I am really getting annoyed with your lack of research. Yes, France put a freeze on GMO’s but France also lead the EU in the use of GMO Corn for the past 5 years.

Much like China has not allowed GMO;s from the west but have been using GMO’s that they have developed,

Again if you want some real info send me an e-mail before you embarrassed yourself again.

Officer, I admit I moved that ton of garbage, so I could put my trash underneath it.

Well, what’s the difference in tossing your trash over a hillside and a company polluting.

In the extreme we might even say the car companies and we have decided to pollute the air by using cars which produce fumes.

We are all to blame and must all work together to change this situation. The environment shouldn’t be polluted and we need to find some other source of mobile energy than oil.

I’ve been rereading Cradle to Cradle by McDonough and Braungart.
Also In the Absence of the Sacred by Mander. Thinking of more wild-foraging this year, perusing the Gibbons classic Stalking the wild Asparagus.

Moved into our near Zero Net Energy house in June and am loving the super thick walls and radiant floor heat in polished concrete slab. The solar hot water is a bust with 2 feet of snow on the roof, but i’m still generating some juice on the PV panels…

Looking forward to working for local politicians in the summer/fall. Settling in to my new small farming community in Western Massachusetts. Been enjoying FDL. Loved your piece today. Celebrated First Night/Long Night, but didn’t do much tonight…

peace be with you in the new year!

hmmm why won’t HTML underline work?

If the was sun here today it was hanging around for so a short of time that I missed it.
Happy B-Day Dr Murphy!! May you have many more (without the indoor shower:):)) Sorry for grabbing the zed and running but the little lady needed help get an e-mail out for her students next semester. It took me ten years to get her on a computer so I guess I can’t complain when she needs help.
Your article both entertaining and informative. Global warming is definitely a subject that needs to be addressed seriously by this and every other country.
Well I guess my little present came in an article from Scientific American, January 2008 issue. It is titled “A Solar Grand Plan” by Ken Zweible, James Mason and Vasilis Fthenakis. I deals with a massive build out of solar farms generating 2.9 terawatts of power and using DC transmission lines to transmit it to cities. They envision 46,000 sq miles of of land would be need using land in the southwestern US. They project a $420 billion cost spread out through 2050. Part of the solution includes 344 million cars electrically powered using the generated power and plugging in to the grid. Allowing us to reduce oil imports to a trickle.
They also envision using bio-fuels and to generate power after sunset using compressed air being pumped into underground facilities and then using conventional generators to provide power. All of this using current technology and not factoring in advances in the technology.
Well you will just have to read the article, if we could just end the war it could be paid for by what we have been spending on on that disaster.

Millineryman, thanks for the link to the Organic Seed Growers’ Conference - that is good news.

And wangdangdoodle, thanks for sharing Seeds of Change with us - and good luck with this year’s garden.

QuakerGirl, thanks for letting us in on the King Cake tradition - what joy!

And thanks to all who’ve contributed their thoughts and kind words (whether or not the database errors let us see your thoughts)

Bon appetit!

Or as Philosopher Quayl would say…

Bon Appetite

and folks - jane has a (nearly) brand-new post upstairs about our pal Mark Penn - the “pollster” from B-M who tanked Big Dog’s carbon tax…

and went on to be Hillary’s BFF, chief pollster, and campaign guru.

Hey - nothing like a vote for change, right?

Happy birthday, Kirk. Your post is most snark-a-licious!

I’ve got Seeds of Change open in another window, making my list for this Spring’s garden. No more hybrids, heirloom only this time.

I’m embarrassed to admit that there was too much weather for me to ski today. Temp around 20, furious winds, snowing 2″ per hour. I’m no longer comfortable handling such conditions. So I almost finished reading Under the Banner of Heaven

Series of storms moving through, but I’m determined to get out tomorrow. Thanks for asking.
