Before the mass-migration to the next thread, I just wanted to say that I think this is an achingly important post, Teddy. The Cheney administration owes its continued existence to the disturbing truth that all outrages blow over with time in today’s media environment.

Consider also the Iraq Study Group. Bush gained many months of insulation by insisting that media and critics withold judgment on the Iraq war until the ISG presented its blue-ribbon findings. Once it did, he walked away from the group’s conclusions and paid no price for the hypocrisy.

The Cheney administration understands, and the Democratic leadership cowers in the face of, the deep neuropsychiatric dynamics of complacency.

Fascinating some poster defended the tape destruction as patriotic way to protect the torturers…what about defending Valerie Plame i guess outing her didn’t count. Wow. The logic is loyalty is above the law. Very across the aisle?

Before all move to a new thread, I would add, a la the Libby/Plame story, that FDL and Empty Wheel (when still @ thenexthurrah) had and have the most literate, informed, on point commentary I’ve read. Better than the comments section at Glenn Greenwald’s or TPM (both good), and far ahead of ThinkProgress or Froomkin’s WaPo blog (which are overrun by trolls). In those examples, I would highly rate the blogs themselves, just not their comments sections.
