Today, it’ chilly and gloomy in Upstate New York – I know out in the west, the lake effect snows are a major factor, but here in the Southern Tier, we lost most of our snow this week with rain and warm temps. I plan to spend today with a bit of baking and undoubtedly, some movies…

True Story: Mom got drunk yesterday and took too many pills. I called the paramedics. They asked her some questions in order to determine her lucidity. Name, address and who the president is. All questions were answered correctly, albeit with slurred speech: Jane Smith, 123 Chestnut Lane, and that m*therf*cker George Bush!

The paramedic said that one counted for extra credit!

Sharing a Christmas Day project with you: we’re going around the house and filling up our empty Christmas gift bags with things we no longer use that are too good to just throw away. By week’s end, we hope to have a car trunk-load of items for a local charity’s thrift shop.

And the foods we didn’t use [cans or dry goods] for our Christmas Eve dinner we are bagging up for the local food pantry. Many refugee immigrants are making Fargo a destination city these days, and we welcome them.

Caring thoughts this morning to victims and families of the Nepalese bridge collapse en route to religious ceremonies. We are all God’s children.

It’s snowing like a mofo here, and has been since at least 4a.m. So much for “light snow showers”. A good excuse to do nothing.

I hope she’s ok. They asked me the same questions when I was concussed after wrecking my bike earlier this year. I gave about the same answer. The ER nurse said they get that response a lot.

It actually WAS freezing in San Antonio this AM. At 7:30AM it was 32 degrees per the Weather Channel.

Same here in Phoenix… frost just melted off the roofs and thankfully the public broadcasting station is playing Christmas carols showing a nice crackly fireplace.

Our nephew (7yrs) got to open two gifts last night but of course wanted to open the rest and moped the rest of the evening in anticipation. His brother(2) just bounced off walls and chased kittehs under the tree.
Two standard poodle pups in pet store reminded me that I was just a short trip away from the lake. A quick search found firepup photos of Jane, TRex
and other pups from ykos and a california meetup. Finding the pix was an unexpected gift. You can hide things from me in plain sight.
May all pup wishes come true today and in the new year ahead.

Small wonder, eh Pete. Mom’s ok. She’s 67, looks like 85. When my dad got paralyzed, she left him after a couple of years. At 45, she married Bernie, whom she met at AA. They divorced quickly, she went back to AA and married another creep and divorced him after 10 years. Each time they’d quit AA and start drinking. Once, mom was in a thirty-day treatment program. That kept her straight for about a year. You can’t get that kind of help anymore. The republicans took it all away. Mom got a 50 year old boyfriend last year – he’s gone to prison. Another alcoholic, of course. He’d get drunk and stoned on pills and take off in her car (with no DL, of course). Thanks Pete and BSRH and everyone.
