Lower rates, higher stock prices and conversely, higher rates, lower stock prices. The effect of rate cuts is usually anticipated and stock prices move on this anticipation before the rate change is announced.</p> <p>Yesterday, the big drop in stocks after the announcement of the interest rate reduction was because stock prices had already risen substantially on the belief that there would be a rate reduction of .50%. It is frightening considering how much more time he has in office and how much further he could slide into dementia, if this is the actual problem.
