MarkH, if we are smart enough to nominate a candidate who will get up on HIS hind legs (caps intentional; Hillary Clinton does NOT make the cut.) in the general, and who will read the fucking riot act about ALL of the shit which the the bloggers like Jane and Christy, etc, are doing such a great job of keeping front and center, then, friend, there won’t be enough goopers in congress TO fight tooth and nail.

The shit is just piling up daily; things like Jamie Jones’ allegations; SERIOUS allegations of being roofied and gangraped by Halliburton/KBR firefighters, with the other women starting to come forward…

The destruction of the torture tapes…

Bush’s absolute TAUNTING of congress, today…

I promise you, guys. It’s all hanging by a thread, and we can help break it. And it won’t be pretty when it goes, and it won’t be “bi-partisan”, but why SHOULD it be; we can force these people to their political knees, and

Christ, I can’t even remember them all.

I know the democratic candidates don’t want to use up all their “ammo” before the general, but they needn’t worry; there will be PLENTY more coming down the pike. Time for those press-conferences with Jones and the other women, dear candidates, and for an insistence on a REAL investigation into the destruction of the torture tapes. And for putting Iraq and all of it’s sick, insane, spin-offs, squarely on the table, for the american people to make a decision as to who is responsible, and for how we salvage something relatively humane and intelligent, out of it.

The question of whether a Republican candidate supports Bush or doesn’t is pretty fundamental and important for America. If the one who supports Bush can get the nomination it means the electorate is still crazy and can’t make good decisions. It would probably be very good for Dems in the ‘08 election, but it doesn’t bode well for the following four years. Too many in Congress would still feel the urge to fight a Dem president tooth and nail.

If the Repub candidate who distances himself from Bush is made the party’s nominee, then it means the electorate is one step closer to sanity. That would be better for the country and for the next president, regardless of party.

I’d prefer the latter, even if it was going to make the general election tougher. I think we can still win handily (providing not too much election fraud) and govern with less dissent.

… [Dems would] raise the taxes of the rich. His usual reply is that that would prevent the rich from developing the capital to create the companies to create the jobs and the money formations that we need for financing, etc. etc. etc. … He thinks Keynesian economic theory is passe’,

If it were true that the supply of capital which funded the creation of new companies was only coming from the wealthy, then he could be right. But, today the number of small investors who provide capital makes that relatively moot. Small investors today includes people who invest in mutual funds and retirement funds and together create a mind-bogglingly large capital base. The wealth controlled by the Rich isn’t any different in terms of how it’s used. It’s just controlled by a smaller number of individuals (and families).

So, the availability of capital is very significant for capital formation. But, the stated necessity for that wealth to be in the hands of a few, rather than the many, is a flawed argument, if not completely wrong.

On the other hand, the problem with wealth being focused in the hands of a few is more manifest. It allows a few to control our entire Society in ways the founders of this great republic never imagined or wanted. It turns our society into their plaything and the rest of us into near slaves. Look at the take-over of the mainstream media for one of the clearest and most powerful examples. Look at how the Rich (including corporations) use lobbying to subvert the political system. Look at how the stripping away of wealth from the working class of America leaves them vulnerable to the slightest breeze in the economy. This is not the indication of a wealthy people. And, it leaves everyone vulnerable to the weakest among us. Look how we’ll suffer if some people lose their homes in this mortgage crisis. Do you think companies going bankrupt as a result isn’t related to the working class living on the edge (financially)? It’s a direct connection. Give the worker more money, he’ll pay his mortgage and there would be no crisis resulting in corporate bankruptcies and the resultant job losses there.

A truly strong economy would be one where no link is so weak that real estate prices in Tokyo could devastate us. A truly strong economy would be one where no link is so weak that some conmen running S&Ls could devastate us. A truly strong economy would be one where no link is so weak that some market manipulators could destory us all.

As with Republican political divisiveness there are economic vultures devouring us and not worrying about the effect on the whole society.

Our working class has been pushed to the edge intentionally. As they say, the only purpose of the modern corporation is to make money. It has no social conscience.

In government, Republicans are to blame. Now they must step aside and let some Democrats try to fix problems — before we are all pushed off into the abyss of another Great Depression for the amusement of a handful of Rich bastards who can’t control themselves.

To what extent might our retirement plans have invested in these “instruments”?
reply

Nobody knows. It’s like asking whether your bank or your mutual fund or your state retirement fund is invested in some particular stock. I suppose the only sure way would be to ask. Perhaps if you had a fund which only invested in bonds or only invested in stocks, then something like this ‘paper’ wouldn’t be part of their portfolio.

But, you can’t just guess with any certainty.

met a woman on the checkout line bragging about voting twice for chimp…everybody else on line was mocking her….ahhhhhh the diehards…too dumb to live

I had a similar experience watching a nutty woman talking loudly about Bush in the post office. There had to be about 15-20 people watching and they all ignored her. I was angry and at the same time felt sorry for her mental condition.

Curiously, if it’s true that there is really only about 1:9 or 1:19 who favors Bush, then he should’ve lost reelection by about 10:90 or 5:95 percent.

One has to wonder about our elections.

Guys!

This is what I mean when I say that the goopers are up shit creek. Can you imagine what Edwards or Obama will do with the kind of demented bullshit that Romney is so frantically spouting off?

I will guaranTEE you that someone on John Edwards’ campaign staff has carved into stone, for the general, that quote of Romney demanding an apology from Huck for his speaking a precious few REPUBLICAN words of truth about george bush’s bloody-handed retreat into fantasy-land, just in case the GOP sacrificial lamb turns out to be Romney. :o)

Bush is crazy. The level of denial in the white house is waaayyy past Nixonian. They-are-fucking-nuts…and the only way their insanity can be vetted and sustained, is if other people become crazy with them.

Which Mitt Romney has just shown his willingness to do. :o)

(No smileface big enough…)

Clinton actually had people on welfare working themselves off welfare in two years. How? Because the economy was good (gas was low, food prices were low, and it didn’t cost $1 million for a 1 bedroom home with a 1/2 bath) and jobs were available. When companies have to pay their taxes when the big bad Democrats tell them to, they wake the hell up!

They never act like ‘responsible fathers’ when a republican is in charge of our nation.

With George Bush & his neocons in charge, the top 5% of the country who own businesses aren’t expanding, paying their fair share of the taxes, and good paying jobs are pretty much non-existent…all of which is hurting the poor and middle class. But that’s okay! The top 5% is all set. Spit.
