(Pictured: George W. Bush, the personification of Karl Rove’s favorite virtues.)
In case you missed it, Rover was given a foot massage featured in this month’s Vanity Fair’s "Proust Interview."
Here are my favorite two responses:
What is the quality you most like in a man?
Quiet confidence.
And,
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Not being authentic.
Absolutely hilarious.

Zed!
Mr. Rove is operating behind the curtain. Make no mistake.
Up is down. Red is blue. Yada yada yada.
Good thing Rove doesn’t teach schoolchildren.
He must LOVE Pat Fitgerald, then.
is that an authentic sock in chimpies britches
Hey BT,
Do you get paid double-time for posting early morning then on Friday evening?
Karl Rove. Now there’s a role model for you. I still am unable to decide which is nastier. Cheney or Rove. This may perhaps may be one of those “undecideds” which I take to my grave.
“Not being authentic? ”
This pile of shit describes itself all the way down the line since its inception/conception.
Face it, the man is a master of irony.
you know that authentic pretzledent was not let anywhere near the authentic controls of that jet
He’s an authentic prick.
All packed and all batteries charged, eCAHN? Will you have access?
Ok. He’s an authentic pile o’ shit.
Mr. Rove spent many, many years in college. He just never graduated. And he became the C-minus Idiot in Charge’s professor and mentor.
For Karl Rove it’s always backwards day.
A one-degree of separation KR story. Some of you might recall that my (now 26-yera-old) son is a wingnut. He had an internship working for (warning to children and other sensitive types, read no farther) Robert Novak during the 04 elections. One lunch hour, while crossing the street in DC, he recognized Rove, standing next to him, waiting for the light to change. My son introduced himself. Upon learning that my son worked for Novak, the ensuing brief conversation was excessively friendly.
I wonder what that was related to. Not.
KKKRove is directly responsible for the Iowa Dem’s record setting turnout and the Huckster’s victory… Ain’t Karma a b*tch…? ;-)
Yep. Lodge I stay at has wireless. I see you in the threads.
psst sadlyyes, did you get to Kinkos yet? *g*
Yeah, right.
This is what KKarl looks like when he tells these whoppers.
I would have never thought that there could ever be anyone who could be more vile than Lee Atwater. And then along came Karl. What does this say about future possibilities?
KKKarl is the bitch.
So a little help here. I just googled “dum dum dum dum mormon” and got a message that it’s no longer available due to Viacom copyright. Does anyone have a viable link that I can save to show the folks in Utah, in case they haven’t seen it yet?
pretty good comedic effect from Bill in Portland Maine over at DKos:
no i need to pick a photo
Shinning Huck.
help please
Ah, “authentic.” As Karl demonstrated with Bush, if you can fake that, you’ve got it made.
LOL!!*aagguuggghhh*
707!!
Dee de dee dee de de de de dee.
BT! ‘Sup everyone?
I just received my subscription renewal from Vanity Fair. Mother Jones aroused my ire by placing a smug-faced Karl Rove on the cover with Barack Obama (Obama as a transformer action figure). I figure they must’ve paid Rove to use his likeness on the cover and I don’t want my money sent to Karl Rove so I cancelled my subscription. Likewise, I shall not renew my sub to Vanity Fair (and balanced). F*ck that sh*t.
I think I missed a couple of de de’s.
Deeeeliverance.
I respect the Republican Party’s decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation.
Camel Toe! . . . or what is it if it ight be a male thingy?
From the interview:
Fabulous? Patsy and Edina must be aghast.
Quiet confidence, eh. That explains why Dubya always felt it necessary to tell us what a strong leader and decider he is.
(I actually have this suspicion that he was instructed to convey that without actually saying it, but the subtlety escaped him)
Kiddo – I’m with you. I don’t like it when I can’t see what he’s doing, and he’s now completely unaccountable for what he does. It scares me.
See you made it back OK. Did you catch my comment on this morning’s employment report?
http://firedoglake.com/2008/01…..th-stalls/
Who is Karl working for these days? Someone’s paying his bills.
Speaking of Karl Rove, did anyone read this post today?
http://www.bbvforums.org/cgi-b…..71128.html
Oh boy.
Speaking of “confidence” (as in “confidence man”), I heard Huckabee on NPR on my way home, claiming that he is the first governor in Arkansas history to ever cut taxes.
I have no idea what the basis for that claim is, but my instant reaction was “that sounds like a Giuliani-grade bald-faced lie — I wonder if anyone will check him on it?”
Of course, since they played McCain’s soundbite about how “negative ads don’t work” without mentioning that he’s also been running negative ads, I’m not particularly optimistic.
I really like this one Of Edwards…
http://farm3.static.flickr.com…..5c22_m.jpg
Er, publications don’t have to pay public figures to print pictures of them. But whatever.
I don’t think he was supposed to announce that he was the decider either. He was just supposed to decide (based on what Rove and Cheney told him to decide). Not too bright, is he?
It’s those pesky RNC servers again…
His constant verbal tic that makes him constantly talk about what he’s doing instead of doing it is certainly one of his more bizarre charateristics.
Does Halliburton pay dividends?
Guys can get camel toe as well. lol
Just checked it out. Interesting (in a bad way).
Someone was saying something to me today about the “hidden inflation tax” on the middle and lower classes. I didn’t have time to unpack with them what they meant. Can you explain this?
I can’t believe Rove gets so much press. He sounds like any of my right-wing neighbors, as in, baffoonish.
Aside from Winger welfare via rw think tanks (didn’t Neewsweek also hire him?) and payments from liberal magazines who think he’s titillating, it remains a mystery. You’d think that Vanity Feint might have gotten the dirt on that. I guess they overlooked that question.
Edwards on KO.
Two possibilities come to mind:
1) He assumes everyone else is as thick as he is, and requires such explanations, or…
2) He’s like a little kid narrating everything he does, because he’s like the hero of his own comic book.
Edwards gonna be in KO tonight
Yep. LOL I’m reading a little further and there is some question if the votes were actually taken away from Ron Paul but were really taken from Guiliani. Actually, it doesn’t really matter. All that matters is HuckaBeeStupid got in and is a true reflection of the GOP….America’s Taliban!
What will it take to get Brittany and Anna Nicole out of the news? for good?
Both concepts seem correct and are not mutually exclusive.
Just guessing that it means that rising costs of oil (and I guess food, owing to ethanol fuel & secondary effects thereof) falls disproportionately on the middle & lower income classes because fuel & food represent a higher % of their budgets than for upper income types. Puzzled by the use of the word “hidden” though. Seems pretty unhidden to me.
Oh, no. Rove is the one who is scared.
He’s accountable. Appearances to the contrary, he’s definitely accountable — and he’s desperately afraid of it. If you’re standing next to Rove waiting for the light to change,* and you want to scare him, just whisper these few words into his ear when :
“So, I wonder what Waxman will do with Fitzgerald’s records.”
Rove knows, deep in his gut, that the jig is up. The only question is when it’s all going to come out: next month, next year, or fifty years from now. He came *this* close to being hauled into court alongside Scooter . . . and he’s still not quite off the hook.
Fitz’s “if any additional information comes to light” is keeping Rove awake at night.
*g*
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
_____
*eCHAN, you might want to pass this along to your son. Of course, he may not want to hear it . . .
An act of God.
What do want? White noise? /s They aren’t going to talk about high crimes and misdemeanors committed by Bushco.
yes to your question
I’m trusting dewey got the math right.
Dick Cheney is now a Billionaire!
Keep us updated… lost my cable but do have power.
The babies have hardly begun to grab the news. We have the rest of our lives to enjoy this, RevDeb. AHHHH.
that’s exactly what I was going to say, I don’t see any other way.
My son has recently moved to Austin, TX. Does Rove ever show up there?
nnnnnnnnnoooooooooooo
as Atrios says, just shoot me now.
i love my mom’s cousins, but listening to one of them explain to me that sending arar to be tortured was justified because: 1) just because he’s canadian that doesn’t mean he’s anglo and 2) we have to protect ourselves… and that causing the deaths of over a million iraqis is also justified on the basis of “we have to protect ourselves” (i don’t think they believed me that no iraqis were involved in 911)… well, it’s enough to make my head explode.
my strategy is to, in addition to strongly disagreeing and providing a counter argument, try to use the time as a learning experience. what is it that causes people i used to think of a genuinely conservative (there was lots of talk about the importance of moral compasses when a certain blue dress was in the news – now, moral compasses are off the radar) to go, imo, mad (as in out of touch with both reality and their previously held values)?
no answers yet… but i think it’s important to try to understand (just like i think it’s important to understand what motivates people to kill themselves by flying civilian planes into the world trade towers).
I see Obama is now billing himself as a voice for change. Is that right Senator. A change from what? Your pal and mentor Joe Lieberman? There are two Democrats in this house that want nothing to do with you, Mr. Obama.
blue, you have made my night
rover has just told us he hates himself and he hates bush for they are both polar oposites of the traits he admires
going to bed, laughing all the way
I see your resolve is weakening.
Not that we in our house disagree with you.
Keith asking why the media still leaving out Edwards even though he beat Hill. Edwards says he honestly doesn’t know.
In his own perverted way, Rove is authentic. He consistently the opposite of what he says and he know Americans are mostly not sophisticated enough to get it and instead take him at face value. He’s a consistent cynic in his bizarro world – day is night, black is white. In so doing he also undermines democracy and the ideals that the US was founded on but I’m sure in his addled conservative brain that doesn’t bother him in the least.
Keith bringing up the hallowed name of Dixville Notch. Their one claim to fame comes once every 4 years. Then they go back to shoveling snow.
As near as I can tell, my son’s wingnut tendencies are related to his (woefully wrongheaded) economics education. Long ago, when I thought he was more sensible, we had calm, sensible conversations about markets, when they work, when they don’t. Frankly, I think he chose the simpler route out of opposition to the “powerful parent.” I’ve seen this syndrome in other applications, but don’t know of any “cure” for it.
Milbank giving W credit for uniting the country—against repugs.
Even a clock is right 2x a day.
oooh. 40 minutes of glenn greenwald being interviewed by scott horton (the antiwar.com one) just showed up via podcast in my rss reader.
Are we prepared to say that Beelzebub loses sleep? Of course, I suppose, it could be argued that Beelzebub does not need sleep.
Actually they get two times in an election year. Monday at midnight is just Part I of the 2008 Dixville Notch saga
are you using newsfire? Since I upgraded to Leopard it has gone south—not working at all—and I have the latest update.
if it’s rebellion he may grow out of it – for many people that’s what their 20’s are for. fingers crossed.
my mom’s cousins though, are 69. :(
KO apologizing for the Gravel call last night (as Gravel had requested)
Uh-oh, Dana just pointed out that about 1,000 turned out at the hangar in NH for Obama and only a few hundred attended Hill’s event today…!
Keith apologizes to Gravel. Thought the sources were backed up that he was pulling out.
A nice substantive apology. And more air time than Gravel has had in quite a while.
Hey, it’s not about the benjamins for me. It’s about the love of the game.
i’m still on tiger – probably won’t upgrade for another few months (maybe when i get a replacement for my 6 year old imac, which can’t run leopard anyway). when it comes to operating systems i try to stay away from the leading edges.
…. actually, this one showed up in safari – i’ve been using it’s rss reader also (although there is a button for newsfire built in).
Thanks Selise.
They told me there’d be women.
Well that’s step one in the 12 step process… *g*
Aw, you left out my favorite answer.
His most overused word is “fabulous”
All we need to do is get Karl Rove to rap on stage or tell him to run to catch a football. That would finish him.
OT – but DownWithTyranny posted the following URL so that people can send Chris Dodd a message thanking him for his efforts during the campaign:
http://action.chrisdodd.com/t/…..p?key=1655
I promised Lahoma I would not attempt to degrade Democratic presidential candidates until after the Iowa thing was over. Thank gawd I can now revert to my usual behavior of being quite naughty in terms of critiquing those registered ‘Democrats’ which I perceive as not being “real” or “actual” Dems. During this brief moment of abstinence there were some rather intense moments. I’m off the wagon now, and I feel much better for it, and intend to go full bore now. ;0)
selise, are you enjoying your break from bringing us the congressional committee hearings, or are you suffering withdrawals? Tks again for all of your work!
Let it all hang out!
I’ll certainly second that… 8-)
You’ve been holding back?
done!
OMG, did you guys see that Dana Bash and John King are engaged?
KKKRove was scheduled on air this a.m. with Fargo’s Scott Hennen–he of rightwing radio ain’t waterboarding grand Mr. Chee-knee fame. I cannot confirm this because I had better things to do with my time…chipping dog poop out of the snow.
Rove is the undead.
Who are they? I only figured out who Britney and K-Fed are today.
enjoying the break. ;-)
i made a website (with blog, photo albums and video albums) for my nephews… and i’m planning a major upgrade for Hugh and his list (well, major for me anyway, since i’ve no fracking clue what i’m doing and just learning as i go along).
also studying up on fisa and senate procedures.
that, teacher, is how i’m spending my vacation. *g*
and next week the hearings list will start back up.
Done two.
Does that mean we need to come up with a collective nickname for them, like “Johna”, or “Bashing”?
that was going to be my question. so instead, i’ll ask: who’s k-fed?
Senator Obama. We in this house do not view you as a voice for change. Will you call for the prohibition of Joe Lieberman from caucusing with the Democrats. Will you call for new Democratic leaders in the Senate and the House. Will you firmly state you will start no more unprovoked wars? Will you rule out appointing any Republicans to positions in your administration? Will you tell us the truth about what you will do as president?
CNN political correspondents. Wouldn’t have recognized them by name, but the photos are recognizable.
no.
All that work for nothing.
Damn you. Damn you to hell.
Extra Credit A+++!
EJ Dionne talking about how the repigs are eating their own livers over Huck (to repeat Jane’s mahvelous phrase from last night).
Ditto!
Well… I suppose that’s something you will have to judge. ;0)
Thanks! I have sent him a message of support and requested tyo let me know the FISA bill comes again so all of us can help support him in his endevor to stop any kind of immunity for the Telco’s.
The only curtain he is operating behind is the one in the bckroom at a leather bondage room

I am sooooo loving the R coalition crackup. Must stock up on more popcorn. Of course, I kept wondering why it didn’t happen sooner, but better late than never.
So, Timmeh and Brian Williams are moderating a Dem debate in Vegas on Jan. 15th…
wow! I guess imitation is sincere flattery
The Nation is advertising on KO!
K-Fed is Kevin Federline (sp?) and he is Britney Spears’ ex-husband.

Sen. Obama. Would you care to be candid about your feelings on pulling impeachment “off the table”? Do you plan to keep and expand military bases in Iraq? Do you plan to bring American troops home from Iraq. And if so when exactly? What are your ideas on bombing Iran? What are your plans for a comprehensive Middle East peace plan? Do you have a plan? What about health care? What about the economy? What about education? What about NAFTA, CAFTA and the WTO. What about ‘right to work’? What about unions? What about the NLRB? What about outsourcing? What about immigration? And many other ‘what abouts’?
I wonder what foreign substance Britney ingested this time that put her in the hospital last nite…?
Karl needs a trip to the irony board
oh. thank you…. i think. *g*
I noticed that on the CBC news today too. You wouldn’t know edwards existed.
Do The Math.
He didn’t phrase it that way, I did. He talked more conceptually. None the less, the repigs are so screwed.
Hence his brilliant *new* nickname, “Fed-Ex”.
No, I only *wish* I could take credit for it.

Fortunately, many Iowans knew he did… ;-)
with scorch
where’s my handkerchief?
Nah! bring him out behind the shed and make him pick out the switch to be used on his bare ass!
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Huckabee is the monster that Rove and the GOP have cultivated for the past three decades. And he is not going to be stuffed ‘back in the bottle”. The Republicans are now controlled by the wing-nuts. Not the other way ’round. The GOP is stuck with the Pat Robertson’s of this nation.

Hi jayt,
Find that one here: http://www.scientomogy.com/sou…..tology.php
Listening to it on another window. Is that the one that has the dum dum dum dum song in it?
Yeah, give it a minute or two. The edited one has been removed from the net.
Thank you sooo much. Song just came on. ((((LouCostello)))
The hidden part is they lie about the actual amount of inflation and manipulate the prices of the goods in the inflation basket – this is compounded by not publishing the amount of money printed anymore (and you can bet they are printing a shitload by looking at how weak the dollar is).
The last whammy is that we have seen for decades wages dont go up much and are first to go down in a dowbturn and last to go up in a rebound (not at all this time). Also impacting is that poor and middle class have little diversification (mostly expenses and some cash savings).
Be authentic, whether you mean it or now. [Flanders and Swan]
Oops! That’s “Be authentic whether you mean it or not.”
Hermits of the world unite.
OT, I know, but seems to fit in your meme of memoriable oxymorons.
Could somebody ask what Rove’s budget is? Is it too much to expect working journalists (you know, at the networks and the big newspapers who have degrees in journalism) to do their jobs and ask questions or connect the dots? Do any of them know how to use the internets? Or does Karl pay them too? I think we are all sick to death of the games and the tricks. Too clever for their own good comes to mind.
Yep. I would say that. Law of the unintended outcome in spades.
I think Rove was being sincere about authenticity. As George Lakoff points out, people perceive truth through authenticity and trust. The way people perceive ”truth” as told by say, a politician, these 3 elements come into play:
1) Does the politician believe what he/she is saying?
2) Is the politician trying to deceive me in some way that harms me and/or helps him/her?
3) Is it true (what the politician is saying)?
Lakoff states that authenticity and trust is established through numbers 1 and 2 while number 3 is least important.
George W. Bush came across as authentic (initially) because people trusted that Bush believed what he was saying. Over time, more and more Americans figured out what he was really up to (minus 25% of our population who still trust him).
So for Rove, if you are a good liar who comes across with authenticity and whose deception is not easily detected, he’ll like you.
The scary part here is people will believe a person who is authentically self-deluded. How do we address this problem? Seems we need to be hyper-vigilant in combatting their false framing with powerful, truthful alternative framing.
