Their email indicated that they had already tried some approaches to rework their site.

My guess is that since they are on wingnut welfare from Eagle, they followed the standard Republican tactic of awarding development contracts based on Nepotism and Cronyism. After burning through a lot of Eagle money with no results, when they asked for more development money, Eagle put their foot down and told them to raise it themselves.

We used to call it the ID-Ten-T problem; within earshot of the client, ID-10 for short.

Some smartass made up a hotkey for ID10T entries in the call management system, which made for amusing lectures from management.

I got that email. I’ve lived in the “tech world” for more than 20 years. As a programmer and consultant for a software company, I have experienced first hand the “alternate reality” which is the world in which at least a majority of techies seem to live. Not all, by a long measure, but … anyone who spends any time on technical sites (like slashdot or arstechnica) knows that the majority of these goofballs are libertarian in a kind of dorky, college-kid-selfish way. Yeah, some of them are meanspirited, but most of them just don’t seem to have much in the way of real-world experience. You typically don’t go tech unless you have some bank.

The flip side of that “round tuit” is that a very large percentage of the developers providing free software like linux, scoop and drupal, are not Americans. Perhaps, if Erick E wasn’t flogging a site that detests the “brownskinned hordes” and “old Europe,” he might pick up some free help with his problem. At any rate, Daily Kos is far larger than RedState and still is running Scoop, so if Erick and his brothers are having technical difficulties, they aren’t inherent in the software.

“The problem is between the keyboard and the chair,” as we like to say.

Thanks.

I can’t wait until they start shopping around for another platform. Can’t you imagine the interview with the vendor?

“Did you vote for Bush?”

“Uh, we don’t typically disclose such personal information to clients. We thought you wanted an online community platform with content management capabilities, which is what we do.”

“But if you didn’t vote for Bush, you must be part of a liberal plot to take us down.”

“Um, call us in a couple of years, we’re booked past capacity right now. See ya.”

“But wait….”

* click *

But seriously, I think that JGabriel is right; a big chunk of the coding geeks I know are fiercely libertarian, and incredibly freaked out by this administration’s domestic spying.

Good grief. “We don’t know what we’re doing! Give us some money!”

It’s always a riot when conservatives cry persecution, especially when those same conservatives are well-funded.

RW, you may not realize it but what you posted is very true.

From the Victory Caucus

Re:Enemies Within - 2007/02/27 17:01
If we Americans have a fateful flaw in our national character, it is forgetfulness. This failing speaks well of our human decency and generosity, but not always for our political wisdom or intelligence. We think everyone else as is good natured as we are. Our military defeated Iraq in mere days, after which we saw American soldiers giving MREs to hungry Iraqi women and children. That’s how we Americans are. Our national virtue is our national weakness. We do not want to change all that much, and as long as our world-famed good nature does no great harm, why should we? There is one thing to keep in mind: Don’t be too good natured, since our enemies are not noble enough to overlook our mistakes.
If this advice applies anywhere, it apples to our relations with the libs. Carelessness here is not only a weakness, it is disregard of duty and a crime against the security of the state. The liberals long for one thing: to reward our foolishness with surrender to the terrorists. It must never come to that. One of the most effective defenses is an unforgiving, cold hardness against the destroyers of our people, against those who would benefit if we lose the war, and therefore also against the victims, if we win.
Therefore, we must say again and yet again:
1. The liberals are our destruction. They want to destroy the United States and our people. This plan must be blocked.
2. There are no distinctions between liberals. Each liberal is a sworn enemy of the American people. If he does not make his hostility plain, it is only from cowardice and slyness, not because he loves us.
3. The liberals are to blame for each American soldier who falls in this war. They have him on their conscience, and must also pay for it.
4. If someone pulled the lever for Kerry, Pelosi, et al., he is an enemy of the people. He earns the contempt of the entire people, for he is a craven coward who leaves them in the lurch to stand by the enemy.
5. The liberals enjoy the approval of our enemies. That is all the proof we need to show how harmful they are for our people.
6. The liberals are the enemy’s agents among us. He who stands by them aids the enemy.
7. The liberals have no right to claim that their arguments and opinions equal ours. They should be ignored, not only because their are simply wrong, but because they are liberals who have no right to a voice in the community.
8. If the liberals appeal to your sentimentality, realize that they are hoping for your forgetfulness, and let them know that you see through them and hold them in contempt.
9. A decent enemy will deserve our generosity after we have won. The liberal however is not a decent enemy, though he tries to seem so.
10. The treatment liberals receive from us is hardly unjust. They have deserved it all.
It is the job of the government to deal with them. No one has the right to act on his own, but each has the duty to support the state’s measures against the liberals, to defend them with others, and to avoid being misled by any liberal tricks.
The security of the state requires that of us all.

The guy who posted it took a writing of I believe it was Goebbels and worded it for present day American versus 1930s Germany. He knowingly did this to see what the response of the posters there would be. The comments that followed we in agreement with his post.

I can provide a link if you like.

Unfortunately, there weren’t really any conservative Scoop developers out there to help us.

Can be loosely translated as: All the programmers we attempted to hire told us to fook off!
