John McCain gives a conference call. Redstate:
The Senator sounds a bit tired, but he’s hitting the right notes.
He was just pushed on immigration and gave as good an answer as possible. He emphasized border security, enforcement first, and opposition amnesty.
The Senator is right now saying that Lieberman should "play a role" in national security issues. That sounds like a possible SecDef to me.
Well aside from the fact that he’ll tear the Republican party apart with a well-deserved class war, I’d say that’s yet another reason to cheer for Huckabee.

Jane!
McCain/Lieberman Iraq/3008!
-G
Under McCain or Obama?
Lieberman as Secretary of Defense?
Maybe as McCain’s VP…*g*
I can see McCain putting this out there. On a McCain-Lieberman ticket – not so much. Even the Rethugs saw what a disaster he was on the Gore ticket – basically a no show and worse. I bet with Hucky pulling as he is, that if McCain squeeks by it will be Hucky.
Oh ick, LIEberman as SecDef. Time to have lunch & pack for my trip. (For the first time ever, I remembered to plug in the batteries for my ski boot warmers the day before flying out to UTAH. A personal best.)
ramalamobamalamadingdong!
Foreign policy for HoJoe: Smiley Diner Joe likes small animals and babies unless they’re Iranian?
McCain/Lieberman Iraq/3008!
“We’ll have the troops home by 4008!”
Have a great time! Don’t forget your digital camera…
Lieberman and McCain? There goes my appetite.
I guess I’ll just put off my mid-morning snack for a while.
Thanks for the Iowa coverage Jane! hope there’s some poodle pile time before NH :)
LOL – well, actually very scary.
The reason McCain has Lieber up there in NH is to push the cross-party, broad appeal idea for McCain (which is also what Bama and Hucky seem to have). Alas, it also makes the two look VERY old – like a pair of orange Sharpees (sp).
It’s in the bag. Both batteries charged. I’m not leaving until tomorrow morning, so you still have me to kick around today.
Jeepers, Hojo. Where did the love for Obama go?
joem make more sense as speedbump in parkin’ lot.
anyone else having trubble gettin bumped off the toobz this a.m.???
Hojo really IS ready-for-gooper-prime-time. Why didn’t he run for the GOP ticket in Iowa?
Joe said he would support anyone who asked for his support. Seems as if for all the Dem candidates they all wanted to get as far away from him as possible.
Ummm, if Obama hasn’t figured HoJoe out, the answer is: YES.
Yes. And can’t get over to Marcy’s shop…
I have thought for a long time (especially when the R establishment was looking for someone other than McCain each week), that the Unity08 ticket would be McCain/Lieberman. I don’t think Lieberman would actually run as an R VP choice but I can definitely see him as a SecDef in a McCain admin. Or DHS.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad weighs in:
“Holy — how you say — holy shit! This war-loving Lieberman as Secretary of Defense! And they have the nuclear bomb! Let us pray to Allah.”
Hi Jane.
Happy New Year! Hope you are doing well. ;->
I wonder if Obama has the good sense to stay away from Joe.
OT – any of you know who Air America will replace the Young Turks with. Also, is there ANY move afoot to replace the blabbering idiot Lionel with someone half way decent?
Holy Joe!?
He has much military service as Rummy did. Look what that got us.
Speaking of the GOP coming apart in a class war.
Vodkapundit
Go Huck!
Thanks Loo Hoo. *reaches for new box of foil*
Leavermnn as SecDef? Nah. Why would he want to trade the perks of the Senate for that thankless gig?
Yeah he “should play a role”, and so should his little doggie. Apparently the doggie is already dressed for the show. Liebemschmaltz is waiting for his cammo suit.
Nope. According to hairbrain founder, Sam Waterston, that ticket will be Bloomberg-Hagel. He also said they might draft Bloomberg.
I’ll second your thoughts on Lionel. He’s so awful that I won’t listen to AA when he’s on. I’d nominate Sam Seder to replace Lionel in a NY minute.
As far as the YT’s go, they’re on so early here in NM that I don’t hear them unless I’ve got to drive somewhere for an early morning meeting. So I guess I don’t care.
BC
I agree with you completely, but I also bet McCain may put it out there as a possibility (a two-fer: neocon votes and middle roaders who want to think McCain will bring “peace” between the parties).
Frank Burns on “Mash”
This guy has to take some kind of prize for finding a comparison between Huckabee and Carter.
Big Ego.
Iowa picked Clinton in 1996. Oh wait, maybe that was bad as well…
dead on. fall down laughing with the image.
I wuz thinkin’ of mr potatohead, the vodka & all, fermented just a tad too long?
Short Ride Joe as SecDef? The guy with round heels for war profiteers — erm, I mean defense contractors? Oh, yeah, oversight’s really gonna be king under his watch. Heh!
Saturday’s debate will be Obama, Edwards, Clinton and Richardson. Hope ABC will be asking some defining questions.
while yer laughing, fgs keep him away from the tanks!
Okay, where do I have to go to find out what’s going on with this; obviously, I haven’t been paying enough attention.
He could have improved on his handle by going with “LSDPundit.”
Has anyone seen Steve AR around?
Potentially either. Lieberman stands to win something almost regardless of how it goes.
Ugh.
Lieberman would just do WONDERS for our image in the Middle East.
OT but not quite:
Walter Shapiro in Salon today:
Link: http://www.salon.com/news/feat…..iowa_dems/
Obama’s recent line makes joke at expense of Hully. “Refering to his new status as a Democratic front-runner, he said: “This feels good. Its just like I imagined it when I was talking with my Kindergarden teacher.” (David Kurtz via TPM).
so huck is trying to steal liarmans endosement from mitt
leh slap in the face, huck is really giving it to romney every chance he can get
Richardson shoulda dropped out as well…He’ll just dilute the debate. IMHO, the guy seems to be on quaaludes…
I honestly don’t know. The YTs have announced it on their show that they will be going off air on Jan. 16. Don’t know why, but XM replaces Tom Hartmann’s show each day with Ed Schulze. I think Tom is too liberal for XM. My fear is that Air America will further dumb down (push rightward) in the morning.
I’d like to see Lieberman get a permananent cabinet position. somewhere between the brooms and the vacuum cleaner.
Qalludes – LOL!
in Dubai -Blackwater’s headquarters!
And Shapiro seems to have written off Edwards…sadly, as most of MSM has already started to do:
(Same link as my 48.)
OH! lsd, not lds. no xprt here either way. pure as the driven snow ;->
*glug glug glug*
Loo Hoo….my bet is YES,
According to my brother who is around all this Obama too many progressives that are advising him not too.
Does Lieberman have any military experience? Isn’t that kind of a prerequisite for SecDef?
Hell, the whole planet would be an ash-heap within a year.
He is under qualified for those positions!
No and No.
dust rag?
I think Jane raises the issue of Lieberman to let us vent. McCain choosing Lieberman for anything would be just another tired, hackneyed gesture to bolster his ludicrous reputation as a “maverick”.
Agree.
secdef lieberman?? god help us! his 1st call will be to nuke iran…oh thats already on the table before bushco leaves….
Is HoJo smiling so hard in that picture because he’s about to waterboard that poor little mutt?
kitty pooper-scooper?
getting close…

VeryOldMother thinks John McCain is FAR too old and that he is sick…
VOM is pretty sharp about these things…
Hell no. Cheney was Sec of Defense, among other things…
BINGO……..
except make sure he doesn’t get near the beautiful kitties
Rummy didn’t serve neither.
I thought Lieberman was scheduled to play Emporer Palpatine in the next Star Wars sequel?
-G
Lieberman’s perpetual “giggling” grin looks to me like those religious nut jobs (or even socio-pathic killers) who are so absorbed in their own rightness that they are clueless about the world. Ueber-Neoconness can do it to you too!
Rummy DID serve.
-G
Well, VeryOldMother raised a very sharp cookie as a daughter. I would listen to pretty much anything she says.
From Wiki:
“Rumsfeld served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957 as a naval aviator and flight instructor.”
-G
OT but…how do we go about engineering Dodd into Senate Majority Leader now that he has dropped out of the Prez race? We MUST oust Reid and do it at the soonest opportunity to show the Dem “leadership” that we mean business.
Reid MUST go and Dodd should take his place.
OC, It does seem like McCain is ill. And old. Not that 72 is old for everyone, but for John it is.
I’m ashamed I dont trust a “no chin”
Meanwhile, Mitt reaches for his mitts:
Yeah: Giuliani also used the innings metaphor for his FL strategy. And HuckeePucky is counting on Joe-Lie’s friend McCain to knock this Mormon out of the race in NH, so that HuckeePucky can kick McCain’s ass in SC.

beautiful kitties at our house growl when people like joem show up at de door. goooood kitties. ;->
Totally OT, but some good news out of the Justice Department:
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.co…..e_tha.html
Mukasey taps Fitzgerald for AG advisory post
Andrew Zajac
More evidence that new Attorney General Michael Mukasey is running a more transparent and inclusive shop than his predecessors John Ashcroft and, especially, Alberto Gonzales:
Mukasey announced today that he’s appointing Chicago federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald to the Attorney General’s advisory committee of U.S. attorneys.
Fitzgerald was on the committee from 2001 until 2005, but his appointment to it preceded his service as special prosecutor in the Valerie Plame CIA leak investigation.
Fitzgerald’s probing in that case led to the perjury conviction of Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff Scooter Libby and earned the prosecutor the lasting enmity of the White House.
Gonzales, a former White House counsel, who as attorney general was sharply criticized for lack of independence from President Bush, did not re-appoint Fitzgerald to the advisory panel, which counsels the attorney general on law enforcement issues.
Mukasey still has a sticky call to make connected to the Plame case. He has to decide whether to allow Congress to have transcripts of investigators’ interviews with Bush, Cheney and former White House senior advisor Karl Rove.
Fitzgerald’s appointment comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement by Mukasey that the Justice Department will open a criminal investigation — to be headed by a career prosecutor from outside Main Justice — into the CIA’s destruction of videotaped interrogations of terrorism suspects.
No telling how that inquiry will shake out, but Muakasey’s decision to green light it contrasts with Gonzales’ acquiescence in a White House decision to block security clearances for DOJ ethics officials seeking to investigate the National Security Agency’s warrantless domestic wiretapping program.
Yay, Fitz!
Second!!
LOL – or is it rippling chins? Isn’t a solid chin supposed to be a sign of uprightness, solidness and character in days of old?
OT
LA Times
I could see him as National Security Adviser or even Sec’y of State. Oh, wait, wouldn’t that mean that Israel is pretty much in charge of much of our foreign policy and national security issues? Duh!
OT but with Hilly’s deep slide, likely to carry over into NH, this also is looking increasingly bad for Shaheen for Senate in NH. Thanks Rahm for pressing for a blue dog as opposed to someone who is dynamic and more appealing to younger voters.
Yahoo!!! Heard about the investigation yestidie, in our local newspaper, but heard nothin’ on the telly, since they were too bizzy covering the horserace in IA & bull-fighter-goring in {???}.
Now Fitz!
FITZ FITZ FITZ!!!
Good ol’ Joe has entree into either a Obama or McCain adminisration.
I’m sure someone in the blogosphere has enough access to Obama to pin him down with “Would you appoint Joe to a cabinet position?”
It’d be better to know now, or would we rather have the pixie dust?
Maybe they could make HoJo the ambassador to Israel. It’d keep him out of our hair and he might like it there. I’d surely be willing to pay my part to move him permanently to Israel, lok, stock and barrel.
what really scares me is the fact that i have not one pair of prescription shades to my name, andi’d have to suffer through the dental glare of Romney/Obama without any. be like having to stare at the exploding death star for months on end.
Obama and Huckabee did well in the only state they could do well in.
We can kiss both dem pos goodbye, now or later … whatever.
Ron Paul hit double digits, as expected.
Further to my 82:
Yep: Huckee has a plan:
(Same link as my 82.)
Ahhhh…the one-trick-pony sanguinity of Benito The Bootie Bandit:
From the Salon.com War Room.
LOL.
As someone else noted earlier, no way is Lieberlier going to give up his Senate position with all of its perks and money (in part through his big pharma lobbying wife) for a position in any administration.
I thought Rummy was a former pilot!
Heh. Huckabee did well in the only early primary state he could do well in. Obama, though he ain’t my guy, can do well in any of the states. Ron Paul…sheesh. Are you one of those that say that yesterday was a BIG day, a GREAT day for McCain because he got 14%? That MUST be the case since Paul got a mere 10% compared to McCain’s “blockbuster” (according to the pundit press that constantly fellates McCain) support.
Just ask Marion Jones:
(Same link as 82.)
I guess he was as someone above dug up a wiki reference.
Wow, SharonRB. Wow.
Yeah. That was me. I just don’t see it. All that power/perks stuff, give that up for the short but contentious free fire zone of SecDef? Nah.
Here’s wiki on Rumsfeld’s service:
Ah, you see, Edwards also has a plan:
Linky: http://www.nytimes.com/aponlin…..shire.html
From Townhall.com:blog – Ed Rollins shoots his mouth off
Which is, in fact, quite true. Obama IS too tepid and conciliatory. Mushy is another term one could use.
so israel would get a serious boost in weapons of all kinds, nukular, chemical, biological, and they would be encouraged to use them daily to clean up the area for tourists.
Good on you! Sorry didn’t recall.
Actually, I’m looking at the ABC Republican debate in NH with McCain, Romney, Paul, Giuliana, and Thompson.
And the last two may not be around much longer.
This time next year, Lieberman (R-CT) will be looking forward to his new role as…um…well…former chairman of the Homeland Security Committee?
Hi Loo Hoo..I’m visiting family in Steny’s district..I am freezing my ass off outside to get an internet conection.
That depends on whether we are able to elect enough NEW Dems to the Senate so that Lieberlier’s vote is irrelevant.
Rollins is Rove-Lite, learned all his tricks from What’s-his-face, the one who apologized before he died. I need some help here.
Get Dodd in as Majority Leader AND get a few more Dems into the Senate and Lieberman becomes totally irrelevant.
Just in time for Kennedy’s e-mail:
Lee Atwater
Thanks…I had it at the tip of my tongue…*g*
Praeder and twck: Right on. Alas, as implied in Kennedy’s response, it is unlikely that there will be a leadership change in either the House or the Senate until after the Presidential election – hence Kennedy’s call for us to continue to be active on the web. But, I do think the continuing work through ActBlue etc will be key both now, and in the upcoming election.
And Mama, like Edwards, also has a plan for Obama:
Hard days ahead for the lanky senator from IL.
Linky: http://www.nytimes.com/aponlin…..lysis.html
Obama’s record is clear: an impressive slew of votes, “present”, or being absent.
The frontrunner on both sides at this point will face major attention. I am not sure that Bama is in any worse shape than Edwards on this score, or would handle it less well. Alas, Hilly’s attempts at attack before backfired, and they can easily go to close to the line wherein many would consider it race bating, or at lease insensitivity. In that sense he sits pretty – and with the hard drugs, Moslem schooling, Kindergarden aspirations – largely behind him, it is interesting to think about what new will come up.
Joe and Jane middle class probably could care less.
Anyone noticed Hillary’s picture on the Drudge Report?
Out of stinck.
OT-The markets down 185. So far.
interestingly, VeryOldMother think Senator Clinton may well be the best of the bunch… she thinks Obama to be too slippery, Edwards make her uncomfortable for unknown reasons (though she’s starting to warm up to him as he gets more feisty)… Huckabee makes her laugh though she recognizes the snake oil salesman in him… Romney leaves her cold…
she just wants someone smart and hardworking in office (she’s not too concerned with political nuance) and this minute, Clinton has her eye.
Ninty years on the planet will give you some perspective.
We’ll see. You never know. The Hill machine can be pretty ruthless. She’s going for broke now. What does she have to lose at this point? If she doesn’t go for broke, she’ll lose. If she goes for broke, she might lose. Which one would you choose?
Ain’t that the truth…
OT but did anyone notice that Hojo’s dog has better body armor than most of our troops? What a jerk.
And I really hate that the media is still choosing to ignore Edwards. OTOH, perhaps this election cycle the voters have come to realize how FOS the media is and make up their own mind.
Definitely the latter. And, for Bill and Hill there are MAJOR financial ramifications of being in the White House again and they seem focused on money these days as also is Chelsea.
Lee Atwater. Rollins is definitely a piece of work.
Yeah, a “role” on Nightmare on Elm Street 10.
No -McCain is a military guy and would never give a weenie like Joe that position. Face it, Joe is a follower -well, more like a tick actually. So where would a tick do the best job for a bull headed my way or the high way kind of guy.
And don’t forget Joe is too much of a Lefty on the social issues to appeal to most Republican voters.
Joe’s ass has been on the White House Lawn more than Barney. McCain will likewise keep Joe on a tight leash just enough to draw in a few extra votes but far enough away to be completely controlled by McCain.
Probable Homeland Security -the keepers of the duct tape.
But who cares -this anti-war country will never pick those two hardcore warmongers with a f*** dipolomacy attitude.
Obama and Huckabee will work in tandem fwith the majority of the voters to turn them both into the pariahs they really are..
what is FOS? I use FOSS [Free Open Source Software]
How about pliant and ingratiating?
The past few posts have been great by pulling angry conservative bloggers quotes on how much they loathe Huckabee.
What I find funny, is if Romney was on top, or McCain, or Paul, or Guiliani, or Thomspon, conservative bloggers everywhere would attack them just as hard. If not for Huckabee’s dumb factor, it would be for something else.
As opposed to the cool progressive bloggers. Some gripes, but damn does it feel good to have so many smart, level-headed people running for office.
OT -Zogby has Hilly and McCain leading in NH (TPM) but as in Iowa, they tend to have Hilly high (the Rethugs want her to be the candidate) then switched dramatically to poll closer to the others at the very end.
If she does, she better win. Don’t wanna see her beat up on Obamna so bad and lose and have Obama limping into the general. And no, I didn’t forget Edwards,. Hope while those two are beating up on each other he emerges as the real agent of change and hope.
The Repugs are f*cked at this point. The smart ones know that. We should just let them self-destruct. If Edwards is out the race, the Dem choice will become complicated as well. Just saying… Edwards is the only Dem candidate who can comfortably whup the Repug ass. And the smart ones know that too.
the funny thing about rollins was his pitiful carping about “it was a private conversation between me and my wife.” now that was a steaming pile of B.S. typical high-horse republorhetoric if there ever was one!
well Ed, try having dinner in your hotel room next time if you want your words to be private (not that i believe for a nanosecond that he did want them to be private). look at it this way Ed, at least your phone wasn’t tapped or your office burgled.
I completely agree with your sentiments.
If their traditional campaign social issues don’t catch on, the Republics are going to have to repudiate Bush to have any chance. That should be extremely entertaining.
What do you think of this? Guiliani, in explaining why he isn’t worried about losing in Iowa, just HAD to bring Sept 11 into his statement. Could he be working on a Mr Subliminal trick to get him into the White House? Throw the random, ’subliminal’ “9/11″ or “Sept 11″ into all his statements under his breath to try to make the magic that was Kevin Nealin’s Mr Subliminal work for him?
I don’t know but that COULD work on Rethuglicans. They really are that dense and obtuse.
OT Nancey Greggs at DU has a bit of humor for all to get a good chuckle!!
http://journals.democraticunde…..Greggs/326
fun reading.
In any event and whatever happens, things will definitely get interesting in the next several months. Bring out the popcorn… I’m not sure whether the hard work is behind–or ahead–of us. The die is cast, and we seem to have no choice but to ride it to the end. Sorry to mix metaphors…
That Liberman+doggie picture that seems to be FDL’s stock Lieberman thread-top photo really freaks me out. All I can think when I see it is “WTF is he going to do that poor defenseless doggie?”
OT, but I have to vent about the MSM. On NPR’s “Day to Day” their political correspondent Ron Elving, once again says that the only story is between “Can’t We All Just Get Along” Obama and Hillary. Not one word in his analysis on Edwards. Celebrity culture is now being mirrored on how Presidents are selected. Both Hillary and Obama are celebrities, stars, therefore they are the only ones worth discussing. Is this a great system or what? I would encourage anyone that wants Beltway pundits to become irrelavent to contribute to the campaign of John Edwards. When image trumps substance then the country is done a disservice.
;-) Full o zhit!
McCain? President? Lieberman? SecDef? *laughs a bit then vomits*
D’oh! Now that you said it, that was _really_ obvious!
Thanks.
I think it’s a great idea. In fact Jomentum should resign right now and start to prepare for his new job.
Bet Obama wishes he HAD kept his promise to campaign for Ned Lamont now, as do the rest of the Democratic field who did not consier Lamont a “viable candidate”
Given the beltway support for both Lieberman and McCain this could get scary.
McCain is the Manchurian candidate. Was that prison in Hanoi or Haifa?
Yah beat me to it! But I’m not jelaous!
Obama natch and here’s why………. And just who is National Amusements Inc?
Bad, bad news is who!
And let me say I’m really, really thrilled that a mob of low-info younger folks turned out to vote for Senator ‘Change’. We are gonna all get a bit older before we see any thanks to them.
Bend over kids….’cause here it comes!
Right. Joe can manage the first eight years of McCain’s “100 years in Iraq”.
Why aren’t Obama and Hillary, et. al., picking up on this big booboo by McCain?
