I LOVE that song. Very relevant what with immigation being such a hot button issue for so many people. Weird, it’s been in my head since the weekend. “Is this the best way we can raise our big orchards? Is this the best way we can grow our good fruit?” Indeed. And I had a Phil Ochs song in my head before that and he got nominated and won.

MSNBC just reported one of their ‘breaking news item: Condi has made a “surprise” visit to Iraq. Any ideas of what’s up with that, assuming it is really fresh news?

NPR had the military guy in charge in Baghdad (not St Petreaus)today backing off the everything is perfect in Baghdad and the surge is working line. He was talking up the need for troops there (potential flare-ups, can’t step down til others step up, etc) all in connection w/the coming mandated withdrawals of troops. Sounded like ground being laid for surge, version 2.

BBC just reported Condi in Kirkuk (sp?)trying to work out something with the kurds.

What are they going to do re: Basra and protecting the supply lines now the Brits are going ?
