Nice choice, Suz!
Hey Suzanne!
And now goodnight for real.
{{{Suzanne}}}
Thanks to Eureka Springs who found the google video for me when we learned UTube would be down for maintenance tonight.
I like that “new post has been published” announcement at the end of the former thread. And it has a link!
g’night RonD, not far behind you here.
Teddy, that is cool isn’t it?
Well at least it wasn’t a version of Helen Reddy(sp?) singing anticipation. *s*
g’nite ronD
Preview works now too (happy dance)
clapclapclap — thanks ES
*gasp* Aiding and Abetting the foe…? That’s treasonous…! ;-)
I found a nice jazzy piano piece on google video.”Oscar Peterson & Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen,in”> Oscar Peterson & Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen,in “I love you”,Live,Prague,1974.
404!
Whoops, trying Jazz link again.
I’m so used to UTube that it took me a while to figure out how to embed a Google video in a post.
Night all.
-G
Suz, I’m not even gonna try to embed a Google vid ;-)
Nite, Ron and Greg!
Fed the News Ticker with two articles (1) about a Watchdog Group taking on the military over religion and (2) NYT piece about how Gillespie is the man pushing for the confrontation over the spending impasse.

Ooh, preview does work! Yeah! Good job, techies…!
Weatherpeople are saying 100 percent chance of freezing rain tonight, up to an inch possible. Power outages likely.

Protest
Here
is my choice. Aoi Kajitsu by Doa. Of course because once again no one else bothers to utube or google vid the actual videos of the band. I’m stuck with someone who did an AMV to Final Fantasy with it. Pure and utter rebellion off their second album, Candle.
*rocks out and chair dances*
Oh, from your mouth to God’s ears. PLEASE.
*hugs TexB*
So, the %^&)&$ protest song thang will start tomorrow. M-word days – there is a reason i don’t like them.
oh bahahah! Found one again. *glares at yet again another AMV of her favorite band again* WHY do people not youtube their videos. *sighs* Such a great band and what do i get? AMVs. *pouts*
I’ll save this one for tommororw ^^ Since i can actually translate a bit of it.
alias, i figure the delay gives us one more night to stockpile for tomorrow.
Those, and Friday the 13th’s, I simply despise them… ;-)
CT, I have a particularly strong dislike for Friday, February 13th – goes back to when I as a teen.
What is AMV?
rox!
I know Anime is the ‘A’ part of AMV…
D’oh, meant ctf4
Amateur Music Video. Or Anime Music Video if used with that medium. Basically people take rendering programs like Adobe Premiere, their favorite songs and paste them together in sometimes REALLY excellent music videos. I’ll dig up a few of them as an example. There’s comedy and then some that are as well timed as the stuff the pros do for MTV or whatever. *grins* Sometimes even better.
It’s something i wanted to do, particularly with my love of visuals and sound, just as a hobby. Of course, i’m already up to my ears in OTHER hobbies that i can’t really add another just yet. The best ones take a sense of timing and patience that is near godly to get right. But when it hits? You’re either rolling on the floor laughing with glee at the comedy? or breathless at the visual feast with the music.

Aloha, Neuro!
I’m going to start calling them the Fucked-up Research Council.
Really, what a pernicious group.
AC on AC 360, asked a spokesman, why did they have armed security… Sad…
I leave you with this.
They had armed security because that was the church founded by the former Rev. Ted Haggard – of the gay sex scandal – is what i heard.

(Thank you FDL web developers for getting Preview working!)
Hey all. Bit of a drive-by question: So we know they said before the fact that they were thinking of destroying hundreds of hours of interrogation tapes. And we know that tapes of two subjects’ interrogations were not in USG posession when requested as evidence in the Moussaoui trial. And we know that no tapes were provided to the 9/11 Commission despite their request. So OK, maybe we don’t have ‘em any more… but has anybody acknowledged actually destroying the bulk of them? I’m wondering whether they could have instead been entrusted to (or allowed to fall into the posession of) some other country, for example intelligence in Saudi Arabia or Israel or Pakistan?
Hmmm.
hmmm, are you asking if the CIA was told the tapes were destroyed but that they were really not?
Tonight on CountDown Olbermann covered an ABC interview with a fellow named John Kiriakou, who claims to have been involved in the waterboarding of Abu Zubaydah. Olbermann portrayed him as remorseful, but I just watched the ABC interview and would characterize him as “conflicted” at best. There we admissions that it was wrong mixed with claims that it was both necessary and productive, lots of good intelligence that prevented this and that. I tend to doubt this guys authenticity.
Here is a reference to an article on this ABC interview. But further googling shows that the guy is an actor, etc.
Anyone got an impression and/or some better information on this stuff? Something is rather wierd here.
i missed the KO tonight due to a phone call :(
This
is interesting:
“UBS became the latest Western bank to seek a financial lifeline from the cash-rich East Monday, selling a stake of more than 10 percent to investors from Singapore and the Middle East as it wrote down $10 billion more in mortgage-related assets.”
I posted one to the ticker last night, Margot. it is very worrisome indeed.
Hi Suzanne. OK, sure, it’s possible parts of CIA wouldn’t have known about it. Or, everybody at CIA could know about it. All we know really is, there were tapes there once, and now we’re told there aren’t any tapes there any more. Maybe they were destroyed, or maybe they were moved elsewhere and we were just told they were moved.
We’ve been told so many lies, hmmm, that it is natural for us now to assume they are lying – the old if their lips are moving they are lying reaction is starting to emerge from a lotta folk that a year ago woud have fought any allegation of a lie as untrue.
Quite.
i am hoping the press and the dem’s smell the blood in the water from one two punch of the tapes being destroyed and the obvious bush lies about the NIE and don’t get distracted by the bright shiny thing the GOP tosses out as a distraction.
I’m behind the times!
not as far behind as CT’s july 2004 one, margot (laughing)
There’s a theory over at EW’s place I find persuasive to the effect that the Jane/Nancy thing didn’t come from the Rs, but from the same CIA element that got the NIE leaked. In other words, by exposing the dirt on the D’s, the spooks have removed the thing that Team Dick had hanging over the D’s heads. So now the D’s are freer to do the right thing than before. I guess until we, in disgust, replace them with better D’s at the soonest opportunity.
I dunno, maybe we sweep out the Establishment D’s and Nobel Peace Prize Recipient Albert Gore rides into the White House on a white frickin’ horse.
With the new torture rules in the funding bill (gee, why is that running into new trouble now?) I wonder whether the CIA is forcing a legally untenable, wholly avoidable, very public situation on Team Dick that can only result in a Dickpeachment.
EW is awesome. Larry Johnson had some stuff over at his place about CIA pushback.
Correction, wholly unavoidable.
(Maybe I should actually use the Preview…)
Double crap. I used Larry’s old bookmark – he’s moved to a snazzy looking place – here is the correct link.
hmmm, you may be interested in Larry’s most current post, which includes this:
Well, like I said, just a driveby thought-dump tonight. Hoping all y’all are doing well, staying warm, and will be dreaming sweetly tonight, I remain,
Hmmm.
well that would be peachy [pause] dick
stay warm yourself, hmmm and thanks for the driveby. i think it is possible that not all the tapes were destroyed.
*tap tap tap* anybody still out there?
no, they nap! they nap!
You may have picked up on his association with Paramount, who hired him as an advisor on “The Kite Runner”. He apparently went back to Afghanistan where he served b/w 1998-2004 to find out the social impact the film might have on the people and the kids, in particular. He came back with a none too positive assessment.
But if he wasn’t a former CIA agent then I’m sure someone would have made a statement about it. He’s been critical about Bush policy in a number of interviews.
But it strongly suggests that the “interrogation” of Abu Zubaydeh in 2002 took place in Afghanistan, rather than Gitmo or elsewhere.
http://www.cfr.org/publication/14418/kiriakou.html
Hate to say it, but I found the theory very farfetched. One of the sources in the WashPo interview was Porter Goss, who served as the Republican Representative to the House Intelligence Committee…AND was the CIA Director when the tapes of the “interrogations” and other treatment of the detainees were destroyed. Goss was all over Pelosi…and I can guarantee you that he wasn’t one of those that had anything to do with the NIE. The phrasing by the authors of the Wash Po piece also cite an unnamed Congressional source who “was familiar with Pelosi’s views” who provided fairly detailed information about what she said and did at that that briefing.
The article didn’t say that this source was a “Democrat” or a “staffer”…so it could have been Goss, once again (making it appear that there are two individuals when in fact it was simply his “on the record” vs. his “off the record” responses).
But even if it wasn’t Goss, there is nothing that prevents it from being a Republican. And THAT source definitely isn’t a CIA source.
There is, parsimoniously, only one CIA official in that article. And that individual is most likely someone who was tasked to brief her. That could have been the formulator of the “interrogation policy”, or someone involved in the “interrogation”. This source is the critical “corroborator” of the “off the record” material…once again stating what was shown to Pelosi and Pelosi’s lack of concern expressed “at that time” (at the briefing). I suspect it was someone who crafted the policy as any actual interrogators would seem to be abroad.
That’s another reason why I don’t think that it was the same crowd that leaked the NIE. Steven Kappes was apparently opposed to the interrogation procedures and was asked by Goss, when he became director to fire a number of those in the Operations Division who were not “tough enough” against al Qaida. One of these was Deputy Director of Operations Robert Grenier, who was opposed to both the use of torture and Gitmo. When Kappes wouldn’t fire Grenier, Goss asked Kappes for his resignation…appointing Jose “Jack Bauer” Rodriguez (the one being fingered for the unauthorized destruction of the tapes) as his replacement.
So there is likely to be no love lost between Kappes and Goss. And Kappes, or another of his supporters, who might be involved in the leak of the NIE, would seem to be a different bunch than the ones who leaked the dirt on Pelosi. Essentially Pelosi is now in a position of being labeled a hypocrite if she opposes the continued use of waterboarding (”she was for it before she was against it”) which is perfect for someone who wants to MAINTAIN the BushCo policy. I don’t see how it helps at all the case for getting it banned.
After all, if one “releases” the information used to “blackmail” and it relates directly to the issue at hand then it diminishes the ability of the blackmailed individual to conceal that contradiction. And if Pelosi was actually keeping impeachment “off the table” because she was somewhat culpable in the torture policy…then how does this release actually “open up” impeachment. Rather it narrows the window even further. How can “torture” be a one of the Charges of Impeachment ? Because the leaders of both Houses of Congress “approved” of it.
