John Boehner is such a fragile soul. When he’s not sobbing on the House floor, he’s crying about what a mess the GOP is.
Polls show the public holds congressional Republicans in low esteem. Boehner’s effort to craft a new agenda for Republicans remains under wraps. And in the minority leader’s own words, their fundraising “sucks.”
“Now the money sucks for two reasons,” Boehner said in a Politico interview. “People are mad at the president; they are mad at the party. And then [there is] this whole immigration fight. People just turned off the spigot.”
Gosh, why would that be?
Sure the GOP has botched two wars, bankrupted the country, opened up a festering schism between their corporate overlords and their keep-the-brown-people-out base, alienated minorities, demonized gays, let a major US city drown, screwed the middle class, done zilch about climate change, had a bunch of their guys get thrown in jail — all while blindly supporting an historically unpopular idiot manchild of a President. But they were right on top of that Terri Schiavo thing!
What to do? This calls for a PR makeover!
Boehner has undertaken a study, consulting corporate image experts, to “re-brand” the party. But so far, no big ideas have emerged.
Sorry, John. The Great Leader has already re-branded the party "The Party That Loses Wars and Pretty Much Fucks Everything Up" and it’s going to take a generation to undo the damage.

BT,
All true, and not getting anywhere near the wurlitzer coverage it should.
At the rate events are going belly-up, that may change.
The Congressional (NRCC) branch of the party is also deep in debt but spent like a drunken sailor to defend a safe seat in a special election in Ohio yesterday
Well, some of it must be sinking in, ’cause Boehner’s whining about money. When Republicans whine about money, you know it’s bad.
Boehner was on NPR yesterday, among other things talking about Pelosi’s “overreaching.” Of course, those statements went unchallenged. NPR is about as bad as the rest of the MSM.
He’s so pathetic. Boo, hoo.
Current Republican branding on the floor of the senate this afternoon. One Republican proposed an amendment against funding mental health care and another on cspan 2 now declines tax incentives for application of wind energy.
Republican is a brand of disease.
I agree. All the republican party needs is a re-brand!
For the new brand I propose… …Traitors
The GOP’s two big sales pitches to Is have always been — we handle the economy better and we’re better on defense.
W trashed both, and they followed him right off the cliff.
GOP Rep. Don Young’s 2008 campaign is an example. For every new $1.00 going into his campaign chest, $2.00 goes out to his defense attorneys. And he hasn’t even been indicted yet…
Meanwhile, republican candidates debate religious beliefs and immigration while leaving healthcare, economy, and Iraq out of consideration. They’d love for these to be taken care of by someone else, apparently.
I don’t understand the casual Republican voter. Are the botched wars not even open for debate or revamping? It seems to me, the casual Republican voter wants to be distracted and debate something other than the war. I think the Republican candidate is wise to continue distracting the base with other issues.
If Huckabee is questioning Romney’s beliefs, who wants to bet religion will be debated in the general election?
Overreaching..
In this regard, Boehner means that Pelosi is “overreaching” by adopting left-wing AND right-wing talking points.
Republics thought that there would be no consequences for putting Bush/Cheney in power. I hope they have saved their plunder because it’s going to take some time for them to live that down. Re-branding requires that they repurchase their souls from the Bush family.
Excellent post BT.
The Repugs absolutely deserve the state of their party and the mess they find themselves in–and they also deserve their current crop of crazy prez candidates who don’t have a f*cking chance in the world of getting elected. (In this matter, I do not hesitate for one second to speak in absolutes.)
Whatever the new brand is, we need the translation quickly.
How were we supposed to know that “Compassionate Conservatism” would turn out to be “Batsh*t Radicalism”?
Plus: John Boehner will craft a new agenda for Republicans? This one deserves a hearty laughter.
Just caught a video of Bush and Barney on the grounds of the White House that apparently was a feel good photo op of the kindly leader and his pooch and in fact the prez appeared drunk or seriously tranquilized. Dare I hope he knows the jig is up and his legacy will be the utter ruination of the so called Grand Ole Party?
Only a generation? Last time it took from 1932 to 1995, which was at least 62 years to elect a republican congress.
The reverberation from 1995 to 2008 will take a lot longer to forget, it will take until today’s 20 year (who are really screwed in the job market)olds’ children, are dead and buried.
Predicted quote ‘Grandpa was really f….. by the Republicans under Bush the Idiot, and we are still suffering’.
i’ve seen and heard so many clips of this guy hammered. it would be unbelievable if it were any other time or anyone else but the RAPEthePUBLICifyouCAN party.
Dear John
“Boehner has undertaken a study, consulting corporate image experts, to “re-brand” the party. But so far, no big ideas have emerged.
I have an idea. Merge with the green party, for surely the republican brand is unworthy of an invesment.
“Sorry, John. The Great Leader has already re-branded the party “The Party That Loses Wars and Pretty Much Fucks Everything Up” and it’s going to take a generation to undo the damage.”
And even then, it may be too late anyway, since Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston (sorry, Mitt), Miami, New York, and yes, Washington will be under water.

What? They don’t like being branded the dead-rotting-chicken-wired-around their-necks-party? Heavens.
Why does the ad immediately above this article ask me if I want to Get the latest ANN COULTER articles for free? Who are we supporting here at this site?
Could be. I guess it also depends too on how the Ds respond.
Once Bush is out of office, will he still have to pretend to have stopped drinking? His need to claim steely determination will be gone.
Yes, he will dump taxes cuts for the rich and replace them with tax cuts for the wealthy. Gone will be the war against the Islamofascists and illegal immigrants. In its place, will be a more general war against brown people. The Iraq war will become the Iraq peace process. He will inaugurate a new era of fiscal responsibility by spending money only on Republicans. He will solve this Administration’s trashing of the Bill of Rights by arguing that honest law-abiding Americans don’t need them, which means that those who support the Bill of Rights are on the side of the terrorists. Yes, it will be a completely new agenda.
Here’s hoping that it takes two or three generations.
They could have just called Stanley Crouch.
The NoParty
If the coulter ad benefits FDL it gives new meaning to frontier justice. Bwhahahahaha!
Boehner’s accusation was that Nancy was overreaching and going it alone instead of working together and finding common ground with Republicans. He used the “Democrat party” meme. The clip is at npr.org.
He also said that congress and the intelligence committees were “in the dark” about the CIA tapes. Hasn’t that turned out to be fiction, too?

The ReThugican debate is live on MSNBC leading off with the flawed former mayor of nyc.
The disintergrated calling the disintegrating, well, disintegrated.
Democrats are far from being ready to lead the country. To many factions trying to come up with a new brand.
For my money we need a person who has a deep abiding belief in something that is good. Bill Clinton was a pragmatist but he had a clear, if not simple, view of what the world should be.
Not the other Guy is not good enough. Kucinich and Paul come to mind, but maybe Edwards has such a view?
We need a leader.
I say chimp drinks himself to death within a year of his new job as chief brush clearer in Crawford.
Ok, I was wrong. Irony isn’t dead.
The difference this time around is that the major media is much more a propaganda tool than ever before. Sure, this has always been the case to a certain extent, but the media consolidation ever since that “liberal” Bill Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act, has allowed the main stringpullers to control the public discourse in unprecedented ways. I think they could overcome this bad image fairly quickly now with the Noize Machine leading the charge.
Of course, we can stop them if we’re able to organize more and grow our numbers here in the New Media.
ATTACCKKKKK!!!
Maybe he can get together with George Bush and they can pray it away.
Dubious ideology? Bwahahahahahaha. Pot, meet kettle, kettle, pot.
Der Popenfuhrer could clear up that whole question of whether or not Lucifer and Jeebus were seen at that same gay bar.
I still can’t believe that with a billions Catholics in the world, they couldn’t find one who wasn’t a Nazi.
Oops. Make that “a billion”. I miss the edit function.
I’m an RC and everytime Ratzinger opens his mouth, I’m grateful that he’s older than dirt.
Nazis have always been very good to the BUsh family.
On the drinking front, keep in mind that it was disclosed after his last physical that Dubya also was treated for Lyme disease. The agent in that disease is a close relative of the one causing syphilis and can cause similar neurological damage if not treated early enough. I’m not defending here, just suggesting a basis for lasting neurological problems that can affect reasoning and personality.
Like any of his pronouncements are based on firm evidence instead of dubios ideology.
Yes, BT.
Rebranding. That is so passe. It was a concept that exploded in the nineties when PR and marketing firms thought they could create a brand. Brands emerge out of history. Tissue, even if another brand, is referred to as Kleenex. Fridge is another brand name that came into existence as a result of the product.
By contrast, when a product fails, the name becomes synonymous with failure. All the marketing and rebranding in the world doesn’t change the product’s reputation, a la the infamous Pinto. (My x-hubby insisted this be the car I buy when I asked his advice. What does that tell you?)And, Edsel.
When you run a brand in the ground and prostitute it, it is over. You would do better to start from scratch with a new name, wipe the slate clean of all the old players, review and restate your purpose, rethink and redo your mission statement. Basically, you shut the doors, head for a mountain top, meditate on what you’ve done to cause this failure, change your inner self, be humble, seek a serious guru and restart anew.
Think the Repugs will do that or will they just cheat in the next election?
I rather favor this explanation:
http://www.truthdig.com/eartot….._dementia/
That wingbag Tweety is covering this, right?
McCain just said he can make the US oil independent in five years. This debate is a laugh a minute.
They will cheat. After all, they remain Republics first.
I miss the edit function….
Sounds like that could be a GOP mantra these days.
Adblock Plus is your friend…
A supreme being gets into some desert tart’s snatch then makes a blood sacrifice out of said offspring who then comes back to life.
Nope, no dubious ideology there.
Good post & question Quaker. Spot on.
I honestly don’t think it’s sunk in with most of them. I really don’t. Go read Glenn Reynolds today. He really thinks Bush is “blooming” and things are looking pretty good for the GOP.
It’ll take loses in ‘08, ‘10, and ‘12 before these retards realize they’ve burned down the house. And even then, I doubt they’ll look inward much and just blame the liberal media.
Think about it this way: the odds are way long that there will be many Ann Coulter sales from this site so in effect, her ads are supporting Jane and FDL, not the reverse.
croc o sh-t tears…
Boner is the biggest baby and a liar to boot. If he weren’t in congress he would be selling aluminimum siding.
The NoScript plugin for Firefox is another good choice. Blocks potentially dangerous javascript unless user permits it. Many advertisers use javascript to generate their online ads.
it’s going to take a generation to undo the damage.
republicans haven’t had a message that people want to hear for a generation: they’ve just been able to hide the message by making people frightened and angry. People are tired of that and republicans are losing their ability to hide their message. It could be longer than a generation to get their snarling, greedy, nasty true-self message hidden again.
.
Thanks for the link. Great article. Now to watch the video.
LMAO.

Thanks, NPB, for letting us know what kind of jibberish they speak.
I guess the Pajamas Media crowd don’t believe the Halliburton rape victim’s story.
TBogg could use some Digg love:

it would be a sad day for all the aluminium siding salespeople.
OT..Is the Pope a secret Republican?
Short answer = YES
I was (barely) talked out of including that in a Letter To The Editor a coupla years back.
I still wonder how Rove pulled that one off…
Biodun, could you pleeeaaassseee send me some of your certainty about ‘08. If good people like howard Dean and John kerry (no matter our disagreement on certain issues) can be made to appear in league with Dev**, then anyone can.
I am certain about one thing, they will mess everything up if they can and they will, and they have the courts to back them up.
Awesome post Blue Texan.
Freddie T – “Mexico exports more illegal aliens than even we do”
Astounding insight that man possesses, no?
This is absolutely the best paragraph I have read in years:
Sure the GOP has botched two wars, bankrupted the country, opened up a festering schism between their corporate overlords and their keep-the-brown-people-out base, alienated minorities, demonized gays, let a major US city drown, screwed the middle class, done zilch about climate change, had a bunch of their guys get thrown in jail — all while blindly supporting an historically unpopular idiot manchild of a President. But they were right on top of that Terri Schiavo thing!
Thanks for that BT!
Digg love for TBogg – done.
What reason did they give? Just, “I don’t buy it.” In a male dominated culture, as our culture is, rape and domestic violence take a major amount of evidence to put the culprit away. For that matter, to bring him to court, as well.
Bilbo dugged too.
Worse.
This week’s “This I Beleive” is the heart-wrenching story of a Guantonamo inquisitor frining redemption.
Masquerading as an uplifting story of Christian growth,
the story asserts, unquestioned, how mean and evil the detainees were, puportedly all to get to the absoluition for Christian forgivness.

Good words – bad story.
Great spin approach.
Fixed it for you. ;-)
I think the evidence Ms Molly linked to is even more convincing. I couldn’t get the video at her link to work, but found it quickly on YouTube with a search on Bush dementia. I hope someone is updating the information; if the damage has progressed to his walking ability, it suggests some serious progression. Maybe Dr. Frist can analyze the video since he should have some time on his hands.
Anyway, this certainly isn’t a defense and I truly hope to see him tried. OT–I’m working with some friends from over at Glenzilla’s place to try to interest some NGO’s in sponsoring war crimes charges based on waterboarding, but not much progress, yet.
Alan Keyes is in the Repub debate – cool. Comic relief is in short supply at any and all gatherings of Republicans.
“their keep-the-brown-people-out base”
The immigration issue is where the Democrats and progressives are dead wrong. One cannot protect a country that does not control its borders and who and what crosses into the country. Championing the violation of our immigration laws is a rejection of the rule of law. Democrats and progressives cannot bash the Republicans for their behavior while committing the same acts. It is intellectually dishonest. My guess is the reason they support illegal immigration is that it is their gift to their corporate masters who supply them too with cash donations. Deep corruption is not solely a characteristic of one of the two faces of the one party political system.
Hello Bernanke,
Stocks generally go down when you cut Fed fund rates and generally go up when you hike Fed rates.

This Administration has only two states. The one in which they don’t have to answer questions because the subject hasn’t come up yet. And the one in which it has, there is an ongoing investigation, and the Administration refuses to comment.

thanks bilbo. i’ll take a look at it in a bit.
Sorry, I didn’t test the video before I posted it, since I had seen it earlier and it worked then. It is frightening considering how much more time he has in office and how much further he could slide into dementia, if this is the actual problem. And I don’t think it’s too unusual for families and friends to go to great lengths to cover it up, compensate for it, etc.
I’m just curious as to what the elevation of the Vatican is and whether Pope Rat can swim.
Actually, lowering interest rates makes stocks more attractive, and conversely, higher interest rates make stocks less attractive. Lower rates, higher stock prices and conversely, higher rates, lower stock prices. The effect of rate cuts is usually anticipated and stock prices move on this anticipation before the rate change is announced.
Yesterday, the big drop in stocks after the announcement of the interest rate reduction was because stock prices had already risen substantially on the belief that there would be a rate reduction of .50%. When the rate cut was only half of what was expected, prices dropped accordingly.
Really, all the people who (rightfully) complain about the Dems need to remember that things could be worse. We could be trying to defend the GOP.
