Sharon Jones' singing always elevates my condition.
What's on your mind tonight?
Zed
Wow, zed?
Zed?
Eureka Springs!
Hi ES.
I’m rubbed the wrong way. That’s my condition!
Dang! You folks know about Cheneycare?
http://www.guaranteedhealthcare.org/
Eureka!
Well at least one of ya did…! ;-)
glad your elevated…hope you have a feather bed to come down on…no punaise intended
what is on my mind….. theory of relativity …. string theory…. quantum physics…
No it is that desert sitting in my kitchen that is calling my name
Try rubbing backwards.
hi all…where’s suzi ?
I have a debate-ache.
Wow, they all look haggard, I’m finally blessed to see the Dem Debate, the Repugs were as abysmal as advertised… ;-)
Ow. every way is the wrong way. I’m a mess, I tell ya!
big bad storm took her electricity
The dems are bringin’ their A game. the repubs are all looking er bush league.
Her power has been out since yesterday afternoon. All other reports say she is doing alright.
I have another cold, and am flying tomorrow. Yuck. I really want to go on this trip, but I dread the flight.
BTW…additional comment left for you at end of previous thread.
It was a slog to be sure. But it was cool to see both groups back-to-back like that, regardless of the class-bereft hosts.
…they sure are taking the long route getting it back on…
Was shocked at how dopey and dull the gop gang seemed. wow, is that all they’ve got?
We lost our electricity for seven hours (I almost slipped and typed seven years, ha!). The internet withdrawals are painful. Maybe that’s why I’m rubbed the wrong way. And wet, too. (I’m in SF bay area).
She probably vented by gnawing on a Redwood or two, odds say she’s half way thru one by now… *g*
…out over here for a day but right near an old folks home so they hustled to keep the ventilators going for obvious reasons…it is a wrench not having internment, I mean internet…oops, sorry
Thanks D.
It is cool to know that he’s human off camera…you never know what your going to get when dealing with a celeb. We had a local TV weatherman come to our high school and he was so totally arrogant and bizarre. He ended the answer to every question with “and that’s the story of macho”. So friggin’ weird. I’ll never forget it! Glad Charlie is somewhat normal after all!
Oh dear, I have flown with a cold.
Hurts the ears if you don’t swallow or chew gum a lot.
dosido at 23,
We have a lot of friends in the SF bay area who took wind and water damage and lost electricity. When they got back online (nerds get back online before they fire up the coffeemaker,)they were warning the Arizona side of the “family” to batten down the hatches. So far, we are getting a much more attenuated version here in Glendale. Just a gentle soaking rain, no wind. We are supposed to get more tomorrow. Looks like you took the wind out of it for us. Many thanks.
I just dropped in…to see what condition my condition was in! Yeah! Yeah! Ohhhh Yeaahh!
INot me. I have a debate high it was so so over the top that dems dominated the repugs. Everyone was trying to keep up with the good stuff Edwards was laying out. A site for sore eyes and am I elated. I do have down to cover with and pitter patter to soften my snooze. Thanks FDL for a lovely evening and thanks to the debaters all of whomhelped america take a little step forward tonight and they really didn’t do much quibbling with one another. they were a team sort of.
Oh you’re welcome *g* the kids found it very exciting!
hey don’t mention it Marretta…we love getting bashed by high winds and losing the odd Mimosa tree on the front lawn that blocked the front stairs when it went down…
I’m watching Edwards talk about jobs and saying college grads are most at risk (among others) and the camera panned to a college kid in the audience looking positively stunned. anyone else see that? like he was at a horror movie.
Rumors fly about crisis in the Clinton camp.
Time Mag: “Clinton Machine Shaken by Setback“
Hallelujah, brothers and sisters! Schadenfreude is such sweet sorrow.
“with conviction, tell me why”
hope you do better than the hollies…tell the pilot to keep the nose up you got a tail wind. may the big bugaloo in the sky keep the jive ass monkey turbidity in check have a nice flight and make sure your on trans love airways cuase they get you there on time
Did you see that they are predicting 8-14 inches of snow in the high country?
Ya dosido I did see that…. since two of my college graduate kids are STILL working at their college jobs. One at Starbucks and the other in retail.
No bad comments for Starbucks or Costco because they pay for benefits for part time staff and make sure they have enough hours to qualify for their benefits.
Boy that’s an oldie!
Dang, that’s the one thing I forgot to buy today. Gum. It’s a must even without a cold. Another trip to the store won’t kill me, I guess.
I did not see the debates tonight, just finished reading the FDL liveblogging. I’m thinking about just doing that from now on. Too much fun. I did find it amusing that some of the Obama and Edwards supporters were starting to get a bit snippy with one another. My take-away is that Obama is thinking about Edwards as a possible VP and Edwards is doing the same with Obama. The supporters are following suit. Good thing there are no egos involved in the process, huh?
You know, I don’t want to vote for HRC but I have found her to be more “likable” during the campaign than when she was first lady! JMHO
Cheneys condition has me alarmed this morning:
U.S. Considers New Covert Push Within Pakistan
(snip)
:D Thanks, bigbrother!
Mz Tumulty does not utter Edwards name once in her entire article… WTF?
this pretty much says it all
http://www.dailykos.com/story/.....142/431084
spiderpaws,
Oh, sorry about the Mimosa. I was worried about my olive trees. They took a real beating a couple of years ago and haven’t totally recovered. Wind almost always does more damage than water unless there is flooding. We always seem to get your weather 24 hours later and usually milder.
Oh yeah, baby!
I saw Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings in a small Toronto club about five years ago. Absolutely smokin hot that group is! It’s been great seeing her gain more popularity.
Heh, for taking second he loses 5-10% mentions…
Katymine,
Yeah, like you said, more than I’ve seen predicted in the 20 years I’ve lived here. We need it awfully bad. My friend in Sedona called a couple of hours ago and told me she was ready for it. All stocked up with lots of firewood.
My read of tonights debate.. Edwards will fight for change. Obama will capitulate for change /s. Hillary will mandate we all buy insurance from the same old crooks. Richardson the diplomat knows a fight will be needed, once elected, more than Obama does.
That’s amazing…I knew he was getting pretty short shrift but, wow.
I also noticed the short MSNBC headline the next day: Obama wins, Clinton, Edwards turned away in Iowa (words to that effect). Ticked me off big time.
One year(when I was a kid) my Dad was trapped in his Game & Fish truck on the North Rim with snow up to the windows for three days. Haven’t seen snow like that since lived at Tahoe or Oregon.
Oh well here’s a bit of light. George Stephanopolous thinks Edwards was the exception to the group of tired candidates tonight.
My computer saw folks doing the Bump in that video and locked up in a fit of laughter.
Digg Eureka and Thers posts here!
Thers Late Night: Wingnut Crap of the Week…
And Eureka’s Late Late Nite - What’s Your Condition?…
Oh dear, it’s late! Talk about tired…good night pups!
Newtonusr, I don’t know how to digg, ya dig? But if I did, I would!!
The MSM continue to make me ask the same question I always ask. “Did we watch the same debate?” When the tinfoil hat is on I think it is just a huge conspiracy, other times I think they are just lazy-assed, overpaid, entitled, entrenched in their little spin-zone bubble and don’t bother doing anything but repeating what their corporate overlords tell them to. Could be both, I guess.
before we get carried away here, Iowa’s important but hardly the world. I think since ‘72, the Dem caucus winner won the nomination only 3 of 7 times… Clinton’s down, but hardly out. All of the people I personally know who supported her before the caucus continue to support her now, and I’m certainly not about to become an Obama fan just ’cause he delivered in one state. There’s no schadenfreude here, in my opinion, or shouldn’t be. Let’s reserve that particular construct for the rethugs.
Night, dosido.
Busted, your computer must be very young. :)
Katymine,
A friend got snowed-in at the Sunset Point rest area a couple years ago, before it burned, for about five hours while they cleared the roads. Car full of cranky kids, and that is my idea of Hell.
Cinnamonape did a great stat compilation on this very subject a few nights ago. Let me see if I can find it.
I don’t know. Scarecrow posted a late breaking NH poll in a thread this evening. Obama was way ahead of the entire pack with 38 percent.
About the only Conglomerate Media I ever hear/see are CNN cut-ins on Air America Radio. Had it on a few times the day after the Iowa caucuses.
7:30am: Mentioned results as the second story after a fluff “lede story” about a jobs report and Shrub was going to fix it all. Never mentioned Edwards at all and was probably the shortest story in the entire cut-in.
Around noon: Nothing at all about Iowa. Job Report and Shrub’s fix again.
Around 5:00pm: Nothing about Iowa. Job reports and Shrub soundbite again.
After weeks of build up about this, this is utterly incomprehensible to me for any Presidential election, let alone one where significant history is unfolding before our eyes, with Barack and Hillary as leading contenders. Also, Edwards beating the Clinton machine while being outspent many times over is a huge story, but they must never speak his name.
There are still people who argue that there can’t be a conscious effort on the part of Conglomerate Media owners to control the masses, and do everything they can to suppress politicians that might screw with the status quo.
I submit the above as Exhibit #98,583 as proof that such a conspiratorial effort is real.
Get someone to check out FDL or similar place everyday. We have a long way to go.
Glad you’re liking her more. I find it amusing that most comments about Hillary are preceded with “I’m not a supporter”…but… (take your pick: she’s done some good things; she’s a fighter; she’s been through the wars…) I attribute this to the fact that so many of the commenters are downright nasty about Hillary, and ususally without substance as to her positions or votes. The VRWC really did a job on all of us, didn’t they? Has that made us reluctant to express support for her or even understanding?
Clearly, Hillary is damn good at lots of things and she just may come out of this as our candidate. Let’s save a little face now, just in case.
Once again, I say that any of the top three: Obama, Edwards, or Clinton can be my next president.
Would that have been during the late 50s or very early 60s?
A member of my family in the Army or Air Force did rescue work on the reservation; a huge blizzard made it so no one had food for the animals or people. He said he got very tired of eating mutton and peaches. ;)
I’m fading fast. Nite, all. See you all tomorrow.
Here’s my prediction for NH. Edwards will do much better than the polls are showing now. Much better. On that pleasant thought, adieu.
Found it.
Here.
Good night OtherWa.. Safe travels.
One bemusing oddball problem arose in Iowa, that I found extremely amusing… What caused the meltdown of the Repug’s Caucus reporting, in that, they had half the folks, and, they still couldn’t resolve it until well after the Dems had…
Sam Walton’s heirs agree - why else would they have her on Walmart’s Board of Directors?
Question is - just what is she good at on behalf of the Walton billionares?
One was American Research Group, which had Iowa WAY wrong. There was a Rassmussen poll that was similar to the ARG though. I did see some later called “tracking polls,” one by Zogby, that had Obama and Clinton equal. Edwards might’ve helped himself a little tonight, but he has a lot of ground to make up still.
They showed some two-shots tonight of Edwards and Obama, and those two really seemed to work well together, so that would make for quite the formidable ticket. I’d say unbeatable.
If that happens, it would then be our jobs to make sure they don’t sellout to the megaBanks anymore, as they have both done in the past.
OMG… that is how my Dad was rescued …. We lived here until 1965 … sure scared my Mom back in the days of no cell phones. It is when the F&G put in CB radios into their vehicles.
k.. I’ll say it. I’m now undecided between Clinton and Edwards, and moving towards Clinton. On the issues, ‘cept for the war.
Blub and newtonusr,
Are we the only three people who don’t think this race will be over after New Hampshire? Can someone please explain while this country insists on doing this every four years?
I don’t think it will be over Tuesday night.
Markos touched on this…. the Dems had twice as many people show up to caucus, their website worked like a dream & the Repugs did not have a reporting website. He described it as disarray.
Marretta…. I don’t believe the race is over UNTIL the delegates vote in the convention.
Ya know, when Clinton declared I remember thinking, “Nooooo…you’re screwing this up!” I never thought she could get the nomination, and that she’d take votes away from a better candidate.
I wonder where Edwards would be now if Hillary never ran. Would he be in first, or would Obama get more of her votes? Guess it doesn’t matter now.
I never understood any of the support for her. So robotic and dis-engaged from emotions.
I cannot believe that FDL is running an ad on this site for Ann Coulter.
WTF???!!!
I don’t actually believe that. I was just citing the stats.
If Edwards can pull a bit closer to Obama in NH, he may be in it.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think she’s on that board anymore…and when she was it was when Sam Walton was alive. Perhaps his policies were anti union also, but mostly I think it’s been the heirs.
And you know how people with big names get on boards…they’re invited. This may be a lame excuse for her, but having board memberships on your record show you are capable of decision making. I think if we could see a list of board members of powerful public companies, we’d be surprised. In fact, wasn’t the wife of a just retired Congressman from Texas (brains not working right now, can’t think of his name) on the Enron Board? And former Senator Mitchell on the Disney board.
good point. Speaking personally, I must confess that I’m mainly interested in the pulse of California. After all, the governator tells us that we’re now a sovereign country. Frankly, I don’t know why we need to be concerned about foreign lands like New Hampshire and Iowa :)
You’ll see them all over the progressive blogs…it is from the google ads.
707! Ann Coulter supports FDL!
Musta been the same RNC servers that deleted Rove’s 5 million Emails and rigged Ohio’s votes… ;-)
I saw that ad here weeks ago, and almost gagged. I guess it is a batch of adds for a certain group. Sigh.
Seriously…just curious what people find in her that’s worth supporting. I honestly can’t find anything to get excited about.
I feel the only reason she’s in this position is from name recognition, and at least 4 years of BigMedia saying she’ll be unstoppable. Without these things, she’d go nowhere IMHO.
I’m moving in that direction also… (shhh! don’t tell anyone!)
But remember to hold your nose and click those. Her publisher pays FDL for that click, if I’m not mistaken! :-)
Hi Blub,
Re:
My criteria probably vary from yours. I’ve been on the barricades fighting the military-industrial complex since 1968. I don’t see this as a party matter. I see this as a pro-imperialism warmonger vs. decent human being thing. On that divide, I must admit that I’m considering switching my party registration based on this wonderful Stan Goff article in support of the one exciting presidential candidate who been completely consistent in his opposition to American militarism and the rise of fascism.
While I also very much appreciate the efforts of Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel, the fact of the matter is that these are not viable candidates.
I will say with complete clarity and sincerity however that I will never vote for a woman who gives every indication that if elected president she will become a war criminal almost overnight. That is totally unacceptable to me.
I believe that she’s not a populist, unlike shrub and Obama (and maybe Edwards). Populist demagogues with glib tongues scare me, and after shrub, I believe we need a more technocratic and wonkish president, who likes and cares about the process of policy-making and leadership and not merely the whole medium-is-the-message crap that we’ve had for the last 7 years.
I don’t see them with the firefox add-on Adblock Plus.
Here is a diary about how the attendees responded to Clinton
http://www.dailykos.com/story/.....810/431425
All right… I am heading to bed… nite all
bonkers - I watched her town hall meeting this afternoon… on the stuff I actually know something about (education, most particularly), she is spot on… my sense is that she has an excellent grasp of the issues - all the minutiae… I was frankly quite impressed.
nite katymine
Aloha, Katy!
Right now I would be happy enough with either Obama or Edwards. I don’t trust either of them totally, but I am leaning toward Obama because I’m not totally convinced that Edwards won’t cave and go for power and money first if push comes to shove. They both can, of course, and the winner will, but my gut reaction is that it may take Obama longer. Both have egos that scare me, but they both have wives I trust more than I trust them. My distrust gives lie to the poster earlier this evening who said all Obama supporters were delusional or hopelessly innocent. I am neither. I really think that Hillary has already sold us out, which breaks my heart. If Hillary gets the nomination, I will support her, but she will have to prove to me that she really cares about us bottom feeders. Wealth and power turn people into monsters awfully fast.
oh what do you base your contention that she’s destined to be a war criminal. shrub’s a war crminal and quite possibly the worst and most destructive president this country has ever had. To tar any of our very capable Democratic candidate with that brush just ’cause you don’t think she’s enough of a progressive for you is, IMO, out of line. I respect your opinion, but let’s have a little faith. There’s a far cry from Bill Clinton Redux and the criminal depradations of the shrub administrations.
People with big names get on megacorp boards because they are invited - and choose to accept.
And choose to be paid many tens to hundreds of thousands in directors’ fees each year.
And choose to be legally obligated as directors to make all corporate decisions solely to maximize corporate profits.
No matter who dies.
So people with big names accept the invitation to sell their names and signatures to the greater glory and profit of the megacorp paying them big bucks.
Perfect finishing school for the ambtious pols (of any gender) now servicing megacorps in the ornate Federal bordello.
(No disrespect to sex workers intended.)
What pushes me over the edge completely in favor of Edwards is his anti-poverty efforts. Since Kerry conceded the race in 2004, Edwards has been single-minded about this issue, the “Two Americas”, and I believe him.
And Edwards is a wealthy man. Doesn’t need the scratch as far as I can tell.
Hillary is a tight-ass. Sorry, no way around it. She’s smart, she’s loyal but she’s still a tight-ass. The fact that she freely, ignorantly voted for the War on Iraq doesn’t help, either. And please don’t give me that shit that she expected George W. Bush to be either smarter or more circumspect than he proved to be.
Hillary gave that stupid chimpanzee the right to go to War against Iraq and she’s never fucking apologized! Did she really expect Bush to be honorable? Then she’s outright stupid.
At least, Edwards realized he was wrong to trust Bush and has apologized and Obama (who was not in the Senate at the time) has said he would have opposed the War.
If you care about honesty and integrity, you can’t support Hillary (except against any of the Republicans, who, if anything , are even less honorable).
I myself support John Edwards because I believe he is for the poor and the middle class Americans. Hillary is part of the DLC Corporate Democrats and Obama is a “gift-child” of corporate America, too. Neither of them will fight for the rights of ordinary Americans like John Edwards. He may be rich now, but he is “one of us,” the working people of America. He knows what it feels like to go hungry, he will stand up to the corporate greed monsters (the Halliburtons, the Wal-Marts, the Exxons) better than any other Democrat.
John Edwards for President!
g’ night all… it’s been an exciting day!
Kirk,
Thanks for the sex worker disclaimer, that is what made your post art.
I used to serve on a large corporation’s board… and I’m hardly a big name or whatever.. just a financial professional whose job obligations required me to serve in that role in respect of a company in which we held an investment. Does that make me a war criminal in your eyes?
People in this rather poor area of Ohio have been telling me they’d vote for her since 2000. They simply say, “She’s a fighter, and she’ll get us health care.”
But now, I think they’d vote for any Democrat, or at least that’s what I’m hearing.
Nite OC!
Isn’t that cool! I’ll tell my family member.
Hi CTuttle,
Re:
I’ve found only one blogger to be examining this issue in depth. Bev Harris of Black Box Voting has a thread on the matter.
Nothing is conclusive, but the implications are certainly ominous. There’s a bit of speculation about why Giuliani’s vote total decreased by 2,000+ votes during the initial tally period. An explanation offered by a party rep did not answer the question. And there’s also the question of why 65 precincts are still not reported.
Bev Harris can be considered an expert on vote fraud. She’s not declaring the Iowa GOP caucus to be fraudulent, but rather that there are serious red flags in how the GOP votes have been reported.
One scenario that was discussed was related to the Ron Paul position as the #5 vote getter at 10%. What if the Giuliani votes were taken from Rudy’s column and added to Thompson’s, sending him up to #4 in the rankings? I’m just sayin’… That would be a significant fraud. We have no proof that this occurred, in this vote. But such things have certainly happened in the 230 years of shaky voting we’ve seen in this nation.
As for the issue of whether your individual acts on the corporate board would make you a war criminal, as I did not raise the matter of war crimes, perhaps you have confused my comment with another comment.
[If the board is that of a corporation (like the one in San Jose) paid for “renditions” - or a corporation piad for DU weaponry, the answer may well be yes, but that is beside my point.]
If the corporation in which your company chose to have an investment - to enrich your company - made corporate decisions that chose profit over the health or safety of anyone, you are personally responsible.
Limited liability currently shields corporate directors from personal financial liablity for such decisions.
I believe I’ll live to see the day when limited liablity and other fictions dissolve and corporate dircetors face full liablity for decisions which harmed communities, workers, and ecosystems for corporate profit.
And I’ll love it.
I had read her article, I liked her plea for any screen-grabs… I never could log on to their site during the nite, had no prob with the Dem’s, and every 30 secs it updated… ;-)
Margot,
I sometimes wonder if the people who are really angry about what the repubs have done to this country think Hillary would be the best candidate because she is a fighter, and the ones who are just sick of the “with us or against us” attitude of the cheney/bush folks go for Obama because he talks about being everyone’s president. The people who hate the corporations wiping out the middle class while they struggle to just survive go for Edwards. If you their each candidate’s message at face value instead of looking at what they have actually done, they all seem like good bets. All three of them have put their own personal interests first at times. The question is which one will do it less in the future. That is the real question. I’m not sure what the answer is. I know any of the three are a heck of a lot better than any Republican.
Re:
That would be Phil & Wendy Gramm. Wendy was rewarded with a seat on the Enron board and a ton of money for immorally and unethically changing the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulations when she was the head of that agency. Clearly she was being rewarded for changing the rules of the futures game to make it easier for Enron to cheat the public and Enron’s counterparties and do so without legal consequence.
It’s one of the most shameful cases on record of the public trust being completely abused by greedhead Republicans.
