You can see why Bush loves Musharraf so much, the man is nothing if not completely oblivious to how events affect anyone else but Pervez Hilton Musharraf:
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination was her own fault, the country’s president, Pervez Musharraf, said in an interview that aired Sunday on U.S. television…
Still, he added, "if she had not come out of the vehicle, the protected and armored vehicle, maybe we would have seen her smiling face again today."
I can report that Musharraf did not twirl his mustache while making this statement, but it sure did seem like a mafia don tut-tutting a gunned down rival making the mistake of going out for for linguine with clam sauce one too many times.
Meanwhile, John McCain chirped in that apparently he doesn’t mind if Moosh stayed in power for at least another "hundred years",
Though Musharraf’s popularity at home has plummeted, he retains support from GOP presidential contender Sen. John McCain.
"I think he’s a good man," the Arizonan told NBC’s "Meet the Press." "But I think he’s made mistakes, don’t get me wrong. And we’ve got to move forward with these elections and have them free and fair.
"But I can work with him. He understands the threat to his country that the Taliban and al Qaeda present. And radical Islamic extremists. He’s a very smart man. He’d be one of the first to go. They’ve tried to kill him nine times, OK? Nine times they’ve tried to kill Musharraf. He’s not their favorite guy."
Funny how when it comes to Musharraf, Al Qaeda’s success rate is about what the Pakistani military’s average is aganist Al Qaeda. On the other hand, when it comes to killing Bhuttos, the Pakistani military’s batting average is stunningly high.

May those words echo in his tinny little mind unto eternity.
From George McGovern in this morning’s Post:
Why I Believe Bush Must Go
G’Day.
Always wondered if bush’s (and now McCain’s) love for the Pakistan leader was that they wanted to be able to rule just like him. You know, that ‘military control’ type of thing. Bush would just love to be a dictator and has said as much and I wonder if there isn’t some envy on Bush’s part for the ‘freedom’ Musharraf has in ‘ruling.’
Just wondering while I cannot sleep.
Musharraf has a lot less freedom than you are making out. Dictators have a constant fight for power, and cannot rest in their struggle to hang on to it. “Democratic” leaders have other kinds of struggle, but they are, if able (or surrounded by able aides), capable of exercising power readily. It would be a lot more difficult for Musharraf to start a war than it was for Bush; much, much more difficult for him to muster the coalition of support that he would need. All Bush needed was to order it.
What a hideous way to start the week. Bill “I’m always wrong about everything, all the time” Kristol has coughed up his first furball. He quotes Michelle Malkin, whom he calls a “conservative writer.” That’s all I need to say about him, ever, and may very well be. He will henceforth be known as AWATT: “Always Wrong, All The Time.” Oh, by the way, he hearts him some Huckabee, except at the end when he seems to be praying for Bloomberg to ride in as Savior and prevent a Huckabee win. Mr. Krugman’s column is called “From Hype to Fear,” and he says that the opponents of change, those who want to keep the Bush legacy intact, are very good at the fear thing.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I’m going to dash into the shower to wash the Kristol off, and hope that I’ve got enough brain bleach in the house. Have a good day.
Forgive me — I was so overcome by AWATT that I forgot to say “good morning.” Good morning, pups!
“he’s a good man” That’s the kind of bs Bush always says.
Good morning Attaturk and firepups.
This morning, Mrs. Bilbo and I are imagining a scene along the lines of the restaurant scene from the movie Being John Malkovich in which all the characters utter over and over only the words,
It’s the loony bin for Mrs. Bilbo and me.
shun the Times
It’s a load of crap
In general, I agree. But, not so for Krugman and for the occasional in depth exploratory article. But, I certainly wouldn’t pay money for it.
Mornin’!

I haven’t paid to read the times in years. or search its files either
In California no matter where you live, you can get a library card in any county. Some counties have better online services than others.
you are right of course, but Bush seems to really like people like Musharraf and Putin — looked in thier eyes and souls stuff. Unless it is similarity of their souls that attracts. Just my useless thoughts this a.m.
Am trying not to have a melt down like I did after Dean lost Iowa. Will try to keep open mind. Have argued in many a thread over at Kos over Obama and Clinton, but can’t keep it up. I know we are supposed to get involved, and I will at a local level, can’t stand the national stuff.
Oops, off topic.
Oh dear, My comment at 12 was supposed to be responding to DrZen at 3 and I responded to myself. Need caffeine.
True you can go to the library but I gave up on them when they demanded my Soc Sec number to renew my card which I had held for 30 + yrs. As for the NYT I stopped reading it and every other US dead tree rag years ago. I also stopped watching any “news” on teevee and only tune in to Democracy Now on the google box.
Krugman is worth reading and I do so online.
Read the Krugman column, shun the AWATT Kristol. Obama and Edwards and the NH Republican Party have shown what to do…just shun the effers.
Mornin’, pups -
Not sure I can take another 11 months of the “all politics, all the time” news coverage…have just about decided it’s gonna be the Beeb, Democracy Now and Keith and turn the bloody idjit box off the remainder of the time…..we’ll see how long *that* resolution lasts. *g*
Likewise for Bilbo. Mrs. Bilbo still watches shows like 60 minutes, but I couldn’t care less whether Roger Clemens took steroids or not (saw the promos). I usually check Bill Moyers and Now to see what they’re doing that week. Sometimes I watch, sometimes I don’t. But, that’s it for me.
Good morning pups!
Good morning, and to the rest of the pups as well.
hi , ya’ll. well, it’s monday. i resolved last night to work on my political junkie addiction, which is to say not to feed it, and appreantly that resolution has gone in the trash along with similar resolve.
here’s the thing though. I think McCain’s the next president. Bloomberg is gonna run, however briefly (what is this thing coalescing around him with Boren, Nunn, and chuck hagel? These guys are dc power hitters). That will shift the mentality of the country away from awareness of edwards populist message of throw the bums out. Obama’s got no such message and will take the votes of the idealists, and we’ll be left with McCain, who (unlike Hil for some reason) Americans seem to feels deserves to be pres cause he’s old and nice and was a POW who lived to tell about it. A one of his volunteers said, “The last true great american hero.” Now the papers are saying “Mack is back!” (As in Mack the Knife, but who’s paying attention?).
Nice McGovern said what he did though about impeachment. Impeachment is really the only thing that ’s gonna get the country back on the rails. Without that, more of a runaway train, no matter who’s pres/
sorry to be a monday bummer.
at least it’s warmin up here in maine.
That little quote may be the ultimate description of the depths to which John McCain has sunk after deciding to surrender all principles in pursuit of the nomination.
Does a good man pardon the person most responsible for the world’s black market in nuclear technolgy?
Does a good man refuse to investigate his own military officer’s role in wiring money to Mohammad Atta?
Does a good man allow his own government to obscure the cause of death in the most important political assissination since the turn of the century?
McCain himself was once a good man.
Does a good man, himself a victim of torture, enable his own government to torture?
I call him Wrongway Kristol. Who was the original, Corrigan or somebody, who flew the wrong direction?
in cal they do not ask for your social security number
and the card enables you to go on line and use usually fee based data bases
JoeScar just described Romney as being charismatic. I don’t see it.
NOw Edwards is on.
when I’m asked for my social security number by people who have no business asking for it — can’t imagine my library doing that btw — but anyway, I leave it blank or make one up. That number is for tax purposes.
from their website
Oh, I wouldn’t say shun Kristol. It is always good to read things for entertainment and, knowing he is AWATT, as a warning of what sort of ridiculous bullshit will ripple out into Dumbfuckistan.
I am starting to think it may be revenge.
If Mushface is so sure those jihadis are behind Bhutto’s killing, why hasn’t he despatched a Pakistani army division to the tribal areas for retribution?
Bhutto reportedly cried when she was bombed, therefore she deserved to lose.
