It’s entirely possible that the R crossover is what it appears at face value — they couldn’t take any of the R candidates — certainly not Huck — and they mostly couldn’t take Hil ‘cuz of Bill, so that left Obama and Edwards. But because of my fundamentally suspicious nature, I would not necessarily rule out some Roving having been at work… maybe they have some dirt on Obama and they’re waiting to spring it until after the convention, when it’s too late to fix.

It just makes me very very nervous these days when things seem too good/neat to be true.

I understand the guilt that make all of us nervous when things seem too easy or good, but

I want to hear when anyone mentions phrases like “Rove or Gillespies wet dream” instead of the warning that they will “cream the Dems with attacks” what precisely the talking points of attack will be. And by the way, although he doesn’t have the money, and he communicates to evangelicals “from the heart” and Huckaby knows how to play local media, Huckaby didn’t havea clue what an NIE is. There is no comparison between what Edwards, Obama or the Hill know about government and foreign policy and what Huckabee knows.

Romney has lied and flipped so many times he’ll be a dream to attack.

McCain won’t be there.

I’m gonna say this all day if I get to a thread. Bring it to me. Bring me what you think Rove or Gillespie or any of their operatives that send out the Mary Matlinesque emails with marching orders are going to use to attack Obama.

I may not be bright, but I now this. There are a gamut of attack points to use against Romney, Bush, certainly Huckabee and LOL Rudy 912, the meanest, most vindictive prick in politics who paralleled Bush’s stupidity in making hundreds of people vulnerable to death on 911 alone.

If someone comes into an ER with an emergent situation, I don’t think any one of us would pull up a chair and sit down and read a fucking children’s book to some kid in the waiting room. That is precisely what George Fuckhead Bush did when he was told that thousands of people were burning alive. He sat down and read “The Little Goat” and his FAA and Stratetic Air Command were equally stupid and unprepared. Their drills meant not a fucking thing. Jim Bamford’s book details how bad they were, and most Americans don’t have a clue.

I would attack the “we’ll keep you safe” shit with relish. And that’s just for openers. With more time I could quickly amass a list of attack points for any candidate, Bush, and especially that chickenshit Rove who is in contempt of a contemptable gutless Congress who haven’t moved his contempt citation to the floor because they’re gutless and stupid.

What Rove and Gillespie would pay to do is to fuck with the current spineless Democratic Congress–suckers like Jello Jay, Feinstein, Leahy, and all of Senate Judiciary but Kennedy and Feingold. And sure Whitehouse is very bright and a former US Attorney, but he’s been voting with Bush and Addington lately.

It’s probably too late for Rs to crossover in NH, but there’s probably time for a massive crossover for SuperTuesday.

Obama’s popularity with caucus-going independents would indicate that he’d be the harder candidate to beat. But you could be right about Rove (or whoever) having some dirt that could be used.

Hi Pete: Thanks. Very interesting numbers. But the number that is most significant in terms of predicting how the rest of the primaries are going to go is mentioned above:

“He edged her out among Democrats 32/31 …”

That’s basically a tie. It could be, of course, that the Democrats who attended the Democratic Caucus in Iowa are not typical of Democrats nationwide. (And I hope that’s the case, since I’d prefer Edwards. Sigh.)

They crossed over and were required to register Democratic and did so for a significant reason, and that is to vote for Obama.

Further, look at the stats, because including and because of those Independents and Republicans, the participants in the Democratic caucus outnumbered Republicans more than 2:1.

In Iowa last night per the rules:

Republicans could write their name on a slip and book outta Dodge.

Democrats had to stay for two to four hours and participate in a meeting.

There are a lot of stats, granted this is only Iowa and the first caucus with many caucuses and primaries to go, but there are a lot of stats that spell a word that is not a stat:

Momentum

The people who registered Democratic which is a requirement to vote in the Democratic Iowa caucus clearly favored Obama significantly over Clinton. A huge chunk of her voters showed up and voted for Obama in the Iowa caucus, and women showed up and made the significant difference, but unlike what Hillary thought, those women voted for Obama significantly.

In order to participate in the Iowa Democratic Party’s First-in-the-Nation Caucuses youmust meet the following qualifications:

Be a resident of Iowa and of the precinct in which you wish to participate.

Be a U.S. citizen and otherwise eligible voter (18 by November 4, 2008).

Be a registered voter, registered as a Democrat (you can register at the caucus).

Be in the registration line or signed in by 7:00pm

Obama beat Hillary among women voters 35 to 30 percent.
Amid record Democratic turnout, as many people under 30 showed up to caucus as those over 65.

Sixty percent of the GOP electorate in Iowa were born-again Christians.

Rudy Giuliani finished with a mere 4,013 votes, in sixth place, with less than half of the support of Ron Paul.

Taking them in order:

One:
Hillary lost tonight to Barack Obama by 8 points — a margin just as wide as Mitt Romney catastrophic shortfall against Mike Huckabee.

And Obama beat her eight ways to Sunday. He edged her out among Democrats 32/31, and cleaned her clock among independents (44/17) and wayward Republicans (41/10). He beat her among people making less than $15,000 (37/30) and more than $100,000 (41/19). He beat her among health-care voters (34/30) and suburban voters (30/25).

Most astounding however, he beat her among her core supporters, women, by five points. What more can I say than — in a night of mind boggling statistics — that that’s the stat of the night.

A black man did this. In a state that’s 96 percent white. This is truly a historic night in America.

Two:
The turnout on the Democratic side was unreal. It soared from 124,000 in 2004 to 230,000 in 2008. And that’s all about the man who won.

Obama’s been drawing record crowds from San Francisco to Des Moines — but there was always the question of whether he could produce a similar effect among real live voters.

He did so in a way that no one predicted. 57 percent of the caucus goers tonight had never caucused before. Most impressive: As many people under thirty showed up as senior citizens.

That’s fucking nuts is what that is. That’s the Rock the Vote political wet dream that never ever comes true… actually coming true.
What this portends for Obama as a national candidate is something truly special. He’s not only proven that he can draw the support of independents and open-minded Republicans. He’s the one guy who can make the Democratic pie higher, bringing new, unlikely voters into the fold. If he could replicate this kind of support among young people in a general election, it’s game over.
