I saw her getting testy yesterday.
Something like It means what it means and I’m not going to comment about that.
She reminded me of an overworked, cranky mommy berating her children.
But, she’s so young and naive it doesn’t work for her. So, not only do we get no truth from her, there’s that psychological contradiction too.

It’s not important, but the lead paragraph in the post is repeated.

You know, if journalists would just admit that Dana is the face of the lying administration and that it is her job to mislead everybody, then we could all get along.

But that would mean that the WH press corpse would have to do some leg work of their own to find the other side of the she said/he said that they are duly required to write.

No one in the gop believes the merino says anything true, why would she worry about anything if she works for a serial killer? We can’t expect someone so callous to have feelings, they simply wouldn’t work for the killers. Or is it a mob thing? can’t quit without expecting problems? Sort of like religion? leave the one you are in and you know you are going to hell. Reputation? that is hilarious, a spokes liar, what kind of reputation would you prefer vs. the one you have?
when will stupidity be treated like the plague instead of embraced?

MS. PERINO: If you want to defend The New York Times, then you might look at it that way. I’m looking at it from anybody White House —

PERINO: I think anyone — and believe me, the people that I’ve talked to, the reading of it — when I first looked at it, I felt that that was saying that I had misled the American public on this, and I have not. There is nothing I have said that has been contradictory. And there is a preliminary inquiry being led by Attorney General Mukasey and General Hayden, and it is appropriate to let that play out.

Under our Constitution the press is free to speculate as much as they want, and they can report on as many former administration officials or unnamed current officials that they want to, that contradict each other throughout this story. I’m not allowed to do that. I am an employee of the federal government. I respect the request from the White House Counsel’s Office that we not comment from this podium, and I have not. And for someone to imply that I had is offensive.

Q Well, you’re the one (inaudible) implication. You’re the one who said —

Q You’re the one who’s drawing the implication. Would you have been happy if the subhead had read, “White House role was lighter than previously understood”?

MS. PERINO: I have not — what it says is that I had changed my story, and I have not.

Q But that’s very difficult to judge when you won’t give us the facts.

MS. PERINO: I respect the fact that Attorney General Mukasey has asked for a preliminary inquiry, that he’s working with CIA General Counsel on, as well as General Hayden. Our White House Counsel is supporting that. And CBS News is free to speculate as much as it wants, but I’m not going to do that. And I haven’t done it in the past.

Q Okay. Okay, but you’re defining it that way. In fact, right after the first — this story first broke, people within the administration did say privately that, in fact, Harriet Miers had told the CIA not to destroy the tapes and that that suggested that the White House, in fact, was saying don’t destroy. Now this New York Times story is saying four people in the President — or Vice President’s inner circle actually talked to the CIA about it. So that does suggest a wider role.

MS. PERINO: I am not accountable for all the anonymous sources that you turn up. I’m not. I am accountable — I speak for the President and the White House. This says that I was misleading, and I was not.

Q It doesn’t say you. It doesn’t say you at all. And there were other people in the administration who —

MS. PERINO: The White House does not comment. The only thing that I have said from this podium is regarding to the President and his recollection. And if CNN has different information that they want to provide to me that contradicts what I’ve said, you know, let’s see it.

I found it fascinating listening to her on NPR’s “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”. Not the Cuban Missile idiocy, but when she’s asked about her tough week and all of the sudden her perky cheerful persona turns to ice after being asked her encounter with Helen Thomas the previous week. Don’t mess with this woman’s talking points.

Q One last on that. Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra is not satisfied and saying he’d be onboard with subpoenas — they may be voted on in the House Intelligence Committee as early as today. Would the White House comply with subpoenas if they come up in the CIA tapes case? Or would you, like you’ve done in other cases, not want to comply with them?

Perino graduated from the University of Southern Colorado (now known as Colorado State University-Pueblo) in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and minors in both political science and Spanish. While attending the university, Perino was active on the debate team and with KTSC-TV, the campus-based Rocky Mountain PBS affiliate where she served as host of Capitol Journal, a weekly summary of Colorado politics, and producer of Standoff, a weekly public affairs program. From there, Perino attended graduate school at the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS). Ari had neither conscience nor scruples so he had no problems lying. Since he was also a truel believer, it was no problem across the board.

Dana is a True Believer so has no problems lying. But since she’s also shown that she’s rather lacking in the brains/knowledge of the world, she can’t do it as convincingly as Ari could.

And just why hasn’t Attorney General Mukasey RECUSED himself? As JUDGE Mukasey he issued the warrants to seach the residence and computers of Jose Padilla, based principally on the torture interrogation of Abu Zubayah. So he was either assured by the DOJ that Zubaydah’s interrogation wasn’t under duress (in which case he was lied to); OR he knowingly approved the water-boarding.

In either case he’s involved very deeply with the case…and possibly criminally involved. Plus he may have LIED to Congress about not making any judgments regarding water boarding if he was aware of the methods of interrogation.

If the latter he should step down from the AG position.

I disagree here. I don’t consider Ari a liar. But I think he’s VERY good at not telling the truth. Look at how he handled the Libby case. Most lawyers can trip witnesses up on cross-examination. With Ari, they never even came close. And I’m convinced that there was SOMETHING they were trying to pry out of him, and he simply tap-danced his way out of it.

I disagree on this, too. I think that was an honest difference in recollections. Ari testified that he told the press guys MORE information than they remembered receiving, not less. The most likely scenario, in my mind, is that he was using typical Ari-speak, and the reporters either had no idea what he was trying to say, or they were just ignoring him completely.

I can just see behind the doors of the WH, the nasties laughing at another sucker they sent out to the arena to get face smacked and play the stupid fool. Poor Dana. After reviewing all the other selectees at the podium in the WH press room, you’d think she would have turned that job down. But nnnnooooooo, this time it’s going to be different. Hah!

Edwards was leading in Tuesday’s Insider Advantage/Majority Opinion Poll. Edwards also leads in the all important 2nd choice candidate. Barring any unforeseen mis-steps in the next few weeks, I believe Edwards will win Iowa. The question will be, can he gain enough momentum from that win. I certainly hope so.

You know, I just moved back to the States after living much of the last decade in Central America, primarily Costa Rica.

For a dyed in the wool liberal like myself, cruising through a blog site like Firedog Lake is fun, and to some extent reassuring. It reinforces for me two things.

One is that there are others out there who think like me, sort of.

The other is I realize, despite all the buzz about the power of the blogosphere, just how powerless we peons really are in the face of a bipartisan political class in this country that, despite all the superficial differences the class’s members claim exist between them, shares a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

Hillary doesn’t want change. She’s a phony thru and thru.

If Hillary were a working or middle class woman who put up with the abuse and humiliation big Bubba heaped on her, the mental health and social work professions, especially many women in those professions, would be labeling Hillary as “codependent”, “lacking in self esteem”, or some other PC psycho babble diagnosis that is so popular these days.

But instead, Hillary, just because she’s a woman, as codependent and lacking in self esteem as she is, – arrogance and entitlement, by the way do not add up to self esteem and self respect-, is being held up by many as a role model for younger women to look up to.

I don’t think so folks!

This country, as Keith Olbermann so aptly pointed out in his interview with Bill Moyers, is in a state of emergency.

All the pithy, clever comments slamming Bush aren’t going to do the proverbial pee hole in the snow’s worth of any good to turn this country around.

The entire political class of this country is corrupt.

Until people, of all political persuasions, begin to accept that reality, nothing is going to change.

When I decided to come back this year, I really thought there was going to be an opportunity to help bring about real change.

but the more I watch, the more I realize the rainforest might just be where I really belong.

At least there, you know who the real snakes are – be they reptilian or human.

Among America’s bipartisan political class today, it’s all but impossible to tell who the snakes are..

Olbermann for President!

That’s why I suggested in Christy’s thread on the economy that the Dems come together and form a unified, informed party policy that will really address issues with solutions:

I recommended the Dems come up with a party platform to run on that was problem-solving centered. For example, meet with Gore and come up with an environmental/sustainable/energy policy-plan and that no matter who ends up the candidate, “that group formed policy” would go on to serve the country.

I suggested they meet with the Concord Coalition to form an economic policy and to start working on it as a group before the election because of how bad things are going to be soon.

Crazy. Maybe. Novel? Workable? Yes! It would rally my vote ASAP to actually see the Dem candidates roll up their sleeves and start serving our country as leaders NOW instead of talking about it on the campaign trail.The actions of preservation would echo across the country.

I know, a pipe dream…Unfortunately, it’s going to take a pipe dream to fix and preserve our nation.

When I first glanced at your comment, I saw ‘empty weasel’ instead of ‘empty vessel’. Both are appropriate.

I am intrigued to know who coined the “Pig Missle” moniker? It always gets my attention when coffee comes shooting out my nose.
