so much money? It’’s unfathomable to me.
Brian Fuckhead Williams: “Two extraordinary speeches from these two extraordinary candidates!”
If I were Edwards, I would sue their ass.
Excellent points, Ray! I wonder if the powers that be are scared of Obama’s Populism and Edwards’ Progressiveness… The Repugs are merely running scared at the record numbers of the Dem turnouts, virtually 2:1… Hmmm…
Bill O’Reilly has just declared “The real winner in New Hampshire is ME! If Obama hadn’t run away fro me the other night, he’d be giving a victory speech right now. Just goes to show you can’t ignore ME without paying for it.”
707!
Beautiful!
Thanks for alerting us Carmen! I’m skipping Clinton’s speech for Jon. Ahhhh.
Timmeh: “The greatest political upset in American political history.”
jeebus
Compared to McCain, both Obmama and Clinton spoke like Cicero.
Obama has definitely been talking more progressive lately. I haven’t heard anything about bipartisanship or social security lately.
He would say anything to get elected. There’s no telling what he’ll do if he gets in office.
Doesn’t this look just like the 2004 Ohio election? All polls for Kerry, but in the end, it was the fixed electronic voting machines that switched the vote to Bush. Does anyone think that the Rebubs are the only ones who can manipulate the votes – for that matter, maybe the Rebubs want to go against Hill instead of Obama. Whatever, I don’t feel this was an up and up election. I could care less who is nominated – my sentiments go with Edwards – but I have been following the total chaos these damn voting machines have created since their inception. They were placed in power by HAVA, which in turn was co-created by Bob Ney, a convicted Repub Congressional felon, for the sole purpose of manipulating the elections. Until the total fiasco in Fla. of 2000, exit polls were always right on target. Now, they are never right when it concerns electronic voting and what’s best for the Repubs. The Iowa polls were correct! Why? Because there were no votes counted by machines. It was a caucus. How could all of these polls be wrong about NH? Because the Repubs want to go against Hillary and they fear Obama.
That’s a good question since he seems to want to be in both parties at the same time.
Bmaz–
What has she done with that? Look at her votes on every key issue. She has been behind Bush on the Patriot Act–she’s been full speed ahead on Iraq.
In the spirit of DOJ not turning over jack, HRC wasn’t speaking to the media or taking questions from the press until yesterday.
This is an arrogant princess full of entitlement. I’ll do anything I can to make sure we don’t get 4 years of her inthe Oval office. I don’t buy her crap for one second that no individual in this country is forgotten by her.
I can’t wait for the next few states and 23 state Tuesday.
Mark the sleepy Shields called him on it tonight.
Obama’s speech was amazing…Yes we can!
I am amazed at his oratory.
I dont want to vote for Hillary and dont want to hear her torn apart by the Repugs. All the same stuff again.
I do wonder though if she would be a good pres…
I think she would be. Every one of the dem candidates would be good. That’s where we have an advantage over the repubs. We’re trying to choose the best. They’re trying to choose the least insane.
I can’t watch it but it sounds like you guys are describing a “SNL”skit from NBC rather than serious journalism. *g*
Maybe Arnie will endorse somebody who’s not running.. Bloomberg? Gore? himself?
Thanks for the post Carmen. Did a little search on that John Silvestre figure. Apparently, he apologized to the state of connecticut in the 2006 elections because his staff was swapping chips of the voting machines! WTF!
In last week’s program LHS President John Silvestro admitted his staff violated Connecticut security protocols during the 2006 election. Memory cards were swapped by LHS staff members who saw protocols from the State indicating they were not to touch machines
I agree. And the MSM can find time to
pimppromote 3-4 Repugs, but only 2 Democrats are allowed. Why? Because the MSM says so.
ET, TeddySanFran, you guys are making this stuff up I hope. Did O’Reilly and Russert really say those things?
My in depth political analysis of the New Hampshire results.
Obama wins speeches.
I am for Edwards so will say Edwards & Clinton tie for #2. Edwards had a great new open (only 99% done) and closing; Clinton I think for new stuff was much better on the strategy of the speech (poorer delivery, but good enough/excellent to base, and good portions to go for small parts of the youth vote). As for the W…it does great for Clinton since it will retain her super delegates and put her back in a position of strength.
…um apparently the pundits are now doubling down on NH to say its political history. Guess they should have looked at everything sooner not just the horserace. Its going to go for a while – duh.
Good argument by Pumpkin Head I like it much. Each town and place will decide. He takes Tom Browka advice and steps back.
Good call by Tom B – you know that Mad Albright (the 1/2 million kids dead lover) and the old people were not going to be on that stage.
Did you have a cup of bile this morning instead of coffee?
Agreed, their Latin was impeccable.
What is the objective opinion on the Edwards speech?
No, exit polls have always had their glitches. Ask any experienced pollster, and they’ll tell you that.
This is not to say that there weren’t problems in FL in 2000. But not every discrepancy between an exit poll and a final ballot count means that the counters are crooked — there are plenty of incompetent pollsters to go around.
For instance, Mark Penn.
“… and a bit of empathy for her as a woman?”
Fuck you Tweety.
The hardest to listen to is the phony MSM/MSNBCsters as stable as a 3 dollar bill, changing in a few hours from Obama inevitabillity to HRC’s win in NH as if it were the general.
Thom Hartmann was talking about this today, He thinks she might be very good although he is for Edwards
and the horse you rode in on tweety
Shit. The response I had done didn’t come up. And it was fucking profound.
one thing i said was tanbark is taking some shit tonite but i agree – hillary is more likely a loser than anyone we’ve got. her nomination – and i’d vote for her – would suck it.
why oh why does Hillary allow Wolfson to get in front of a camera on her behalf?
I heard the Russert one with my own ears!!
There was one line in his speech that came straight from Joe Lieberman, but I can’t recall it right now.
Also liked the last Obama song – nice country tune.
All great music, modern U2 so obscure enough to be cool. Funk at the end which is always great. And the USA pride and ear for a good pop country song.
Perhaps the best analysis I know of voting machine issues was done by Jon Stokes of Ars Technica … everyone should read it:
How to Steal a Vote
Nice and succinct, Solai…!
Alright, everybody. And this goes for me, too…
Do.Not.Feed.
Durham NH where U of NH is 48% OB 29% HRC
Ummm – Tweety just hyperventalated on TV into the mike. It was a Countdown laugh hyperventalate.
It’s intriguing to see networks calling this election with 85% or so of the vote in and percentage points of difference in a state with one of the smallest voting populations.
Hillary is finally showing that she is a human being. Many of us knew this, but the “tears” enlightened others.
he’s been like that all day. called Fitz a bogus prosecutor this a.m.. that was you wasn’t it PP? if not, apologies in advance.
My take on NH is that Hillary’s organization held up. Obama got a good bounce from Iowa but not enough to win. Edwards did not get a bounce from Iowa but held steady. And that all the Hillary tears and Edwards comments were atmospherics which changed nothing. JMHO.
Thank you. A reality check based on her RECORD!!!
Which is pure beltway elite and 1% NOT concerned for the masses or the middle class.
And it’s a proven record in the senate, vote after vote, silence after silence, in complicity with everything BushCo has done since he stole the first election. She is pure beltway elite, and her interests are special interests and will continue this republic on a road to further erosion of personal rights, and a continuation of foreign military intervention to benefit the makers of the war machine tools and toys. Those tools and toys pretty much include the dead bodies of the men and women who served this republic doing invasions for profits.
What a phreakin tragedy they all died and paid the ultimate price NOT for old glory, but to ensure the profits of war continue to fill the corporatist and 1% elite.
What a phreakin tragedy anyone supporting HRC actually thinks she represents any kind of change agent to benefit the masses.
I hope that’s clean and neat enough, bmaz, for ya. It’s certainly plainly enough true. *G*
LOL I knew Leiberman, completely obselete, would make it into a thread some how.
Wolfson claims to have made up a fifteen point deficit, and this goes unchallenged by Tweety and, god save us, Olbermann.
tweety’s hyperventilation: Let’s amplify it to make him sound even more ridiculous than he is – put it all over the tubes and shame and ridicule him off the air.
Hey, can we blame the mccain speech on the writer’s strike?
Most of the women supporting Edwards moved to Clinton after his “sexist” rant, thus keeping the race alive. Older voters too.
OK – Keith just mis-quoted Dede Myers from earlier “she said Clinton was never really the front runner in this race” No Keith, she said that Clinton was not the front runner a year ago. Man, I cannot believe how much Keith is disapointing me tonight. He has fallen into the pack mentality.
Tweety says he will never underestimate Hillary again!!!
I been meaning to ask…. and I’m serious about this. Not trying to be snide or mean. i had just never noticed it because I never paid that much attention to the guy… But what is wrong with the left side of McCain’s face? What is that bulge? A growth? Did he get his face busted up when he was a POW?
He looks tired. Maybe he needs a long holiday.
Edwards is doing well enough to make a difference. His 17% would swing things either way. I’m glad he’s staying in.
she’s never changed a goddam thing in this country. the clintons kept corporate states belly full. as a teamster and a woman……….fuck em
Noron calls this “an exciting upset victory.”
What planet have these people been on?
It’s a jaw breaker. He’s nursing it. For years.
Siun, you have some “pull” around the netroots and FDL. Do you have thoughts as to why the issue of voting integrity has never really caught on as much around places like FDL?
We can mobilize thousands and tons of money of Blue America candidates for instance, or supporting Dodd’s filibuster, but why doesn’t anything seems to happen with the voting issue?
I know Moveon is doing one right now, but outside of a few sites, I never see very much about this.
Seems to me it should near or at the top of the list.
Me too. I saw him askin Shuster, i think, a question and it took KO about 5 minutes to spit it out. Not on his game.
BFL, Old Lord McCain had a face cancer removed.
I think KO quoted her correctly. Or maybe I mis-heard it too.
This one’s gonna cause lots of grief among the political “experts”- they all missed this big time. How did it happen? Pretty interesting.
Or at least until tomorrow. Whichever comes first.
I’m in complete agreement with you both about red flags, and that Dem’s could abuse Diebold as much as anyone else. After all, it’s all the same beltway elite and same 1% driving and buying and manipulating it all.
I’d like to see more outrage and recount requests.
It’s crap like this which worries me about the larger states with lots of delagates at stake. Both for the primary and for the general election.
CA I think, thanks to our Sec Of State BLESSED BE HER SOUL AND SERVICE, is up on it all, and MAY stand a chance of being a clean election in both.
Tweety raving about how “clean” and attractive Obama looks.
Freaking MSNBC is saying that voters are only voting for Hillary because of Bill. MSNBC is totally losing me.
But, we all know he will.
ET, TeddySanFran, you guys are making this stuff up I hope. Did O’Reilly and Russert really say those things?
I made it up, but the fact you had to ask shows how crazy O’Leilly is…
Bah ha ha. Tweety saying that R’s won’t attach an African American beacuse they can’t.
Then says he gave a concesion speech. Why not take Tom B’s advice and shut up.
Do ya suppose that anyone will wake up any of the old white guys on the R side to tell ‘em about HRC’s victory, or just wait until in the morning?
what sexist rant? Oh. you got it in quotes. OK. But do ya really think that made a difference. If so, it’s too bad. Edwards got shat on unfairly for that whole exchange.
Tweety compares the onstage Obamas tonight to the Kennedys after Jack lost the veep nomination in 1956 at the Democratic convention.
A convention, incidentally, that Jackie did not attend.
And Tom breaks in. Ding.
Was actually going to call Tweety by his real full name, oh well. To think I used to watch the guy.
Yeah, Tweety has a serious man-crush on Obama, which is surprising– he usually goes for Republics.
But you may have a good point . . . *G* I’m SO torn . . . NOT! lol
not so much pull but I do think we need to pay a lot more attention and I was very disappointed that Jon’s Ars Technica piece did not get the attention it deserved since it is a carefully researched analysis based on real sources and data.
We should all be pushing this harder …
Not all polls are created equal — and Mystery Pollster gets them to dish on their colleagues in the business, asking how reputable they think each polling outfit is. Very, very interesting results.
Morning Joe seems kind of overwhelmed by the results tonight.
Hoo-an Williams says it was “bad reporting.”
Your left or his left? In any case, IIRC, McCain (Ol’ Mack the Knife) has had some significant skin cancer surgery. I believe that he had a large portion of one of his ass cheeks grafted onto his face.
Joe Scar compares the role of the political media to sportswriters.
Says that Wolfson was telling him, “without spinning, that they would face carnage, total absolute defeat.”
What fools these mortals on my teevee be.
Ah, no. Read the exit polling closely. Tracks mostly here; Ohio not as much.
McCain had a melanoma removed. Excision, drawing the skin back together afterwards, and possibly some salivary gland damage resulted in his lopsided, chipmunk cheek.
God! CNN is bad enough, but reading you pups commenting, I’m really, really glad I don’t get MSNBC.
Was that the Daily Show gobsmacking or yet another one? Citizen action gobsmacking opportunity. borrow from the library and read but do not buy Tweety’s book. give it the review it deserves on amazon. Wait for it be remaindered. Buy it for 2.00. leave on price sticker. deftly insert folded copy of a bad review. send the whole thing to Tweety. Sign the request hillary. Ask him to sign it. If the sight of the cut rate price doesn’t get him, the sight of the review will. If that doesn’t do it, the name hilary will.
Complicated, yes I know. But far more satisfying than throwing a slipper at him, which is what I just did.
Tell ‘em now. let ‘em have a wet dream.
Hey – its Morning Joe dead intern. Ummm nobody is thinking about that.
Also sports writer do write about tactics and facts. Also its only one primary – and not 3 games down in a 7 game series and Red Sox clobber Yankees to win 4-3. Its one state and a small one.
Now the machine does kick in, and people don’t bail and think they can get on the inside for a job, or work for a winner.
At least Joe is saying he had a great speech. Man they all think Tweety is a CIA tool.
Finally the town I grew up in, Exeter came in and they went for Obama so I’m going to sleep.
The only change I would make on Solai’s excellent comment is that:
Wasn’t she recovering from a miscarraige at convention time? That was a bit before my time but I seem to remember reading it somewhere.
Maybe for the next primary, the media should wait until after the votes are in to tell us it’s over? Just a thought.
She’s not my candidate, but I’m glad Hillary won just to stick it to the media who hate her so. Hillary 1, Heathers 0.
Thanks.
Edwards, please put Katrina in your ad and maybe U2-Greenday (The Saints are Coming). Also liked the U2 Pride from Iowa night – that is a great song people connect with.
Yeah…Edwards mentioned! finally I can have another sip.
Melanoma can be fatal
My cynical side was thinking, over the last couple of days with such a huge swing in the polls, that this was happening so they can run with this dramatic comeback victory story tonight. People love Underdogs.
I remember this w as strategy used by Holy Joe against Lamont. Not sure how they’d be able to pad so many polls, since all had this big shift.
Thank you.
Favorite comment of the day, from a friend of mine over at LiveJournal:
My point was on the mortgage bit only. You can fact check my statement….
Still don’t believe that all the polls were wrong. This election was fixed, just as Bush’s election was fixed. Easy as hell to do with the machines now in place in 34 of the states. Think the upcoming Presidental election is going to be any different than the ones since 2000? Don’t bet on it. The stage is being set. I hate to be cynical, but I have absolutely no faith in any election using electronic voting. Did anyone notice that Olberman kept asking if the results had anything to do with mechanical problems?
Me, too, Helen. I always thought Keith was a good guy. Now you see what Hillary means by the great right wing adversary. I am deciding whether I will watch KO in the future.
Yay! Gene Robinson brings up the Bradley Effect!
i agree. Voting integrity is one of my top three. along with the return of habeas corpus and unconglomerating the media.
http://www.cancerpage.com/news/article.asp?id=1529
I stopped watching because of Tweety but doesnt Keith have some severe health problems?
I have a vulnerable R congressman representing me and they keep running the same loser against him who babbles the same crap and gets his ass handed to him every 2 years. and he keeps sayin’ the last election was fixed. I ain’t buyin it.
That’s a good Top Three. I’m with you on those. Gotta start with the fundamentals, like any activity, and those are fundamental to a healthy democracy.
I am wondering if the candidates that the republicans want as candidates won tonight? Would that surprise anyone? So really, if there were some ‘fixing’ going on, wouldn’t it be these two that won? They definitely needed McCain and Clinton to win, and not Obama and Huckabee.
The powers behind the machines won tonight. The difference between the exit polls and the tally tells everything. Ugh. Those machines are going to steal our democracy.
Per MSNBS:
I do not think people not wanting to vote for an African American in there. Obama got lots of votes. I do agree that women coming out for Clinton was good. Also that there are less than 5% African American, who could have come out for a 1 – 2.5% edge for Obama with decent starting numbers.
I have not seen the exit poll data so 1 – 5 % with up to 2.5 going to Clinton/Edwards is how I swiped at that number.
Also Clinton really took the North country in NH, so it could be as there are many areas where people not voting for an African American could apply. I do not think massive amounts of people would lie about there vote to hide racism (there are tons of candidates to vote for anway).
McCain had skin cancer and it looks like he may have had reconstructive surgery IIRC.
If people love underdogs (and I do), then why make one up when there are so many real ones to talk about?
not in 1000000 years will any union member vote for her.
Actually Loo Hoo she has shown it all along.
She’s been so arrogant an entitled Princess that she would not take any questions from the media nor from any voters for months until Obama let her know that she is not Ms. Inevitability. And the I this I that didn’t get out of her speeches until yesterday.
She also began stealing and mimicking every line of Obama’s speeches for the last six months yesterday.
The voters in NH who voted for her were working class people who were hard wired to vote for her ages before she teared up in public and made the front page of NYT doing it.
Her margin of victory was markedly more narrow than Mark Penn and Patti expected.
And importantly, she lost the independent vote in NH and lost it by a considerable margin.
That’s going to continue.
I think you’re probably right. It’s tempting to look at trad. media, tears, etc., but in the end, the Clintons had a huge ground organization and poured tons of money into the state.
I want you to remember your post in two years after he’s elected. I really, really, want you to remember tonite.
Cuz Obama has his hand in yer wallet as solid as HRC does, and the DLC, DNC, RNC, and the Diebold Voting Machines, do. Your wealth is headed UP, to the 1%.
Remember your post of tonite. *G*
DLC. DNC. RNC. Diebold. 1% Elite. Your money, your wealth, the fruits of YOUR labors, your existence, funneled upwards into small greedy paws.
And you worry we cant’ trust election results? Damn straight we can’t!!!!
What will be done about this? Anyone? Bueller? *G*
Our votes may be similar, less yer voting for Ron Paul . . . *G*
Bless you and HRC is not a champion of feminist issues anymore than Huckabee is.
Ok, maybe deep down, in her Black Panther Defense soul of the 60’s post college, she has some feminist ties which pull at her, but they won’t interfere with her PAC money’s, or her policy’s if elected.
Her record, of NOT championing the masses, or even women’s rights, in the open, speaks for itself.
Delighted a feminist can be open about this and express your doubt, as so many others, male OR female, feminist or not, see it the same way.
It was the “Tear Vote” that put her out in front.
No, BMaz@90, YOU start looking at the issues and the facts of Hillary’s track record, instead of supporting her because she’s a woman named Clinton.
You’re flacking for a candidate who’s
sitting squarely in AIPAC’s pocket, and if you haven’t noticed, their agenda is a NEW clusterfuck.
I’m tired of people who don’t give a shit about her positions on these important issues, and who keep on pimping for her, and who don’t care about losing the damn election, as long as a woman gets our nomination.
The republicans will destroy her if we nominate her. One of the parties is going to come out of this election mortally wounded. Why do you want to take such a chance that it will be us?
Hmmm . . . didn’t know, thanks for sharing that.
My honey and I met and fell in love talking about Mz. Ferraro, in ‘84.
And what that meant to the women’s movement, and GOOD change.
I was in NPR local radio at the time, and very hip as a hippie, to the times.
She fell for me, poor woman. *G*
23 years later, we are both still avid feminists, among other things we remain avid about (she’s Canuck, I’m Yankee, we love our constitution). *G*
And our commitment to each other, male and female, to live as a couple, and nurture each other, grow and age together, be loyal and monagamous together, is founded on the genders being put aside and the couple being put front and center. Always.
So I’m pleased to know, feminists, who won’t be supporting HRC, for perhaps the same reasons we won’t be.
She’s just not the feminist we want at this time.
She’s not the leader we want.
We want REAL change, change that feminists and all others, might embrace.
Change for the masses, hope for the middle class, an end to foreign interventionism as a means of funneling wealth into the hands of the 1% elites.
Those kinds of things matter to us. Male and feminiist things, if one just embraces the humanity of the species.
I’m glad we had this talk. I’m glad my wife and I, are not alone in the things we wish for us, and others.
Here’s hoping for good change. Namaste, Siun.
Pete Pierce I don’t know who you are, but hoss, we are speakin the same language.
Nice spanky! *G*
MadDog@256; no, I’m thinking about how, in 2004, when we nominated Kerry, about 25% of the registered democrats in South Carolina bolted to vote for bush.
If Hillary’s nominated, would you like to speculate how many might bail on us in this election?
See, ‘Dog, the problem with the Clinton supporters is that they get off on Fantasy-Gender-Island, and they don’t want to talk about specific issues, and they damn sure don’t want to speak that dirty little word:
“Electability”.
But some of us are more interested in winning the election than we are in using the democratic nomination as salve for Hillary’s ass for the lacing she’s taken from the right. And while I’m talking about THAT and while you guys are chortling about how brave she was to stand up the dirty old MSM, let me post this one more time, for you chew on:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories…..0694.shtml
Because I think that the more you piss and moan about how badly she’s being treated by the MSM, the more relevant her relationship with some of the more extreme elements of it becomes. :o)
So, MadDog, do YOU think a democrat can get elected without hammering on the GOP for Iraq?
And while your answering that, here’s the follow-up:
Do you think that Hillary can raise much hell about Iraq, with all the support she’s given goatboy and the goopers for it?
Enquiring minds want to know.
As for all the people talking as if you had just won the presidency with her, she thanks you;
And Karl Rove thanks you.
Suz, I replied to bmaz, and I think it’s perfectly obvious why and I think my reply was valid.
Free forum debate, and give and take. I have a valid point. Bmaz insulted, de facto, an opinion I and many others agree with. Ergo, STFU, hoss or hossette . . . out of line comment by bmaz, and I think that person needs a rebuke, as much as anyone else.
Or was it the crack about the poodles. *G*
larue, what are ya talking about?

Remember that satellite feed that Harry Shearer pulled before Hardball with Tom DeLay/Chris Matthews.
MATTHEWS: Hey thank you for calling me. It was a good thing for me, mostly.
DELAY: Oh really.
MATTHEWS: Oh of course it was. We got on the air as fast as we could….
[…]
MATTHEWS: Shannon [DeLay aide] told me, she called me, she said ‘don’t worry — he’s not calling in to complain’…
MATTHEWS: Have you seen this new focus group stuff on the candidates?
DELAY: No I haven’t
MATTHEWS: It’s great stuff. I’ll send it to you — it’s great — yeah it’s great stuff. Hillary, John Kerry. All these guys, all these democrats, and how they do. And, uh, Frank Luntz did it…
DELAY: who I like
CM: …and Hillary did not do well. Kerry did well.
DELAY: You’re kidding.
MATTHEWS: I am NOT kidding. They didn’t like Edwards — they thought he was a rich lawyer, pretending to care about poor people…
DELAY: Too slick. Too slick.
MATTHEWS: …and Hillary was a know-it-all.
DELAY: Nothing worse than a woman know-it-all
[…]
MATTHEWS: Thanks. I owe you one. I owe you two — today and last night.
DELAY: No you don’t.
MATTHEWS: No, I do.
DELAY: I appreciate it.
Amen GrandmaJ!!!
It sure wasn’t the American people nor the Constitution. :-(……
GrandmaJ@369:
“I wonder if the candidates that the republicans want to win, won tonight.”
Hammer-nail-bang, Granma.
Can you imagine a Clinton-McCain election? What a choice. Either way the goopers get a warpimp.
TeddySAnFran, regarding “an exciting upset victory”. With you, Bro.
What a crock of shit! New Hampshire was a safe state for her, and she nearly lost it.
On to South Carolina. :o)
Thought that was you who reined me in on one of my posts . . . . not to beat up on posters (as I did in my response to bmaz).
It’s all good. *G*
I’m gonna buy poodle brushes, just in case. *G*
Larue, it wasn’t me but … you were outta line and just because someone else does it did not work when my kids tried it either.
come see me up on my thread
LooHoo@169; sure. Which shit would you like to see? :o)
Would you like to see a post about Hillary voting for the flagburning amdendment, just like the rest of the peckerhead foilhats? Or, maybe you support that? Can you show us some of YOUR shit? :o)
Would you like to talk about her sucking up to FoxNews by attending their 10th anniversary birthday bash? (that would be the very same FoxNews that tore she and her family a new asshole for 8 years, and really, has nnever stopped.)
Would you like to talk about the money that AIPAC has sent her?
How about her support for the surge that packed another 30K of our troops into the meatgrinder that she helped bush gin up, and for which she’s never apologized?
Would you like me to show you my shit about Joe Lieberman, and her support for him in the Conn. primary, and then, her support for his and Kyle’s amendment to give george bush a leg up in starting clusterfuck #2?
That shit? :o)
Just let me know. I’m at your service.
I cooked up a picture to celebrate Maddow’s smack-down of Matthews:

My sentiments exactly. I could only add that it is nice to see Obamomentum slowed to bring the race back close to even, so they can continue the fight without any spectre of election fraud from either Iowa or NH.
His folks have been saying recently that he’s almost the second coming of Lincoln, John Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
Of course, those guys did stuff too.
That probably leaves you with Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico since he wasn’t in Congress at that time.
But, really, you should pick among Clinton, Obama or Edwards. They’re the only ones who really have any chance of getting the nomination among Dems.
Edwards voted for the Authorization, but later apologized (saying it was a very tough call and he trusted Bush) and says we must leave Iraq within the first year of his term.
Clinton voted for the Authorization and didn’t apologize, but now says we must leave Iraq ‘responsibly’.
Obama wasn’t in the senate and therefore didn’t vote on the Authorization resolution, but he has voted to reauthorize it and provide funding. He too says we must leave Iraq.
Were you a Hillary supporter before?
Do you think other Hillary supporters might move to Edwards if Hill has to withdraw?
It would be really helpful to know their thoughts on this possibility.
I liked it pretty well. It didn’t have that rambling feeling some of his speech has.
It was shorter and wasn’t cut off by the press who had to move on to something more important like the local dog that got run over by a street sweeper.
It was very well constructed, perhaps his best in that sense.
It did what was needed for the occasion.
Still, after looking at the polls It seems the important thing for Edwards now is to find a way to convince people they can trust him and do it pretty quick. If Obama can sell snake-oil, then Edwards should be able to do some of that too.
I suppose I should mention that like someone else here on the lake I would like to hear more variety and off-the-cuff speaking. Edwards is quite good at that and it would sound a lot more natural — perhaps more Q&As with the public, rather than speeches.
These characterizations are largely still true except we have Obama playing the role of Kerry “reporting for duty” and Obama was picked by Kerry for the role!
But, I really didn’t care for Kerry and I really don’t like Obama, so …
Was the focus group bipartisan or only Dems? Or, did it include some independents too?
I should also add that it might be irrelevant because Luntz is a hard-core Republican whose work is suspect.
