Put on your Sunday best PJ’s and fasten your seat belt.
We’re going to be busy progressives in the week ahead with the potential FISA vote, continuing writers’ strike, and threats of more endless WAR funding. So let this all star line-up fill your heart with the very best of spirit for the fight ahead.

ES, that is some lineup!
Nice to see you.
If this video doesn’t give you chicken skin.. seek help. *s*
Now, how did I know Mavis would be involved in this?*g*
GodFather and Mother of soul!
I really enjoyed that. Thanks, ES.
I keep looking for an extension cord running to Patti’s dress.. You know its just got to be plugged into something.
WOW ES, looks good. I’m going to sleep, but will revitalize with this first thing in a.m. Hi and goodnight to you all!
nite laura
Is Patty’s hat rabbit? Now, that’s a hat!
g’nite laura
ES, we needed some “churching up” tonight — thanks! ;-)
Excellent, ES!
Man o’ Man…Congress won’t get anything done what with the bombs that have dropped in the last week. Pelosi and Reid (or Rockefeller) are gonna spend most of the week doing damage control. The whole tape erasure bomb has shifted (conveniently for Porter Goss and Jose “Jack Bauer” Rodriguez) to “what did she know, and when”.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if no spending bills were passed before the recess…not Iraq War, not Ag, not Energy…or if they pass they are vetoed by Bush? And the FISA “Fix” bill expires…leaving Bush and the Telecomms without the as-coverage they so desperately want?
Maybe there won’t even be a Christmas recess for these folks?
time for me to get some sleep. night all.
He he, don’t think I didn’t think about that when reading TSF earlier.
Lyle doing Church
pain free sleep wishes tex
g’night Betsy, rest well.
Suz, you know I love me some Lyle, and that is a good ‘un!
Hi Loo Hoo. Here’s something good from the North County Times: http://www.nctimes.com/article…..2_7_07.txt
Then there is Los Lonely Boys
I worry that it’s equally likely that, with the shitstorm to come, they may just try to sneak them through. And they could pull it off. They are, after all, likely in league on this stuff.
Wouldn’t that be shocking. I say NO recess as long as you fund the war and destroy the 4th amendment.
Here’s one of the greats.
Blues Brothers get some churchifying
*gnashing my teeth here and wishing I could figure out how to add links*
Oh my, the possibilities. Good thing Waxman is a patient man.
nite all.
p.s. thanks for getting friday’s sheldon whitehouse youtube seen (over a thousand views so far), i think it was all your (the late night crew) doing 2 nights ago.
And, can’t you just imagine the squealing?
But, boys, if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. ;-)
selise, that utube needs to been seen by millions. glad we were able to help spread the word.
crap, forgot to include by g’nite to selise in my comment
g’nite selise
LL, you see that chain looking thing?
find your utube
come back to the submit comment box and type in the name you wish to give to the utube
highlight the name with your mouse and then click on the chain link looking thing between the ” and the spellchecker that does not work yet.
a box will pop up that give you the http already filled in – remove that if it is there and then cut and paste the URL into the space provided.
click ok and we will all click our heels 3 times and hope it works
Thanks! I should read the North County Times more, I suppose…
FORK.. utube is down
Night, selise, and thank YOU!
Suz, I will try that again — Margot kindly sent me similar instructions earlier, and I tried ‘em at the end of the last Late Late thread — going hunting for YouTubes and I’ll be back in a sec…
Dang, just saw your message, Suz…well, I’ll try again another time.
Is YTube down? Here and “that other blog” all the YTube slots are just blank?
Is there a rabbit hat in this one, ES?
I gotta admit, as a non-committed Democrat that Oprah and the Obama’s put on a heckuva show in Manchester tonight.
-G
sure hope its just maintenance… Tomorrow night is the kick-off to Late Late Nite: Protest Nation protest song fest/contest.
Yup, thanks Suzanne.
Jesus H. Tap-dancing Christ, I have seen the light.
-G
I’ve never seen YouTube down before. Perhaps there were some torture tubes up!
Back up!
Leann Rimes.
oh geez, guess we will have to talk about off topic stuff while we wait for utubes to come back up.
29,000 people came out in South Carolina to see the Oprah & Obama show
glad you liked that one greg
I love pill box hats. Rabbits are for the yard. I have at least half a dozen in mine at any given time.
*humming theme to Jeopardy while waiting for utube to go back up*
QUESTION– How many government Republicans does it take to screw in a light bulb?
QUICK ANSWER– They can’t. They can only screw it up.
THOUGHTFUL ANSWER– Just two, assuming they can fit into it.
REAL ANSWER– They don’t have to. That’s what billion dollar no-bid contracts are for.

Testing….

They’re back up Suz!

*doing a Snoopy dance* Thank you Suz!
More on Le Stenchster:

Hey Loo Hoo!
You guys got some weather down there?
I love this whole CD of Joan doing cover songs.
This is just awful. I pity any candidate having to deal with idiots like this.
I like the pic of Big Ben, LL.
Sorry, “rest”?
E-mail seems to be fubar. Need to contact my guru by phone, hopefully Monday, for a talk-thru’ to try to avoid muckin’ up something (he’s 400 physical miles away and I’m at least three weeks from direct access). :-(
Thanks Loo Hoo :-)
I’m sure MAN TECH was contributing to Hoyer’s campaign cuz they though he was the best defender of the Constitution. What else could it be?
We did! Looked out my window this morning, and snow on the mountains. It was cold and windy all day. How about you?
Have yourself a scary little Christmas.
A little holiday trauma for the kids.
-G
dot com
Well, I would say it’s cold here (high 40’s, low 50’s), but 35 miles away is Suzanne’s stomping ground, and it’s near freezing there. Lest I be called a wimp, I’ll just say that it’s chilly and we’re having rain on and off.
testing again
you are two for two ll
yee haw! Thank you Suz, you have helped me to break on through to the other side *g*
and on that note, whew…I’m exhausted. Good night all!
nice doors reference, LL – sleep well
bad santa (heheheheh)
OK, I think I just figured out who GregB is.
-ES
gonna share ES?
Speakin of Music, Sheryl Crow really belted out an awesome song, “Shine on Babylon”, during CNN’s special show honoring “CNN HEROES”; check it out, she really captures how most of us are feeling about being so disgusted totally with how everything is so totally “off track” here in Amerika!
Tom Brokaw’s special on HISTORY channel “1968 With Tom Brokaw” is also really great, if you’re a Boomer like me, or even if you’re not; only thing bad about it, Brokaw turned to Nixon’s crappy political nutjob, Pat Buchanan, I guess to give the right-wing’s view of 1968, the Vietnam War, & what it all meant. WHY in God’s name the Media gives one of NIXON’s fellow cronies & War Criminals such a prominent role as a Guest on their News shows?
The Smothers Brothers talked about their show, which was taken off the Air even though it was WILDLY popular, because their jokes about Nixon, the Vientam War, politicians, etc., were too “truthy”: the “Daily Show” of the 60’s.
Speaking of which: Anyone else wondering if one reason the big corporate Media companies don’t want to negotiate with the WRITERS, during the TV Writer’s Strike, might just be because during this PRIMARY election season, they don’t have to worry about “The DAILY SHOW” or other COMEDIANS making the “establishment” presidential candidates look like the total Morons they are?
The “Truthiness” Squad has been sidelined as effectively by the Writer’s Strike deadlock, as “Politically Incorrect” was by being canceled by ABC; or by “Smothers Brothers” being canceled!
wow, i had not even thought of it in those terms.
Made a note of address.
With any luck, the tech problems at the Lake will be solved before the “dummies” version is finished……but I ain’t holdin’ my breath.
I better leave that to GregB.
I had a feeling that Sheryl Crow song was good, but I couldn’t understand a word she sang, and wondered if CNN messed up the vocal track on purpose.
the sheryl crow video for shine over babylon
Is it available on the net? Or better yet, what is the name of the song?
Dang Suz. Quick draw mod with DSL.
TeddySanFran: here’s my old Boomer tip on Song Lyrics: put your TV remote on “MUTE”; then u can read the words as he/she sings them. I had trouble with understanding her too, so I watched that part of the CNN Special again when it re-ran.
Neither had I. But in the meantime, WaPo tells the story of what a fighter Mittens was serving the mission in France.
Others were serving in Viet Nam.
Dang Suz. Quick draw mod with DSL.
I am a fast and dangerous woman with the utubes now that I have DSL.
I know who GregB is…tee hee!
I have a guess but I don’t wanna say.. other than there was a nice write up in the SF Chronicle this week (or was it last)
It would have been a heck of a situation if everyone had changed screen names, but it would have been kinda fun!
Is Christy back tomorrow?
I’m not sure – was she taking a week or two weeks, LooHoo?
Christy sure did time it nicely, taking vacation just as we were rolling out the new system (laughing)
Shine on Babylon lyrics
Brilliant move on her part! I believe she was taking two weeks. Hasn’t it been that long?
Did that work?
sweet, thanks for the lyrics neuro
Hooray. My first successful embedded link!
Congratulations, neurophius!!!
btw, what does your name mean?
woohoo.. snoopy dancing for neuro’s first link
it means nothing. I was just fooling around with some syllables and came up with that and it stuck. I suppose I was trying to come up with something that sounded vaguely classical, don’t know if I succeeded.
Sounded Greek to me. In a classical way.
i always think brain when i see your name. i thought maybe you were a brain surgeon or researcher or neurologist maybe.
I am not, but I would like to think that my brain is one of my better attributes…
i don’t know about your other attributes, but your brain has always impressed me neuro. you have some great comments you bring to the discussions.
Amy Winehouse’s mom wants her to come home.
Then why should we bother? After all if all the work we do calling, writing letters, and other acts are simply worthless…because they are going to ignore it all…then why not just immigrate?
I started reading Mikhail Bakunin’s “God and the State” today. Right up there with Wilhelm Reich’s “The Mass Psychology of Fascism” in my book.
hey ET – nice to see you.
And you! Just below freezing, with a faint glitter of pre-holiday snow on the ground. Getting ready to finish off the semester this coming week, with finals coming up.
The WashPost “Mittens” story was creepy! It was like Romney went through the Vietnam years totally not giving a damn, like he & his fellow Missionaries were visiting some from other PLANET, like Aliens (like in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” or “THEM”–which a really cool sci fi movie, about Aliens who look like People, but if you had these special Sunglasses, you could see what they really looked like’
From the WashPost description, Mitt seems like the type of Dear Leader who could fit this definition:
“Evil is a LACK OF EMPATHY, a total incapacity to feel with their fellowman.” –Capt. Gilbert, Psychiatrist attending Nuremberg Trials
When I lived in Florida, you’d see these weirdly “clone-like” young men, dressed in idential black suits, white shirts, dress shoes, ties; riding by twos on bicycles; it was just the weirdest, eeriest feeling thing to see. I think they were Mormons, but didn’t know it at the time.
Here in the Bible Belt where I live now, we get the wonderful, wonderful “Jehovah’s Witnesses” knocking on our doors, but they don’t scare me, they’re just harmless nuisances.
Thank God the right-wing nutjob fundamentalist evangelicals would let HELL freeze over, before voting for a Mormon for President! I know, I’ve got a few in my own family tree, unfortunately.
Thanks!
et, i’m down to 38 – we got down to 31 last nite and only hit 51 today for a high. damp bitter get into the bones kinda cold (spitting)
I’m hopeful…sometimes. Although the “Save The” FISA (which actually meant “Destroy” FISA) act was produced in August under such a “deadline” as was the abominable Homeland Security Law.
But maybe someone will see some sense this time and block the FISA law if it contains anything about amnesty, or Haggis’ “shifting responsibility to the Federal Gov’t”. I wouldn’t mind a “limitation on financial penalty”, however. Maybe $100,000 per incident or a maximum of $10 million per individual would be a sufficient deterrent, and certainly not result in the bankruptcy of these firms (since they only surveilled a tiny, limited, few select individuals without a warrant, right? ;-)
And if these were really terrorists intent on a nefarious plot to destroy the second Bush inauguration then I’m sure they could make a case in court and a jury would have mercy upon them.
NOT!
21 degrees f in NE KS, possibility of freezing rain overnight
Worth repeating.
I hear Mormons believe the Garden of Eden is in Missouri. I must say there are some mighty nice areas in MO, but I have been all over MO, and there is no Garden of Eden.
That is the way the mormans travel, AWB. After the wildfires, a woman and three boys dressed in bright yellow tshirts came to my door and brought about $100 worth of cleaning supplies and offered clean-up services, though. It was one of those generous offers that made me uncomfortable…
By haggis you mean spector? I know what a haggis is but why do people call him that?
Thanks, Suzanne!
And good nite….
neuro, ok, reading that made me feel lots warmer. yeouch. i got kin in arksansas city, ks. on my dad’s side.
Something about Scottish law. Marcy coined the term a couple of years ago.
Thanks, neuro!
Spectre voted Not Proven in the Clenis impeachment trial, saying it was a valid determination based in Scottish Law, thus the nick Haggis.
thanks Tedddy
Have you ever been to “Shaw’s Botanical Gardens” in St. Louis, MO? It seemed like a Garden of Eden when I was a little kid, beautiful.
I’ve been watching “Orangutan Island” on Animal Planet, about this Island where they’re trying to save Orphan Orangutans who’ve been killed due to various Human activities, like killing their mothers, etc. The Island looks like the Garden of Eden might look, & our fellow Primates probably would wish, if they could, that God had transported “Homo Sapiens” to another Planet, when we were “banished from the Garden of Eden”.
Ditto for the Mountain Gorillas; I guess my grandkids will witness the Extinction of both. But ole’ Mitt Romney & Huckabee don’t believe in Evolution, so it’s no skin off THEIR backs if these “animals” disappear!
I have heard of haggis the food dish. Sounds as disgusting as Spector’s spineless habit of saying the right thing and then voting the wrong way. Perhaps that is what Marcy had in mind.
haggis
Orangutan Island
PBS had a show on that area recently. Beautiful. I could live out my days there.
I beginnin’ to have some pity for Ames. Paparazzi making a bunch of noise outside her house at 6 AM and then when she comes out with her hair down and all sleepy faced they pounce on her. It’s pretty clear that she wasn’t out-all-night on a bender…she didn’t have her iconic big-hair up and raccoon eyes on.
I think her Mum is likely making more of the pics than she should. But her recent behavior is more of concern. Hopefully she can pull herself together. Quite a vocal talent.
ok, pups, i’m off. have to get ready for the great protest song contest starting tomorrow night in late late nite. be sure to stock up on your fav protest songs (liberal rules – if it is a song and it is protesting, submit it). ES is still around and can answer any questions ya have about it.
g’nite all
Good night, Suzanne.
nite Suz! Will be here for the play-off!
And good night, all.
Nite Suz, I am on my way to the land of quilts.. it’s 3 a.m. and freezing rain.
See you all on the flip.
nite eureka
im gone as well, will return for the contest
That thought came to me a couple of times with some of the last week’s more outrageous headlines. Without TDC et al., it’s pretty much just KO fighting the tide.
More on Huck and the Quarantine of HIV positives.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..r/huckabee
It seems that Huck is nonapologetic…but doesn’t explain how his plan to “isolate” people wasn’t a “quarantine”.
Maybe he meant having them wear a big “A” on them and shunning? Or maybe putting them in HAZMAT suits?
And what’s that tale about the dentist passing on HIV? I have heard about nurses obtaining HIV from needle sticks, but that one seems odd. Did the dentist get bit while doing oral surgery? Seems very low probability!
Hey, cinnamon age -
Attaturk’s awake…coffee brewin’ upstairs.
Oh, I *miss* preview!
Ah!
So it was Rumi!
Blasphemous, yes, but there is only one response I have to listening to Patti LaBelle belting out in that vid: gawddamn.
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing her perform once, way back in the very early ’80’s as an opening act for of all people Jimmy Buffett. Jeepers, but she has an incredible set of pipes.
And now that I’ve caught up on my churching and blasephemy…happy Monday, see you up the stairs.
