Or will a certain nutty segment of America, along with our media overlords, begin to lose their Huckaboner, in light of. . .
this (from Blue Texan’s new man crush):
Two former parole board members in Arkansas said yesterday that as governor, Mr. Huckabee met with the board in 1996 to lobby them to release the convicted rapist, Wayne DuMond, whose case was championed by evangelical Christians.
“He expressed his concerns about DuMond’s guilt,” said Deborah Suttlar, a former parole board member. “He felt he deserved to be released.”
Mr. DuMond went on to murder a Missouri woman after his parole. He died in prison of natural causes in 2005.
Paging Mike Dukakis? Oh Mr. Dukakis? No? Well then let’s page Magic Johnson (from the same article):
Highlighting the new scrutiny of Mr. Huckabee’s record, The Associated Press revealed yesterday that as a candidate for the United States Senate in 1992, Mr. Huckabee said in a response in a 229-question survey that he believed that AIDS patients should be isolated from the public and that homosexuality was an “aberrant, unnatural and sinful lifestyle” that posed a “dangerous public risk.”
Fears of AIDS spreading widely in the United States were common in the mid-1980s, as doctors struggled to learn about how the virus that causes the disease was transmitted. But by the time Mr. Huckabee answered the A.P. survey, it was well established that the virus could not be spread through casual contact.
Gosh, I sure hope Huckabee has never done any windsurfing or even snow skiing, at least, not on camera, in light of this, in Huckabee’s own words from the recent Florida debate:
It accomplished two things that we knew we wanted to do, and that is, number one, bring people from illegal status to legal status.
And the second thing, we wanted people to be taxpayers, not tax- takers. And that’s what that provision did.
. . .followed so soon after (no doubt prompted by frantic shrieks and caterwauls from Huckster’s donors and consultants) by this:
BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) — Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee says he’d seal the Mexican border, hire more agents to patrol it and make illegal immigrants go home before they could apply to return to this country.
"It’s tough, but I also think it’s fair, giving people 120 days to go back and then start the process all over," the former Arkansas governor said Friday. "People will say, ‘Well, how will they go back?’ Well, they got here. They’ll figure out the same way they got here to go back."
Maybe Fred Thompson can console poor Parole Board Mike. It can’t be easy being the GOP’s former future great white hope.
The Univision debate tonight could be fun.

Can Huck win? Speaking for myself, I never thought Reagan could win the Govornershp of California, much less the presidency. Same for GWB. Huckabee could pull it off. Lord help us.
Pachacutec – You are on fire today!
But that can’t be right. Huckabee is the sort of person that Americans would want to have a beer with. Or drink a whole bunch of beers everytime they see him. One of those.
Another “likeable” religious fanatic, Republican former guv, from a ’southern state’? Why not?
OMG PUT IT OUT PUT IT OUT!
Whatever position Huck took in 1992, in his heart of hearts he is the same today. He is so desperate for the most powerful position in the land, he’ll say whatever it takes to get a vote. After all, you just reverse yourself once you are in office. No one has a public epiphany unless you need that kind of publicity to make a quantum leap into the arms of power.
Huckabee is a popular figure, but Wall Street (and hence MSM) has no interest in a populist and will not give him any support. Why do you think Bush Sr. introduced Romney for his “religion” talk, and why did MSM run it on all three stations? They want anyone but a populist (which is also why they are opposed to Edwards.
Kiddo,
Scary as it sounds to people like us, Huckabee appears to be perfect for Republicans:
1. Homophobic
2. Hates immigrants
3. Thinks rape and murder are justified as long as it is done to a relative of Clinton
4. I a racist and panders to the racist elements that continue to disguise as “religious conservatives”
In one word, he’s perfect (as far as Republicans are concerned).
Of course any of the Democrats should trounce him in the election, but we know the Democrats can always find defeat at the jaws of victory. Scary to think we could have Huckabee as president. I thought GWB could not be any worse than Reagan and boy did he prove me wrong. I am starting to research countris to take my family if a Republican wins the WH again.
Fuck Huckabee and all those other GOP cartoon characters. Two of my first three friends who died of AIDS, were hemophiliacs, infected by a poorly managed blood supply. Inaction on the blood supply issue early on – the mid-80s – was fueled by the intransigence and superstitions of people with minds as small as Huckabee’s.
The paroling of a serial power rapist is never a good idea, from my 13 years experience in law enforcement/public safety.
When did conservatives decide it was ok to be soft on crime? This campaign just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
DOC – Stay with us and fight the good fight. Don’t let “scared” enter your vocabulary nor decisions.
I think you’re spot-on when it comes to Huckabee and Wall Street, but using Bush 41’s introduction Romney as evidence is off base. Bush 41 introduced Romney, because Bush has made an open offer to all the GOP candidates to come to his library and speak. (Similar to the offer Jane and Christy have made to Democratic candidates, and IIRC, only Dodd and Clinton have taken them up on the offer.) I wouldn’t read too much into this.
They aren’t. Huck just has a penchant for serial rapists ;)
I take the possibility of another Republican win very seriously. I don’t discount any of the GOP’s contenders. We have to ‘get’ the indies and make sure the Dems don’t stay home on election day. Otherwise we are going to be sunk. Our leadership needs to pound the Republicans on Iraq and the economy, and tie Bush to Huckabee. Time is getting short.
President Huckabee. Has a real ring to it. Given the intellect of the American public and their ability to be herded like sheep we shouldn’t be surprised at a President Huckabee.
But what do you really think, ET?
*g*
Speaking of cartoon characters, I’ve been watching the fun with the Pete Kott trial . . . Sounds like the judge was not amused.
idiot Yoo on CNN now.
A preacher for president. That’s rugged.

Well, the Huckster may be “religious” – but he ain’t ethical, especially with public money. Check this out:
http://www.realchange.org/huckabee.htm#publicmoney
Also note in the article the business about him trying to give money to the hospital where the doctor who ‘helped’ him lose weight was on staff – and notice what happened in that little endeavor!
Ahem.
Some of my best friends are preachers . . .

Pach, you’re really busy this a.m.,,huh?
Imagine a Huckabee presidency? Oh, God.
Speaking of imagining things, this isn’t so much imagining things as a weired thought that popped into my head last night. I’m walking along looking at all the city sidealks dressed in holiday style. In the air was a feeling of Christmas. People passing. Children laughing. Meeting smile after smile. And I thought: “Scooter Libby should be in fucking jail.” ya know? he shouldn’t be enjoying any of this.
Not that i’m one to call attention to myself…….. (my wife says i have “look at me” syndrome). But today’s my birthday. Tomorrow, Christmas season can begin.
I thought only idiots would vote for Reagan and no one would take him seriously given what a bad governor he was. But what would I know. I lived on an island and in a yellow submarine in a place called Berkeley. I was slapped silly when I visited my New Orleans family and heard repeatedly how much they “really like” my governor. I was stunned. I tried educating them but their minds were fixed like the 2000 election and the rest is history.
I really thought no one would vote for GW whose thought process was clearly reflected in his mastery of the English language – muddy and stuck in it. I now take nothing for granted.
This morning on Fox News Sunday, former governor Mike Huckabee acknowledged that he previously advocated quarantining AIDS patients, but said he would not “recant” from that position.
One has to wonder what other ‘groups’ of people Mr. Huck would like to segregate?
Happy Birthday ! Have a wonderful day. Is it okay if I Christmas shop now that your day is past?
I feel the same way. 100%. Reagan got away with so much bullshit, i’ve never put anything past anybody again. Throw in a war where dissent – even questioning – is unAmerican, and this guy gets away with everything. Could happen again. Anytime.
I like the name
huckster
heh…
FDL
Tomorrow. Yes.
Happy birthday Beerfart!
Point taken. One of my favorite people in the world is a Southern Baptist minister. But he ain’t like Preacher Huck. Merry Christmas. ;0)
Thanks
buddydearie.imagine a huckster presidency
it would be Shrub’s third term
Speaking of cartoon characters, I’ve been watching the fun with the Pete Kott trial . . . Sounds like the judge was not amused.
Judges generally look unfavorably upon those who get caught lying through their teeth at trial when it comes time for sentencing. Still waiting for the next shoe(s) to drop. Will it be oil bribes, fishery bribes and kickbacks, sweet real estate deals or something we don’t have an inkling of yet….?
zactly.
and egregious, girls can be buddies, too, i guess.
Happy Birthday and celebrate like hell! So what’s a year or two among friends :D
What is most striking about the Huckster rise however, as Rich pointed out, is that in some ways he is asking people to envisage a “better” America (supporting education for the children of immigrants for example). What this suggests is that many Rethug voters are in favor of a more humane treatment at least of some. And we already know that the numbers are on our side on support for gays and HIV/AIDs.
I assume Mr. Huckabee supports the Bush Iraq policy. Is that right?
But what if the President thinks the judge is too hard on – no, not hard on. lemme try again. what if the Prseident think the judge sentences the liar too harshly? it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to intervene and reduce the sentence, would it?
OK. Who spamed me that? – “You’re not getting any younger” I want you to know I cherish my mental regression;-)
LOL. wasn’t me. Could somebody run through the milestone birthdays and what they really are? Like 40 is the new 30 or whatever. Um, keep goin’. 50 is the new ……?
Can I get some diggness?
:->
I’m starting to do an article on Ray Metcalfe, the champion-level muckraker who filed the week before last to run against Sen. Ted Stevens. Ray Metcalfe says that W tried to shut down the DOJ/FBI Alaska investigations back in 2006, but was faced by a very quiet but effective revolt – mostly from the FBI, both in Alaska and DC.
W isn’t going to waste any time pardoning these people. He only pardons those who could hurt him if they turned, and there’s no link from the WH to the AK corruption scandals. Yet…
50 is the new 30. It really is.
From Murray’s piece:
Thanks Steve-AR.

I suspect that there is a gold mine in all of those pardons…More “Dumond” stories for the anti-Huckster Goopers to dig into.
Very nice of you to say that. I told my kids so. They were skeptical. No, they thought I was full of shit. I’m not there today. But bearing down on it.
Biden wants independent investagation on CIA http://abcnews.go.com/Politics…..id=3974856
husker, gooli and the rest, please come clean,,, you really just use GOD you do’nt believe in him.
Yeah. And besides, if he pardons someone or commutes their sentence, there’s sure to be a media uproar, right?
Our laws are based on help and harm who is harmed by the Gay’s being Gay. How do Gay’s by existing threaten marriage? Ok fine there are a lot of married Republicans in the closet their marriages would be threatened. But how does it harm a straight person’s marriage unless they are tempted in the first place?
I’m not tempted, So I am confident enough not to worry if I ever do get married, granted other women though would continue to be a temptation.
We should ask Huck if the reason he is so antigay is because he sees the gay lifestyle as a temptation.
Shades of Mike Dukukie! The more centrist republican,
Mr G. et als, employs the same tactics utilized against the geek when Horton ran, then killed, while out of prison on a weekend parole, in the Duke’s own state. The kiss of death. Don’t let America get Huckabeeded, we have been sphinchterized enough already with compasionate conservatism!
This antigay stance by Huck is a religious view this is why Church and State are separated he should not be forcing his views on the rest of us.
He should not use Aids as an excuse to separate/quarantine Gays from the rest of America.
This is just another attempt to use *cough* science to further his religious views.
So glad to see more of you on the front page, Pach.
Especially when you’re ripping apart the Huck-ster.
Just like the American Japanese Citizens were quarantined on suspicion of being infected with the “JapaneseImperialAbsolutism Virus,” after Pearl’s attack!!
I hate to say it but any Democratic President would be wise to put Hilary on the ticket as VP if the Huck is on the GOP ticket. That would keep the Arkansas parole story alive.
I would love to see Bill take Huck down for paroling a rapist just because the rapists raped Bill’s cousin.
I mean just how bad does the GOP hate Bill that they would do that? Just how twisted is their world view that they think that makes sense.
It would show America just ow crazy Huck,Newt, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Bill O’Reily and Rush really are.
Tell my 58 year old rear end that next time I try to play defense against a 30 year old on the B-Ball court!
That implies America gives a flying fuck.
try a soccer pitch under the same conditions….
Muslims are next I’m sure, Huck already wants to deport undocumented workers (code for Brown People). But I’m sure he will stay quiet about all the white undocumented workers in this country because the tools at the Networks will give him a pass on debate questions.
OT – Completely Random Thought on the Torture Tapes:
if the Administration didn’t do anything wrong, why would they worry ’bout a little investigation?
No thanks, I’m trying to stick to a mile a day in the water. I miss the contact but my body likes it!
Knowing what a huckster Huckabee is, do you suppose he’s selling all these commutations? Just thinkin’
A presidential candidate who Paroles Rapists? Hmm if America doesn’t care and elects Huck then I’m leaving. The Batshit Insane 30%ers can have this country then!
that’s right, can’t afford to get hurt!!!
Teehee! Like what they tell us about the Patriot Act, if you have nothing to hide why would you care who listens in on your private conversations and e-mails. I love the way your mind works. And their boomerang returns.
Debate question for the Huck why does God hate gay people? Or is it only your God? It certainly is not my GOD!
You campaign on the Sabbath don’t you? eat pork, do you think the Bible’s position on slavery is right?
Come on Preacher answer the question!
Morality has moved past the Bible we think, we question, we decide for ourselves thats at least if your a Lefty!
It seems that all the Repub candidates have disappeared except Mitt, Huck and the Ghoul – where are they? I don’t even see anything about them in the news. There’s been no dirt on Fred at all – why?
My greatest fear….Romney/Huckabee.
Quarantine HIV positive people.
Round up illegal aliens.
Mandatory Religion.
Nuke all brown people in the world.

Cofer Black and Jose Rodriguez as the new SSand implementing their orders.Yeah, Ghouliani sounds better…OMG, what kind of choice is that…
This just cannot happen…
Was selling, not is selling. Sloppy writing on my part.
Have they looked at the stock market and housing prices? Have they even heard about the subprime bailout why if the economy is so good does Bush need to bail those guys out?
Christian Rock Noooo!
Oh…and shut down all blogs, except Michelle Malkin and her ilk.
the rest are taking cover in anticipation of the pending “cosmic event” making them extinct, like the dionsaurs?
Christianity is a multitrillion dollar business. Poor baby Jesus.

…..and tax exempt!!!!
Malkin Noooo! Its the Apocalypse!
The moneychangers in the temple are happy though!
Damn. I missed again. I’m in the wrong business. I need a PreacherGirl job.
May be but the MSM ignores them completely. Since the MSM was so excited about Saint John I thought they would at least follow his campaign and Fred is sorta interesting because of his indifference to the whole thing. Just don’t get it.

If you’re a politician or a “person of the cloth” and you can’t keep religion out of politics, or politics out of religion, then the view here is you belong in neither profession.
Still I can’t believe this pathetic bailout will get the GOP any votes. As people try to qualify and find out how limited this program is their hopes dashed will turn to anger.
Which will not be good news for the GOP come election day. In fact I predict that angry voters will make a point of voting against the GOP.
We just need real numbers on who is losing their homes and where to predict the electoral fallout.
Which will be magnified by the friends and relatives of these newly homeless who open their homes and wallets to the people who lost their homes.
If I had to live with my relatives because they lost their home for a week I’d be cursing up a blue streak at Bush every time the shower ran out of hot water after my morning people relatives used up all the hot water.
Freedom Christian Academy is the number Shrub gave to the world?
The candidate who believes and practices the Golden Rule, no matter the political party, gets my vote. And that’s a fact.
A very limited program; and, then, they’ll be on another effin’ Bush hit-list. (Note to self: Bush cronies will get control of these houses$$$.)

Freedom Christian Academy is the number Shrub gave to the world?
(That) was no effin’ accident!
Such a simple premise and yet some will never get it! A nexus between words spoken and actions taken is required. Heck. actions are usually much louder than words………….
I suppose the debate is did something ’start everything’, or did it ‘just happen’? But this argument should have nothing to do with politics. Otherwise our politicians would be discussing issues such as the Ontological Argument. I don’t see that happening.
I think it’s the Jeebus get out of jail card.

Huckabee is the second coming of racism, homophobia, aids ignorance, religious intolerance, use of the penal system for advantage not justice, re-enforcement of constant war against brown people, and weight watchers.
Is it called the Barrabas card?

Let the market solve the sub prime… leave the gov out of it. Get gov out of the market. yea right. What a bunch of losers.
I’d like to see some serious polling about how the Americans see huckiepoo. If there is more than small support, you can write this country off, there is little hope, we are a nation of profoundly stupid, uneducated people. That assumes that they know what he is about.
But if they portray huckiepoo as he is and there is support considerable support, or for ghouliani, it’s time to seriously think about moving to Canada or Mexico.
Could we condemned to W’s and Huckiepoos forever? ICK

Surprise, surprise!. Bush lovers through and through!
That’s not why women wear pants. They are warm and comfortable and when the candidates walk out to the edge of the stage before or after debates, the people down front would get a little more than she should show.
Should have said “if she were wearing a dress” – besides that, who cares if she’s wearing a clown suit. It’s not about her clothes, her hair, or her husband.

Just when I think it can’t get worse than my imagination can take it, W’s cynicism out does my worst nightmares.
that’s where blogging comes in; (it) is news that stays news!
I saw the same rumor that Huckabee indeed told the state’s parole board that he supported the release of a convicted rapist at: http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/011450.php , there has been much dispute over it. I think it’s rather obvious that Huckabee won the debate big. It’s why he surged into first place in the polls. But I like his book” Character Makes a Difference”, which is the great insight into the life. I am impressed by his words. Here is the book I found http://dealstudio.com/searchde…..l_id=71709 , anyone who is interested in him can have a look at it!
