You can send an email to the network executives in charge of your favorite shows and tell them to return to the negotiating table with the writers here.
On Friday, Joss Whedon and the Buffyverse showed up in force to picket at 20th Century Fox on behalf of the WGA:
Mutant Enemy staffers at the rally included writers and producers Marti Noxon, David Fury, Tim Minear, Ben Edlund, Jane Espenson, and Drew Goddard, while the actors included Eliza Dushku (who will be collaborating with Whedon on the forthcoming Dollhouse), Nicholas Brendon, J. August Richards, Amy Acker, Juliet Landau, Tom Lenk, Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Ron Glass, Morena Baccarin, Summer Glau, Harry Groener, and Camden Toy.
Earlier this week the SEIU fired strike busting spin weasel Chris Lehane in solidarity with the writers, and today the WGA joins the SEIU in picketing against GE:
General Electric’s Arden Realty is one of the few real estate corporations to not yet call on their private security providers to settle a contract for Los Angeles security officers with higher wages and family healthcare as soon as possible. Blackstone, Jamison Properties, Maguire Properties, Beacon, RREEF, and others have sent letters to their security contractors urging them to complete negotiations of a fair contract before the holidays. The security officer contract will be the first contract of its kind in Southern California.
GE also figures into the ongoing strike of the Writers Guild of America against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). General Electric owns NBC/Universal, a member of the AMPTP. Striking writers, most of whom earn middle class wages, are seeking a fair share of the entertainment industry’s success. The AMPTP has prolonged the strike by walking out of negotiations twice, prompting many to believe that they never intended to negotiate seriously in the first place.
Marchers will gather at 5pm at the corner of Wilshire Blvd and Veteran Ave. in Westwood.
It’s really heartening to see this kind of cooperation and support between unions, because they do have common interests here and these guys do not want to settle. Hopefully we’ll see more.

Jane!
It must suck to be on strike for the holidays..
Great news – thanks Jane. The great spirit of Saul Alinsky Lives!
I’m so thrilled to see the Mutant Enemy group on board with this. They are awesome.
Glad to see everyone working so hard to end this strike successfully for the unions. Wishing good luck to everyone doing the heavy lifting.
OT, but I think important. I was just reading an article over at TPM about the fact that the FEC will be deciding tomorrow whether they will match funds collected for Edwards by ActBlue. Will their decision also affect the funds collected for candidates by Blue America and how? Is it too late to do anything more about it?
The Buffyverse and the Fireflyverse! Woohoo!
Union, baby ! A drive-by from southwest of Flint, the birthplace of the UAW. Unions built the middle class. (And a chance for singles?)
Yes !
Fantastic. And yet, Buffy Season 8 goes on despite the strike.
hats off to Jane, as always.
Dan W
Matching funds are a Presidential campaign issue, so Blue America (which collects money for legislative candidates) won’t be affected by an FEC decision about matching funds. That said, it’s incredibly archaic thinking that the presidential matching funds would only go for checks written by supporters and not for online fundage.
But if the powers-that-be can use it to stop Edwards’ campaign, they might.
(Sorry, Jane, to go OfT so soon!)
Great news, great post: Chris Lehane sucks. Where is Hillary on the WGA strike? Has she walked a picket line yet?
For my next question, why are they double teaming us with a new thread already? I can’t keep up! I’m so confused!
On that note, thanks for answering, Teddy. I’m gonna go take a nap now.
Now the Trekkies are getting involved. (see startrek.com)
Once all the nerds (yep, I is) get started on this, all Hell’s gonna break loose.
I’ve always loved Faith, bad girl tho she was. She could kick some ass.
As I recall, Whedon’s characters are great a dealing with things when nerds make all Hell break loose. That was, like, the whole sixth season of Buffy, wasn’t it?
There was a WGA picket at the on-campus studio at the College of Santa Fe this morning! Some of the local media turned out to take pictures and get quotes, should be on the local news shows tonight, and there will be stories in the New Mexican, maybe the Albuquerque Journal as well. It was great to show New Mexicans that there were people right here that are affected by the strike, and I got to meet some fine people while trying to not slip on the icy street.
My WGA contact said there should be more pickets set up if the strike continues, right here in New Mexico.
There’s something so Weird Al about this post…perhaps Friday, December 14, will become Weasel Stomping Day? It has it own song and everything.
Write on!
