So we going toward campaign finance - or are things going to be “fixed” to make sure the big money candidates have a better chance next time around. (One good thing about Huck, and Edwards getting ahead of Clinton). Great points by all I am glad I re-read the thread after being off-topic in the original since I was sucked into all the coverage and the ads flooded into NH. This is the kind of post I love, great work.

Viva la Insiders!

“Obama has no chance of doing that. The Republicans are licking their lips in anticipation.”

I presume then that you’re backing Clinton? She is the most “insider” candidate by far, and if she gives Ruturd Murdoch and Old Man Redstone what they want, they’ll back off. Edwards most certainly isn’t your candidate since he’s being so combative with BigBiz on the campaign trail.

I like the current debate going on between Edwards and Obama, where they agree on what needs to happen but differ on how to get there. Obama wants to sit at their table and negotiate while Edwards is saying you can’t do that. This is a healthy debate and I hope Edwards is influencing Obama somewhat. Man, they’d make an amazing Presidential ticket.

Don’t understand the issue with Redstone’s National Amusements. Yes, Obama has received a lot from BigMoney as has Edwards, but why do many in the Netroots ignore the fact that Obama’s shattering records for individual donors? The BigMoney donations are a tiny sliver of the total amount he’s raised from people who have never been involved in politics. Iowa numbers show this so far.

I’ve been able to accomplish manys things in my life by ignoring people who told me, “that’s just not how it’s done,” and “you can’t do it like that.” The argument that we need someone who has hung around DeeCee enough to know the Game doesn’t work for me. In fact, for many years I’ve felt the exact opposite, and I have two choices this year - Edwards and Obama.

The fact that both these guys are self-made successes is very appealing, and despite much of the “evidence” that I’ve seen around the netroots saying Obama is a republican operative, when I look at his entire adult life in and out of politics, I conclude he really is quite a Liberal deep down. Bill Clinton was self-made as well, but he did it by being a career politician and learning the tricks, and look what a disaster he was for Liberalism. I tend to attract more to Edwards’ more revolutionary position, but I could get behind Obama as well. Considering what Obama has been able to accomplish, and with the huge societal hurdles he has had to overcome, I’m willing to defer judgment to him if he can make a good case and show positive results from his approaches.

After all, I’m wrong sometimes. Are you?

When Bobo said “the leadership class in this country have let the people down” it meant that his inside the beltway analyisis (indeed all the MSM analysis focussing on Washington politics) no longer means anything of value to determining the politics of this country. Bobo Brooks has spent a lifetime currying favor with those elites…and now they, and by extension, himself..have no relevance. Poor Baby!

All his predictions about what was supposed to happen in Iowa, based upon his deep understanding of how we were responding, are worthless. He knows that he’s utterly out of touch with what is happening in America. We might as well be the Pakistani “street” for all he’s concerned.

Maybe he’ll be replaced by a real Chimp that will select election results by trying to find treats under cups.

Here’s little something to add to Senator ‘Change’s’ shining resume.

Bonus points if you know what National Amusements Inc. is without teh Google.

As to one of your most salient points, the most effective instigators of real structural change directed from the White House, except for Lincoln, are FDR and LBJ. Consummate insiders they knew how to get things done.

Obama has no chance of doing that. The Republicans are licking their lips in anticipation.

i’m one of those that thinks that this election is different and this primary cycle is different. the way that so many potential candidates started so early is an important factor. it may be that the Iowa caucuses have determined the candidates because of the early start of the potential candidates.
i don’t think that there is any point in Hillary and Edwards trying to slow Obama down. both Hill and John were seriously hurt this week. if they start doing something different now it will only cause more loss of momentum for them. Romney is really over. St. John may do well in New Hampshire but South Carolina will not be kind. S.C. is taylor made for Huckabee. he could run the tables on the South and that will be a lot of delegates. if he comes out of Super Tuesday with momentum McCain and Giuliani can forget about it.
the energy around Obama is phenominal. there will be some detours on the road to Denver but he’ll get there without being winded. i think that the cynics that think America will not elect a black man are dead wrong.
i hope he already has good Secret service protection.
