After Huckabee blew the landing at his press conference, the Huckabus made its way over to his office nearby where a Ron Paul throng was shouting and a group of anti-war protesters had made their way into his office with signs saying "who would Jesus bomb?"
Eight members of Iowa Occupation Project and Voices for Creative Nonviolence wanted to know how Huckabee rationalized his Christian background with his support for the war in Iraq:
Eight members of the Iowa Occupation Project and Voices for Creative Nonviolence arrived at Huckabee’s Locust St. campaign office early Monday afternoon, waiting for the former Arkansas governor’s reply to a letter delivered two months ago that sought his pledge to completely withdraw from Iraq within 100 days of assuming office; halt all military actions against Iraq and Iran; fund the rebuilding of Iraq as well as health, education and infrastructure needs in the U.S.; and “…the highest quality health care, education and jobs training benefits for veterans of our country’s Armed Services.”
I guess Huckabee wasn’t much interested in giving an answer because he had them arrested.

Who would Jesus arrest?
Jesus is in jail today.
So much for all that “turn the other cheek,” and “do unto others” stuff that pours out of his pie hole…
Happy New Year, Jane and everyone!
Having them arrested? Is that how Huck plans to answer difficult questions? I understand that republicans may cackle with glee at the idea of anti-war protesters arrested, but I hope they understand that this is how Huckabee will solve difficult questions, through arrest instead of reason.
Difficult crowd? Difficult questions? Arrest ‘em and ignore ‘em. Way to go, Huckabee. Hopefully one of the republican candidates will criticize Huck’s actions today..
Why all the interest of all the candidates in one showcases the worst, most bigoted and least educated traits among a Republican slate of clear losers? All the way to Iowa to track the Huckster’s every move?
A funny world we live in when peace activists get arrested and war activists get millions of dollars.
This is certainly good for the Republicans.
Huck, your true colors are showing! Totalitarian, with a little hypocrite on the edges.
Happy New Year everyone!
Oh and funny how he pardoned a violent criminal who suppositly showed signs of repenting, yet went on to commit other violent crimes. And he has peaceful demonstrators arrested for exercising their rights.
I’ve read the linked articles and checked other places. I haven’t seen any evidence that Huckabee himself was involved in the decision to call police.
OT: Yesterday, Reza Aslan had an excellent WaPo op-ed on the chattering class’s optimism that the election of Obama would be warmly welcomed throughout the Muslim world and go a long way toward repairing the damage caused by seven years of Bush.
i for once agree with the NYT…i dont recognize America

he had them arrested.
oops, that one’s gonna leave a mark…
well maybe its the America of 1968
Well, then let’s hope he repudiates this action and requests that the protesters are released from jail immediately. I’m not going to hold my breath, however…
From Jane’s linked article:
Any candidate could very easily say, “No, officer, do not arrest these peaceful demonstrators!” or, as Marion recommends, repudiate the actions of overzealous staffers and go to the jail where they are being held to seek their immediate release.
If the call came from Huck’s office, it came from Huck. I can’t imagine the huge Huckabee campaign bureaucracy does much without the knowledge of the man atop it.
I have a hunch they’re already out, unless they’ve chosen to stay in jail as a part of their protest. I agree that Huckabee should be asked about this, and am not holding my breath.
yah,and Kerry let that poor guy be tased in Fla.these people are so outa touch
Digg this post, please!
I’m not so sure. If I was Huck, and my Monday morning was interrupted by the person in charge of the Des Moines office calling me to describe protesters, asking me “What should I do, Governor?” – I’d fire that office manager. They’re supposed to do this sort of stuff in ways that can’t be tied directly or indirectly to the candidate.
Huckaboooooo
If elected, 8 arrested in Iowa will become 8,000,000 across the U.S. Christain fascism, it’s the wave of the future.
This is probably based on the belief that he bombed the World Trade Center and went to madrassas in Indonesia so he is really one of them.
I would think getting out of Iraq and reframing from invading other Muslim countries would also be a plus, but this could be said of any of the Democratic candidates with the notable exception of Hillary.
I know: time for the DWD Beatitudes. Never posted them here.
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for they shall be called The Democratic Leadership Council
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be the stories on the evening news
Blessed are the meek: for they shall be taken advantage of
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be lied to and exploited endlessly through a series of us against them schemes to enrich Republican coffers.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain extreme rendition
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall be sullied beyond salvation
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan without proper equipment.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for they shall find Gitmo and Echelon and the joys of the CIA
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake for my people will kick their ass (If they are brown and all)
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: you didn’t think we would share here, did you?
America is really easy to recognize if you know it’s history. It’s merely a rerun of the robber barons and the Gilded Age.
And therein lies the problem. I have had enough of “plausable deniability”, “rogue staffer” and/or “one bad apple.” We need to make them all responsible for the people who represent them. And I’m not just talking about in campaigns.
I wonder why they would put a Huckabee Campaign HQ on LOCUST Street in IOWA.
That’s really askin’ for a whole plague of tribulations, I suspect!
Oh, an address chosen by God!!!
When is the maiden voyage of the Huckablimp?
Thanks TSF for the Digg reminder helping us to remember how easy it is and how important on this and other fdl significan posts.
Mike Huckabee responds.
HUCKABEE
I saw those passages you put up and I’m thinkin’ well, gollllleeee, did I miss something? So I checked my bible and NONE of them’s in it. NOT ONE. So you best check back with whatever website you got them from and tell ‘em them’s all wrong.
That’s his answer.
Well, if that isn’t a foreshadow of how HuckaBeeStupid will be as president, then nothing will be!
Awesome!
What kind of police state would Jesus impose?
Maybe the huckster’ll explain himself on the horrid leno show;
“NBC’s “Tonight” show said Monday that Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee will appear on Jay Leno’s first show back Wednesday.”

Now there’s a set of beatitudes the Village can understand!
Hilarious!!! The devil must have made him do it!!
Huck doesn’t get that Jesus was a protester!!!
Love your enemies? Hmmmmm
Happy New Year to you!
Who would Jeebus drop a dime on?
Brother can you spare some handcuffs and maybe a billy club up side uh my head?
Good times.
Is America really this vicious or is it just the Republican leadership?
I have a couple of acquaintances who are Republican. Recently they’ve been talking about jail time and violence and guns. I’m guessing there is some kind of backdoor discussion going on among Republicans. This kind of violent behavior is often approved by the Republican electorate. It shows toughness and strong belief in your principles and a crazed willingness to do absolutely anything.
Remember how Reagan seemed half-loony about maybe starting an attack on the Soviet Union. Republicans didn’t chastise him for it. They thought he was wunnerful.
Now we’ve got the truly abnormal Bush and his supporters, though few, are incredibly supportive. They believe everything hook, line and sinker.
I certainly hope the “hook, line and sinker” group is and remains < 30%.</p>
[The audience members at the back of the crowd are having trouble hearing the Sermon on the Mount.]
Man: I think it was, “Blessed are the cheesemakers”!
Gregory’s wife: What’s so special about the cheesemakers?
Gregory: Well, obviously it’s not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.

What do you expect from a guy who raises his son to torture and kill dogs?
Oooh! Musta hit a nerve with Governor Huckabee. He’s pretty thin-skinned when you question his religious beliefs. Call him a phony Christian and out you go!
There were two demonstrations. One, the demonstration by Christian activists; and two, the governor’s response. Which is the more telling? I’d say the second one.
Huck’s got a problem. This doesn’t show the kind of equanimity we look for in a president. Another four years of petulant resentment at being questioned? Not an appealing prospect.
