Pope Benny is sounding very alarmist and hysterical about the state of the planet this holiday Christmas season.
On the day Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ some 2,000 years ago, Benedict referred to one early father of the church, Gregory of Nyssa, a bishop in what is now Turkey. “What would he say if he could see the state of the world today, through the abuse of energy and its selfish and reckless exploitation?” the pope asked, according to the Vatican’s English translation.
Obviously, Benny missed that part in the bible where God tells us to "rape" the Earth. But I wonder if this gives the supposedly devout Catholic and "proud" polluter Sean Hannity the slightest bit of cognitive dissonance.
Nah.
PS.
No, there is no connection between Scrooged and the Pope, though he does look a little like the John Forsythe character.

Full of it. They’re all full of it.
Oh now he wants on the Al Gore bandwagon.
Here’s a station from New Jersey playing some good seasonal stuff;

Yeah, Benny’s trying to up his street creed with Hollywood so he gets a flattering MOW bio.
Ah yes, the gospel according to James Watt.
It is a beautiful day here, sun shining. Best kind of winter day ever. Peace and love to everyone.
It’s not easy being green.
I disagree with the Catholic Church on most things, but I have a sneaking admiration for them. As an institution they have an amazing talent for self-preservation.
Anyone remember when the last Pope (J2P2) went nuts and said women were going all pagan, worshiping nature and such? That was funny.
It won’t stop snowing here. Local tv dude just revised the 1-2″ they initially predicted up to 11″ for the metro area. We’ve already got 4-5″. I wouldn’t mind but I’ve got to work tomorrow.
Indeed, but a lot of that is thanks to Luther, as a smart priest once told me.
Total aside, the priest at church this AM complained loudly about all the “phony Christians” in the presidential race, how it was appalling that we had a “religious test” for the presidency, and how he’d rather have a “humanistic pagan” as president than these losers.
Heh.
That’s nice to hear, BT. There are plenty of the False Christians bandying their pretend piety about. It is always nice to see the true believers call them on it. Pick and choose religiosity is quite offensive.

Plan would let seniors work to pay taxes (AP)

AP – Audrey Davison lives alone, gets a $620 Social Security check each month and worries about the sharply rising taxes on her four-bedroom house. Davison, 76, raised her family there and after 43 years, she really doesn’t want to leave Greenburgh.
Once you reach adulthood, most “religiosity” or at least religious practice has an element of pick & choose.
BlueTexan, email me if you’d like your name added to the mailing list for Central Texas Firepup Get-Togethers. Next one is in Austin in January.
I have to admit, this to me is a little bizzare, I remember reading just a few weeks ago that the pope said global warming was alarmist
will try to find the link
Speaking of false Christians and religiosity, Driftglass has an outstanding takedown of Osteen on the Sunday morning bobble-head “news” shows:

To the extent of Huckabee the other Old Testament Republicans? I had always been taught religion was an all or nothing proposition. Believe it or not I was raised in a very devout household. Perhaps we can have that discussion sometime.
btw, I saw where the Pope claimed Global Warming proponents were not credible.
Faith and Politics: Rules of the Game
via The Smirking Chimp – News And Commentary from the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy by Ira Chernus on 12/25/07
At the Republican CNN/YouTube debate in Iowa, Joseph from Dallas appeared on the screen, staring the candidates right in the eye. “How you answer this question will tell us everything we need to know about you,” he solemnly warned them. “Do you believe every word of this book? Specifically, this book that I am holding in my hand.” The book, of course, was the Bible.
What’s wrong with this picture? Yes, it brings religion front and center into the political arena. But so did the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and hundreds of other ministers of the Gospel. Without them there could have been no civil rights movement. So I doubt we want to say that it’s always wrong to mix faith and politics.
here ya go
now when I read that I was surely disappointed because the pope embraces evolution, and as myself, he does not find any contradiction, that evolution can easily be described as god’s tool for creation, just as the son might be gods’ tool when he created the light
so finding out that he thought global warming was fear mongering was bothersome.
now,
There is also this on the Pope’s criticism of global warming:

Yeah, Benny has some consistency problems — though he’s also supposedly the first pope to speak up for animal rights (wtf?).
But it would be great to quote the above article to Hannity and say, “Do you agree with the Pope? Yes or no? Yes or no?! Answer the question or I’ll cut your mike.”
TexBetsy, would love to. Email is bluetexanmailATgmailDOTcom.
Hypocrisy is not unique to religion, it is just heavily concentrated there.

That’s not what Benny said. It’s what a right-wing Website said he said. What he said was:
He’s not saying that global warming isn’t real; he’s saying that we should not let ourselves get stampeded. This is always good advice in any situation. Saying that he doesn’t believe in global warming is what is now called “spin”. When I was growing up in Kansas, we called it “lying”.
Clarity of expression does not seem to be a high Catholic priority. Perhaps it reads better in Latin?
Blue Texan, now that you mention the 2000 year old age of
Li`l Jesse, can you please tell me how anyone knows the age
when he was born? I really want to know, but since some man
wrote that same message long long ago, I just can not ask
him…Oh, and I do not read the bible because this is where
that man wrote it.
