snark

This makes Pakistan the new front in the War on Terror. George Boosh can move all our forces out of Iraq into Pakistan.

/snark.

Maybe Dubya knows/realizes the Iraq war is going to end and he still wants to execute the Republican policy of bankrupting America and tying up our efforts in something military for decades to come, so he’s just beginning a new war for the next president, presumably a Democrat, to deal with.

Welcome welcome, here’s the flaming bag of shit on the front doorstep. Won’t you please stamp out the fire?

In Pakistan, billions are missing, US troops are going in, the dictator’s opposition is murdered or quelled, all the dots connect and point like a big neon sign right back to George W. Bush.

Who assassinated her is almost irrelevant; this worldwide increase in the level of violence and mayhem goes right to the doorstep of the White House.

If our congress does not do something NOW to try to start to salvage something from this bushCo adventure in insanity, the only thing that our election will decide is, which democratic candidate will climb on the uncontrollable hellbound train.

On the other hand if this keeps up (and it looks like it will) it might be that the best thing the democrats CAN do, is nominate Clinton, to greatly enhance the chances that the assholes who started all this, will be in office when the rest of the “mission accomplished” carnivorous chickens head for their white house roost.

You expected anything else? I like the fact CNN duplicated the first two grafs in the Bush reax story. Way to pay attention there!

Her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was Pakistan’s first popularly elected prime mister. He was executed in 1979 after being deposed in a military coup.

Bhutto became the first female prime minister in the Muslim world when she was elected in 1988 at the age of 35. She was deposed in 1990, re-elected in 1993, and ousted again in 1996 amid charges of corruption and mismanagement.

She said the charges were politically motivated but in 1999 chose to stay in exile rather than face them. Both of her brothers died in mysterious circumstances and she had said al-Qaida assassins tried to kill her several times in the 1990s.

per MSNBC

Sounds like there goes the family - until the next generation comes of age.

The Haaretz article makes an interesting point.

The most astounding aspect of Thursday’s events is the negligence displayed by Bhutto’s security detail. According to reports, the assassin managed to approach Bhutto and position himself within a short distance of her, before proceeding to shoot her and detonate the explosives with which he was strapped.

The assassin actually got to within a “short distance” of her while carrying a rifle?

In fact, it remind me of the assassination of Ahmed Shah Massoud, the Lion of the Panjir Valley, by Al Qaeda agents on September 9, 2001, just two days prior to 9/11.

if Musharraf had been killed, I’d really agree with you

Until Adam Sandler was presented to us as a dramatic actor, I hadn’t thought anything could have exceeded the conspiracy against my brain (to use a phrase of Nabokov’s) that is the Tom Hanks phenomenon.

Archduke Ferdinand: But there are fewer formal alliances here than in Iran. Russia’s and China’s support of Iran (and Russia’s offer of nuclear support) I think put a major damper on US bombing there. For Pakistan, I think we have the opposite. India (and Russia?) would be happy with a change there making the likelihood of a US intervenion much stronger, esp if US wants to claim they have Osama.
