The White House has given several versions of when Bush knew about the NIE on Iran’s nuclear program. This includes the rather laughable, but not shocking, claim that in August 2007, Director of National Intelligence McConnell told Bush they had new information on Iran’s nuclear program and Bush did not bother to ask what it was.
But apparently, that position, which simply confirms Bush is a moron, is preferred over the actual reality — that Bush likely knew by February or March 2007 that Iran did not have an active nuclear weapons program.
White House officials have now admitted that George W. Bush was told that the intelligence assessment on a covert Iranian nuclear programme might change last August, but they have avoided answering the question of when the president was first informed about the new intelligence that led to that revised assessment.
Bush would not be denied his warmongering.
It appears that Bush knew there was no reason for his rhetoric when Norm Podhoretz stated he came to the White House and met with Bush for 45 minutes and made the case for Bombing Iran. The meeting was apparently arranged by the White House and was not on Bush’s public schedule.
I’m sure our White House press corps will get right on this.

Attaboy, Attaturk – nailed it again
Is it already the 18th? Only 13 more days for W to tell more lies before the last full year of his presidency. That is, unless somebody reels up the courage to get rid of him. Impeachment!
This certainly is not surprising, but simply more evidence that we have a president who is irresponsible and a danger to the American people. Yet we continue to walk around with our heads in the clouds hoping for a better tomorrow. Just maybe all of this will go away.
OK now put away the tinfoil hats guys. Obviously just a misunderstanding, maybe we misunderestimated the intel or somethin.
Next you’re gonna tell me The Decider would lie to get us into a war or something…
Tinfoil hat time:
This Administration has no end game because they do not think their will be an end.
They have several concurrent power retention strategies:
Iran
Avian Flu
Domestic Terrorism
Any one of which, coupled with a stacked Supreme Court and an aquiessent legislature could trigger a suspension of the Presidential Election until things are “under control”
Hey, it kept “freedom” going in Pakistan didn’t it!
morning!
oh no! chicken flu!
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo all by himself today. He’s writing about “The Obama-Clinton Issue,” and says that with the presidency, character and self-knowledge matter more than experience, and that there are reasons to think that, among Democrats, Barack Obama is better prepared for this madness.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry muffins just out of the oven. We’ve had a frost (it’s 29 degrees now) so it will be interesting to see if the Swiss chard is as cold hardy as they say it is. (It’s my first time planting it.) Have a good day, and stay warm.
mmmm chard, one of favs, and high in vitamin C.
Assuming the Republic survives, 398 days until the new President takes the oath of office and W probably scrams off to his extradition-proof bunker in Paraguay. (As long as he’s not in this country any more…although The Hague would be a nicer destination for him, in my opinion.)
Empire wants to control everything. The agenda is us hegemony and all the pins must be knocked over one at a time. Israel has it’s own agenda and that seems to align with ours in the mid east.
Those pesky Americans south of the border must be brought to their knees. Leave them alone and they spout democracies. But the oil was a better catch these days and we can always assassinate populists down there.
BushBot just does his manchurian candidate act. And he’s not even a good actor or liar. They stole two elections cos they wanted their empire and the cash grab. And they got a lot of booty in 8 years.
We got nothing.
i’m starting the day with teddy kennedy’s most excellent senate floor statement on fisa yesterday – youtube from newtonusr
When is the press going to report something like, “Bush said this, but the facts refute it.” instead of printing everything he says like it’s just another opinion?
Dodd was on fire yesterday!!!! He is calling the bluff of the White House and the “asseleophants.” Not a single mention in the news this morning of his historic speech, yet. Bush/Cheney are liars. Dodd and millions of Americans gets it…… Bush is incapable of getting it!!!
Good morning, Attaturk and firepups. Wow, yesterday was crazy. I just stopped trying to post altogether. At times even a hard refresh came up empty. And yesterday’s article telling of Reid’s pulling the telecom bill got 1,125 diggs! Wow! I think I’m going to have to switch from Edwards to Dodd. How do others feel about this?
Good morning pups!
I watched and listened to every word.
Seriously considering it…
i think that whatever you ultimately decide, it’s not a bad idea to send dodd a bit of $ today. first, there’s no rule saying you can’t support more than one candidate (except when it’s time to vote *g*).
second, dodd in particular and politicians in general need to see this type of action rewarded – so we get more of it!
ymmv. but you did ask for opinions.
FISA was created to give clear guidance and a “procedure” to the executive. Bush ignored FISA and in doing so has demonstrated a persitant “pattern of conduct,:” “Contempt” of the rule of law.
Yes protect America, but not like this……..
I remember an Iraqi friend of mine saying: “We want freedom, but not like this!!”
People need to see Dodd on the floor yesterday. Call your local media and ask why Dodd is not given the exposure he deserves and commands…
Good Morning! yayz DODD!

Thanks selise!
perhaps I should have noted “YMMV”
hey tw3k, I remember you!
I am still on the fence about Dodd.
In defense of the Constitution he is supurb, but not so much on immigration, and I need to look closer at domestic economic issues in general.
Edwards’ track record for his short tenure in the Senate was less distinguished, but Dodd didn’t shine so much in that time period either.
I am very leery of throwing all my support to any candidate on any single issue.
They all have high points.
But Edwards or Dodd would make me happiest.
That said, the weakest of the Dems running is preferable to the strongest of the R’s. And I would characterize myself as an independant. For me, the Democratic motto has consistantly been “OK we are not all that, but look at the other guy”
Done. If other want to likewise thank Senator Dodd, here’s where to do it.
done
I’d rather have Edwards or Dodd than Clinton or Obama.
Edwards has a small chance.
Dodd has none.
Thanks, newtonusr and selise. I’m feeling a glimmer of hope this morning!
Dodd got some money from me. That kind of behavior deserves rewarding.
I claim ignorance….
Yes, Mrs. Bilbo and I were just discussing this. But, you know, even though Dodd may not be the most progressive sounding of the candidates, at least I feel as though I can trust him to do the principled thing. And he obviously takes his oath the defend the constitution serously. I can’t think of many others in Congress I feel the same way about. I’m feeling as though I can forgive a few warts to support a principled person.
G’Morning all,
All that truth streaming from the teevee yesterday, my head is still spinning. Very seriously considering Dodd here. Kudos to all here at the lake especially the traffic cops handling the large crowds. It was kind of like Coney Island on a hot summer day when I was a kid.
I want Senator Dodd for Christmas this year! Please? Pretty please?
Attaturk, thanks so much for talking about the NIE and Bush. I’m sure Lunkhead was hoping it would just go away with all his other scandals surfacing. Keep the heat on! He’s a lying, stinking, warmongering, lying stinking, no good for nothing, baffoon…
It’s interesting how the Washington Post is framing yesterday in the second paragraph of their page 2 story
:
Dodd is not even mentioned until paragraph 5.
My opinion of him has improved greatly. Words are fine and necessary, but actions speak louder. At this point, I would be happy with a Dodd presidency, and would enthusiastically support him should he become the nominee. Maybe I will send him a little $ too.
Headin’ down the highway in the “real” world today, so I’m leaving you some food for thought this morning about things we’ve learned, and learned from.
~Prairie Sunshine, On the Road Again
ya know what? Lie Fatigue is setting in. They are coming so fast and in such quantity that overload is setting in.
Sad! So Sad!
The MSM silence is deafening
That is my take on Dodd as well. He is the most outstanding choice as far as return our Republic to rule by constitution. I also consider him the best bet to reverse the slide of the last 8 years as far as our freedoms go.
Edwards is my definite 2nd choice, after Dodd . . . who has quickly become my hero . . . but the Dodd poster in the bedroom gives my wife the creeps.
:)
This may have already been posted, but it’s worth watching again.
Dodd’s victory speech from yesterday:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=-I4Z0_dyFMc
Happy Holidays to you too, Senator Dodd! ;-)
LOL.
The Baltimore Sun does better. Here’s their complete lead paragraph:
Good morning from L.A. Thanx for the link to Dodd’s amazing speech. Will be sending it to folks on my mailing list shortly. Those faxes & calls I managed to squeeze in before heading to work yesterday are making me feel pretty good this a.m. Donation time for Dodd- what a job he did!
That’s also a great pic of Sen. Dodd on yr. website, KayInMaine. “Man of the Year” indeed. Thanx for posting Kennedy’s terrific speech on yr. site, too.
:)
Don’t miss Eric Lichtblau’s horrific article on yesterday’s FISA fight — a study in obtuseness. Chris Dodd doesn’t get mentioned until the fifth paragraph, and then only as follows:
No mention of the filibuster threat until the thirteenth paragraph, and then only as follows:
And no mention — as in zero — of Reid’s refusal to honor Dodd’s hold on the bill, or the firestorm of criticism over Reid’s hypocrisy.
Oh, and the mere existence of the competing Judiciary Committee bill? Graf 14. But again, no context — none — regarding the controversy over Reid’s decision to use the immunity-granting SSCI version as the “base” bill.
Lichtblau and his hapless editors will, of course, plead deadline pressure for this sloppy work. After all, as e-wheel and others noted, by late in the day, the Times was claiming that the SSCI bill was sailing through in a victory for Cheney/Bush.
Still, what a clutzy about-face. It’s as if the Chicago Tribune, in the wake of “Dewey Beats Truman,” posted its revised story as “Dewey Presidency Inexplicably Delayed.”
from the wapoo article:

(emphasis mine)
something that matters a great deal to me is that we have leaders who are capable of breaking out of the dc bubble – who can bring to bear their own internal values and who can listen and learn from others outside their social circle.
i’m not close enough to know that is true of dodd – but he just showed all the signs of it.
and, imo, that may mean he would be willing to reconsider his previously held positions in light of new understanding – even new understandings of his own values and priorities.
all this is potentially very good news to me.
p.s. i’m no fan of what he said about drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants either. but if we were ever in a position where decisions were being made (vs vague comments in a debate), it’s not impossible that he might consider what jane hamsher has to say.
or maybe i’m dreaming.
but it’s a nice dream.
I’ve already written my next post for this morning.
But if I wasn’t a lazy bastard I’d be ripping Anne Appelbaum a new one.
A column SO AWFUL it must be read to be believed.
Essentially Anne says American Women should shut up about their rights, because they have it so good compared to Saudi women…and it’s all NOW’s fault.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..01598.html
that should have come with a spew alert! *g*
all worth watching many times!
here’s is where yesterday’s c-span archive will be posted (so you can webstream the whole thing again).
it’ll probably be posted sometime today.
Dewey defeats Truman.
you did give us a puke alert
that does it. what a lying sack of shit.
… sorry for the foul language so early in the morning.
Thanks, Bilbo. Damn, what happened to the Edit button??
Kinda boggles the mind when you consider how mightily the Wurlitzer would roar if a Democratic president made even one of the mistakes Bush has. Shoot, they’d crucify him/her!
no apologies necessary!
omg. where to start?
that is why you are a blogger. and i just sit here dumbfounded.
lol too funny :)
It went away when the site transitioned to its “new look”, along with “Preview” (at least for many). Preview has now been universally restored, but it’s not clear (at least to me) whether or not edit will be coming back.
I try to remember that preview is my friend in the meantime…
Mr. Sunshine tells me JLie pretty much admitted to Imus this morning that he’s doing everything he can to stick it to the people who opposed him.
Because he’s such a model of moral rectitude and honor, of course.
more than almost anything, i long for the old “quote this comment” button.
but it seems the tech folks behind the scenes have much more important things on their hands. i wish there was a way to say thank you to all of them.

After yesterday’s extreme slow-down I’m a little worried about server capacity. If FDL is going to have huge influxes on a regular basis, that could become its biggest problem.
I’m off to upstairs.
Some morning snark above.
http://firedoglake.com/2007/12…../#comments
Don’t thank me! Thank FDL (Dodd’s speech) and YouTube (Dodd video), DailyKos, and others who werked wicked hahd yesterday. It was beautiful. I’m just a vessel of the good news. :-)
Why do you still treat it like news that Bush lies. Everything Bush says by definition is a lie. He is a pathological liar.
http://1thirteen3.blogspot.com…..tupid.html
When a person lies, they can never be trusted. Never.
What you need to do is the old Chevy Chase thing he did with Franco of Spain. He is still dead? Remember? A small report that George W. Bush is still a liar, might drive the point home more effectively and teach a very important lesson – your integrity is something that no one can take away from you.
Bush telling the truth when it is difficult – that is a man biting a dog.
Do you really beleieve that this is the entire universe. Other people “nailed it” long before. You are such a bunch of self-serving gushers.
Meanwhile our service men and women are dying in Iraq. Could have been out two years ago if the “Progressives” had not had their heads up their, well I will be nice.
Some of knew that Bush was a Liar before he took the oath of office – which of course was a lie.
Were it not for the fact that in all the self-adulation here there is a good bit of information, I would not wade through all the “Zed” and “ain’t I smart knowing you are smart” BS.
People are dying for no reason at all except the people who should be doing what it takes to get them home are to busy at the feel good party.
Remember the Bush Lies, People Die bumper sticker. Old news.
Podheretz is a schlepping putz. Birds of a feather.
Wasn’t gonna reply but what the hell…..
You would not have had your precious service goons and terrorists dying in Iraq if you Americans had your collective heads up your collective asses. You collectively are so deep in lie and deception you would not know what a relationship with reality is. But, as with anyone who has all the answers, there are no answers left over for all the rest of us. Have it your way, no way America will be writing history, that is for the survivors, sadly not Amerika.
Fortunately there are those who are starting to see what the state of your nation is in. Right now, it is much like the 8 blind describing the assephant and until the notes are compared and understood, not much progress can be made in “seeing” the creature. Hugh’s list is only the beginning of the notes, fwiw. You do not seem to be in that group, but your right to comment is unhindered, whereas you can be silent and be thought a fool or open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Thanks for the opinion on the zed, please note with the start just how many zeds there were.
P.S. I am out of here and not returning, post what swill you will.
