. Biden, Gravel out.
. Dodd is out too, but pledges to keep up the FISA fight. He’s a class act.
. Obama won 32% to 31% among Democrats over Hillary.
. Mark Ambinder reporting that despite denying that a deal was made, Richardson supporters moved in a bloc for Obama, and Obama advisor Samantha Power appears to confirm there was in fact a deal (YouTube).
. McCain is clearly the anointed one of the party, and all the DC media elite showed up last night to pay homage to his campaign. With Huckabee having such a commanding lead, should be interesting to see how they handle his campaign in the coming days.

zeddish
hi jane
What a night!
Good grief – I even read the post before I called it a zed. Where is everyone? Should I let them know? Nah. I like having the stage to myself.
I am surprised that Edwards finished 2nd with that much of the vote.
I am also surprised that Paul is more popular than Guiliani.
The turnout was amazing. Bout time the winds changed. Of course, it’s a few years too late!
Final Dem Results and Two Questions
Published by Texas Betsy
January 3, 2008 in Iowa, Democrats and election 2008. Edit
Here are the results from the Iowa Caucus:
Final Results:
Obama : 37.58%
Edwards : 29.75%
Clinton : 29.47%
Richardson : 2.11%
Biden : 0.93%
Uncommitted : 0.14%
Dodd : 0.02%
Precincts Reporting: 1781/1781
How different would those numbers be if the (A) corporate media had given each of the candidates the same amount of coverage; and (B) each candidate had the same amount of money to spend.
Was that you, Jane, at precinct 53 on CSPAN? Wearing the white shirt and red scarf (or something)?
Considering Julie Annie was out of state I am amazed he got 4 percent.
I must say I’m happy to see Rachel Maddow included in MSNBC’s round-table of Serious People.
Could someone post the numbers on rethug side? I know Huckabee won big, but I’d like to see the “down ballot” guys. Thanks.
Jane says “Dodd is out too, but pledges to keep up the FISA fight. He’s a class act.”
Yes.
BO can give a great speech…..but thats about all. What is his record regarding funding the war in Iraq? He is all talk…..Maybe he gave a speech saying he was against the war before he was a Senator, but his votes in the Senate should speak for themselves.
Has he actually done anything as a Senator? I think he is an empty suit taking advantage of a naive electorate……just my opinion.
How different would it be if they (I mean the Iowa Democrats) could just drop a ballot in a box?
I understand that’s just not how it is but I’ve always wondered how much different it would be.
I am really surprised that Richardson went with Obama over Edwards and especially Hillary.
I guess because of the way he seemed to be pro Hillary in the debate.
The final results look particularly bad for Hillary when you round them, as the papers and networks will:
Obama 38%
Edwards 30%
Clinton 29%
I sent a thank-you email to Chris Dodd and said we’d be beside him in his FISA fight — we will, right?
I wonder if the “Firefighters for Dodd” bus can be re-fitted to say something like “Firefighters for Edwards”…will be contacting my shop steward!
of course!
When is the Democrats’ first “closed” primary, where Hillary will challenge the two front-runners on their appeal to independents? New Hampshire allows independents to vote in the Democratic party. Does South Carolina?
Teddy, absolutely.
So Huckabee won the majority of his votes from the Evangelical and fundementalist Christian crowd.
But what I’ve seen time and time again with the GOP Presidential contenders, is that one guy does not stay on the top for long. The others will claw and drag him back down most likely. I’m expecting GOP to align together for a non-Huck way. Basically, the GOP will split tentatively between the religious and non-religious camps..
If the Democrats had a Karl Rove, he would hit this spot harder than any other spot. Attack the religion, or attack the lack of religion. That’s an easy fault line.
Dodd for majority leader!
Obama for Prez!
Edwards for AG!
Yes, indeed.
AZ Feb 5th is a closed primary…. actually called Presidential preference
I think Nevada and SC are closed primaries
I like Very Much!
Could Richardson be a VP candidate. His foreign experience would be invaluable. Also surprised that Richardson didn’t side with Hillary. Must have been some disagreements between Richardson and the Clintons. Probably about the war.
but agree about Obama – his votes in the Senate recently abou the war have been anything but stellar. Especially his not speaking out about the immunity for the telephone companies.
Thank you Jane for all of the work that you’ve done. We can always count on you to get the real scoop.
What an interesting night. It didn’t go like I thought it would but really no one can make that claim.
For all that we’ve said that tonight does not select the nominee there has been a lot of teeth nashing over the Obama win. Wow. There is still a lot of campaigning to be done. It’s going to be an exciting two weeks coming up.
Go Chris Dodd. I wish I could vote for him for Majority Leader. He’s got a set.
I’m disappointed in the press all the way around, but what is particularly frustrating is their complete omission from Edwards from any conversation. They blather on and on about the fact that Romney grossly over-spent Huckabee in Iowa, yet don’t mention the fact that Edwards spent far less money than Obama and Clinton–and he beat Clinton. Here is another case in point from you, Jane:
“Obama won 32% to 31% among Democrats over Hillary.”
Hello? John Edwards is running this race, and he beat Hillary Clinton in Iowa. He at the very least deserves a nod.
Richardson probably got a really good deal out of Obama. Not to say what it is, but Richardson probably has his eye on State, and his main issue is getting troops out of Iraq.
Thank you Chris Dodd. Good luck with the FISA fight. I will be with you! You are a true patriot!
Richardson supporters in my precinct did not uniformly march to Obama. They had about 70 people there, and I know that about 25 came over to the Edwards side. That allowed us to get enough for a 3rd delegate, definitively beating Clinton who only got 2. It was extremely exciting!
Out of the 760-odd people that caucused in my precinct, half ended up on the Obama side. They took up fully half of the auditorium we were in.
OK, how ’bout “John Edwards beat Hillary Clinton also.”?
I don’t think it would take a deal for Richardson supporters to move as a bloc to Obama. As Greg Palast said, given Richardson’s background it’s at least as apt to call him a Citibank-American as a Hispanic American; the guy is very pro-business, and people who back him would tend to be allergic to Edwards. And if they liked Clinton why would they bother with Richardson? So they would have nowhere else to go.
The thing about Dodd is that he does what Harry Reid doesn’t and what Hillary and Obama only talk about. He has shown real leadership in the FISA debate. They all could and should learn something from him.
Go Edwards!
What a strong vote of confidence from Iowans! He worked it, baby! With zero help from the press.
I am happy with his finish.
I’m just gonna share what I wrote to my best friend:
Well, pigs flew tonight. I’m heartened by the results, and think it will be very interesting to see how Edwards progresses in NH and in the South. The junior Senator from New York may be able to raise mad money, but this election isn’t going to be about that. Enough said.
Senator Obama is a very, very interesting phenomena. I don’t think he’s ready to be the President. I am convinced he should, and will be President of the United States. There’s a rumour going around the Internets that Obama and Edwards are negotiating a deal that finds them taking both of the places on the Democratic ticket, based on the outcome of the primaries. We could do much worse.
I’m sorta sad about Sad Bill Richardson, but hey, New Mexico needs a good governor. And the state of Connecticut needs a real Democratic Senator, and has one with Chris Dodd.
On the other hand, that sound you hear is Peggy Noonan’s head is exploding with the Huckabee win. Oh well.
Richardson has announced he is staying in for New Hamspshire …
I think, CanyonWren, that Jane’s seen some exit or entrance polling that shows that, among Democrats only, Obama beat Hillary 32/31, which is extraordinary considering her appeal for a “closed” primary. I don’t believe disrespect to Edwards was intended.
This would be easy to determine, as independents and GOPs needed to change their registration to participate in the Democratic caucuses tonight.
Take a look at the vote-by-ideology box of this report. The more liberal (self-identified) voters prefered Obama, while the more conservative prefered Edwards. Hmmmmm.
Tex,
Still here — am I alone?
Ditto. Exactly.
I am so sick of the biased media.
I hope Edwards has good security on out. (diddo obama)
If these guys are really for change they need to beware they don’t get the Huey Long treatment. Many say he was planning to run for prez. Assassinated in the Louisiana capitol.
And how about that dem voter turnout in crummy weather?
Had enough America?
Hell, yeah!
Gravel is not out. MSNBC ran misinformation. More info at http://www.gravel2008.us
Also let me give another suspicion I have — that all this money that the dems are raising is just the corporate money deciding this will be a dem prez next and are putting the money in big time to get a candidate they can live with. They have gotten everything they wanted under Bush, and now will try to maintain under a dem prez. And Obama (if they can’t have Clinton) will be that person.
It is also why I believe the republican field is so awful. They, too, know a dem president will be next (actually I think they are happy because the problems are so big and they can complain about the problems under the dem all the way to the next election ala Clinton). They are setting the next prez up for failure too. And then the next phase of the corporate takeover will begin. The next four years is a holding pattern.
O.K. it is late and I am frustrated as usual. Glad all the young people showed up; hope they are not just attracted by the shiney objects and listen to the issues; hope we continue to work for our progressive plans despite someone designating a leader for us; and hope all of america wakes the he** up.
Whoa!
Did Rachel M just kick Matthews’ ass, or what?!!?
Tweety , almost tearfull, delivers his post-mortem on the election, spinning it as politicians just needin’ a little bipartianship, starting with dropping vanity…blah blah blah.
Rachel takes that slow, high hanging curve and blasts it out of the park. Saying how it ain’t a matter of getting the two party’s singin’ Kumbaya on say, universal healthcare. But to deal with the real obstruction to progress on the issue– the medical industrial complex. (Okay, she didn’t use that exact term, but you get the idea.)
You go goirl!
Me too, GrandmaJ. Ditto dat.
Isn’t it ironic that a man with a Kenyan father just took a huge step tonight toward becoming President of the United States during the exact same time in Kenya, there are hundreds being killed as a result of their elections?
Rachel was quite feisty with Matthews all night. I hope it was her audition for Tucker’s spot. She passed with flying colors, in my view.
My dream is a contested Democratic Convention. The Dem candidates stay in the news for the next 7-8 months and we get to air all of our ideas on how to clean up the Republican mess. I really don’t want our candidate to be picked too soon. That happened last election and the camera fell off of Kerry and onto the next dead blonde chick. That is my nightmare.

Rachel’s theme was that we hear the same bodacious promises about this time every election cycle, and Congress has to pass many of these things.
I’d have liked to hear a lot more Rachel and less Mathews.
I am really cynical on Iraq stopping, and I hope I’m proved dead wrong.
I only saw Rachel in her first appearance and she looked a bit odd. Had trouble making eye contact/looking at the camera. Did that get better?
If Rachel were to get Tucker’s spot, that’d be great. I’ve been listening to her radio show for a good while. Articulate truth to power would be spoken there.
Just catching up on the last post and I must say…
Huckabee can de-liver!
Ron Paul (R) (Crazy)
gets 10%, beating out Ghouliani.
Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Bye Rudy.
Edwards results were much less impressives among democrats:
Obama 32%
Clinton 31%
Edwards 23%
Strangely, Edwards seem more popular with the conservatives. (See #39.)
Does anyone have sense of whether or not Edwards has enough money to stay in through super Tuesday?
PetePierce, you said you are cynical on “Iraq stopping”? Why? Won’t Obama try to stop this war? Yeah, I don’t believe it either. The military complex is just to big.
You betcha we will be with Dodd on FISA.
And that, too. Jeesh, I tell ya.
Bad omen for the GOP
Each of our Democratic candidates received twice(nearly or more) of the Repug winner.
More dems prefering Obama I don’t understand. From my point of view Edwards public positions are much clearer. Obama left lots of wiggle room. Maybe I have not done my due diligence, but didn’t he skip some key votes recently.
The GOP may need Huckabee to help them all pray for forgiveness after their resounding defeat next November.
Which is why they don’t want to run against Edwards. He would, indeed, pull in just the votes that Obama is saying he wants. Although i would not consider Obama a liberal. Other than being against the war, in words if not actions, early, is Obama that liberal about things like health care?
Lets just hope this isn’t them trying to game our selection process.
Okay, thank you for that explaination. I do think she should have posted that information if it is, indeed, the way she views it. No mention of him just furthers the notion that Edwards is a non-entity.
Jeez, The Beard already trying to extrapolate the results to the Convention in August.
Please.
Wow. What a frickin evening!!
I can’t remember the last time I felt this psyched. The turnout and the excitement and all the new voters caucasing on the Democratic side.
Elated!!
Thanks for that calculation, Katymine. Very powerful numbers indeed.
Edwards needs to wake up and find an outpouring of bucks in his campaign right soon. I feel awful that he may be unable to get to Feb 5 for lack of money.
The fact that Obama is cozy with Holy Joe Liarman is enough for me to take everything he (BO) says with a huge grain of salt. He only looks and sounds like change. But he votes very conservatively, if at all. I’m very suspicious of his alliances.
Edwards is walking the walk. So is/was Dodd.
I share your frustration about TradMed’s deliberate overlooking of Edwards, but you will not find it much in evidence hereabouts. Tweety couldn’t even say his name tonite! Except, of course, to refer to him as someone who wants to redistribute wealth.
Tweety’s greatest fear is that his own wealth will be redistributed. I want his house on Martha’s Vineyard, and I plan to share it will ALL of you!
FISA will be very interesting too. Reid is poised to defeat Dodd and he needs help from other Senators who need to grow a backbone in two weeks–I hope that can be done.
It’s not just immunity that has to fail–the whole S. 2248 simply reeks, and the reason is that if you read it, the judgement as to what is illegal is left to the Attorney General and the Director of National Intelligence. They need to gut it and start over really.
I don’t know enough about these things but this speaks volumes about Edwards electability. In a general election, he’d get the liberal vote plus pull a lot of conservatives. Talk about reaching across the aisle!
But, what’s with the very liberal (self-described) folks who prefer Obama. What’s up with them?
My question does that apply?
Did they check voter registration at the Caucus door?
Do they know how many were actual Democrats vs independents vs Repugs?
When you hear comments that Repugs were showing up in numbers to vote for Obama just to cast an anti-Hillary vote (see TaylorMarsh), I am just not sure.
Let’s just let new FISA lapse.
While I’m sad that Dodd had to concede and drop out at this point, I still think he should continue on in one other arena: build support to be selected the next Majority Leader. Reid’s proven to be less effective than we progressives want in that position…less effective at standing up to the Executive, less effective at utilising the Democratic majority, less effective in choosing some of his committee leadership. I can’t help but think that Dodd would do better in that position….I *really* want somebody who would have the Shrub and Deadeye Dick worry, not only over their last days in office, but for years afterwards, by constantly investigating what documents come out of this Presidency unshredded and un-deleted, and assiduously prosecuting all law-breaking exposed.
My understanding is that non-Democrats were required to change their registration tonite in order to participate. Not sure how carefully anyone checked, but I’ll bet Iowans were thorough.
Edwards would be a fine President IMHO and it would be exciting and he is a terrifically smart lawyer who knows Washington and the Senate, but my man is Obama, and I’d look for him to be pretty clear.
The other aspect is that promises just fly during this time of year Ms.Anna, and trying to compare them and what actually can happen with a recalcitrant Congress is tough to do.
That link gave you a quick reference to positions on many key issues if you click on the tabs.
That is just the solution to a lot of things…
Don’t vote for emergency war funding…
Just don’t vote for a new FISA bill
Just don’t vote for funding for the Fourth Branch of Cheney
Just don’t confirm any MORE wingnut judges
For how long? Wouldn’t Dubya just run on executive orders?
Just my guess: Obama keeps preaching about “change” and this will sell. Most people don’t really follow how a senator votes on stuff. Even medium info folks. the political junkies here know the real deal, but does this cut through the noise?
Edwards is the most sincere candidate besides Dodd and perhaps Kucinich IMHO. That’s my keyword for his campaign: sincerity.
Minnesota won a special election tonight giving us a veto proof majority. Halleluja. I am going to try to link on this new site so if I miss it, it is on Kos diary.
Teddy I’ve been confused on that point. If you can nail that down, I’d sure appreciate it because if they had to change registration, obviously it has much more significace. Also I’m not sure how the rumors that Republicans were intentionally trying to get Obama first in Iowa really played out, given the registration question.
It is beyond understanding that our Senate Majority Leader is anti-choice. Can you imagine the GOPs with a tax-raiser as Leader? Choice is a core Democratic value, as taxcuts are to the GOPs.
Reid must go.
Oh crud. Didn’t work. I will try it again.
My hope is that by the time new Hampshire is over the Gopers will read the writing on the wall and start de funding the war.
I wonder, also, if folks could newly register tonite. And, if so, how many newly registered participants attended, and whom they caucused for.
After this caucus, I say Edwards has a fighting chance. In fact, this will turn a lot MORE attention to Edwards. The last year, we’ve heard Obama vs. Clinton. Nothing but Obama vs. Clinton. The worst political attacks, and the worse coverage between the two.
Now, if the numbers are displayed correctly, people will see ‘whos this Edwards guy, and why’s he ahead of Clinton?’ People may even research further just to make sure. Edwards is a clean guy. I don’t bump into people who don’t like him. Even conservative friends of mine prefer Edwards over all other Dems and quite a few GOP’ers too. Of course, I know plenty of conservatives who have beef with Obama or Clinton for plenty of the Red Meat reasons. But Edwards? Less Red Meat reasons to hate him. Actually comes off well.
Who can vote in Iowa
Romney supporters: Reagan lost Iowa, as did George H W Bush in 1988 (to Pat Robertson, another preacherman)
Teddy,
I am with you — your voice is so assuring.
Christine
I thought I was a dreamer! If only it worked like that, if only. Goopers are owned by their sponsors, not by voters. They have demonstrated that time and again in the past few years, haven’t they? And are they all feeling so very confident in their ability to pull out the bag o’ dirty tricks to get the job done come election time?
Sorry for my cynicism. I am really still enjoying the showing that Edwards got tonight.
Tomorrow I’ll try to nail that as well.
The Beard reporting Biden is out too.
It’s important that Tweety be reminded of his prediction that John McCain would get 18% of the GOP caucus voters, every time he crows about his Obama prediction.
Way past my bed time….. Thanks for being there Jane…. nite nite all.
Me too. Last day to play with my niece and nephew before they head back home to Oregon. We went to the Snake Farm today. Who knows what the morrow brings?
Katymine it seems that they have to register as Democrats, but I’m still not sure of the implications for them in the general election and other elections:
Caucus Night Proceedures:
Who Can Participate at the Caucuses? In order to participate in the Iowa Democratic Party’s First-in-the-Nation Caucuses youmust meet the following qualifications:•
Be a resident of Iowa and of the precinct in which you wish to participate.•
Be a U.S. citizen and otherwise eligible voter (18 by November 4, 2008).•
Be a registered voter, registered as a Democrat (you can register at the caucus).•
Be in the registration line or signed in by 7:00pm.

“Minnesota DFL gains veto proof margin in Senate with special election victory” is the title of the Kos diary. Sorry I could not link. But absolutely great news.
Like many here, I have been disappointed at times with Obama, especially recently. I have been disappointed several times in Edwards as well. Dodd and Kucinch have made me go “WTF!?!” several times over the years.
But I can’t get over Obama’s story. Imagine him as a kid in Hawaii or Indonesia telling his schoolmaster that he’s gonna be the President someday. I can only imagine the responses he would’ve (did) gotten. Now here he is tonight taking a huge step closer to that possibility. Truly living the mythical “American Dream.”
Bill Clinton overcame some big odds as well, but frankly they were pretty minor compared to what Obama has had to overcome. Having lost my mother at a fairly young age similar to Obama, before she could see much of what I have accomplished, and my wife and children, I can only imagine what he must be feeling right now.
Assuming he’s the candidate, which is by no means certain at this point, I do hope that much of the pandering he has been doing is based on what he’s learned to do in society to get into this position in the first place. His worldly “street smarts,” and what he has done his entire adult life give me some confidence that he’ll be quite Liberal.
At this point, I’m thinking he has quite a tightrope walk to walk at all times given his skin color, so I’m willing to chalk some of this stuff up to that. Time will tell of course.
Sure there’s some chance involved with Obama, but with another Clinton we know what we’re going to get, and I know I don’t want that. I’m sure Ruturd Murdoch wasn’t happy with Clinton’s showing tonight.
Snake Farm
I hope Biden will join Dodd, as he promised many months ago, in his FISA filibuster. Fewer distractions, perhaps….
That would be great.
At the very least. Not one more judge until 1/21/09.
Not one more Federalist mole.

I have to say I sort of admired how Biden kept his family so actively involved in his campaign.. even though I would have advised him to hide his sister with her annoying voice/accent.
Yep, he’s singing about the one we went to today. Anybody traveling south to San Antonio on I-35 has seen the signs. It is a pretty grodie (sp) place, but the kids loved it. (We took two other kids along.)
Pretty good night, all things considered. I’d like to have seen Edwards win, but he’s still alive, and Obama, with some help from John, just derailed the Clinton Coronation Express, at least temporarily. :o)
I liked her high-minded “concession” speech. Now, for the next five days, with her campaign hanging in the balance, we’ll see how gracious she really is.
Bill Bennett got off a good warning to Obama:
“Tell him to cover his back and his knees. The Clinton’s play hardball.”
:o)
If she can’t win New Hampshire, the money and the support will begin drying up, and too, Obama has a good chance to win in South Carolina.
After all the hype, if Clinton is ofer three after the first three primaries, she’ll be dusting off her senate seat.
A pure delight to see Huckabee win. :o)
Limbaugh, Coulter, Novak, Will, and the rest of the “real” conservatives will be frothing at the mouth about Huckabee for the next five days. :o)
MSNBC will have to double Chris Matthews’ time-slot, so he can have the airtime to diss Huck AND Clinton. :o)
It seems that way. I’m hoping JP Stevens stays in good health. The Court was dealt an egregiously terrible blow when the nitwit Democrats on SJC let Roberts and Alito through while licking their ass the whole way.
It is one of the most hurtful Democratic blunders in two decades IMHO.
After how hard MSM pimped Clinton, they sure must be sore that the constantly-smeared Obama and the constantly-ignored Edwards pulled ahead of their horse.
One is licking their wounds, the other champions in the shadows. I like Edwards and Obama. I like what they’ve done with what’s been thrown at them.
just sounds nasty
Thanks for the link pete, I wondered what DFL stood for. I couldn’t believe that Grandma J would say dirty f’ing liberals…at least not in her headline! ;)
It is. The shelves in the gift shop haven’t been dusted in years. But the kids who run said they are fixin’ it up . . .
I’m talking all judges.

By the way, I’m listening to Fox(eep!) they are saying that there’s anxiety about the economy.
Epiphanies abound.
I can’t wait to see when the GOP finally starts pointing at Bush and calling him a turd in the punchbowl.
Did anyone see this?
I think Huckabee’s campaign was doing this themselves. At least it makes sense to me.
Hi Suzanne, you been here the whole time? Who were you rooting for again? I mean, if you’re declarin’
That was supposed to be a reply to you Suze @112, but it didn’t come through. Now Mr. Gnome is back awake looking for ice cream. I’d better hide.

DiFiLoser?
LOL. I know a lot of people who are saying it on blogs tonight though, and if you ck out the Repug blogs they don’t understand the significance of the turnout either–but that doesn’t surprise me at all.
Suz how did you make out with todays warm up storm? Wasn’t bad here.
Your link didn’t work, fyi.
Have you signed congressman Wexlers petition?
haven’t figured it out yet… still looking at maybe edwards… dont know yet
Olbermann had the actual letter — several typos, which made me wonder if it was the Romneyites trying to look stoopit so Huck’s team would get blamed.
Yes And try this one:http://journals.democraticunderground.com/davidswanson/298
After learning KKKarl bugged his own office back in the day, yeah, why not? It seems Huck is creating this sort of martyr strategery and it would fit. OTOH, lots of Rs are ticked that he’s doing so well. Either way, it’s a sad way to conduct election business.
power out a wee bit this morning but been lucky so far (fingers and toes crossed) this is just the prelim to the big storm that is gonna dump between 4 and 8 inches of rain up here tomorrow – with hurricane force winds expected up around 1,000 feet elevation – makes me glad to be at 627 and nestled in a little valley

Dam those links
Do you understand that Reid let a slew of Federalist conservatives onto the trial and appellate bench just before the adjourned en mass in a deal? I’ll find the specifics later.
Four days, six hours, fifteen minutes until the New Hampshire polls open.
Wow, this election season is coming at us fast now that it’s finally started!
Dodd, Dodd, Dodd for Majority Leader.

yeah, same here. A few months ago, I wasn’t sure he was passionate enough. But now it seems like he is warming up to his message and taking it to the streets. Obama and Clinton have simply lost me with their gamesmanship on the senate floor. I hope Iowa means more mo’ for Edwards.
TSF,
This place is gonna be wall to wall with the goons.
I am going to go see the Chuck and Huck Show at a place called The Lobster Tail.
Gonna be fun.

Good luck! With that much rain keep an eye for slides particularly if you are near the upslope of the valley.
I used to have a friend out on white house Rd and some of the houses there you could walk right up onto the roof due to a mud slide. The wind shouldn’t bother you nestled in the valley.
me three.
Reid is a disaster and Dodd is the antidote. Or antidope?
Couldn’t agree more. He should be a held in our highest esteem!
We’re battening down the hatches, too. We just drove back from the central coast and so glad to be off the road with the blast that is expected.
gtg, pups. go edwards!
Absolutely. BTW, thanks for the linky. Nice to see another congresscritter jump on the impeachment bandwagon.
Obama can handle the Noize Machine. He was the first to lay down the gauntlet with Pox News, refusing to appear on the network a year ago now:
http://mcdac.blogspot.com/2007…..eezer.html
He immediately refused any debates associated with Pox, including the Congressional Black Caucus sponsored debate, which was quite risky on the PR front.
I like how he called bullshit on the flag lapel pin nonsense, and refused to back down on that. These among other similar things have helped bust up some of Conglomerate Media messaging that’s been so damaging, and helped knock Murdoch News down a few pegs. I give him credit for this.
Now if he would only start taking more brave stands with his voting…
Is Dodd? We need to figure our why Reid is such a pussy. Really. I think we need brand new people. Whitehouse comes to mind
Pach got some statistics about that on his crackberry earlier, so I think that information is available, but I don’t know where.

Our weakest finisher beats their best. (And Huckabee had an advantage in Iowa in that the GOP there is bursting with Fundies; that’s not the case in New Hampshire.) As for Mitt, Grandpa Fred, McCain and Rudy? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Oh, and watch RNC Chair Mel Duncan bend himself into knots rather than let the words “Mike Huckabee” pass his lips. (Gee, and isn’t it odd that the RNC’s website isn’t mentioning the Iowa caucus results, whereas the DNC page has ‘em front and center?)
Yikes!
Suzanne, do you have an emergency kit?
That ain’t nothing to play with. If you don’t, i would at least get some essentials ready.
I’m certainly with you there Greg.
Yupper.
Please understand that, per CNN’s poll, among democrats attending the Iowa cacuses the outcome was:
32% Obama
31% Clinton
23% Edwards.
I.e., among the folks who count in the Democratic primary nationwide it was a tie between Obama and Clinton.
Yep, heard about it from Ms. Redshift who is in Nashua. The schedule does sound pretty insane. (She’s giving it a miss, since she was working in the campaign office until after midnight.)
As much as I care about politics, I spent most of the evening not following the results and the spin from Iowa, but watching the Kansas Jayhawks football team defeat the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Orange Bowl. In response to that, I simply wish to say, “Rock Chalk Jay Hawk.”
I realize this is not a sports blog, so I will say no more about that. I will say that regardless of how much of their support was Democratic, Republican or independent, I believe the victories by Obama and Hucksterbee tonight are significant and that those events will have powerful effects upon what happens next in the presidential race.
Huh? What do you mean “the folks who count”? The delegates are allocated by the caucus results, not by those who were registered as Democrats before the caucuses. The Clinton camp is trying to spin it that the numbers among previously registered Democrats is the important number because it makes them look better, but that doesn’t make it true.
Those numbers are stunning.
If we have something like an Obama/Edwards ticket, the Blue Wave in the ‘06 elections will seem minor compared to ‘08. Those two could electrify the country and would be unstoppable I think.
However, we must never forget how far we all still need to go, and must not get complacent. We need so many More and Better Dems, that the Repube Party gets completely dismantled for years to come in addition to the DLC. Let’s swing that pendulum farther and farther.
I smell blood in the water.
sorry, busted, i was out walking token when you posted this. yes, i have emergency kit, a full pantry, gas stove and heater, a fireplace insert, AND am on bedrock up above the creek. have been here when i’ve gotten close to 7″ in one day and the water never got up to the ‘time to leave’ mark.

The folks whose votes will be counted in the rest of the Democratic primaries will be registered Democrats. Among CNN’s sampling of registered Democrats attending the Iowa’s Democratic caucuses the results were:
32% Obama
31% Clinton
23% Edwards.
At least that’s how I understand what CNN says here: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20…..#val=IADEM

I don’t get these numbers at all. Edwards is skewed it seems, or I’m reading this wrong. And I saw this when you posted it in the last thread and looked hard at it…
Eeww!
Just watched Obama’s speech tonight on YouTube (successfully avoided Conglomerate News all day/night), and we already know Obama gives good speech, but it was really cool to hear Olbermann’s voice come on after. And been seeing in the comments tonight that Rachel Maddow was on all night as well.
This is a great development and very refreshing. Baby steps…baby steps…
You have no idea how happy I am to be here. Crappy day at work. The computer I use doesn’t have internet access for security reasons, and the wireless access we used to have disappeared, so bringing my own laptop to work is useless now. The batteries died in my little AM radio, so I couldn’t even listen to Air America. I was in an information black hole all day, and I didn’t like it. At all.
So now I’m here at the lake with my feet in the water, sipping a glass of wine.
Pretty cool about Edwards coming in second, huh? It’s gonna be an interesting year. :)
just checked my rain gauge – only an inch and a half of rain so far
1,716 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
The corporate bosses are countin’ their money tanight…Barak O’Lieberman is as phony as a $3 bill and is a wholey owned subsidiary of that faction of the oligarchy that owns the University of Chicago (can anyone spell Rockefeller?), Mrs. Clinton is a Murdock bot and the Hucklberry Huckster is every fascists dream.
We have some work to do but I’m afraid that the “change” theme has been coopted by O’lieberman and is gunna be a cover for more Bushenomics…Barak’s speech scared the shit outta me!
KEEP THE FAITH AND NEVER GIVE UP…FASCISM NEVER SLEEPS!!
Watching Hillary Clinton’s (concession?) speech on TV, I notice Madeline Albright standing right behind her. I have nothing against Albright, don’t actually know much about how she performed as Secretary of State, but can’t help but feel that in a sense (and I don’t mean anything sexist by this) Sen. Clinton’s campaign is a proxy for a redux of the Bill Clinton administration. I wonder how many former Bill Clintonites Sen. Clinton has supporting her campaign. I wonder if anybody really wants to go back to the 90s, or if our country’s recovery from the Bush administration might not require a new approach. I don’t really know what Sen. Clinton refers to when she talks about “change”–a step forward, or a step into the past?
oh TOW, you gotta always have good batteries in the transistor. i would go bonkers without a radio when i’m cut off due to power failures in winter. feeling outta the information loop is unsettling to me
Norske! you nailed it in your wrap up

That’s some mighty fine flame you’re throwing there, Norske!
Nothing to do but send $$$ to Edwards and I mean yesterday.
time for me to head out, pups g’nite all
I know! There’s a small stockpile of batteries at home, but there were no extras in my bag. That will be fixed tonight.
Has it already started raining there? I heard about a big storm coming. Yikes. CA has already it’s share of crappy weather problems. You guys need a break. Not that mother nature is listening to me or anything.
Yes. The devil will be in the details. The timing and urgency will be exquisite.
My money is on carefully constructed ambiguities – possibly even more “unbeknownst to anyone” slip-ins.
Albright: Well she was OK with sitting in an office and giving orders contemplated (we must assume there WAS some contemplative consideration) to result in civilian deaths. Not that she was the first (or last) US person to be OK with this stuff.
Nite, Suzanne! And yes, newton, Edwards is gonna get some money from me this month.
Norske @ 186 – Totally agree about Obama and his underexamined economic philosophies and political allegiances. Chicago + Lieberman very very bad. Emphatically NOT “change”. Despite the advertising. I expect Hil to start transparent attempts to redefine or otherwise co-opt the word “change” immediately if not sooner.
neuro @ 187 – Not just Albright (who I find to be excellent FWIW) but also Wes Clark, wasn’t it? I had the definite sense of all those old white Clintonites standing exposed, realizing their world was passing away as they just stood there nervously smiling, unable to do anything at all about it. They are Old World now.
Hmmm.
Hey,
Just where do you and Suzanne live? I’m getting a bit concerned. I’m out here in Pacific Beach Washington outside of the library using their wifi and I can hear the winds picking up. Should I be checking the weather? The last time we had a huge wind storm, last month, I was basically homeless for a week. A good time what NOT had by all.
Nite Suzanne. Keep safe from that storm.
lisa dawn – Watches, warnings, advisories, etc. available at NOAA — see http://www.weather.gov/ and click on your area.
‘Nite, Suzanne — sweet dreams.
I’m in SW Washington, not too far from Portland. There is a fairly large storm in the pacific, and southern CA (I think) is supposed to get a lot of rain. Like a foot. We’ll have lots of rain all along the west coast for the next couple of days.
Notwithstanding anything else that may be relevant, I am listening to Obama’s victory speech for the second time tonight and I must say he gives a good speech.
Thanks. Just checked out the weather warnings. Looks like high winds until Saturday afternoon, up to 40 mph sustained with gusts to 60 mph. What a drag. There are a ton of trees still leaning quite heavily from the last storm. I’ve got work in Olympia tomorrow. I think I’ll take extra clothes just in case. This blows, literally.
Obama speechifying now. Y’know, when you think about it from the perspective of his Chicago School links, his whole “Change” theme is actually kinda creepy. Crisis = danger + opportunity etc.
“Dodd, Dodd, Dodd for Majority Leader.”
Absolutely.
BO: “Free this nation from the tyranny of oil once and for all” … would Joey L. approve?
G’night all. To those of you thousands of mile past sunset: Hope you’re OK – sending prayers westward. Fill your containers and bathtubs. Stay low.
Even if Obama is another DLCer signifying nothing, unlike Bill Clinton’s reign, we have infrastructure in place, through blogs, Air America, Olbermann, etc, to keep him honest. It’s a whole new era.
Personally, I don’t think Obama is since he has publicly insulted the DLC, and more importantly there’s nothing in his entire life’s work to suggest that he’ll put business interests first.
Because he called LieberME! a mentor, and he’s had an OK voting record the last year or so since he started campaigning, it’s not enough for me to throw out his life’s work. Feingold, Dodd, Bernie Sanders have all said good things about Likuderman at some point, and have all voted “wrong” several times.
Plus, Obama has said many more positive things about Feingold (actually campaigned for him as well) and has co-sponsored bills with him. After Lamont kicked Lieberman’s hadassah in the primary, Obama did endorse and give money to Lamont, even though other “Dems” like Mary Landreau still endorsed J. Low. Seems to me his Liberal compass is on pretty straight, and that he’s got a very fine line to walk given his skin color, which I never seem to see mentioned in critiques of Obama, nonetheless is very real in American society.
No matter what the case is, we’ll be watching this time.
If Obama winds up the candidate, then I most fervently hope you’re right about him! I admit all I have is fears, not facts, so I will be educating myself over these next weeks, comparing campaign rhetoric against reality.
Ain’t that the truth? Things will be very different for the next Dem president. And the country will be better for it.
Good night all. See ya tomorrow.
Haven’t seen Howard Dean’s name mentioned today. Looking at how the Repube’s Applebees % of overall voters doesn’t even come close to Hillary’s, I’d say today could be another sign of how effective the 50-State Strategy is.
I was a campus campaign manager for Jerry Brown in 1992, and we were literally being told to give up by the local DNC staff, and that Clinton was the Chosen One. We were being pests they said, and this was before Iowa.
Compare that to how Dr. Dean is handling this election. Basically the exact opposite. So between these things and the ripples still being felt from his 2003-4 campaign, a big hats off to Howard Dean as well tonight!
David Brooks on NewsHour sez one of the main themes of the election is: “The leadership class has failed the country” — w o w.
IMHO Howard Dean was robbed last time. I didn’t see why the scream thing was so bad — anyone who’s ever been on a stage could understand it.
The last time Bobo strayed, it only took the Gooper Brigade 24 hours to get him back into the fold. More than any other “journalist”, he reminds me of Specter: holds out some candy, and snatches it away at the close.
I agree. I remember being undecided and seeing that and thinking, “Damn, about time someone had passion and excitement for what he was talking about!”
Obviously word went out to take him down. I heard a radio interview (never looked into it myself) that many of the media at Dean’s concession speech were wearing T-shirts that said something like, “Don’t mess with us.” Apparently they were alluding to Dean’s aggressive words about Media complicity, and how we, meaning the media, can take you out if you piss us off. Not sure if that’s true but wouldn’t surprise me.
That’s appalling. I want names of those media people.
Bobo looked like a scared aging endangered patrician when he said it.
I almost get the sense “The Leadership Class” is paranoidly afraid of general insurrection.
“The peasants are revolting!” “You can say that again.”
Wow. It’s true.
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/…..oel20.html
They gave him a shirt, and this person I heard on NPR, a member of the press that was there, said many were wearing it as well.
Unbelievable. This is all a giant game of checkers for the cocktail weenie set. Never mind the hundreds of thousands of lives lost and hundreds of billions of dollars squandered. “We showed you, Dean! Nyuh!”
But I’ll admit that those turnout numbers have to be making them reconsider the choice of undergarments, an altogether satisfying result if illustrative in future contests.
And perhaps more importantly, the messaging the chatterati is used to doesn’t seem to be working on the younger generations. This must be especially unnerving to the weenie munchers, since the youth so far seem more politically active than any time since the 60s, and maybe even more so if the rest of the country follows the Iowa trends. They’re being activists by voting instead of protesting. Should be an interesting year!
Jane was looking at actual delegates who responded in exit polls that they were registered Democrats. Edwards did better than Clinton in Independents and Cross-Over Republicans than Hillary. Jane is simply bringing notice to an important fact. Most of the future primaries will not allow Cross-Party voting. That means it will be Democrats that will determine the outcome.
Edwards may actually do better in attracting such voters in a General Election but may not be able to rely on that demographic in future primaries.

Bless yer heart Bonkers melad but if ya think Barak O’Lieberman is the real thing then “Bonkers’ is a good handle for ya. And what about his willinness (with his “mentor” Joe Likud*rman) to entertain privitising Social Security and then bringin’ the whole issue back up when progressives had driven a stake thru Bush’s attempt to steal what’s left of the program? And what about his history in the Illinois Senate of carryin’ all the water for the Daley machine in Springfield…let’s ask Bobby Rush jest how “progressive” ol’ Barak is!

Lots of spin here as well as by the MSM. This is a “BIG WIN” for Obama. Except when there is a “native son” or another Corn Belt candidate the winner in Iowa has become the national nominee (since 1972).
It’s not how well it predicts who wins the Presidency, it’s who wins the NOMINATION. For Democrats it’s actually highly accurate, when you strip out the Native Sons.
January 19, 2004 - John Kerry (38%), John Edwards (32%), Howard Dean (18%), Richard Gephardt (11%) and Dennis Kucinich (1%)
January 24, 2000 – Al Gore (63%), Bill Bradley (37%)
February 12, 1996 – Bill Clinton (unopposed)
February 10, 1992 – Tom Harkin (76%), “Uncommitted” (12%), Paul Tsongas (4%), Bill Clinton (3%), Bob Kerrey (2%) and Jerry Brown (2%) ~ Harkin was “native son” and no one else campaigned
February 8, 1988 – Richard Gephardt (31%), Paul Simon (27%), Michael Dukakis (22%) and Bruce Babbitt (6%) ~ Gephardt was a near “native son”
February 20, 1984 - Walter Mondale (49%), Gary Hart (17%), George McGovern (10%), Alan Cranston (7%), John Glenn (4%), Reubin Askew (3%) and Jesse Jackson (2%)
January 21, 1980 -Jimmy Carter (42%), Ted Kennedy (31%)
January 19, 1976 – “Uncommitted” (37%), Jimmy Carter (28%), Birch Bayh (13%), Fred R. Harris (10%), Morris Udall (6%), Sargent Shriver (3%) and Henry M. Jackson (1%)
January 24, 1972 – “Uncommitted” (36%) and Edmund Muskie (36%), George McGovern (23%) , Hubert Humphrey (2%), Eugene McCarthy (1%), Shirley Chisholm (1%) and Henry M. Jackson (1%)…Muskie of course was humiliated out of the race after reacting emotionally to slurs made against his wife.
Bobby Rush isn’t exactly my idea of a good judge of character, but even so he’s campaigning for Obama:
http://www.suntimes.com/news/p…..27.article
I don’t know anything about the other things you mentioned, but I’ve been pointing out several things around here recently to support the notion that he isn’t some stealth Milton Friedman operative. I’m not going to ignore the many, many examples of real “in the trenches” things he’s done in his life, especially before becoming a politician, that demonstrate where his heart is.
He has said so many more positive things about Feingold than he has about Lieberman, and has actually gone out on the road for Russ. John Edwards’ voting record from what I could find was much more alarming than Obama’s Ill and DeeCee records. Even the biggest Liberal champions do things that get people pissed off around here from time to time.
Yes, Obama has done some annoying things over the last year especially, but I do think he has many more hurdles to overcome because of his skin color, so I chalk some of this stuff up to calculations. Again, judging by his life’s work, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as much as I have had to do with Edwards, and all his past and present missteps.
Either way, we’ll be here keeping people honest like they’ve never had to be before!
Damn straight, we gotta lotta work to do!
I understand you Rethugs.
All confuser.
You don’t really get the constitutional law that’s been sacked; you just think Shrub is the way, you chickenhawk the fiasco in Iraq not understanding the issues–you also type in capitals which is a bit IT retarded, but the biggest blow, when daddy explains it to you was that the turnout in Iowa, byzantine as the caucus rules out was very significant. Democrats or rethugs who saw the light and registered Democrat outvoted Republicans 2:1.
Obama, far from being meat for the Rovians, is going to kick Romneys ass in the general, and do it easily. A Romney Obama debate is going to be a sight to behold. If Edwards is the Veep, I can’t imagine which turkey will be the Republican veep candidate in the general, probably as per most years for them, someone no one has heard of, who has the vocabulary of a 2 year old.
More and Better!
Adios.
I may not be as medically sophisticated as you guys, but I always thought that the skin color in Barak Obama, or anyone with African American darker skin, or other nationalities with darker skin was that he had the same melanin as you do, but it was significantly more concentrated.
That’s why the incidence of melanoma in African Americans is much lower than in Caucasians due to the additional melanin, or pigment, in the skin. While this pigment offers some sun protection, dark brown or black skin is not a guarantee against melanoma.
I think Bonkers has tapped into something I certainly know is true. Feingold is a staunch protector of civil liberties. If you look at his voting record, and Kennedy’s on Senate Judiciary, he didn’t make the stupid choices the rest of the Democrats did with respect to Alito, Roberts, and Mukasey–none of whom should have been confirmed.
Obama is much more aligned with Feingold, and Feingold or Dodd could become Attorney General under President Obama.
All of us are aware of historical precedents, like Iowa, and New Hampshire where in 1992 Clinton finished last, and with 3% percent in Iowa.
It’s too late now, but later I could show you many stats that differentiate Obama from Bill Clinton in Iowa. He’s also the first African American to win anything in Iowa above dog catcher.
Only someone very superficial would assume winning Iowa for Obama locks things up. There are plenty of tough, tight potential contests. But Obama has momentum that those other individuals who won Iowa don’t have, and you’re going to watch it happen over the next two months.
If you think that because he won Iowa, that you want to bet against Obama, I’m sure you can take as much money as you can spare and go on line and place that bet.
The Sports Illustrated cover curse ain’t gonna work this time, and neither is the Iowa caucus winner’s “curse” you invoked.
But I’m going to give you some advice. Keep that betting money in your pocket–and you’ve made your prediction–I’ve made mine. Watch the primaries as Obama knocks them off one by one. Next one is January 8 on Tuesday. See ya then.
My apologies for the delayed reply. I was working on something else.
The table seems straightforward: an entry tells what percentage of that group (row index) voted for that candidate (column label). Remember this is a survey of the folks who chose to vote in the Democratic caucus. So the row labeled “Republican” represents crossover voters.
But the results seems surprising when I look at the table for party affiliations and the table for ideology. The conservatives in attendance seemed to really like Edwards. Meanwhile the registered Democrats at the caucus liked Hillary as much as Obama, which was about nine points better than they liked Edwards. Not a good sign, if you think that caucus-attending Iowa Democrats are representative of Democrats nationwide.
Right. I understand the chart, but those results – Edwards embraced by Republicans in those numbers…
ok. nite all.
Actually I was conused too. You said:
…but I didn’t see a section of the chart showing party affiliation. What part were you referring to?
Ack, never mind, found it! Repubs were 41%, 23%, 17% respectively. Sorry!
The people who registered Democratic which is a requirement to vote in the Democratic Iowa caucus clearly favored Obama significantly over Clinton. A huge chunk of her voters showed up and voted for Obama in the Iowa caucus, and women showed up and made the significant difference, but unlike what Hillary thought, those women voted for Obama significantly.
In order to participate in the Iowa Democratic Party’s First-in-the-Nation Caucuses youmust meet the following qualifications:
Be a resident of Iowa and of the precinct in which you wish to participate.
Be a U.S. citizen and otherwise eligible voter (18 by November 4, 2008).
Be a registered voter, registered as a Democrat (you can register at the caucus).
Be in the registration line or signed in by 7:00pm
From:
IOWA BY THE NUMBERS
But those are crossover republicans who are choosing from among the democratic candidates.
They crossed over and were required to register Democratic and did so for a significant reason, and that is to vote for Obama.
Further, look at the stats, because including and because of those Independents and Republicans, the participants in the Democratic caucus outnumbered Republicans more than 2:1.
In Iowa last night per the rules:
Republicans could write their name on a slip and book outta Dodge.
Democrats had to stay for two to four hours and participate in a meeting.
There are a lot of stats, granted this is only Iowa and the first caucus with many caucuses and primaries to go, but there are a lot of stats that spell a word that is not a stat:
Momentum
Hi Pete: Thanks. Very interesting numbers. But the number that is most significant in terms of predicting how the rest of the primaries are going to go is mentioned above:
That’s basically a tie. It could be, of course, that the Democrats who attended the Democratic Caucus in Iowa are not typical of Democrats nationwide. (And I hope that’s the case, since I’d prefer Edwards. Sigh.)
It’s entirely possible that the R crossover is what it appears at face value — they couldn’t take any of the R candidates — certainly not Huck — and they mostly couldn’t take Hil ‘cuz of Bill, so that left Obama and Edwards. But because of my fundamentally suspicious nature, I would not necessarily rule out some Roving having been at work… maybe they have some dirt on Obama and they’re waiting to spring it until after the convention, when it’s too late to fix.
It just makes me very very nervous these days when things seem too good/neat to be true.
It’s probably too late for Rs to crossover in NH, but there’s probably time for a massive crossover for SuperTuesday.
Obama’s popularity with caucus-going independents would indicate that he’d be the harder candidate to beat. But you could be right about Rove (or whoever) having some dirt that could be used.
Oops. It’s way past my bedtime. G’nite.

Citizen PetePierce:
“I understand you rethugs. All confuser.”

“Rethug”… now I’ve been called all kinds a things and by much better’n you are you little pipsqeak, but “Rethug” now that’s an indication of where you O’Lieberman bots are comin from.
But, you snotty nosed little diaper dandy, watch who yer callin’ “chickenhawk”…I was steppin’ in puddles a blood draggin’ litters offa helicopters before the better part of you ran down yer old man’s leg.
KEEP THE FAITH AND GET YER HEAD OUTTA YER ASS!!
I understand the guilt that make all of us nervous when things seem too easy or good, but
I want to hear when anyone mentions phrases like “Rove or Gillespies wet dream” instead of the warning that they will “cream the Dems with attacks” what precisely the talking points of attack will be. And by the way, although he doesn’t have the money, and he communicates to evangelicals “from the heart” and Huckaby knows how to play local media, Huckaby didn’t havea clue what an NIE is. There is no comparison between what Edwards, Obama or the Hill know about government and foreign policy and what Huckabee knows.
Romney has lied and flipped so many times he’ll be a dream to attack.
McCain won’t be there.
I’m gonna say this all day if I get to a thread. Bring it to me. Bring me what you think Rove or Gillespie or any of their operatives that send out the Mary Matlinesque emails with marching orders are going to use to attack Obama.
I may not be bright, but I now this. There are a gamut of attack points to use against Romney, Bush, certainly Huckabee and LOL Rudy 912, the meanest, most vindictive prick in politics who paralleled Bush’s stupidity in making hundreds of people vulnerable to death on 911 alone.
If someone comes into an ER with an emergent situation, I don’t think any one of us would pull up a chair and sit down and read a fucking children’s book to some kid in the waiting room. That is precisely what George Fuckhead Bush did when he was told that thousands of people were burning alive. He sat down and read “The Little Goat” and his FAA and Stratetic Air Command were equally stupid and unprepared. Their drills meant not a fucking thing. Jim Bamford’s book details how bad they were, and most Americans don’t have a clue.
I would attack the “we’ll keep you safe” shit with relish. And that’s just for openers. With more time I could quickly amass a list of attack points for any candidate, Bush, and especially that chickenshit Rove who is in contempt of a contemptable gutless Congress who haven’t moved his contempt citation to the floor because they’re gutless and stupid.
What Rove and Gillespie would pay to do is to fuck with the current spineless Democratic Congress–suckers like Jello Jay, Feinstein, Leahy, and all of Senate Judiciary but Kennedy and Feingold. And sure Whitehouse is very bright and a former US Attorney, but he’s been voting with Bush and Addington lately.
