I would have put Woody Guthrie’s “Jarama Valley” but couldn’t find a recording of it on youtube or elsewhere on the net. Other not well-known recordings are Marlene Dietrich singing “Where have all the Flowers Gone” in English and in German on youtube(warning, might bring tears to your eyes). Tom Paxton has also an update of “Lyndon Johnson told the Nation” called “George W. told the Nation”. All on youtube.

As diplomats and international jurists condemn military strikes and label any civilian casualties as violations of international law, they constrain conventional response. This may be their intention, but it is the duty of elected U.S. officials to protect the security of the United States and the life and liberty of its citizenry. If the White House aims to defend the nation against terrorism, and avoid the expense, damage, and trauma of war, it is time to revoke the ban on assassinating our enemies.

Since when does the end justify the means?

Show me where it says that “it is the duty of elected U.S. officials to protect the security of the United States and the life and liberty of its citizenry.” Rather they take an oath to protect the constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Somehow the neocons at AEI have confused the American people with the sniveling cowards whom Benjamin Franklin conteputuously dismissed: “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
