Huckabee’s campaign people are now referring to Huck as "Little Obama." Rather than craft an original message, how may times will the Democrats cop Obama’s "bipartisan" meme?

wow
Oh, crap. Don’t tell me that it’s Diane Sawyer and Stephanopoulis doing the honor for the Democratic side? Shit.
NO NOT HER! SHE”S A BOZO
I think Obama is dead wrong when he talks about ‘bipartisanship’ and ending the rancor between the two parties. He does not seem to notice that in taking that position, he is stabbing the Dems in the back, and is falling into the trap that the Repubs have laid – that of equating the relentless attacks on Dems with the idea that both parties are equally culpable. The Republicans have been doing this since Bill Clinton got into office. He is either unaware of it – which is not a quality I want in the next President – doesn’t care about it, or is part of it, which is not what I want in the next President either.
Will Hillary have Madeline Albright standing next to her?
That *so* radiates “change”.
At least it isn’t Cokie Roberts.
Oh, maybe they’re just doing commentary?
Thank God Repugs are gone…. that was too painful
If you haven’t seen this most recent poll, it shows a huge shift.
I hate George Steph. Hate him. I’m very sorry he’s involved in this debate.
Jane, you may use All Cod, No Piece.
Who says the Repubicans are not inspiring?
Is Sawyer really doing it? If so, I refuse to watch.
these people are both too ‘nice’ focused. this isn’t gonna be as good as the last one.
where’s the scotch?
Can I continue to triangulate, the lake, debate and the terrible towels.
I agree. I just hope he’s running as a centrist in order to take back the White House and then moving to the left once he’s in office.
For which we are all profoundly grateful. Does she have any reason for doing what she does, other than being Hale Boggs’ daughter?
I do like having both groups on the same channel one after the other. It really draws the contrast between, as Howard Dean put it at the DNC meeting, a group that looks like the next generation of America vs. a group that looks like America in the 1950s.
Anyone who says anything positive about bipartisanship is out, as far as I’m concerned.
How come?
Jane — did you mean to include McCain and exclude Edwards in the pictures in the post?
George S – “Fred Thompson had a terrific night!”
wtf
I think Obama is dead wrong when he talks about ‘bipartisanship’ and ending the rancor between the two parties.
Nah, he’s just eight years early with it. In the meantime, we need a mean motherf*cker of a street-fighter…
Thanks for fixing that for me! Sometimes I type too fast…
nononono we don’t want any spin!
is it online anywhere or do we have to watch the TV?
oops, my bad. I see it’s an ABC foto.
Jane sez Huckabee’s campaign people are now referring to Huck as “Little Obama.”
ET sez Paging Dr. Drakblack, pging Dr. Darkblack….?
ok this is how the MSM helps the hapless repubs. they give the dems the vacuous moderators.’
gawd is there no justice in this world?
Then it’s typical MSM to leave JRE out. How pointed.
Unfortunately, it usually works the other way around.
why is there a picture of John McCain in the Democratic debate thread? Shouldn’t it be John Edwards?
oopsie. Jane?
Yea, like some lawyer who wilted when he had to talk to Darth. Rotsa Ruck.
The problem with that is he would not be able to say he had a mandate for progressive action.
agreed!
You’re welcome, it was an easy typo.
This is more what’s going on…
My mistake…you beat me to it. :)
Oh God NO!
-G
Well one interesting aspect is going to be the dynamic that sets up.
Hill Girl wants to show case what a funny, spontaneous, agent of change she is.
Edwards wants to set up the contest between him and Obama he senses is unfolding.
Obama wants to begin to knock Hill down for the count, and take on Edwards.
I think Dianne Sawyer said he had a nap
Is that Dennis Hooper in the background?
Hey, he stayed awake through the whole thing! You just have to set expectations appropriately. *g*
Kind of like the 2004 debates — until we started freeping the online polls, the pundits were repeating their “analysis” of 2000, saying Bush did better than expected if he didn’t drool on himself.
Who cares? Bush took 49% and called it a mandate.
One would think/hope so…
Agree!
And Richrdson will continue to showcase his experience because he can, and is figuring out if he wants to jockey for a place in the Obama cabinet.
Dang.
diane go suck an egg
When GS interviewed Edwards, he was downright nasty to him. Nearly snarling.
Also, when he moderated the last debate he introduced everyone with their latest poll numbers (making all but one look foolish and embarassed). “Senator Christopher Dodd who is polling at 3% nationally”. It was extremely unfair, ungracious, and beneath the respect these lawmakers deserve. I’d feel the same way if he had done it to the repubs.
This link works for some, in some browzers:
http://www.wmur.com/video/14986153/index.html
Little Osama is closer to the truth…
I did campaigning for Edwards today and photoblogged some of it:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..020/431223
Ok, everyone take a deep fucking breath, they just said Charlie was going to moderate. jesus
this is good, though I would rather it be between the hill and edwards, I think edwards wins the battle of ideas no matter who he faces
Yeah.. amazing contrast there, to put the two groups up against each other like that. Like I said before, the rethugs don’t have a candidate. They just have six embalmed symbols of their own resentment and obsolescence.
he took nothing, he would have lost in a landslide if his pals didn’t own the machines that counted the votes
Yea, until the election.
My lady and me are sitting here waiting for the leaders of our party to come on. Lahoma has promised me she won’t pick on any of the Democratic contenders until after the “debate”.
What’s happened to the WMUR feed?
You never learn, do ya! :)
So why is McCain up at the top with Hillary & Obama?
Good evening friends. Hi Jane. Who’s got a once-sentence summary of the repub debate?
I said “took” not “won” :)
yes he does
i hope and pray he cleans everyone’s clock tonight.
“How can you use so many words to say nothing?”
My apolitical wife’s comment.
good point!
AP – Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are locked in a dead heat for the New Hampshire primary, according to a poll released Saturday that underscores the tight Democratic race after his win in Iowa.
The logic goes like this:
Did Fred fall asleep? No? Then he had a terrific night!
oh yea, we spell is jeebus or some shit like dat, my bad.
Oh hell. Me too.
Did George Heffalumpugus see the same debate I saw? “Fred Thompson had a terrific night”?! WTF?
i think i’m gonna get an eye lift just like diane’s
Wow! 71 comments already and the debate hasn’t even started! Nice job. LOL
Are we up?
I am eating freshly baked cheescake.
Looks like Seattle trounced the Giants?
demi, does
I’m not a particular fan of his, but that’s because I’m not a fan of the WA.,DC folks who think their world IS the world.
Wow. She looks 40 years younger now.
Glad she came back downstairs. I guess you lured her with that margarita?
Hi Kay. I have been enjoying your blog!
something about 15 min break
Steph’s view was from the watchtower of The Village.

Tijuana tuck and roll.
This is what I was thinking of watching the rethugs:
ODE TO THE OLD WHITE MEN
(paraphrasing Percy Shelley, and apologies to him)
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter’d visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp’d on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock’d them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“I am the Old White Man, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
Um, Ron Paul was the sane-sounding one. If that don’t scare you I don’t know what will…
I grabbed the picture off the ABC website. It was not a slight at Edwards. If someone wants to do the photoshop and send it to me, go for it.
She used McCains make-up artist who doubles as Thompson’s mortician.
-G
I was talking about your effort to calm the seas…again. Fruitless. Oh, and Go Steelers! :)
Perris
Thankin’ ya!
Every once in a while I get it right.
Thanks TexBetsy! How ’bout them photos of the storm we just had? Nice huh? Let’s just say I’m looking forward to 40 degrees tomorrow. We all are, actually. ;-)
Evangelicals with be soooo swooony scared if Barack Obama wins, because then the United States will truly be an
Obamanation!
They beat the Redskins.
Back to the Dem debate….
I know, I was joshin.
Exactly. Man, any tighter and she’d have a fish face (tight skin, bulging eyes). LOL!
hil looks pretty good after hours of on her feet taking questions from the crowd
Dead men talking—no country for old men.
-G
He stayed awake past 8 PM
Nuclear terrorism as the first question. Interesting choice.
let us know when your next standup gig is please
Hines!
Loo Hoo,
I’ve got sound, but the video stream is stuck on a freeze frame of O and E and they look like they are prayin’ Hard.
Right off the bat — ask the Dems why they don’t care about the scaries in the world!
sent a link with images off google.
I’m much funnier on-line.
-G
Hey Kirk … I guess that is an accomplishment …
talk about phoning it in sheesh
I think that talk about ‘bipartisanship’ is what most people are responding to. I think we progressives don’t want to admit it, but a lot of people are sick of the infighting; they’ve decided they must change sides to put a stop to this fifty-fifty knock down drag out crap. They actually want to move onward and upward, seeking to fix our global warming problems, health care, ending the war, and how to deal with immigration and terrorism more rationally.
My personal wish is that more were outraged at what has been done to our Constitution and our government agencies. I personally wish more candidates would discuss some of the abuses. This country needs some civics lessons, badly!
Everyone clinging to the cliche that Obama’s fluff–your’re going to begin to see in fact, his positions aren’t mere poetry–they have plenty prose.
His appeal is in the poetry epicenter though.
Obama would “strike”?
uh oh obama stumbles
No chance. Too many of them sat on their thumbs and let it happen.
Obama reads the National Intelligence Estimates. Well, that alone makes him more qualified than the Current Resident to occupy 1600. /snark.
David Sirota has a nice story examining the “real” Obama.
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20060626/sirota
Sirota spent a lot of time with Obama and cam away saying this:
“By almost all measures, Obama has been a solid liberal, both in his early career as a community organizer and then as a local politician.”
I keep thinking a lot of what Obama’s been doing is because of the huge societal hurdles has to overcome to gain “approval” of much of America, based on his skin color and economic class background. Obama’s life history and his actions for his entire adult life demonstrate that he’s quite Liberal, so I hope he can show those colors more if he’s the Prez.
Thanks, Deb. Refresh and it’ll be there.
Actually, I wonder… Many Christians might very decide to support Obama if someone like Mitt or Ghoul get the nomination. Even my ardently rethug, perpetually peppy fundie neighbors have said of Obama “at least he’s a Christian”.. I’m not talking about a few deep south dead-ender Jihaddism, but the plurality of mainstream evangelical voters. For many, their Chrisitianity trumps their conservatism…
nu cle ar
thank you mr. edwards!
three whole syllables.
finally!
I am telling you, whichever of these people wins, they will attack the first thing that raises it’s head. They will have to. . .
I don’t think it’s 50/50, though – more like 95/5
Hillary looks pissed.
Edwards is making the point that Musharraf is a nut case.
I don’t see Edwards as any more of a streetfighter than Obama. And you have to remember–the pathetic Congress including the gutless Democratic Bush ditto heads are always in the equation.
I’m know as Mrs. Worthless-booger by my brother, the ultimate SeaHags fan outside of Seattle.
I must concur.
He needs to be seen as anything but angry.
-G
Unfortunately, many young people have bought into Ralph Nader’s lie about both parties being the same. So I can understand why young idealistic voters are attracted to Obama.
Regardless of who wins, we need to focus on the Progressives in the Congress and force the party to do what we want.
I hope so too, but I believe he can.
Well, I’ve been a Bear fan all my life.
Thanks Jane & RevDeb
does anyone think the dems might be gearing up to leave iraq and go into pakistan attacking al Q from both sides as it were?
cwazy wabbit
Blub, I think you speak wisely.
It appears Richardson can also pronounce the word “nu cle ar.”
Musharraf maybe an sob, but he’s the Republican’s s.o.b.
Edwards and Obama have the same answer on Osama in Pakistan … both say strike if Pak won’t
Bingo!
Richardson is a snooze, and thinks we can control the government of Pakistan.
Sorry ’bout that :)
uhh, on healthcare Obama is so clueless he stated the reasons vets must remain trapped in the VA’s crumbling system is that the vets have to use VA pharmacies – the same pharmacies that mail the meds wherever the vets live, and even have phones to take prescriptions.
Obama didn’t know what the hell he was talking about – he’s in too much of hurry to take power to learn what he could use it for.
I see an ambitious Chicago machine pol who skips tough fights wherever possible.
Never thought Armani could make a machine tool look so good.
Great teeth, though.
2 picks in a row for the burger.
Obama is a hawk. Now comes the Hill.
Richardson said we have the leverage to ‘ask’ Musharraf to step down. Interesting.
i think the nookular thing is a repub speech impediment
this is refreshing no matter what anyone of em says compared to the lst crowd.
doesn’t mean they won’t piss me off at some pt
I was loosely referring to the breakdown of Dems and Rethugs in the Senate.
Rob help me with the concept. I’m having lots of trouble IDing Progressives in the House or Senate.
Dodd, Feingold, Kennedy granted.
I suspect that Richardson has been the best candidate all along. Too bad.
Are we looking at the reasons why the Muslim world hates America so much?
Yeah I’m gonna have a tough night methinks.
Who would have thought 2008 would be the year that being a white man would kill ya in the Democratic line-up?
it’s in their jeans.
Clinton and Richardson both look really tired. I didn’t expect that from her.
The convo Raven and I are havin’ might be one reason LOL!
Hillary subtly pointing out that Osama bin Laden was struck at 10 years ago. Wonder whose administration that was? Hmmm…
this is wht i’ve thought for months. what is it keeps him from being ’seen’?
not enough espanol?
I went to our new, local VA mini-center. It took them exactly one day to lose my paperwork. Since I am insured through work I got to do a great meltdown in their office. “New building, same motherfucking VA”. The poor dudes who HAD to be there seemed to really enjoy the show.
Who did her makeup, that is like scary.
We like the Richardson view that diplomacy is needed.
Hillster boasting about Bill’s cruise missile diplomacy.
-G
You named them. :) I’d love to get Dodd into the leadership and Reid out of there. Any way we do that?
Hillary really was beat in Iowa, no matter how she tries to spin it. She got her ass kicked, by just a few votes. But they mattered all.
yes bill! the shah!
taking the rap for a dem (carter) booboo
takes guts
Can someone explain what Hillary has been saying … outside of her opening about how “we did that in the 90s” about the predator attacks, she just lost me and looked like she had lost herself in her attempt to talk about Pakistan
Defazio (House), Tom Allen (House)…
Wow. Did Clinton just say that Richardson should be using diplomacy in the middle east? Like she would put him in her admin for that purpose?
Fred Thompson’s mortician.
Keep up.
-G
Yea THEY are Fins fans, they are really pissed!
good on ya, Raven
Thompson was hoping that he’d get beaten worse in Iowa than he in fact did- so he could go home and have a martini.
One thing, to be fair, is that Obama apparently did not want to attack Iraq. But that’s it folks.
i’m no Hil fan, but she looks pretty good for just having done a what three hour standup question period at a local high school of pissed off people.
but yeah she looks tired.
kinda feel sorry
Bill and the 90s are all that is left in her quiver.
Clinton fatigue of a different sort.
Oh shit now he’s asking the bogus ticking time bomb q in a different form.
So the Repugs get asked tons of questions on domestic issues and Dems get asked terra terra terra …. WTF?
Gibson is turning in Jack Bauer before our eyes.
-G
I noticed that.
I beg to disagree with that premise… I agree with your later assertion of more progressives, tho…
Someone better call Charlie on his talking points.
into…
I guess the ABC crew is trying to help out our economy by getting us all to leave.
Just got here. They all look exhausted.
beg to differ, allen is a wimp
Haven’t those two been using the debates for this before?
I like Richardson, but, his presence here dilutes the debate for me.
Work behind the scene for your number 2 position.
Oh, well. Just my opinion.
Roger that.
they are.
What happens if George Bush & Dick Cheney are NOW planning a nuclear attack** on our country AFTER they are out of office? What will these candidates do? I hope they investigate and don’t shoot from the hip like the neocons do.
(**this is a hypothetical but really not far from the truth in my book)
Don’t be too concerned about Obama’s bipartisanship. It is a good strategy. Since Iowa, I have spent the last days trying to figure out what is Obama’s plan.
Obama is playing the long game for the big score, becoming President. Which is why his message of bipartisanship is important. To be elected President he needs all the Dems, a lot of Independents and more than a few Repubs.
Clinton & Edwards are still only playing the short game, just running for the Democratic nomination.
As a long term Edwards supporter, I have come to the conclusion that Obama is not as problematic as I thought. Obama is changing the way the campaign “game” is played. I know we are tired and want a champion something like a Dem version of DeLay.
But, do we really want that? In reality I want to keep some of my values. Basically I want principles and a Dem President based in today. I have almost come to the conclusion that Obama has the best game to achieve that goal. I’ll make up my mind over the 3 days.
now for the $64,000 question, is O’Really going to push himself up on to the stage and try to bully the candidates tonight? :)
nodding … I really have trouble with the idea that her experience includes her time as first lady … it just bugs me a lot
Obama is triangulating. And we do not like it.
Charlie’s asking all “scary” questions. Ok. Not gonna help the base make up its mind, but good, I suppose, in that it is a question of interest for independents and disaffected R’s.
I think Charlie’s doing us a favor here.
I have spoken with Obama at length about the Nunn-Lugar disarmament program in Russia. He is very knowledgable about the overall program, the details of how it works, and the importance of the issue.
Edwards supporter here, but I acknowledge Obama’s experience in this very important sphere.
Well, in all fairness he went after the Republicans on their perceived “weak points” too. Health care, economy, etc.
And I gave up an invite to a First Night party at my Federalist Society friends for this?
what the hell’s going on here?
this group got the hard trivial pursuit questions!
no fair!
did they know this was coming?
where;s the domestic stuff so audience can compare with repugs?????
With this catastrophic Senate we have now, you’ll excuse me if I take him at his word.
Lima Charlie! Ole Ben is doing so hot at home, eh? ;-)
It’s 90 minutes long.
do you? maybe yer right
So let me get this straight, all the remaining Dem candidates can pronounce the word “nu cle ar?!!”
He votes progressively. He saw through the Bush Regime’s lies when it came to Iraq and did not vote to authorize force against Iraq. Recently, however, he voted against Kucinich’s 2nd try to impeach Dick Cheney. That sucked.
Where was the doomsday question for the Republicans? They’re playing to the “Dems are weak on defense” thing here.
Is Obama-Edwards a possibility?
Watching the ‘debate’. Lahoma’s eyes have not glazed yet. This could have meaning.
5X5 CT. Hard to throw looking through the ear hole with one eye.
As If…?!!! Ya wouldn’t be caught dead at one… 8-P
Yes. They all know how to read too, other than “My Pet Goat.” Refreshing, isn’t it?
Your’re missing out on a great game of Bobbing for the Constitution.
-G
Yes, we’re now safe from nukular attack.
I say anything is possible!
Hillary just whipped it out and grabbed her balls!!
I’d like a Clinton/Edwards or Edwards/Clinton.
They KNEW the answer there, 40 megaton airburst over Mecca. . .
Still find Richardson the only one who can talk foreign policy … sigh
I don’t think you can judge Obama’s health plan because he is confused on how Rx’s are delivered via the vet system.
However, all candidates’ health plans don’t have an effective way to fund
1) Health care delivery to the poor
2) The glitches in the system for middle America when faced with serious illnesses.
You’re right on that point, but up close and personal much in the VAH has been systemically broken–they are often out of meds you need to use to treat an emergency, or equipment and their bureaucracy is turtle slow to respond, and that hasn’t changed in 25 years.
They aren’t well equipped to take care of their population prior to Iraq, certainly not after.
Much more by the way could have been done with the money pissed away and frankly lost in Iraq to prevent devastating head injuries in Iraq.
Not to mention some mainstream hospitals that have been caught doing fraudulent billing like one I know in a large city who flagrantly overbilled $26million using inpatient codes for outpatient proceedures. No one went to jail as individuals might, the hospital was simply forced to pay back the money.
Not to mention a lot of flagrant upcoding I’ve seen even on the part of University faculty who deliver care when they try to get reimbursed in some of their teaching settings. I’m talking CPTs meant for 45-60 minutes spent used for a 5 second head stuck in the door. I’ve seen it and it’s fraudulent.
We could handle Edwards/Obama.
REALLY???? NOT
Picture in picture rules
Hillary talking the neocon line that we can go after non-state terrorists by going after states. Ugh.
yeah, kay and when i met with him to warn him about bush’s stab at fast track, he said it wasn’t an issue. two weeks later bush is all over fast track. tried to talk wit him about nafta. nada.
letters from him full of rationalization cowardly at best why he won’t support impeachment. And his hubris. thinking he can unseat collins?? he doesn’t have the cajones to unseat her.
i used to like him
no longa
I think so and I read somewhere that it has been talked about.
No to Clinton. No to Obama.
Raven, CTuttle and I are multi-tasking.
Jeebus – the timebomb fetishists mus be repressed chumba fans.
[They’ll need their own diagnosis in DSM-V]
And they can speak in public without sounding like a kindergartener! Wow!! What a change!
I have found some bipartisanship, and it is not Obama.
http://www.hillaryclinton.com/…..ber%202007
I’d prefer that to.. but I’m wondering whether we’re really looking at an Obama-Edwards ticket. Their messages are quite reconciliable, in many respects, and the ticket (Christian, Democratic, vaguely populist) is probably unbeatable.
ABC running a scare segment on Social Security and then not letting the candidates respond to it? WTF?
New thread!
edwards/clinton?
hadn’t thought of that
Personally, I’m multitasking, listening to the debate, watching the Game, and communing with Ya’ll… 8-)
Kitty, who are you going to vote for then? Please don’t say Suzie-Q!! I’ll vomit. LOL
Hillary is getting ornery.
-G
It’s something I have struggled with for a long time. These are a really nice couple, involved in the schools and the community. Frankly I can’t figure it out.
vocabulary! diction! good posture! what more could an audience want!
Nah! Bill wants to live in the WH again, doncha know.
dunno
I understand what you mean. But, if we want less bipartisanship we need to put a lot more Dems in the Senate.
That’s one of my pet peeves, too. Unfortunately, new kew lar is also 3 syllables. Unfortunately, President Carter, the Nuclear engineer, also says “new kew lar” (sigh).
Maybe I’ll write it off to a Hawaiian bias: the Hawaiian language does not tolerate two consonants in a row, so invariably inserts vowels to separate consonants that are consecutive in English. So for example, “Britain” becomes “Beretania.” But I don’t know if Carter was ever in Hawaii long enough for that to make a difference.
Bob in HI
You might not have noticed, but several times after that bomber flew across America with nukes on board the Air Force or NorAD downed a whole host of national defense aircraft. I don’t know if there were mechanical problems or the fear that some rogue military folk were in cahoots with a Bushie plan to nuke somebody. Just a few days ago I heard that the Pacific coast defense system which would perhaps monitor sonar in coastal waters was shut down.
It’s as though they’re preparing for practice exercises which, like on 9/11, happen to be the same as a real attack on us.
Naturally the mainstream media mentioned it, but no more than that.
Kindly, don’t tell me what to worry about.
He’ll never get Repubs to do ‘bipartisanship’. They’d sooner be raped.
BTW, if he’s so into bipartisanship, then why did he discuss winning a working majority in the debate?
He just wants to be president. He’s not a leader and I do worry.
He wasn’t in the senate for the first vote, but according to somebody in the debate (Hillary I think) he somehow managed to vote for reauthorization bills which included mucho funding.
Hypocrisy, ignorance or just plain sloppy thinking.
“Hillster boasting about Bill’s cruise missile diplomacy.”
I think she got partway into that historical reference and then realized that it wasn’t going to help her any (it wasn’t diplomacy, and it didn’t work, and therefore was Bush-like), so then she tried changing the subject. One of her worst moments, IMHO.
Bob in HI
See my response @242. She blew it.
Bob in HI
“Hillary talking the neocon line that we can go after non-state terrorists by going after states. Ugh.”
This was also one of her worst moments. Terrorists flourish in failed states, which by definition can’t maintain security within their own borders, so it is useless to make war on them, because it will only mess up the infrastructure even more, making it all the more suitable for exploitation by terrorists.
So that’s two bad moments for her, both on FoPo, and both about terrorists (the other being her bringing up the failed attempt to blast OBL with missiles when Bill was Pres.) Is she really that clueless, or as others have suggested, was she just mentally fatigued?
Bob in HI
I tried following here in the comments and watching/listening at the same time, but it didn’t work for me. So now I’m trying to get caught up here, after having watched/listened.
Bob in HI
