I tell you this – if a person of another faith get offended, I say the same thing to people like O’Reilly and El Porko Grande – Get over yourselves. Think of it as a generic holiday greeting. Happy Ramadan. Whatever. A friend of mine wrote a great song called “Happy ChristaHanuKwanzaa to You.” He gave it a full Brian Setzer treatment and it’s great.

I me, for Pete’s sake, WHO CARES? Get over it. It’s just good wishes. I wouldn’t expect (nor desire) “Merry Christmas” in Damascus or Riyadh, and I just don’t care. People just need to get over themselves. Geez.

Agreed. I’m pretty much “soft atheist,” but when I’m at my mother-in-law’s farm in N. rural Alabama, I bow my head when they say “grace,” and likewise during the invocations at the high school hoops games (which, LOL, often tuen into lame-assed bible-pounding sermons — prompting even the locals to fidget and roll their eyes). A lot of this “war on Christmas” shit is just so much bullshit argument in search of an issue. Lotta peeps don’t know where to pick their fights.

My unchurched secularism notwithstanding, I am the manager of this project, which I paid to have re-issued simply because it’s such fine work.

I think the issue with “Merry Christmas” is not with us atheists, who long ago grew out of any thoughts about religion one way or another. I don’t mind it either. No. I think the problem is with people of non-Christian religions who might be offended. And then there’s that perfectly reasonable substitute “Happy Holidays”. It’s not even awkward like saying she or he.

Speaking of forgotten tunes coming up in the mix at an odd time, last night it shuffled to Jethro Tull’s “Ring Out, Solstice Bells.” Wasn’t quite Solstice, but damn close enough!

Joyeux Noel. We have a 7 y.o in the house, so I’m in the spirit! It’s a tough balancing act between the joys of childhood and the rampant consumption of the real world, but we must teach them (her) well.

I’d like to ask a question: Is ANYONE here actually offended by “Merry Christmas”? I’m an atheist and I’m not. I can’t be arsed to be bothered by a lot more offensive shit than that.

I just don’t want it crammed down people’s throats in government buildings. Religion does not belong in government, and that’s all. The rest of it, nativity displays in people’s yards, stuff like that, who the fuck cares? I have more to be worried about than that shit and these sniveling CRETINS like O’Reilly, El Porko Grande and Charlie Daniels can kiss my rosy red ass in Santa’s sleigh.
