I think she has a nice discursive style, but that’s one of the things that I don’t like about her - she seems to me to coast on her nice discursive style, and as she’s gotten reinforced for it, she’s become less and less substantive and more and more discursive.

Also there was the thing where she just didn’t know what to say when Monica asked her why she was being such a bitch about her weight, and the thing where she announced after Raines was fired that she didn’t want to write all that catty stuff, he made her do it…

She’s far too adept at being the mean girl for me to get all fuzzy when she wants to be treated with sensitivity.

Yeah, don’t we all, dear. Most of the folks being gratuitously nasty don’t write for the Times.

Let’s not forget Stalkin’ Malkin’s road trip to Baltimore, where she posed as a real estate appraiser and kitchen counter expert.

I have it on my shelf along with her other books.I’ll read more. I don’t think feminism has failed, but in a lot of areas we have a long ways to go towards giving women equilibrium and equal opportunity. She has a third coming out very soon–she always swings the perk of getting time off to write another book.

Having the managing editor as your best friend might help.

I thought Bushworld was pretty well done.

I’d buy the DVD of all her columns.

Rx:

Tapered Prednisone over about two weeks and you’ll feel like new. Starting at mg and tapering down for a few days usually does it in adults. The sooner you start, the faster it resolves.

You cannot spread it from one part of your body to the other part of your body by rubbing or touching unless you were to spread the urishol in the very first few minutes before it protein binds, but it can be spread from pets and garden tools, etc.

When I was very little, I got plastered with it–head to toe (we used to hunt golf balls in the rough and play at the course we lived near every day in the summer). The pediatrician next door (instead of using tapered Prednisone as he should have done) gave me poison ivy extract in pills which at that time was thought to immunize people–but it was never to be given when you had it in spades–it was meant to be given when you didn’t have it. Not knowing any better, I took ‘em.

I just got exponentially worse, so I feel your pain.

Good luck.

The now defunct Federal Home Loan Bank regulated and loaned to the Saving and Loan industry… not any more they are defunct… and now the big wall street banks can pick up “baskets” of S&L paper, discount and repackage as a security…something the S&L never could do. So What?
That leveraged the risk of these loans 100 fold and dried up the capital big banks need to loan and do all their creative finance that has developed in the last three decades.
Bushco appointed “regulators” ( the fox guarding the hen house) eased credit restrictions allowing for ireresponsible rampant seculation…
So What? If you teachers have a pension fund or any other for that matter invested they are now unable to cover their obligation to the pensioners.
Anyone remember Orange County California Banruptcy…yes a whole County bankrupt … the state of California may follow the seventh largest economy on the globe is down $35 billion. How many countries have gotten upside down ask Ian. Many local governments are facing shortfalls now and are cutting basic services.
The operant word “The Almighty Dollar” remember that? is not almighty any more. We are in big trouble.

LOL–

Julia– a lot of guys could do worse than marrying Modo. Maybe I’m not sophisticated to know the nuances of her love life. I know she had a thing with Hal Raines when he was editor of NYT,, Jill Abrams, now the managing editor is one her BBF’s, and I remember a soft set of pics she did in a layout for Vanity Fair three years ago or so.

I’ve always gotten some grins from her columns–she does have a wide frame of references that indicate she’s pretty well read and I’ve always thought she was witty. It gave me new respect for the English major at Catholic University. I’d like to have her life’s reading list, and I think she absolutely nails and skewers the Bushies which is one reason Poppy threatened to throw her out of the Presidential Plane at 25,000 a few years ago (like the scene in The Good Shepherd)

Julia, Enjoy!

Damn, the itch I’ve got is Poison Ivy or Poison Oak! It is almost as miserable as the Right Wing Crap we had to endure the e4ntire year! Actually, the Itch is worse! Didn’t think I could get that in CA. Have such an infection that I’ll have to either go to the Doctor Monday or the ER before that.
