I protest!
Ooh, separate categories…
ES!
Let the selectin’ begin!
Bob Dylan- Blowing In The Wind
Do we get to vote for one in each category?
Wow, I had not commented on Donita’s thread, nor read the comments, now I feel bad! I wish Fini the best of luck and good health… 8-(
Wait, wait. I thought we could vote for anything that had been nominated. You mean there’s rules? This is organized?
I had to put OHIO up high somewhere this week. RGB special delight.
Neil Young,
Buffalo Springfield,
Gil Scott Heron
You mean I can’t vote for Phil Ochs?
Bummer prognosis for Joh D:
Niel Young
Buffalo Springfield
Bob Dylan
Few of my faves from the day are missing, but these will do.
I think Pink is my favorite this week.
Beefheart, Vote your favorite.. consider it a write in. I love Phil Ochs.
I guess we’re voting one in each category (and no write-ins)?
ES, you just beat me to it. Will do.
Pink
Buffalo Springfield (anyone know where the name comes from?)
Gil Scott-Heron
I’m not bein’ a total anarchist here. Somebody besides me actually nominated this song with a link to the video an’ everything.
Phil Ochs — “I Aint Marchin’ Anymore”.
Pink
Buffalo Springfield
Dylan
from wiki:
Thanks, suz. gawd, how lazy am I, I can’t even google…?!
When you vote, be thorough, don’t leave any hanging chads. We don’t do Diebold here..)
Oh wait. The other categories. Hmmmmmm.
Neil Young
Country Joe & the Fish
Phil Ochs — “I Aint Marchin’ Anymore” (write-in)
Suz, Who is our accounting firm again?
The accounting firm of Grabbin, Cash, & Runsfast
I protest the exclusion of Phil Ochs — “I Aint Marchin’ Anymore”.
In protest, I vote for
Phil Ochs — “I Aint Marchin’ Anymore”.
Oh–and Bob Dylan, Blowin’ in the Wind
Think I will vote before the liquor stores open.
Pink
Country Joe & the Fish
Dylan
BFL, he was great, wasn’t he?
I almost forgot my favorite song by him, “Outside of a Small Circle of Friends.”
Just to make sure my write-in counts… i don’t know if this is a rule for write-ins, but here’s a link to the video. It wasn’t workin’ right. But it’s a link.
Yesssss!!!!!!!!
Hey. My link thang didn’t work. Try again?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5pgrKSwFJE
Isn’t CSNY made up of members from Buffalo Springfield and the Byrds…
So I wiki’d and lo and behold…

Bravo
But, but do we have the necessary Quorum present…! ;-)
yeah but you forgot to vote!
Oh, ES, I am so proud of you for taking first spot! I vote for Neil Young, “Let’s Impeach the President” for sure. What could possibly be more important?
With legal advice from the Law Offices of Dewey, Cheatem and Howe.
-G
Yeah. He was I liked so much of what he did. If I started listing them, it would go on and on. It’s weird. You know how you get a song in your head? Today I had his song, “Crucifixion” in my head. Not all of it, but the parts I could remember. But that’s a great video of him doing “I Aint Marchin’ Anymore.” There’s a video up of him on Midnight Special doing “Power & Glory” It’s kinda sad. The voice just isn’t there the way it had been and he looks bloated. But it’s still good.
Buffalo Springfield- For What It’s Worth
Harry Reid was faced with three possibilities:
— Go along with Chris Dodd and hold the fucking bill.
— Go forward with the Judiciary Committee’s version, which would require 60 votes to add amnesty and/or blanket warrants.
— Go forward with the Intelligence committee’s version which had those already written in, and it would take 60 votes to remove them.
So, of course, he went for the third option
Attention. Voting booth number three is not a kissing booth. thanks.
I like the The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.
Something contemporary would be good tho. Pink is contemporary but I don’t particularly like that piece.
That’s a good one. Song doesn’t get mentioned as much as some of the biggies. But it’s good.
The cavalry chaaaaarrrged……
Phil Ochs’ Joe Hill certainly deserves to at least get a mention.
Never would have guessed, but that Pink song is starting to grow on me.
Partisan bickering is encouraged.
And then blamed his party for forcing his hand… WTF???
I Wish i Knew How it Would Feel To Be Free
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
say ‘em loud, say ‘em clear
for the whole round world to hear.
Really glad to see Phil Ochs getting so many mentions-all write-ins. For somebody who wasn’t on the ballot, pretty impressive.
I used to vote in a garage in my precinct before the folks moved away. There was an albino peacock who owned the neighborhood, strutting around the sidewalks and chasing small dogs and children.
On voting day he’d come over to check out the commotion and more than once ended up in a voting booth with an unsuspecting voter. Teehee.
Where were all the Ochs fans last night when I was trying to find out your favorites?
But seriously, when are the winners gonna be announced? It’s getting late here on the east coast. I really gotta get some shut-eye.
In light of Give ‘em Zell! Harry, I’ll write-in this song for the Current Events category:
The Zombeatles: Braaaiiiins!!!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jP6nYs9Il7c
Hey, Eureka.
-G
What a complete disappointment and failure on Reid’s behalf. If the Democratic leadership keeps this up the Democratic body will rot and fall off.
I could swear I’ve seen that peacock on C-Span. Are you sure he didn’t get elected?
I dedicate this song to Harry Reid.
Let’s give Harry some hell.
Where’s the kissing booth?
I expect some hugs, at the very least!
No hanging chad here; Dixie Chicks, Buffalo Springfield, and Bob Dylan!
Hey!!! I asked you when the voting was and you said Friday, so I came back tonight. Didn’t think I needed to be here ’til now. You shoulda gotten me a cot. An’ some pizza.
ES,
Do we vote for one song only, or for one song in each of the categories?
Isn’t he strutting around the WH…? ;-)
Harry Reid is controlled by the telecom corporations.
Do whatever ya want. Yipeeeeeee!!!! Fuck the Draft!!! Yipeeeee!!!!!
This is a DFH precinct, so please remove your shoes before entering the voting area. I’ll be at the pencil sharpener if you need me.
The U.S. Senate needs a majority leader.
But, We the People are getting more than hugs, We’re getting the reach around…
Partisan bickering as a protest song? *g
I’m headed out early tonight folks. Have to be over the hill tomorrow morning for the bride to be’s fitting for her dress. g’nite all
Well, I voted for one in each category and declared Pink my overall favorite of the week.
And it’s 1, 2, 3, what are we fightin’ for?
G’ nite Mom.
Night Suze.
‘nite. Sorry I missed the other night when you wwere askin’ about Ochs. I gotta run myself.
Bonne Nuit, Suz!
Keep them cards and letters comin’ in —- For Phil Ochs!!!!
nite.
good one!
He’s a contender now.
nite suzanne
I don’t know if Pink will do more material that will jab at Chimpy, but I’m certainly glad for this one.
Pink.
Wow, Dr. Dick! You’ve made an appearance at the Lake… Are you done for the Semester…?
When Will They Ever Learn?
Is there a category for “Best Performance by a Write-In” ?
Are we voting for one fave?
The Revolution Will Not be Televised.
Good night, Suz! Best dreams.
The Revolution will not be shown on C-SPAN.
The Television will be Revolutionized
Pretty close. I still have a couple hours of grading to do, but everything else is done. Going to sleep in tomorrow and grade the last of the test in the afternoon. Then I get two weeks off before I teach a 3 week short session. Oh, and I get to move my office at the same time.
Byb Dylin Blowin’ in the wind
Good night all
Loo Hoo, that’s such a great song.
Sounds like a busy intersession, DD! Well, Bill Moyers is finally coming on in my TZ, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
It’s quite possible. Best protest protest vote. I like it.
Hey, Dr. Dick! You get new digs? Why? Are you stoked?
Not really. It is a smaller (as in tiny) office with no windows. It does have the advantage of being with the rest of the department rather than half way across campus. On the other hand, it is easier for the students to find. One advantage of my current office is that they really had to want to see me to find it. ;-)
The devolution will be Hannitized.

Good News, Al Gore wins
UN climate conference adopts global plan
By JOSEPH COLEMAN, Associated Press Writer 10 minutes ago
Hey All,
Dixie Chicks, Country Joe and Dylan. Dr. D! Semester over for us, too, and winter just kicking in here in Cleveland. Lots of library stress for students in our joint program with Case, but papers now all printed and most on their way home. Our new space has windows, for which I am so grateful. Hello Pups!
Hi Christine!
Hi Margot!
Cool!
Now if we can preempt the undermining of it by every tool at their disposal…
Hi Christine, Congratulations. It’s pouring rain here in AR at about 33 degrees.. could be a lot of snow in the morning.
Aren’t we all bad staying up so late. We are trying to get ready to head east for Christmas. Thank goodness we have a Trader Joe’s here.
Winter has been kicking since about Thanksgiving here and we have had light snow for the last several days. I’m hoping it holds up until next week so I can go cross country skiing.
Oh, Margot, you like? How do you feel about the better one? Here’s an interesting take on one of my favorites, “Lemon Tree“.
ES, I know that we need rain, but it is so depressing here in the land of all clouds. I’d rather have snow. We are hoping for 5-8 inches tomorrow night.
We’re supposed to get snow this weekend. I love snow. The other night I went outside and it was 60 degrees at about 2 a.m. In Ohio, in December. That feels yucky!
Dr. D
My son recently moved to Denver, just to ski on the weekends. He said that last year he didn’t ski one time, due to weather here in Cleveland and a work schedule that has him traveling all week.
Do you get the lake effect weather we get over here south of erie?
Hello! Al Gore is President of the world!
Who would’ve ever thought when Harry Reid started his blog, “Give ‘em Hell Harry,” that he meant that literally. Just looked at it and James Carville is on the frontpage, and Harry’s actions constitute a Hell on earth.
Just reading his Wiki entry, and he converted TO Mormonism while in college? Who converts TO Mormonism?!? Jeeezus, off to Blue America…more and better Democrats is right…
Margot,
can you believe this Ohio weather? One day winter, the next part spring or fall. We hate the gray days.
Hey, Christine! I will share your excitement soon!!
Reid is the new Lieberman.
Think I will head to bed. Take care all.
tw3k,
Yes we do — usually I laugh at lake effect, but then an Alberta Clipper comes in and we are buried. Sorry guys for the constant weather report — like bird watching here.
Hey Loo Hoo,
What’s UP?
ES, Sure seems so, I’m so disappointed.
I’ve always been amazed at the amount of snow. Recent years don’t compare but still quite a lot of snow.
Christine, I’m more optimistic than many. Looking forward to the great Bush FALL.
LH,
I just am so dismayed about what is floating around the media and tee vee. At this moment, I’m still with Edwards, but why, WHY is he not being mentioned on television?
On another note, and not much mentioned here — as a librarian, WHAT ARE YOU READING?
Christine, I am reading Curveball. It’s really good and Marcy Wheeler will be hosting the author in tomorrows book salon. Should be a very interesting thread.
Neil, Joe, Dylan.
Thanks, ES, I have many on my list. Right now I’m reading about the Fire of London in 1666 and one about Lord Nelson. Not really reading our book salon, as I am trying to cope, and work. Sigh.
ES, did you read what Blanche did earlier this week to the Farm Bill?
Loo Hoo, I got lost in watching YouTubes. Love Lemon Tree. I remember the Smothers Brothers doing it, was trying to find it w/ no luck.
Cuando Caliente El Sol
No. Will read it now but I heard high praise of her efforts with the Agri bill on the Senate floor this week.
Blanche’s family owns a lot of AR farmland. It’s one reason she is in bed with the Waltons etc, and determined to end the estate tax.
Christine, I’m behind the times. Just got Naomi Klein’s Shock Doctrine. I’m taking it with me for a treat on my upcoming vacation…
I am reading Shock Doctrine. Wow is it depressing. But, then Senator Reid comes along and cheers me right up!
It’s difficult to discuss the Shock Doctrine (outside of blogistan) with anyone who has not read it.
Wow, the WaPo has its Huckster coverage tomorrow, part of the “Know Your Candidates” series. “What You Might Not Know About Mike Huckabee” is rather damning. Here’s Thing One:
That’s the Huckster family in a nutshell. They set up a gift registry on their way out of the Gov. Mansion.. for everything .. hand towels and dishes on up.. Quite likely they stole (definitely attempted) over 100k in furnishings from the Gov. mansion. Jethrene (Mrs huckster) cried when she got caught and had to return everything.
I lived a block away from the mansion during several years of his reign.. Saw that boat many mornings on its way to Lake Maumelle. The Gov. was almost always driving alone.
What a coincidence! I had just noticed my chad was all exposed and hanging!
For what it’s worth, I gotta go with Buffalo Springfield.
Margot, that Smothers Brothers is wonderful! Such a demonstration of what we could achieve!!
Did you mean this lemon tree?
My votes for the choices given: Pink; Buffalo Springfield; and Dylan. Although being a draftee around that era, Fixin’ to Die was one of my favorites at that time. Dylan’s Masters of War is an all-time fave and about sums it up for today’s crop of Admin & Congress as well as yesterday’s – “you ain’t worth the blood that runs in your veins.”
Loo Hoo,
I think that’s part of why they were so powerful during that time (so much so they got taken off the air), because they were funny, loving and entertaining and they changed hearts and minds.
Stealth love campaign right into middle America’s homes.
OMG, that is the best version ! And the one my fifth graders are learning right now. NCLB can be damned!
I’m here to help.
Great songs, all of ‘em…
Smgumby, yes! That’s the one I was thinking of. No wonder I didn’t find it under “Smothers Brothers.”
First all of the above of the evening.
Didja see watertiger’s copy of the Hucklebee Holiday card?
Talk about a war on Christmas….
Bold indeed of you and Suz to run a contest, ES, since folks love to gripe about ‘em. *g*
But this one sure has been fun!
See you guys ’round campus tomorrow….
And first all of the above of the evening to you too, ES. Not quite sure what it means, though.
In the current events category, I wanna vote for
Dixie Chicks- Not ready To Make Nice
For 1960s protest, does it have to be Rock?
I want Pete Seeger’s Big Muddy and also here
The environment may be different, but the message is the same!
Bob in HI
G’ nite Teddy. I just did a bit of early counting. It’s going to be very close.
OK – I get it. Yeah, they’re all that good.
ET, I took your praise of all songs as a vote for all. How do I repair ET’s chad?
“Where’s the kissing booth?
I expect some hugs, at the very least!”
Right over this way, please.
:-)
Bob in HI
PS Not to drop names or anything, but I got to chat with Howard Dean tonight.
ET will simply have to vote again.
Cool! Anything interesting?
Well we have a possible tie. With that cliff hanger, I bid all protesters a good night.
Any late arrivals.. leave your vote, we will check back.
I don’t know if Jimi Hendrix’s Woodstock Star-Spangled Banner fits any category, but it is so great it might deserve its own niche. I’ve watched and/or listened to that phenomenal performance over a hundred times, and it still sends shivers up my spine.
1.Neil Young; Impeach the President gets all the of my votes
2. Neil Young
3. Heil Young
How goes the tallying? Way too many good choices from the last two nights.
Albino peacock? Give with a better description, plez….like totally white all over? That bird must have had serious identification issues!
Dixie Chicks….Dixie Chicks…..Dixie Chicks
That’s a total of three votes, btw; ES *said* we could vote often and I’m just puttin’ them all together….no cover-ups here!
Good Fucking Grief! Jonah Goldberg, sounding like Trotsky on Quaaludes…
Not to butt in, but yes an Albino Peacock.
What will they think of next?
That’s a refreshing thought. Who needs collusion besides the lying scum that represent the feigned will of the “PEOPLE”. I don’t cre if you hate my guts of if I hate yours it is unamerican to do what your told. We can think for ourselves and will. Thanks for the nice thought.
OMG! You can be a buttinski anyday with pix like that. *g* Just simply breathtaking and well worth a bookmark. Going back to read all the comments…but agree with what someone said about it looking like lace. That’s to beauty what watertiger’s cats are to cute. Thank you SO much!
Smgumby -
Went muckin’ around on teh google wrt our bird…someone claims that there’s such a thing as a color variation (ie white) of what’s called an Indian Blue peacock as opposed to an albino. Ya just never know what you’ll find over at that place.
First, a group of about 18 former and current Democracy for America activists met with him. In addition to my role as DFA organizer in Honolulu, I’m also coordinator for the local Impeachment action committee, but I didn’t have to say a thing: the first three questions to Dean were about impeachment. At first he didn’t say anything new. He opposes impeachment because he associates it with the politics of hate, and he says that’s not what Democrats were elected to do.
Later, I got a chance to vent one of my pet peeves to him: Why it is so easy for Republicans to brand Democrats as weak on Defense. I asked him, How can Democrats look strong when they approve every violent action Bush wants to do because they are afraid of being called weak on defense? The Democrats are afraid to vote against funding Bush’s war for fear of being accused of not supporting the troops. The Democrats are afraid to vote against Bush about FISA because they are afraid of being accused of being weak on intelligence. The Democrats are afraid… The Democrats are afraid… The Democrats are afraid… How are we gonna get a reputation for being strong if the public keeps hearing those three words: Democrats are afraid…?
I told Dean that we’d be better off confronting Bush about these things– not as a matter of Bush bashing or hate, but as a matter of defending the Constitution. And Dean agreed with me! But he said, IIRC, that when he tried using that argument in DC, he couldn’t sell it.
Bob in HI
I’m in a bad mood so I wouldn’t go on a rant
Thanks for the comment tho even if it is the sosdd.
Hey Mr. BFart Top quality pick and a first for my ears Phil Ochs sings and plays like a master a great anti war song so I have to change my picks to I ain’t marchin’ anymore. Sorry to be such a bother to the accounting firm. but glad they are not like Arthur Anderson. Also like to note what a great pleasure it is to watch Moyer and Olberman and hear Kieth’s 50 scandals from Bushco. At least the omes that have surfaced before the coming Impeachment hearings if they do there might be 100’s.
bigbrother -
Thought that Moyers/Olbermann match-up would be good and it far exceeded expectations. Is Hugh’s List of scandals *across* the administration or just shrub’s ’cause that little sucker has to be running into a mile’s long document by this point in time. Needs to be sent to both Moyers AND Olbermann if it hasn’t already.
Gemenid meteor shower NOW go outside and look up
Geminids?
It is overcast here but I hope you have a great view!
Same cloud cover here, tw3k. RATS! ‘Course if it produces rain, smiles all ’round. That’s a neat site; bookmarked for future ref. Thought this batch was supposed to be the night of 13/14; do you know if they tend to go on for several days?
Yeah, Rats! heh
Star Date always has some nice tidbits. They used to be aired on NPR depending upon your station. I’ve only caught a spectacular showing of the Perseids but it looks like the Geminids would be worth keeping an eye out for.
Attaboy Attaturk is upstairs with the new Florida “hurricane surge” strategy by the Rudy Campaign!
You’re right, Geminids
Gorgeous! Now I’m freezing but it was worth it
Great list. A little short, but it’ll certainly do.
I’ve been out of town working for a week in Canada, hadn’t time at all to read here, or I would have thrown in on the 60s category w/this one I’ve posted many times before (warning on the vid- contains graphic war images):
Phil Ochs- One More Parade
BTW if anyone has seen RevDeb around, she’s got mail. I promised to visit her mum in hospital when I got back home.
Dear Mr. President, fwiw, the revolution will not be televised.
Buffalo Springfield – timely and timeless!
Country Joe – a few clever changes to the lyrics and it could (should?) have been written yesterday!
Dixie Chicks – I love their music and they really had guts to stand up to the “loyal bushies” considering the market that they are in.
