Over at Daily Kos there’s a great diary called “Elizabeth Edwards is my hero.” And here’s what I learned tonight:

While she was in Portland Elizabeth told us the real story of the $400 haircut. Someone remarked that John had great hair and Elizabeth laughed, “it doesn’t start out that way!” She told us that John knew he needed a haircut and had made arrangements for a well regarded local stylist to meet him at the airport at the end of a long day of campaigning. Being John, of course, he was running late, and he kept the stylist waiting for several hours.

When he finally arrived and got his hair cut, he told the stylist to send him a bill that included the waiting time in addition to the cut. Even taxi drivers get paid for their waiting time, after all! The stylist mistakenly sent the bill to the campaign and the campaign mistakenly paid it (the Edwardses reimbursed for it as soon as the mistake was noticed).

My God, all that crap for a generous tip and recognition of working people’s waiting time!!!

“When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again,” for John McCain, with background scenes from Stalag 17. (That’s my advice as a campaign advisor. Personally, I hope he doesn’t use it, ’cause I hope he doesn’t succeed, much as I fear that he might.)

Since everyone wants YouTube links, here’s Volunteers, and here’s Everybody Knows with an intro. Song starts at 1:50.

The Rufus Wainwright version would be a great song for Edwards to look at. The Dixie Chicks do a song called Everybody Knows, but it’s not the Leonard Cohen song.

Since he’s surrounded by so many crooked associates, “Woke Up This Morning” (Theme from The Sopranos) is the perfect fit for Guiliani.

Obama: Changes - Tupac

http://youtube.com/watch?v=xh7tjW_bSz8

Hill: Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

http://youtube.com/watch?v=lKg4g9zMeHI

Is the Changes Tupac did a cover of David Bowie’s Changes?

Stairway to Heaven is great… “and she’s buyyyying the Stairway to Heaven…”

—-

Sorry I don’t have any youtube links, but here are a few suggestions.

For some candidates who shall remain unnamed there is the Eurythmics

Would I Lie

—-

For Tom Tancredo and a few others there is The Pretenders’

Stop Your Sobbing

——-

For John Edwards maybe James Taylor’s

Shower The People (you love with love)

or John Lennon’s

Power to the People

or Carole King or James Taylor’s

You’ve got a Friend

————

For Obama there is Prince’s

Baby I’m a Star

LOL. I just said recently that Billy Joel should do an updated version of “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” but I guess JibJab beat him to it. Good job!

An all Talking Heads line-up for the Republican side:

Slippery People
Blind
Psycho Killer
Swamp
Road to Nowhere
Life During Wartime

Not sure which song should go to which candidate — so many permutations possible. And in the end, I’d hate for them to have anything that danceable.

For Clinton: Girlfriend is Better
For Obama: Burning Down the House
