I realize that there's one born every minute, but in a letter to RedState readers, Erick Erickson says that their readers need to raise $25,000 in order to keep them from being overrun by a liberal plot:
The bad news: our liberal “friends” – you know, the ones who believe so strongly in free speech and open debate – have done what they can to prevent us from making these improvements, so that our influence will be minimized just as we head into the 2008 presidential primary season.
No, our Blue State buddies haven’t succeeded in stopping us from improving our website. But they’ve made it more difficult and more expensive – which is why I’m coming to you for help.
Let me explain …
You see, when we started RedState in May of 2004, we used a website program called Scoop — the same program a lot of similar sites on the left used. But, as the number of visitors to our site grew, Scoop kept crashing on us.
If we’d been a liberal website, we would have been able to fix the problem quickly and relatively cheaply. The online left loves Scoop. Unfortunately, there weren’t really any conservative Scoop developers out there to help us. We kept crashing and were out of money. We had to close down or take drastic action.
The internal logic kind of takes your breath away. As Eli says, "Wow. The Left sneakily created an online commenting platform and lured Redstate onto it, knowing that they wouldn't be able to find enough flying codemonkeys to maintain it. Best. Ratfuck. Ever."
But the real question is -- how limitless is their contempt for their own readership? RedState is now owned by Eagle Publishing, the parent company of Human Events, Regnery, Evans-Novak Political Report, the Conservative Book Club and other conservative publishing enterprises.
According to Hoovers, Eagle Publishing had $8.3 million in sales in 2006.
When the sale was announced, Robert Bluey at Human Events wrote:
The site’s managing editor, Erick-Woods Erickson, said the new arrangement would provide RedState with the resources it needs to continue playing a leading role in the conservative movement.
Why the hell does Erickson need to "liberal bait" his audience and flim-flam them for $25 grand?
Update: RedState makes threats regarding the PayPal identity information of DailyKos donors who contribute to the site

Jane!
Hello again, Jane…
Why is it unsurprising that these rightards are lacking technical competance?
For the same reason dogs lick themselves.
Maybe tech people are reality-based.
How’s your cold, Jane?
works for Bush…
I feel okay, I just sound like I’ve got one foot in the grave.
I’ve taken to calling “Human Event” “The Human Stain”
OT from C&L (see the bit on conscience at the end…ouch):
The family of Nataline Sarkisyan appeared at a John Edwards rally in Manchester, NH, to speak about the importance of reforming our healthcare system after the senseless death of Nataline due to bureaucratic obstacles placed by her insurance company. Her father, Kirkor Sarkisyan, admits that their political activism was spurred by both a desire to honor the memory of his daughter but to ensure that no other parent experience the loss that he has.
On a related note, Hillary Clinton’s spokesperson, Jay Carson dismissed the Sarkisyan family’s appearance at the Edwards event by saying that when Clinton refers to people in her speeches, she’s actually helped them, not just “stories she’s pulled from the newspaper and included in her stump,” to which Edwards has rightfully questioned whether her campaign has a conscience.
Redstate is being taken down by the Vast Leftwing Conspiracy.
Hysterical.
-G
Jane, if you haven’t checked out the Kos diary’s on Brooks and Broder……Jeebus, NH is going to be the death of the establishment media.
No conservative Scoop developers? Too bad, mate. I guess some will just have to go back to school…
That Scoop scoop is funny. It must all trace back to the liberal commie Open Source plot!
Shorter Red State begging letter: WE IZ 2 STOOPID TO RUN SCOOP PLZ HLP W/LOTSA MUNY!!1!
They’d add it to a cute lolcat picture… if they could figure out how.
It’s for a surprise party. You know, the one they’re gonna need as the Repug party implodes with a whimper.
And then it’s gonna be Cheetos on the house and all the net porn you can shake your…ummmm…and all the Cheetos you’re $249.95 cover can handle.
Heh. Indeed.
I breathlessly await more wingnut blogging about potential Obama-inspired race rioting and how John McCain’s loss is good for John McCain.
So, Dangerstein works for them now?
lolfrog! Does the frog make it’s predator laugh so hard it can’t eat :)
This is certainly good news for Republicans.
Well, gee, maybe Jeebus is trying to tell you something. If you listen very, very carefully you might just be able to hear what Jeebus is saying.
tommy! So good to see you.
Liberals is always readin books with no fuckin pitchers in em.
The online left loves Scoop. Unfortunately, there weren’t really any conservative Scoop developers out there to help us. We kept crashing and were out of money.
Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal!
hi egregious! hope you’re well.
Is this the same Human Events that does not know the gender of “SCHIP-exploited” child actor Graeme Frost?
We here in NH are so afeared of the 2% population riots that we are ready to give the election to Obama.
That Jonah Goldberg sure has his ear to the ground.

And newspapers with no comics.
Lots of fresh fruit and juices. Find a health food store and get some fresh vegetable juice. It feeds your imune system. As prior post says some green teas. Every hour or so nibble apples and orqanges. It’s fun and natural…not at all like nation building.
Maybe tech people are reality-based.
If only it were true - many, many programmers, even competent ones, are rightards or at least libertarians. I’m thinking their tech troubles are a combination of laziness and contemptuous fleecing of the r00bz.
bwahahaha! No conservative scoop developers? Hmm, i don’t know the program, but maybe it actually takes some intelligence to work on it? (Intelligent conservatism just another oxymoron imho)
Nothin creative here- they just took a message from germany in 33 and changed ”Jew” to ”Liberal”.
Poetic justice. I used to go on Free Republic — was banned at least twice for polite disagreement. Why did I go there?
To expand on Sun Tzu: Know thy enemy and while you’re there, fuck with thy enemy’s head.
Errors everywhere today:
HEYA!
I was thinking about you too. Prolly because you keep coming up on my iPod.
How are you? How’s Esten?
I will say I went on Horowitz’s FrontPage off and on for many months (years ago) and drove them crazy, but I was never banned.
note to Erick Erickson,
You passed the test - You lied when the truth would have served your purposes better. Now you can shop that fact around to Regnery’s friends and enablers, and get a promotion to a more influential, higher paying job within the wingnut welfare system.
Redstate really got this wrong. The Left is not to blame. Clearly, this is Clinton’s fault.
Pach! My man!
Esten is good. He was hospitalized last week for walking pneumonia. Honestly, in the scheme of things it wasn’t that scary. They knocked it out with three different antibiotics and cut him loose in four days. He’s still sick, but it’s more head-coldy and he’s not running fevers.
It’s lovely to see you guys!
Okay, I couldn’t resist…
So I guess the quote should really read like this.
From the Hoovers link in the post:
So they’re competing against themselves… NewsMax Media, Richard Mellon Scaife’s shop.
Ya know, anybody else would have just made a phone call and hired a consultant to clean up Scoop. It’s simply brilliant to turn a lack of technical ability until a fund raising call!
Boxturtle (perhaps all the consultants were Dems)
Eagle is part of Regnery, right? Which is owned by Richard Viguerie. Who says Huckabee is bad news.
Eating their own. This is going to be fun to watch.
The Donner Party.
-G
More Bush from Froomkin:
You know the one they don’t have.
Well I guess that clears that up.
Eagle actually owns regnery.
FUNNIEST FREEPERVILLE POST EVER
most people with the brains to operate a web page wouldn’t come near us with a ten foot pole
at least redstate is honest
Hi Folks!…
Is Redstate stealing material from those people at the whitehouse.org blog?…
Geesh…
That is so funny, I sincerely feel that we have some new best friends at Redstate that need our best attention regarding this whole liberal plot episode.
I guess that Scaife divorce WAS expensive.
Jane,
The simple answer to the question of why they feel they must blame the liberals for this, is that hate makes people write checks. Your question was really rhetorical, right? I knew that.
Of course if all those bright promising right-wing Christian children hadn’t all trouped off to Regents so they could eventually make an international laughing stock of our Department of Justice, there might have been a couple who strayed into the world of computers. Damn Left Wing Conspirators.
My personal and totally unscientific non-representative sampling of nerds, science fiction fandom, tells me there aren’t a lot of Republican programmers out there.
Ugh. I can only imagine how fake this must have looked. Sorry…after years a smarmy pandering by her and her hubby, I just can’t believe her. The Girl Who Cried Wolf.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/200.....olitics_dc
I’m starting to get really excited about the prospect of the Clinton Dynasty coming to an end. It’s a whole new era!
Wingnut welfare Kristol. Publishes a lie on his first day.
Fucking funny.
-G
I work with a couple.
Rather mired to Visual Basic.
OT: NPR just interviewed Jonah Goldberg with a straight face about the NH primaries, then put a (butt) plug in at the end for his upcoming “book,” “Liberal Fascism.”
Have they ever had Glenn Greenwald on, or Digby, Jane, Christie, Marcie, Duncan, Kos, or ANY of our crowd?
I have just figured out how to get the BBC’s Channel 4 pretty much around the clock. No more fund-drives! I don’t need NPR anymore.
I thought the ranks of the late-90s dot-bombers was primarily made up of Republicans and Libertarians. Surely RS could kiss Ron Paul’s ass for a couple of days to get the programming they need done.
Iranians: We had a program because the largest nation on the world has been threatening us for 30 frigging years.
Oh yeah and we wanted to be able to use nuclear power so that we could sell oil for money.
Night, night numb-nuts.
-G
Bout time the dems scare the holy livin shit out of NPR the way the goopers did- they won’t know whether ta shit er go blind!
Spread the word! Get others to do the same. Viva la Revolution!
that only counts as ONE lie ???
I could count at least a half a dozen, without mentioning how the dickwad incorrectly attributed a quote to the malkinator
starting with “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory”
we was in the “Jaws Of Victory” ???
who knew
is that like the “Last Throes of Victory” or something ???
If ya have 8 million in book sales- but ya lose five bucks on each book- well yer in deep shit.
“Unfortunately, there weren’t really any conservative Scoop developers out there to help us.”
They should be thrilled - this means the free market works.
More Bush on Israel-Palestine
Who knew it only took the right place, stars, and a shot to make peace between the two?
Seriously, can anyone name a single major American candidate who is opposed to a two state solution? As for waiting for a while, it took 7 years for Bush to get his ass in gear.
I have to say I have never seen a Froomkin so heavily loaded with so many crazy quotes from the Inmate in Chief. I am stunned.
mack,
My current husband is a database Administrator. Actually so was my ex. What can I say, I really go for the Mister Spock type. Right now he is the only Caucasian in his work group. Indian, Chinese, Pakistani and this one poor white trash American. You wouldn’t believe how amazing the potluck picnics are. There was a Canadian, but he left to go to another job. No Republicans.
I am coming to the view that the Times hired Kristol for the bare-assed baboon effect. It is not his ideas they are interested in but his freak show value and ability to get a rise out of us.
haha!
I feel for Hillary, but she brought this on herself — by hiring Mark Penn.
Live by triangulating inevitability, die by triangulating inevitability.

Scoop! There It Is.

Expecting the Invisible Hand to give a friendly reacharound. Heh.
Hey! I’ve also been thinking about you, wondering where you’ve been. I was relieved to read on the care page that Esten got out of the hospital. Anyway, it’s good to hear from you!
Across all of the polls that interviewed through Sunday night, Obama leads by an average of eight percentage points (37% to 29%), by slightly less (36% to 29%) if we also include the two polls that completed on Saturday. These averages are a near perfect match for our standard and sensitive estimates respectively. In terms of the Obama “bump,” his support has gained an average of 8 percentage points; his net gain (Obama’s gain minus Clinton’s decline) averages 13 points.
Obviously, Obama’s margin has expanded from what we reported yesterday. Add to that the obvious increase since last week and the large number of voters still uncertain about their choice (20% “still trying to make up their minds” on the CNN/WMUR/UNH survey), we should assume that Obama’s advantages will likely continue to grow over the next 24 hours.
(Pollster.com)
Every lying post they put up shows how unlimited their contempt is. Not that the contempt isn’t deserved.
Honestly, the funniest thing is that there are *lots* of Libertarian programmers out there.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if RedState’s coder problem is a result of formerly getting support from Libertarians who told them to fuck off after RedState’s anti-Ron Paul vendetta.
Scotty Rasmussen just pulled a 39% JAR out of his hat for GW Clusterfuck and is runnin round the block sportin a boner.
What? Liberals. Libertarians. It’s all the same ain’t it? The same root word based on the Latin for freedom IIRC. /s
I think we are witnessing mass dimentia, from Bush and his lackeys, to the media, to many of the candidates.
We are reaching a tipping point.
-G
Also two f/18’s crashed in the gulf today. The pilots ejected safely.
dementia.

Today’s xkcd is still vaguely on topic
[warning - extreme geek content @ xkcd]
In related news, those damn conservative websites have made it impossible for me to pay cash for a new Ferrari. You just know Jonah Goldberg is having a laugh at my expense. Please send $200K to….
The BushBankruptcy Guide in action. Schmuck welfare queens, union guys and sales clerks at Wal-Mart and Sears aren’t eligible: they deserve to be at the mercy of predatory lenders, gutted bankruptcy law “protections”, and inadequate state consumer safeguards. The Guide is available only for Wingnuts not yet eligible for Wingnut Welfare. (Even Scaife, the AEI and the NYT have limits.)
The Guide’s predicate is that the demise of a business is never the fault of its owner/managers. It has nothing whatever to do with what they forgot or never learned at Harvard B School. Nothing to do with their choices, or their marketing or hiring plans or their execution. Nothing to do with the quality and smarts of the competition.
The cause is THEM. Not the nuclear weaponed mutant ants from the desert that like to eat sugar and people. No. It’s those DFH’s and their fellow travelers who only provide goods and services to Wingnut competitors. (Somebody at RedState used to work for IBM.)
The Broder Bounce has arrived!
-G
What did he do? Poll his immediate family?
Democrats need to go back to attacking the shrub third term
and talking about how fubar eyerack is
Which Gulf?
It’s not that Scoop developers refused to work for them because they’re all libruls, it’s they need money because they couldn’t find any Scoop developers who would work for them for free.
I think that whether it’s true or just a typical conservative fundraising lie (”Ronald Reagan needs your Social Security check right now to fight for a bill that was actually voted on months ago…”) it’s an interesting commentary on some of the reasons for the explosion of the liberal blogosphere relative to the conservative side. The old adage from campaigns that the Republicans always have more money and the Democrats always have more volunteers seems to apply to the blogosphere as well.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Two U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets — flying off the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman — crashed Monday night in the Persian Gulf, U.S. Navy officials said.
Persian Gulf…in support of Iraq.
Sure sounds like things are getting busy over there.
Jets crash.

Roxanne:
RedState basically told the Paulites to piss off.
I’d bet dollars to donuts that that’s why get tech support anymore.
Ok Ok I admit it. I am behind this all. I did seek to close down RedState through my brilliant code manipulation that no one else but me can figure out (evah!)
And I was going to fix it for 25 grand but now that they have gone pulic I’m upping the ante. No more lousy chump change. I want 600 mill to fix it. That’s right one dollar for each dead Iraqi. Adds up to 600 million. Got that Redstate. And cash only, it’s not that I don’t trust your check but you know how it is….
Oddly enough, it’s been taking me a few months to get through this book by Malcolm Gladwell called “Tipping Point,” and now it’s like I’m watching it come to life right before my eyes with Obama’s campaign. He was the spark needed to set this all off. The floodgates appear to have opened.
Christ, everyone is losing it. Now McCain is screaming about “following Bin Laden to the gates of hell”….
Will the Straight Talk Express overheat on that trip?
-G
Also, the debate numbers are in:
FLASH: 9.3 million watched the ABC Dem debate; 7.3 mil watched the GOP… Developing…
well i meant 600 thousand…
He can’t even quote his fellow wing nuts right. It would be one thing if he misquoted a DFH, but you think he’d be able to tell Malkin from Medved.
He’s apparently way ahead in S.C too.
Bush is getting cloyingly desperate because the reality of his dire straights are setting in.
-G
All that RedState left out of their fundraising letter is “I blame Clinton.”
should be:
Republicans: Hello, we’re the Donner party. There are 12 of us now, but you’d better hurry and seat us or there’ll be fewer of us later and you won’t get as many tips.
Obviously he’s no relation to the original
Some of the people who ran the companies may have been Republicans; I’ve never worked at a software company where a significant portion of the coders were Republican. (I’ve also avoided working at defense contractors.)
Edwards is my candidate. But I could see an Obama/Edwards, Edwards/Obama ticket as both useful and unbeatable. Attractive to disparate groups, lacking Hilary’s baggage (and Bill’s fundraising and ability to sell snow to Inuits), less beholden to corporate lobbyists. A credible message that their government might work as hard to help Main Street as Wall Street.
Obama has a progressive message. But as Krugman keeps trying to remind him, the powers that be ain’t letting go without a Wall Street fight. And Edwards knows how to fight there over what they prize most - money and their liability-free zone.

some great on the ground NH pictures from a local
The levee that is Republicanism is starting to crack and slump into the feats of clay from which it sprang….yee-haw! Couldn’t be a more perfect metaphor for those thugs.
I almost wish W would start drinking again. At least that would explain the nonsense coming out of that idiot.
BREAKING NEWS: The Straight Talk Express has collided with the Crazy Train McCain. Guess which one survived.

Jane I highly recommend emergen C available in single powder packets mixed with water. Tasty, quick two or three times a day. Works like magic for winter head colds….and widely available.
That letter really makes someone at RedState look good. From the RedState “About Us” page:
Two thoughts:
(1) The link at Clayton’s name, oddly enough, goes to a placeholder page for tanalach media, llc, with no apparent content. Strange.
(2) I would not want to be RedState’s technology director, after a fundraising letter went out like the one quoted above. Kind of makes Clayton look a bit less than competent. On the other hand, perhaps he wrote it himself, so as to divert attention toward George Soros and the Vast Leftwing Conspiracy: “It’s not my fault . . .”
Airborne good also, even if the cold’s already underway…and lots of dark chocolate.
If Obama doesn’t win New Hampshire by double digits, somethin’s bad wrong. McCain should take the gooper side- and then it’s on to the next race. Obama will be VERY close to havin this thing put away- the gooper race will only be MORE contentious and confusing.
Khaleefawnia sleazebag Doolittle rumored to be finished.
Notice that the folks dropping like flies were all implicated in the Sibel Emonds news drop yesterday.
-G
Supposedly the McCain’s press bus shit the bed. Now that he’s back on top, he behaved like the asshole frat-boy he’s become and left them in the snow.
-G
If you liked George W. Bush’s frat pranks and leadership, you’ll love John McCain.
I meant so say ‘become again’, because he was Mr. Earnest when he was behind in the polls.
-G
Regardless of what happens and what people think about Obama’s positions, I gotta think all this excitement and energy is going to help with the “More and Better Democrats” mission.
If this all comes to fruition, we must never “put this national nightmare behind us.” We must bury this death-loving and debt-loving killers once and for all. They need to be fully prosecuted and incarcerated or fined so much that they or their spawn can never repeat their evils.
Sounds harsh I know, but after the last few years what more proof does one need. Totally serious and this should be one of first orders of bidness.
I don’t believe in nonna that mess, time is it, the only healer!
“boner” is so childish
I’m pretty disappointed that Doolittle isn’t running. He would have been easy to beat.
adults say “hard-on”
