A Newsweek poll shows that Huckabee now leads Romney by at 2-1 margin in Iowa among likely caucus-goers, and AP/Ipsos has him in second place nationwide. As TBogg rightly notes, America has a Huckaboner:
Yes, people of all stripes ( and by "all stripes" I mean everyone from the Pentacostalists to the Charismatics and all of the snake handlers in between) like Mike…And if there is anyone that I want to entrust our nation’s future to, it is a group of people who can’t wait to get to the Double-wide In The Sky.
The rest of us, however, are a wee bit nervous about handing over the reigns of government to a man who wants to isolate AIDS patients, cut funding for research and thinks homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk."
And I’m no econo wonk (or, as Marcy says, IANAE), but I may be even more excited about his plan to deport five percent of the workforce:
In a major reversal, Mike Huckabee announced a new immigration plan that calls for the 11-12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States to leave the country in 120 days.
It isn’t just the denial Huck is in over Wayne Dumond. As Cliff Schecter says, "the crazy is starting to show."

Jane!
That Mike Huckabee, he’s one wacky guy.
Frankly, I can’t decide on which is potentially more dangerous. Huck, Mittie or Rudy?
Who’s gonna pay $20 for a head of lettuce, or $50/hour for yard work? Oh, that’s right, the oligarchs are.
I don’t think that’s a prize worth awarding. All of these guys are too dangerous to be allowed to win this election, by definition.
PeteCO linked to this earlier..looks like a goldmine of Huckabee’s poor judgment.
The Leader
Huckabee is one crazy mofo. The Repugs deserve him if they nominate him. As for his chances in the general? Fat chance! Pigs will fly first.
Well, I suppose if the Dow can climb 900 points in Nine Days, Huckleberry Hound can beat Romney 2 to 1…
What does make sense?
In fact, all the Repug prez candidates are crazy mofos in one way or the other, except Freddie, who’s just lazy and benighted.
Now Teddy, do you really think the oligarchs would pay $50/hour for yard work? They’ll always find someone that they can pay the lowest possible rate just to brag to the folks at the Country Club about how they screwed over the yard worker.
I remember thinking that before Bush II became Prez…
I like to imagine that Fred is as crazy as the others. It’s just that his particular illness involves catatonia.
Justice Department/CIA inquiry into destroyed evidence.
Hucksterbee acts like no one has looked at this issue and weighed the costs
here is one from 2005
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..05_pf.html
I was shocked in 2000 when Chimpy was elected. I was in more shock when he was re-elected in 2004, in spite of all that came out about BushCo in books and the first drafts of history. But Huckabee? You’ve got to be kidding.
How can America get it’s religious wackos to leave? I’d gladly take any illegal immigrant over any creationist flat worlder. If America is to survice it has to deal with what to do with the flat worlders more than illegals.
No mention yet of a preservation order from Mukasey, though, which the Hamdan attorney said last nite on Countdown was a critical component of any valid investigation. “What’s being shredded as we speak?”
I wish I were kidding. Hopefully, I’m just a jaded cynical grouch and off by a mile.
In 2000, Bush pretended not to be batshit insane. Huckabee doesn’t have anybody coaching him in such subtleties.
Also: I’d be real leary about a guy who says he lost about 100 pounds just dieting, eating the right foods, and exercising when he simply might have had surgery. I know an online progressive journalist who’s digging into that. (But I don’t want to out him.)
If Mr. Huckabee were to become the next prez, and he very well could pull it off, then the time may come when we view GWB as liberal by comparision. Same goes for Rudy and Mitt. A lot of Americans are actually in tune with the attitudes and assumptions of Huckabee. No matter what Republican may win, if that were to happen, then ‘things’ will really start popping in the Middle East. I mean Mitt and Huck are “rapture” and Armadeddon types. It’s the nature of the beasts. It defines them in a way peculiar to so called Christian fanatics. Possibe very scary times ahead.

It seems like a common thread for letting these people out of prison is a preacher telling Huck; “the the person is re-born and has found the Jeebus.”
Sounds like Jesus should have been given time for a rebuttal.
madness, madness, madness
let only those who have read and understand Elmer Gantry anywhere near a voting booth.
And Gates, Bush and Rice are running all over the place effectively screaming ‘we need to crush Iran’. Remember when people were saying that Gates was going to so much better than Rumesfeld?
I didn’t believe them.
Yea. Real questions of judgment.
It would be kinda fun to see Huck VS Hill in a debate, though wouldn’t it. I’m usually for the underdog, but my inner pitbull would come out in that contest!
I have heard the same thing..probably 80% chance it is true. A little, after usual business hours, surgical intervention. My guess would be a Lap Band.
CarpetBagger has been following Elmer Huckesterbee’s pronouncements closely all week; start here-
http://www.thecarpetbaggerrepo…..13858.html
A commenter over there said earlier this week that anyone who professes a literal belief in an omniscient, all powerful entity that created the universe in seven days should bear an extreme burden of proof that they were fit to be president of a major industrial nation.
I can’t find the quote, because I’d like to attribute it. It shocked me that anyone should find it necessary to even make the point.
I thought Ron Paul was nutty enough for most GOPers, but Huckabee is giving him a run for the money.
That HUCKABEE – PAUL 2008 bumper sticker will go nicely on the back of my ‘73 Chevy pickup truck. Just below the stars-’n-bars and just above the tailpipe spewing bluish oil smoke.
I can’t wait for the Press the Meat Interview
It can only be good for Republicans
Wow. Way too fast for the Bushies.
Who are they throwing under the bus?
Divert attention to NIE?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Labor costs are shrinking as construction workers continue to face layoffs. The Aristocrats endeavor to pay $5 per hour for lawn care or better still, $5 for the whole job. They may face a $20 for a head of lettuce, though b/c they will be buying it from themselves.
Time to buy seeds.
And this is a little scary, to say the least:
You know I’m sick of all candidates.
Let’s call em all back to the Senate for a Grand Impeachment Party.
I think Sean Penn has swayed me?
Perhaps we should get a bit of a head start on communication matters. Forget learning a foreign language. I’m seriously condsidering learning how to ‘talk in tongues’.
If a potential Democrat candidate had that kind of a record they probably wouldn’t even bother to run. I want to see how the law’n’order jeezoids achieve the pretzel-like mental contortions necessary to continue supporting their last, best hope.
Popcorn, please.
“…handing over the reigns of government to a man…”
Jane, you should use “reins” here, as in holding on to the reins of a horse to slow him down, let him run, turn in a given direction. “Reigns” refers to what kings and queens do in their kingdoms. And while I’m sure Huck wants this country to be his personal kingdom, reigns doesn’t apply here.
WHA-AA-A? You wanna sound like Little Boots?
Someone I work with’s son is a young
fascistrepublican and very active. Him and his crew are all about the Huckster. Now keep in mind this kid is going to law school and believes in creationism, (Noah didn’t let the dinosaurs onto arc, doncha know), and is about as red as they get.I know a woman who had lap band surgery performed in Mexico. The hospital facility she utilized in Mexico is state-of-the-art and super clean and well staffed. Mebbe Huckleberry went to the same one. Take a little Mexican vacation, return to the US and melt away pounds with no one the wiser.
And the Gray Lady was definitely on to something here:
When elected governor of Arkansas, Huckabee was significantly overweight. In 2003, physicians diagnosed the governor with adult-onset diabetes and informed him that he would not live more than ten years if he did not lose weight. Prompted by this diagnosis (as well as the subsequent death of former Governor White, whose obesity led to a fatal heart attack), Huckabee began dieting and exercising. He subsequently lost over 110 pounds,[74][75] according to a New York Times article at a pace so rapid that “it was as if he simply unzipped a fat suit and stepped out.”
My bold. Yep: surgery anyone?
(Same link as my 35.)
“In a major reversal, Mike Huckabee announced a new immigration plan that calls for the 11-12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States to leave the country in 120 days.”
WooHoo. Buy shares in Greyhound.
Who really gives a fuck about Huckerboo?
The Nation is on life support…
Aren’t there more important issues like the Constitution.
I’ve got candidate fatigue…
and I’m pissed off that I haven’t got tickets to the Sox yet
(Ive been in their virtual waiting room since 10AM)
My vew is that “talking in tongues” is one of the silliest things that the religio-nuts have ever come up with. ;0)
It’s even funnier if you’ve read the Book of Acts.
It was allegedly done locally.
HCR may want to start chipping away at Huckabee’s nonsense, and begin laying the ground work for his eventual defeat.
And finally, we might commend him for his adept metaphorizing:
(Same link as 35.)
Can we tie the speaking in tongues meme to Huckabee?
that would be a nice touch….
OT….The NYT has a picture of Hillary from the early 70’s. This is Hillary, the Wellesley DFH Hillary. This is the Hillary that caused the wingnuts heads to explode and launched the VRWC.
NYT
To be honest; I’ve never read the bible. ;0)
Did everybody but me know, that there would be no Congressional candidate at 11:00 server time today?
That talking in tongues business was my favorite part of
Borat! What a bunch of baffoons Americans looked like in that film. I lead a sheltered life.
Suffice to say that the incoherent gibbering the fundies describe as “speaking in tongues” is not what the book describes. (This is because few of them have ever actually read it, either.)
Its the interpretation of tongues that requires real skill. It takes takes a hell of a con man to pull it off with finesse. These things are spiritual gifts. Not everyone gets the same gift. Some interpret tongues, some heal, some phophesy.
They have people believing in magic. Its bullsh*t. Would you go out in a field and eat bullsh*t?
When in the course of current events, it becomes obvious that the institutions that bind us together as a community, have become mal-operative and harmful to the wellbeing of the citizens. Remake your governing covenants in such a manner that no one person can be head of state, head of executive, and head of military at any given time. Assure that each citizen has the unfettered right of access to and full protection of the law. That only those exercising the right to vote have a limited ability to contribute to political entity, otherwise, all political entities are funded entirely through public sources, and political campaigns last no longer than a quarter of a year prior to election.
Check out the video in that NYT link as well. It’s a Hillary ad but you can see more of her in the 1970s. (Disclaimer: BTW, I’m not a supporter. I’m in Edwards’s camp.)
Howie’s on a junket to India and Myanmar–if he got his visa for the latter.
The pix at the top of heavy-metal Huck is absloutely ridiculous.
Have you guys seen “Jesus Camp”? There’s some real class incoherent babbling in that, plus you get to see Haggerd before he was outed. Smug git.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_camp
It’s depressing that Huckabee could even possibly be considered to be the actual nominee for President. How did our society get so far off the trail?
I got to sit in on Q&A session with the directors of Jesus Camp after a screening one night. It was interesting to hear their perspective on the whole situation, and the respect they had for that woman who was a big part of the film.
It started with St. Raygun of the Right in 1980.
What would a President Huckabee Cabinet look like. Who would this man appoint to the SCOUTS?
Too depressing to contemplate, OKK.
We need to trap Huck with a talking point that we assume that he is not a racist and that he will deport all the Irish, Poles etc too! I wonder what their numbers are estimated at currently? Lets weaken his support among white non citizens and their supporters.
‘Well-Informed’ Source Tells CBS That Tapes Were Destroyed To Prevent Prosecution
Last night on the CBS Evening News, national security correspondent David Martin reported that a “well-informed source” informed the network that the CIA destroyed the interrogation videos to “avoid criminal prosecution.”
Think Progress
Let’s not forget this Nutjob Mating Call from Huckabee in October:
“”Sometimes we talk about why we’re importing so many people in our workforce,” the former Arkansas governor said. “It might be for the last 35 years, we have aborted more than a million people who would have been in our workforce had we not had the holocaust of liberalized abortion under a flawed Supreme Court ruling in 1973.”
I’d like to hear him revisit and explain that one.
The whole thing was just bizarre. It’s incomprehensible to me that people actually buy into that garbage.
I wonder if I can apply to be a politically persecuted minority and apply for refuge status if he wins?
Waxman on Ring of Fire
Consider the Huckabee quote I posted @ 70 a gift you’re wishing for.
Yes. The GOP must be stopped.
Coincidentally, the republican chickenhawk YouTube I linked this morning has Tom Delay making much the same point, except he says it’s 40 million. How about that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFGit_tZDqs
Get ready.
It will be
Huckabee and McCain
against
Obama and Edwards
Potentially dangerous?
Rudy, hands down.
We set him up with my talking point then we have another MSM Talking head use your point to DEMOLISH that argument and prove that he is a racist.
Maybe the separation of church and state could take place at the voting booth; believers in church into one booth, the votes counted; all others into another, the votes tallied.
The GOP has been stopped, except for those who infiltrated the D Party.
How are these people educated? Home schooling no doubt.
Regent University, no doubt.
The crazier he acts out, and a prez campaign will deliver the pressure
for it, the more “excited” the base will get… Jonestown was the model.
I was thinking Huckabee/Romney (for the Morman cash)
and Clinton/Edwards (for the progressive cred)
So Huck thinks women should be forced to have kids they don’t want. I don’t see a majority of men or even a significant number of men say 20% saying please don’t get an abortion I will raise the child myself.
Sure there are some men who protest at abortion clinics who would say that, but how many of them are having premarital sex?
Also how many end up getting divorced? Just what is the divorce rate in Huck’s state and the Fundamentalist states in general?
Could it be that getting married just because you had a kid and were not using birth control until you and her were both SURE you could take care of the child leads to a higher divorce rate?
They are treacherous, and spiteful, and worse, they are insidious.
OT. Is anyone tracking coverage of Sen. Whitehouse’s speech yesterday? googling “”sheldon whitehouse” speech” produces lots of blog coverage and his website, but as for MSM, nada.
Nothing in NYT
Also, unless my search was faulty, media matters is not tracking the non-coverage.*
If this is indeed what’s happening, it’s we pups to the rescue time. A grass roots efforts to reach law professors and students might be the most fruitful way to get the news out to people who actually sit up and take notice when you say btw, forget Marbury. It’s been canceled.
Tried this experiment this morning. I described Whitehouse’s three points to three well educated and bluer than blue lawyers in private practice and a Harvard Law Student. Two of the lawyers said well this is what we expected. One promised to forward it to an association of lawyers. The law student practically grabbed the document from my hands.

I doubt McCain would be Huckabee’s running mate. Too old. Too much of a loose cannon for VP. Huckabee’s running mate would be some sort of establishment figure.
And I don’t think Edwards would be Obama’s choice. I think it would more likely be Obama-Richardson. But we’ll probably end up with Clinton-Clark.
Show them this post from looseheadprop from last night. It might help.
There are plenty of progressives who homeschool. It’s a myth that homeschool=Christian nut.
LHP’s post was excellent. I signed the petition and am prepared to march with other lawyers in NYC when the time comes.
Oh, for crying in a bucket. Now Bush says he will VETO the democrat’s capitulation.
anybody else wonder what Obama was going on about in Iowa?
seems to me that Oprah got a more enthusiastic welcome than Barack.
yay!
Yeah, funny thing. When you start offering concessions to someone whose entire negotiating style is “give me everything I want, and then we’ll talk,” you have to be nuts to expect him to reciprocate.
Well, the Huckster may be “religious” – but he ain’t ethical, especially with public money. Check this out:
http://www.realchange.org/huckabee.htm#publicmoney
Also note in the article the business about him trying to give money to the hospital where the doctor who ‘helped’ him lose weight worked – and notice what happened in that little endeavor!
I’m watching it now. The public is much more familiar with Oprah, so I think that is why…How it ends when he’s finished speaking will determine his impact. Also, part of it is the CSPAN audio and PA system, which has seemed wonky all week. You hear him, but you don’t really hear the roar of the crowd because of the way the mikes are set up.
Clinton-Clark, perhaps. Perhaps a no-name VP running mate would suit her best. Does she realize that she needs a Veep with name recognition?
He would veto it no matter what, but it sure looks bad to get another veto when you’ve capitulated….I’m tired of asking, but what the hell is their problem?!!!!!
According to Smintheos at Kos, it’s like:

Actually a very good public school district in NJ, and a catholic university for undergraduate studies. His mom is a very liberal intelligent woman.
Yep Bush is a gambler we just need a Dem with a Spine to call his bluff. We need new leadership in the House and Senate.
I couldn’t agree more Pete. I found it interesting though to hear the directors talk about this woman, her life and her commitment to her beliefs.
No scratch that Bush is a bad poker player. He’s a fat pigeon who is invited to poker games because he loses. Him Bill Bennet Dick (I have never been right about anything during Bush’s entire term) all think they are good players.
But they suck. I need to invite them to my house for a game I would so clean up, and I have forgotten how to play!
That is exactly what all of it feels like!! Perfect description. There is, however, that horrible reality that Pelosi and Reid are full of caca.
Federal prosecutors investigating the shooting deaths of 17 Iraqi civilians have narrowed their focus on as few as three Blackwater Worldwide bodyguards and have given others immunity for cooperating in the case, The Associated Press has learned.

Clinton-Clark. The D neocons. Brilliant. Take a listen to this if you want your pants scared off about Clark.

Hey folks, author and activist Norman Solomon is upstairs with a Book Salon for his Made Love, Got War. But if you don’t want to join us (and stay on topic) please feel free to stay down here and continue your discussions.
CSpan’s audio completely crashed during the Obama speech and the phone calls afterwards…that is really a drag.
Now the reporters are pissed at Romney!
‘freedom requires religion’?” asked a reporter.
An important point–but Romney deflected. “I’m paraphrasing something that’s been said both by John Adams and George Washington,” he said. “Which is that, in their view, for a nation like ours to be great and to thrive… that our Constitution was written for a people of faith and religion. It’s a very extraordinary element and foundation for our nation. I believe that’s the case.”
Unsatisfied, another reporter pounced. “Do you think an atheist or non-believer or non-spiritual person can’t therefore be a free person?” he asked.
“Of course not,” Romney responded. “That’s not what I said.”
Huckaboner? Bah hahahahahahahahaha! Oh my, how sad for our country….

Willard Romney, member of the Mormon cult, (or is it More Man) needs a history lesson. I am sure that politicians in the 18th century occasionally pandered to religion for votes. But both Adams and Washington considered the United States, a non-Christian, secular nation, founded by its people, without divine intervention. Romney is wrong, again.
George Washington was more progressive with respect to Islam than most politicians today.
Here is an example of John Adams flaming religion.
You go, Huck! I WANT the republican candidate to be someone that thinks a zillion years of fossil record is a communist plot. :o)
