We have seen, in my opinion, dramatic fearmongering. Many individuals, particularly on partisan blogs, are spreading misleading and malicious information in order to incite fear of alleged governmental activities. This bill should not include text which panders to people who believe in imaginary government conspiracies.
Who’s writing his speeches, Joe Klein?
Anyway, for that moment alone we owe Chris Dodd an immense debt of gratitude.
You can say thanks here.

Huckabee and hatch..must be trash day.
And for being a stand up person.
Any day you get see Orrin’s head explode is a great day. Hats off to Sen Dodd.
That was the best part of all of yesterday, especially all of his fearmongering about AQ that followed.
Be afraid! Be verrry afraid!
Senator Dodd is a class act. It’s too bad the MSM can’t be bothered even to report on his campaign; most of the bottom feeders I know have never even heard of him.
Thank you Chris Dodd for standing up for our Constitution!
Extra bonus points for the Hatch outburst.
Why does Orrin Hatch, Bush et al have an irrational fear of oversight?
I thought is was the repugs that have an irrational fear of government.
He may not have Hatched but he’s still an egghead.
Chris Dodd said this morning on Thom Hartmans show this morning that over 600,000 phone calls, emails and faxes received into the Senate regarding Telecom Immunity.
Wow 600K
Thank you Senator Dodd!!!
Thank you Jane for posting this…I’m going to get some popcorn!!! Love it.
Thank you Jane for providing this invaluable resource known as FDL.
If people power starts to be the driving force in the ‘08 campaign, this FISA win could be the starting point.
Amen.
I love Hatch’s body language!!!
I’ll be so happy when immoral fucks like Hatch leave — or better, are booted out of — office. So sick of these eternal, unrepentant liars.
Meanwhile, please consider donating to Dodd’s campaign. Why should Ron Paul get all the dough? Maybe we can help Dodd break Paul’s record. I just sent him $100 and I feel good! Like maybe there’s hope in these horrible times after his stunning work on the FISA bill nightmare! I know it’s temporary, and fraught with peril ahead thanks to ethics-free Dems like Reid and the loathsome Jay Rockefeller.
Thanks, Jane, for keeping your eagle eye (and ever-sharp writing) on this.
Most bottom feeders don’t realize there’s a constitutional crisis at hand.
Have you seen Gladiator where the senators are commenting that Commodus will bring the crowd death and they will love him for it? And asking each other how does a people know it’s conquered? Etc.
Hey! How those Niners doin’? What’s Britney doin’?
Are we not entertained???
For a view of what Labour has brought about in UK, many parallels to the US, read and enjoy John Pilger in The Guardian, this link was EPU’d below.
How many were tapped? ;)
Magnificent!
A Senator concerned about pandering. How novel. Thank you Sen. Hatch (Hypocrite, UT)
The only allowable text in Orrin’s book is that which panders to people who believe in imaginary government powers, like the power to disregard the fourth amendment whenever it proves bothersome.
Yeah, “there’s nothing to fear if they haven’t done anything wrong.”
Fixed it for me, hope you like?
Oh my, Senator Craig is on cspan2 now.. as gay as he could possibly be. Reminiscing about his years in the Senate choir.
Holy cow, can this be right! I thought I read about 2,500, which I thought was relatively few. But that might have been to Harry’s office specifically. But if this 600K is true, 2,500 must have been either a lie, or just out and out wrong.
Totally OfT, apologies:
Just got a call from John Edwards’ HQ, in answer to my call from yesterday, saying that Edwards has come out against retroactive telecom immunity.
P.S. didn’t I read here yesterday that former senators are allowed on the Senate floor? If that’s correct, I wonder if they’re allowed to speak?
Imaginary government conspiracies….
How about imaginary Senators, citing imaginary BS!!!
He’s delusional.
I just gave Dodd $100.
Just an aside: You can’t only blame the mainstream media for superficial “horserace” coverage of the presidential campaigns.
Salon has a featured piece by Walter Shapiro, entitled “America’s next top Democrat”, with the lede:
“With the Iowa vote nearing, Clinton, Obama and Edwards reveal sharp tonal differences, betting the farm not on policy but on political panache.”
Babs Comstock alert on Hardballs!!
OT..Some good news:
link
Again, I hope we will not get too far ahead of ourselves. This was one small win in a much larger game. We don’t want to win this battle, only to lose the war because we were so busy crowing about how we won, when the final tally is not yet on the wall.
We need to find a way to change mindsets in such a way that it changes votes! We need to focus on actual changes of heart! We need some serious publicity.
Thank You Senator Dodd,
Not only for showing us what true leadership (should) look(s) like.
Whatever meltdown Mr. Hatch has, I’d rather not focus on him, but to the future of taking back our government.
As to his and others talks yesterday about Fear, I say “Excuse Me?” We’ve been having the Fear Factor shoved down our throats for too long. The fact that so many Republicans could only chant 911 over and over and show videos of Bin Laden yesterday made me think that they are on the defensive.
We Are Not Afraid.
We Are Not Stupid and Naive.
We are paying attention and we are taking action.
PS – Thank you for the video. Nice to know we are helping.
Booby Hatch.
If his head were to explode the walls would be covered with doo-doo.
-G
Yeah, that’s much more accurate!! :)
Heard Chris Dodd this morning say “over 600,000″ and it has been repeated or replayed again by Sam Sedar just a few minutes ago.
Dodd did not specify except “the Senate”
somebody ought to send Orrin Hugh’s list.
Earth to Orrin…the constitution panders to people with irrational fear of government and it’s OK. has been for years.
Margin of error: ±24,000%.
watching that pathetic excuse for a senate last night made feel so very sick,on how vile these career liars are! fresh air ,before i puke
Kinda turns that whole “if you haven’t done anything wrong, what are you worried about” line from officials to citizens right on its ear, doesn’t it. bah!
Just gave $25 that I really don’t have to give. But it is important to support the leadership of Senator Dodd. So I gave. Let’s see if we can out-do the Ron Paul supporters.
I could have lived my entire life quite well without Orrin “Toady” Hatch in it. His career began by toadying up to the Nixon felons, on to the Reagun felons, the George the father felons, and now again the George the turd felons; absolute consistency in picking felon du jour that so called senator.
hey little boots…if ya were spying since early 2001….WHY DID YOU NOT STOP 9/11?????????????????????????????????????
Actually, Hatch does inspire fear of government, his type anyway.
Hatch – “There is such a thing as irrational
feartrust of government”.fixed it for him. I’m just that kind of helpful sorta guy.
Does anyone have a link to video from Bond’s speech? I especially loved his verbal stumbling as he took out a BlackBerry, fumbled with it for a long time, and then finally read a statement from it. Compare that to all of Dodd’s comments as the day went on where he was speaking from what he knows to be true and making many coherent points without notes.
Good gawd. Orin Hatch, Huckabee, Romney, Rudy, Bush, Cheney, Alito, Clarence Thomas, Scalia, Rice, Rumsfeld, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and the rest of the GOP, border on the bizarre.
Thanks to Dodd. Thanks to FDL. Thanks to all those who made themselves heard. Feels good to win one. Here’s to many, many more.
Is anyone having a problem with Firefox?
I am getting errors which close the browser… disabled all my add-ons
Yeah, I watched it until I couldn’t stand it anymore, then I changed the channel.
Twetty has all these lyin ass mofo’s from Huckleberry, McCain and Mitt on.
You’re seeing this while viewing FDL? I’m not. My only add-ons are google tool bar and NoScript.
why did they not stop 9/11? anybody?
And props to Dean M for merging Orrin’s meltdown with the FDL bug…pounding head and all.
If we can make one unctuous, smarmy, right-wing apologist’s head explode, then, with apologies to Lena Lamont, all our hard work ain’t been in vain for nothin’.
so much unfettered spying ,and still the buildings were hit??????????????????????????????????????????????
A more wretched hive of scum and villainy you will not find.
-G
AZMatt reporting that Reid considering postponing FISA an extra month:
http://thehill.com/leading-the…..12-18.html
Thanks Senator Dodd.
BTW, the fearmongering blogs are essentially, the PEOPLE acting as active, partcipatory citizens. As they SHOULD be, Orrin.
Hey pups, if I read Sen. Hatch correctly, he’s afraid of us being active citizens in the process of legislation. FDL keep up the sunshine!!!
My general impression of the Senator is he lives in a world of fantasy, but seems to be unaware of it.
OT: Allen Raymond who was at the center of the 2002 phone jamming operation in New Hampshire and did time has come out with a tell all book about how to rig an election. “”After 10 full years inside the GOP, 90 days among honest criminals wasn’t really any great ordeal.” AR
the more i ponder who was in charge….thaqt question will not go away
That’s so great! I feel so much better!
Bob Kerrey’s explanation about his statement about Obama flies for me.
I wish your question got asked more.
We know BushCheneyCo ignored what they were told; was what they were told based on these new powers they sought from the telecoms in early 2001?
There may be even more sinister reasons for amnestithizing the telecoms: nothing will come out in court about what they knew and when they knew it.
THANK YOU CHRIS DODD
why did they not stop 9/11? anybody?
To answer your question with another question: what has been the asserted basis for 95% of this administration’s most egregious policies, from the raping of the Constitution on down the list?
Just a coincidence, I’m sure.
Nah -> LIHOP.
too busy felonying, stealing, spying up young boys and commercial espionage to pay attention to anything like a threat to the nation; who’d do such a thing.
does anybody else wonder why they did not hear about the PLOT while all the phone companies were listening to EVERYBODY?
From your link:
Tell more truth, Russ! We can handle the truth, even if your colleagues can’t.
Maybe they didn’t talk about it on the phone?
and of course little boots’s line …hey ya covered your ass!
Still waiting to be teleported off this rock. BushCo leaving would be ok too…
When I saw the word “fearmongering” come from Hatch’s mouth, I literally couldn’t stay in my chair. What a pot calling the kettle a fearmonger.
I have 7 Oscars to Give Out–a special statue I call the Fearmonger:
My nomminees for Most Predictable Banal Boilerplate Senate Fearmongers Pushing Telcom Immunity 12/17/07
1) Jeff Sessions–Same old speech no matter where the hell he’s opening his mouth–whatever Bush Unitary Executive tool is being pushed is fine by him. Jeffy says “the government doesn’t care about your Christmas conversations.” As if Jeffy even knows what the Immunity Initiative is actually covring up.
2) John Kyle (My Candidate for Top Three Dumbest Senators)
3) Orin Hatch
Best Actor Who Blathers Inane Banal Cliches Meaning Nothing
John Warner (Far and Away) He’s been treading water for years now–Time to go home and rest. Cascade after cascade of grandiose, specious phrases “full of sound and fury signifying absolutely nothing”.
Most Disigenuous Spinner trying to cover his true intentions:
Harry Reid (Take a bow–tried to kill Dodd’s effort from the getgo, helped by superficial Barbie and Ken mentality from MSM who never understood what was going on in the Senate yesterday (and rarely does).
Media Noodnick Apt to be most befuckled by yesterday’s events:
Time’s own Joe Klien.
Maybe the 911 terrorists used Qwest exclusively…..
Is this the kind of imaginary conspiracy Hatch is talking about? If so, I’m imagining it too. Nice to get a Pearl Harbor just when you need it most.
9/11 IS their excuse for everything….that is why they didnt stop it imo
I’ll be so happy when immoral fucks like Hatch leave — or better, are booted out of — office.
You and me both. I’m geographically a constituent of his, but have voted against Mr. “18 years is long enough” every time.
I’m betting he has a much more extreme meltdown before he finally leaves. Maybe multiple meltdowns. My wife says he’s a space alien, too.
sorry to lol
I’m using Firefox and I’m not having any problems, except when the FDL computer breaks down.
I think one of the most effective torture mechanisms, far more effective than Waterboarding, would be to place a DVR and TV in front of the subject and tune it to Dana Perrino’s inane press conferences 24X7.
I wonder if Mukasey would view that as torture.
I said this yesterday and I’ll say it again. Either orrin has a shitty tailor or he’s wasting away. That suit is pretty ill fitting. Look at it. I mean so are mine – in the other direction, a little snug, ya know. But I don’t wear ‘em on the Senate floor. look where the shoulder seams are. it’s very loose.
Oh yeah. he’s an asshole, too.
EXCELLANTEMENTE!!
A Little OT but since we are discussing one Mormon how about the other one – Willard: Editor & Publisher
oh inner rot that would be poetic justice!
for WH Press Secretary-torture, I’d put Scotty McClellan up against OhDana any day…
tag team with all of them…in mud mebbe?
I have no idea why, if they were wiretapping early in the admin, they didn’t stop 9/11. Except that, just because they were wiretapping doesn’t mean they knew what to do with the information that they were getting. Or that they were targeting for the right information to stop the kind of attack we experienced. Remember, they said, “Nobody could have imagined…”
I do think this is a very good point, though.
Dana = DAD.
watching the Senate vote on C-Span right now – a question occurs to me:
Who is more consistently wrong in their voting – Clarence Thomas or Mary Landrieu?
But yeah. If that Intel Committee bill had passed yesterday, this video would been the consolation prize, I guess.
That shows two things: the incompetence of those in charge of the “unfettered spying” and the capability of those who hit the building.
“Thank you Chris Dodd for standing up for our Constitution!
Extra bonus points for the Hatch outburst.”
But was it Dodd or DiFi that was making Orrin’s head explode? (Go next door to see EW on this.)
Bob in HI
Maybe the Hatch has developed a wasting disease over these many yrs, as in wasting our time & $$$. That Scanners scene looks so much better in my mind’s eye if I imagine, well, you know.
Speaking of nutty, looney GOP Senators, this one is going to be fun to watch. Sen. Tom Coburn has asked for an investigation of Alaska Rep. Don Young’s earmarks in the 2005 Transportation bill. He’s calling for a joint house-senate special committee.
Coburn is the guy who got Ted Stevens to threaten to resign early last year. And now he’s going up against the guy who threatened to kill anyone who stands in his way.
So the nutty Dr. who says “lesbianism is so rampant in some of the Ojklamhoma schools that they’ll only let one girl go to the bathroom at a time,” is going up against Toobz and the rabid mink. Doncha love it?
“Alleged government activities”? Yes, they are alleged until we can prove them to have been illegal in a court of law. That’s why we don’t want this damn retroactive immunity sweetheart deal which protects both the Bush administration and the Telcos from facing the law of the land.
Tip: send individually addressed postcards to the Senators. Naturally, that’s cheaper than first class envelope mail, and postcards should skip the anthrax-sniffing hardware that delays regular mail to D.C. offices by several weeks.
I just thought of that. Kind of Python-esque. Orrin giving a speech and his head exploding half-way through.
That assumes that the surveillance they were doing was on terrorist suspects. I don’t think it was. Otherwise, they could have easily gotten a FISA warrant.
I dislike Mary Landrieu almost as much as I dislike FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin. One is self serving yellow dog democrat and the other is a self serving twit.
G’DAY me Teller
I am surely wondering why it is you now have found your “w”
Agreed.
very very nice indeed
“Twit.” That’s Python-esque, too.
It mysteriously re-appeared when I re-registered for the new fdl format. So sad. Must be a bloggers’ conspiracy, eh?
Well, it looks like the US was asleep at the switch in Iraq. Yahoo reporting on the fallout from the Turkish strikes into Iraq.
“Dozens of planes reportedly were involved in the incursion, which would be the largest aerial attack in years against the outlawed rebel separatist group. Other reports put the number of planes at a much smaller number.”
Wow, dozens of planes hitting inside Iraq and the US didn’t even know about it.
I bet the Iranians are taking notice. Oh, wait, maybe the US is winking and nodding and they know exactly what Turkey is up to and they are just stabbing the Kurds in the back. Bush’s have a record of doing that.
This also explains why the Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani snubbed COndi Rice today.
The US backstabs away.
-G
wafer thin.
What’s up with Bill. From Huffpo:
George H. W. Bush has responded to Bill Clinton’s claim that under President Hillary, the two ex-presidents would travel the world restoring America’s image.
Says Bill:
Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again.
Poppy says: I don’t think so.
Former President Bush wholeheartedly supports the President of the United States, including his foreign policy. He has never discussed an “around-the-world mission” with either former President Bill Clinton or Senator Clinton, nor does he think such a mission is warranted since he is proud of the role America continues to play around the world as the beacon of home for freedom and democracy.
I can hear it now
“This bill should not include text which panders to people who believe in imaginary government conspiracies.”
We agree. we don’t want to add language to the bill, we want to leave it out.
LIHOP
An even more apropos explosion from that film for our pal Orrin…
Yeah but everytime you see anyone connected to anyone running from their side (as lame as most Dems in Congress have been) doesn’t it seem hard for Obama, Edwards or the Hillster to lose to them?
uggggggggg
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..77344.html
Interesting. I’m sure Bill knew Poppy would say that. So, now the Clintons have been able to be “distanced” without “distancing” themselves from Bill’s earlier excursions with Poppy.
It looks like Babs is going to spit in Bill’s egg-nog this Christmas.
Frankly Bill, I don’t want that blubbery old crypto-fascist anywhere near US foreign policy.
Enough please.
I think Bill must be trying scuttle Hillary’s chances or something because that is just a plum stupid thing to say.
-G
Feingold on senate floor now, asking for with troop drawdown…
Good times.
The Dem President and Congress in 09 could reverse it couldn’t they?
oh poppy is senile im afraid
Orrin Hatch doesn’t get the “irrational fears” thing.
Rule #1: When Republicans accuse their opponents of something, it is about something that they’ve been doing often enough to be noticed. It’s kinda like psychological “projection.”
There’s also a certain amount of cluelessness involved. Compare this with White Americans who deny that Race is a factor in American society. But people of color can see it just as plainly as the noses on our pasty white faces.
Hatch wonders cluelessly, “Why are you afraid of us?” and doesn’t connect his last 100 votes to the erosion of our civil liberties, distortion of the balance of powers, diminution of the Bill of Rights, obstruction of justice, etc. etc. He just doesn’t get it.
Bob in HI
yes i believe so
I am going to personally thank Sen. Dodd this week in Des Moines. I have committed to caucausing for Edwards, but I am looking…..
On a side note – since it is a week before Christmas, it must be my Birthday! Thanks Jane for providing a wonderful forumn.
Why you meanie foul-mouthed fem bloggers you…for being so mean to the Bush Regime and making Hatch have to say it out loud too!
Good for you Girl Pups & Boy Pups. Love that about you people. LOL :-)
If they didn’t then, they probably will now!
hey, egregious, been to busy to tell you – LOVE your recent posts here!
LIHOP
Wasn’t Condi in that neighborhood today?
One wonders whether Mr. Cheney has escalated their feud to another level…
Have I said today that I dislike FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin? Well, I do. He is a wanker of the first order.
Feingold proposing and speaking in favor of anti-war amendment right NOW – C-Span2.
how can hatch , (and forgive me, in my mind he has always been urine hatch, can’t help it) accuse us of being partisan when we criticize democrats as often as we do repugnicans? We’re not partisan; we’re patriots!
Jane’s the best.
This is something I came across today. It is a letter from Poppy to his kids on his thoughts about the pending first Gulf War:
http://bushlibrary.tamu.edu/re…..-31-90.pdf
I wonder if they can reverse mergers and acquisitions too?
She was, and for some reason, they are making a big deal about it….she travels all over the place all the time….why the big deal?
When Dodd responded to Hatch’s whine that AT&T’s reputation might be hurt if we don’t shred the Constitution, that was the closest I’ve ever heard a Senator come to asking “Are You A MORON?” right on the Senate floor.
Best part of the day for me.
It will be too late for most of it, because by then all of the big mergers will have taken place. They can probably make a law against it, but I doubt it will be retroactive.
What a mess.
Well he is a
moronmormon.Nothing says “Thank you” like a campaign contribution…
Buying politicians is a bad policy… from anyone.
Hatch probably thought he said, “Are you a Mormon?”
She was in Kirkuk talking about how wonderfully peaceful it is there.
Just wait till it’s nut-cuttin’ time – when the Kurds and Sunni’s go to war over who gets control of Kirkuk and the rich oil fields there.
My guess is that she’s “preserving the record” that, under *this* administration, Kirkuk is at peace. It will thus be more clear to the wingers that the war to come over Kirkuk is the Dem’s fault.
jmo/ymmv
well, total mental illlness handwriting for one thing. But the biggy here is his reference to impeachment if he fails in iraq. And exactly where is that option today???
My thoughts exactly.
Byrd now up on C-Span2 in support of Feingold/Reed(Reid?) amendment.
This is one of those events that flies totally under the radar, but which will have a major impact on the ability of ordinary citizens to understand what goes on around them. It is an outrage that the notion of freedom of speech, expression, and the press has been rhetorically turned on its head to justify what amounts to corporate censorship of the free flow of information necessary to a viable constitutional republic.

Poppy Bush thinks ev’ry life is PREYSHUSH! Awwwwww….
This is perhaps one of the most dumbass things I have heard of in a long, long time! I don’t even know how to imagine anything more outrageously stupid. Never thought I’d say that regarding anything that Bill Clinton did that wasn’t sexual, but was political.
It is truly disastrous.
yea …glad we won both houses of congress last year/
It’s been going on already with ad hoc waivers, but this will certainly accelerate the process.

Hope this is right, I found it on the intertoobz; ahem:
Breithlá Sona! Go maire tú an céad!
The Federal Communications Commission, overturning a 32-year-old ban, voted Tuesday to allow broadcasters in the nation’s 20 largest media markets to also own a newspaper.
Was it 60 Minutes this week which had a piece on Kevin Martin; how he traveled to town-hall meetings around the country where people stayed till the early morning hours to tell him how vociferously they objected to such consolidation, how Congress gave him an earful and asked him to hold off, etc.?
And in the end, none of it mattered – to Kevin Martin; who did what he was always going to do anyway. Maybe his wife can get him a slot on MTP, ’cause it’s friendly, ya know, to put forward his case.
I have been watching Kevin J. Martin over the last several months as he listens to the objects of citizens to this FCC ruling. The vast majority did not want it to happen. There were hearings across the country. He simply did not care and you could tell he felt put upon to have to be there. Wanker. Tool. Asshat. I could go on.
B’orrin Orrin didn’t get the memo — he was supposed to pretend we didn’t exist! By acknowledging us, he’s forced to admit we’re a threat.
Happy Birthday Irish Jim.
I will caucus for Edwardss since I like his populist views but Dodd has become my second choice.
This is what has been troubling me the most lately: the FCC vote , FISA and everything else. These guys are going to take us down the road to ruin and their own personal financial aggrandisement to the point (and i believe to a large extent we are already there, look at the state of most government departments, losing most of their good people who quit in disgust and are deliberately replaced with incompetents so no one is minding ANY store for us) where everything is so f**ked up it will take geniuses and years to sort it all out if that’s even possible. This was a deliberate rape of our country and it’s hard to imagine coming back from it. The FCC mergers are the icing on the cake.
Happy Birthday!!
I wonder if Dodd’s new found popularity will hender Edwards? I don’t think it will hurt the two front runners.
Happy Birthday IrishJim!
And made total assholes of themselves in the process? The only thing about Bill spouting off like this that makes any sense to me is maybe he has another blockage in his veins, and this blockage goes to his brain. Maybe a little touch of Alzheimers or he got syphilis from some of his “youthful indiscretions” and now it’s eating his brain. Don’t forget what he said just a few weeks ago about being against the Iraq war “from the beginning.” Did he forget we now have video tape? Or is he getting senile?
Before I turn into a work of origami I must step away from the computer. See you guys later.
I seem to have regurgitated a duplicate comment.
*burp* – sorry.
No way this FCC ruling flew under the public radar. Thousands of people all over the country showed up at meetings to object to this. Congress pointed this out to whatsisname Martin, he blew it off and Congress LET him. I weep for my country these days, literally.
I want them all, all of them, arrested.
Weren’t about 3,800 troops supposed to be leaving Iraq right about now?
omg …i just pulled up a lung…from termite on kos

I think he’s on another mid-life crazies binge…check out his cool jeans…he’s even letting his hair grow….
I just noticed it this morning…not that I have anything against either thing…but it was weird to see him changing..especially in the middle of his wife’s campaign.
I called Hillary’s and Burrack’s campaigns and asked what the h#l@ they were doing in Iowa instead of doing the People’s business? This may hurt them as well. LEADERSHIP

If the conspiracies were imaginary, we’d just be paranoid.
‘Fear’ sounds about right, Senator.
Is there such a thing? I dunno. He does look good though.
yes darth has the worst case on record….it is caused by the heart-lung machine you can google it
I made my first and only contribution to a presidential hopeful this cycle to Dodd last night. It’s not an endorsement, but it’s a seriously felt reward, however minor, for real leadership.
Yes.
There was a lot of outrage among the few people who concern themselves about these sorts of things. The average citizen neither knows nor cares, and is sure not going to hear about it or what it means on the nightly news tv show.
Anyway, I think we agree that it totally sucks.
3,890 to be exact.
Leadership. And it was a joy to behold.
Just wanted to say i love you all. i know i’m not here often, but it makes my day when i am. you are wonderful creative thinkers and patriots and i’m sending all the best vibes your way for the holidays. May they be full of light, courage, and as much joy as is possible to contain in the face of such oppression. Sante!
HB IrishJim!
Kevin Martin is a despicable tool.
In this particular kerfuffle, it seems to be poppy that’s rational and Bill that’s not.
This is the Dodd moment I was referring to earlier:
little explanation
Also of interest to the vice president’s people may be the ticklish question of whether heart surgery itself, most notably coronary artery bypass grafting (typically referred to as cabg, or “cabbage,” surgery), has a long-term impact on cognitive function. Of late, there has been significant interest in reports that bypass patients may be at an increased risk for developing Alzheimer’s and other dementias as they age. But there are less-extreme post-op cognitive changes under investigation as well. From bypass patients and their families, you frequently hear stories of people who just didn’t feel or behave quite the same after surgery. Such personality changes are extremely common in the short term and may persist indefinitely for some, as the Cleveland Clinic notes in its literature on the subject: “Long-term deficits in mental functioning–such as an inability to process complex problems, follow directions or plan actions–also may occur, although they are often subtle. The person may express these deficits by being short-tempered or easily frustrated. He or she also may be depressed or have mood swings.”
The diagnosis in such cases is typically “pump head,” or postperfusion syndrome, a cognitive disorder that surfaces in the immediate wake of cabg surgery, possibly as a by-product of stopping a patient’s heart and running his blood through a bypass pump (a process that can, among other insults, release tiny air bubbles, fat, blood clots, and other debris into the bloodstream). Initially, pump head was thought to be temporary, with patients returning to normal within a year of surgery. In recent years, however, there has been evidence to suggest it is the improvements that are only temporary. In particular, in a 2001 article in the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers from Duke University found a cognitive decline–defined as a 20 percent drop in test scores from a patient’s presurgery performance–in 42 percent of bypass patients five years after surgery
First of all, sorry about the fact that my last post had “replying to PhysioProf @ 146″ attached. That was not meant as a reply to PhysioProf. This post is.

Teddy now yelling at the bad boys on cspan2.
I love it when Teddy yells at everyone!! Go Ted!
For the Arizona Pups: Misunderstood Repubs.
Kittykitty, I agree….I love it too, and I Love this site
I wonder if he’s getting a little antsy thinking that he may not get back into the white house after all.
and Ted’s sporting a new ‘do’ — looking very distinguished. NO MORE GIGANTIC BLANK CHECKS! You tell em Ted!
Geez, I thought he was gonna blow a gasket there for a minute!! Good on him!
Now, whiney Sessions….Wah wah wah….
It’s interesting for sure, since he jumped protesters recently…
I wonder if he is somehow “competitive” with HRC…he’s sure not being helpful.
Hillary just added her name to the amendment just now…hmmmm
you aren’t insinuating she put her finger in the wind , are you?
Dang, didn’t Mitch just say things are going swimmingly in Iraq?
depends on what the definition of swimming is.
And what you’re swimming in.

Hear! Hear!
My spouse and I contributed $100 to Dodd’s campaign, yesterday, as a token of respect, acknowledging his fortitude. We both support Kucinich, albeit the Ron Paul gambit may have been eclipsed by a possible McCain/Lieberman ticket–either scenario loathsome for all too apparent reasons. Edwards/Dodd, anyone?
We need a new 9/11 commission investigation to answer that and some other questions.
Did they plan it and thus want it to happen?
Did they truly try to stop it and failed?
There are many questions yet unanswered (for the public at least).
I admit I always find myself multitasking when Hatch and Cornyn speak. When Ted and Dodd spoke I was riveted. When Corny & Hatch spoke, I started looking for recipes.
Hi gang!
My favorite part of the orrible meltdown was when sir hash lost ‘is place in that printed-out thingie he was shoutin’ from. I hope someone can make a yootoob of it. he was flitting all over several pages simultaneously, trying to re-boot his mind on multiple wrong sentences in the canned rant & he got downright panicky. Too bad a colleague didn’t pass the lad a square of foil.
confession: I usually mute sens hash & corninny. cantstandum.
John and Orrin, kiss my can!!!!
