Love how ABC proved Edward’s point that corporations aren’t going to go without a fight. They put up Greenspan immediately after Edwards to say Edwards plan wouldn’t work.

Yep. They tried to shoot him down. But, I think it might have backfired.

As I listened I was struck that some of the things Greenspan suggested were what Edwards also suggests.

I somehow suspect there are economists and financial interests who understand the sensibility of what Edwards is proposing. I don’t imagine they dismiss his plans outright. It’s time for a shift back to some common sense and governance for ALL of America, not just a few Bush family cronies.

The question is, if he doesn’t succeed, then who will they support. Will they just walk away or will they still find a general election candidate appealing? Maybe they’ll decide to vote against the Republican nominee.

I don’t know how many Paul supporters there are, but would there be enough to help a Dem candidate win Texas, Utah, Wyoming?

Well, if he’s going to be majority leader, then Edwards will have to look around for someone else to be Veep. :-)

I didn’t know about this bill. Evidently it’s stuck in committee.

It might be nice for Congress to have a website with all proposed (and pending) legislation, so the public will know what’s up and how to petition their reps.

CSPAN showed a campaign ad for McCain who is going to CUT TAXES, and I saw one last night for Romney with the same message I’M GOING TO CUT TAXES (not yours but…)

So how are they going to pay for the War on Terror? I don’t understand.

Apparently they plan to sell us all into permanent bondage to the Asians who loan us all that money.

President Clinton and Hill leaders from both parties have promised to revive their push for expanding government wiretapping authority as soon as Congress resumes after Labor Day. August 2, Reps. Hyde (R-IL), Conyers (D-MI), Schumer (D-NY) and McCollum (R-FL), among others, introduced H.R. 3960, the “Anti-Terrorism Law Enforcement Enhancement Act of 1996.” Simply put, this bill consists of the wiretap provisions excluded from the just-passed H.R. 3953! It expands multi-point wiretapping, provides increased emergency wiretap authority, and relaxes requirements for obtaining pen register and trap and trace orders in foreign counter surveillance investigations. It reduces the number of the progress reports the government is required to submit to the judge during a wiretap, from the typical number of one every ten days (or at any other interval, in the discretion of the judge overseeing the case at hand), to a single report after fifteen days. And it adds yet more offenses to the list of RICO predicates.

Thanks so much for your letter. I modified it a bit, sent it off to my Senators (Cardin, who’s on Judiciary, and Mikulski, who’s a jerk), and forwarded it with a pleading e-mail to my friends in MD & VA to do likewise.

Cardin has maintained right along that he is opposed to Telco immunity. Guess we’ll see what happens when push comes to shove. I agree totally with your assessment of Mikulski. She needs a primary challenger in the worst way.

Hope this will generate some traffic to the Senate offices.
