Pretty much all I can think of to say is, "Heh."
Mitt Romney’s "Faith in America" speech was simply magnificent, and anyone who denies it is not to be trusted as an analyst.
Once the murmurs over the oratory subside, people are going to realize: that speech did not work.
PS. Despite the fact that we brought it to his attention, Mike Luo of the NY Times has now written not one, but two additional stories about Willard’s religious tolerance speech and neglected to mention the fact that Romney doesn’t want Muslims in his cabinet. Deadlines again, Mike? Or did you run out of words again?

Freedom REQUIRES Holy Underwear.
- Mork Romney
“Did Romney really have the balls to say to us, people should not jettison their believes for political purposes? Geez, he must think we have really short term memories!” Brian
BTW- from Glenn Greenwald:
LOL!
The Fighting 101st Keyboarders on the attack!
Freedom REQUIRES Holy Underwear.
Does hole-y underwear work?
oh man, I keep saying the more they are exposed the more brazen they become but that bit of irony is even more brazenosity then I imagined they might attempt
[brazenosity=penty of brazenous behavior]
Nahnoo nahnoo.
Republican candidates make me want to get blotto. I feel like I am living in a parallel universe whenever one opens its mouth.
Hey BobbyG – did you tell the folks downstairs we’re up here? (and ya might go down to Jane’s thread as well)
Uh, no, but I gotta split for now. See y’all later.
Since this cannot be serious, I am sure it contains hidden encoded messages. Possibly from outerspace.
OT – Cheney slams Pelosi, and Dem’s in general. In other news, Cheney is reported to be skipping the WH Christmas Party.
Goddamn NIE.
The highlights of his magnificent religious tolerance speech were his invocations of Islamofacists that want to kill us all. I also truly have a better awareness of his religious beliefs now….what religion was it again…Oh, yeah, and you have to be religious to be free…or somethin’. I guess I’ll vote for him now.
Awwww….his knickers be in a twist all of a sudden???
And Humvees full of Cheetos in every garage…..
Mitt Romney’s “Faith in America” speech was simply magnificent, and anyone who denies it is not to be trusted as an analyst.

What Hewitt meant to say was: “…anyone who denies
itme is not to be trusted….”That really makes me want to upchuck. I wonder if there’s anyway of daring the whole crowd to hold their event at dancehall on the drag outside the main gate of one of the major military posts. Even rightwing actual soldiers couldn’t prevent themselves from smearing some pimply white asses around.
Sorry to be OT – but I was hoping someone could point me a direction to find info on what Congress is doing to the physician’s Medicare fees which are set to be cut over 10% on 1/1/08.
Do you know anyone at the post that could send a couple of recruiters to the event?
From the announcement itself:
Administered? Does that mean after someone answers a question, they finish by saying “Thank you, sir, may I have another?” (h/t Animal House)
If it came from outerspace; the origin would be Kolob.
WTF?
My bold
What could these a**hats know about any of the above? Consequences of war? What? It costs too much to fill up the Hummer?
Benefits? More dividends to the Trust Fund I assume
Sheesh.
“Join the UMass Republican Club for yet another lively and edifying political discussion on the costs, necessities, consequences, and benefits of OTHER PEOPLE FIGHTING YOUR war.
Fajitaed their teepee.
No, that is the question everyone’s allowed to ask! *g*
No, I’m don’t even know what post is near there, although I could find out. Still, recruiters would know that those sorry little weasils wouldn’t get near signing anything. Even if they were drunk enough, they’re parents would bail them out. Maybe we could find a way to distribut Texas Air National Guard Wants You. Party on, Dudes!
Mitt says, “Why are you Republicans hating on my religion, when we could all be hating on those nasty secularists?”
Just another pander from the guy who never met a principle he couldn’t finesse for votes.
Jonah Goldberg is so pathetic I don’t even waste a childish, potty-mouthed word on him. saw his column the other day about Romney’s then-upcoming speech on religion and when i was done I said “What was the point? What did he say?” Completely without any substance. Not that I disagreed with him. There was nothing to disagree with. What a Zero.
As for Romney’s speech, I was at a prior post and I’ll say it again. i read JFK’s speech before and from what I read of Romney’s it was pedestrian at best – and that’s if you’re a Republican.
It’s getting to be one, giant, clown act…only it’s black humor.
John Bolton; pissing and moaning about jiggered intel…and wanting to go on another spook-hunt, because the spooks won’t rubberstamp a NEW clusterfuck. http://thinkprogress.org/2007/…..-nie-iran/
Mitt Romney; insisting on no religous vetting for the presidency, but damn sure insisting on one for his cabinet.
Huckaboomer: In effect, claiming God’s endorsement, but refusing to talk about the particulars of himself and his relationship with his edorser.
And John Edwards, evidently “reaching out” to these assholes by saying he will appoint one or more republicans to HIS cabinet.
It’s about time that someone asked Hillary and Obama just how bi-partisan THEY are feeling these days.
Watch it there, BFL — some of my best friends are pedestrians!
From Salon:
Oh, yeah; you little gooper punks; let’s YOU give war a chance. :o) I know some NCO’s at Parris Island who will be only too glad to help you.
Oh man! And I was so proud of that word. Thought it made me sound smart and everything.
I think Mormanism is weird. But I’m a Catholic. You wanna know weird?
*g*
Biodun, am I the only one who finds Salon’s “poignant” assessment of Romney’s dewy-eyed moment to be total horseshit?
Because, I don’t recall Salon going after the fundies over the past years, as they, summoned from their baseboard and linoleum hideouts by Reagan, began influencing the ship of state like Ahab in search of the Great White Sky Pilot.
After months of leading in the Iowa polls, he now finds his lead evaporating, largely because of the rise of Mike Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor who can brag about being a “Christian leader.”
Jesus must hate him.
Isn’t Sam Adams a beer?
D’oh!
I practice no religion. I’m not sensing much tolerance from
the Republics, even though freedom of religion includes freedom
from religion.
Everything I heard today make me wanna vote for Dennis K.
here’s a video of the speechhere’s a video of the speech
Of course, they’re tolerant – as long as you believe exactly like they do, no problem. Otherwise, fuggedaboutit.
No.
there, will that help? just don’t go near antidisestablishmentarism – Please
I like Mittie for two reasons. Or perhaps seven reasons. This guy has faith and served his country, America, for almost three years as a missionary in France. And… he has five sons all serving their country. These sons are providing this nation with protection against my party. The Democratic Party.
I guess I can’t think of two concepts which make my head want to explode more that Jonah “Guts and Glory” Goldberg explaining the benefits of war to a bunch of college Republicans and a bunch of GOP hypocrites preaching on how their faith will guide, but not unduly influence, their rational and pragmatic leadership of the country. I’ll be back after I rake some more leaves.
OT. The Ministrette of Truth trying to explain Bush’s mobius-strip timeline on the NIE.
I’m afraid that Dana has reached a tipping point;
she’s beginning to acquire the facial mannerisms of a Linda Chavez or Katie O’Beirne.
All downhill from here.
INTERESTING way to parody, Kiddo. I think.
What I really like about the Mittster is the way his church keeps records on all of us. Whether we like it or not. Mittie might prove to be another valuable asset in the Republican war on privacy and personal liberty. He certainly appears to have very good creds along these lines.
OT..Digby hits the mark again:
Digby
That is unspeakable. Shameless!
Bobby, I read your LV letters to the editor collection. Your talent is amazing and you should be paid to write those. The new one is the best – betcha they love you at the paper.
It’s very simple. Lying about lying makes it not lying.
It’s in the Republic handbook.
I like Mitt b/c he is a genuine assh*le. He’s not faking it. With so many pretenders, its good to find something real.
I’m half way through the speech and I happen to think it was an excellant one
contrary to what I’ve read on some blogs, half way through the speech he does mention his mormon faith
this was a good moment for him and the republicans as far as I can tell
it’s bad news for rudy, they are dying to get away from him and this gives them a chance to do just that
It should be quite obvious to everyone. What this country and the world needs is another born rich, religious fanatic Republican for prez.
Romney’s speech boils down to -
1. There most certainly is a religious test for public office.
2. I pass that test. Other people don’t, but we won’t get into that now.
3. Don’t ask me any questions about my religious beliefs – trust me, I do pass the test.
I find evangelicals and Republicans off-putting. And the Mormon Church seems to be loaded with both.
I think he delivered the speech very well, and that it was a decent speech, however, the man has Cofer Black as a terrorism advisor. With that in mind, to me, it doesn’t matter what he says in my humble opinion, because it means more war.
Righto. Us vs. Them is the only way to fly. Worked so well already. Myopic ethnocentrism with a good dose of Go Cheney Yourself is the winning ticket.
The problem for you Mr. Romney, is that most Americans have no faith in the Republican Party.
How can any speech based on the premise that religion is prerequisite to freedom be a good speech?
Yeah. I thought his speech was well done.
When he was Governor of Massachusetts, at least he was not corrupt, nor
do I think he lies.
But, he is a venture capitalist at heart, with no foreign policy experience.
I would never vote for him, but compared to Bushie, he is a fucking saint.
He is harmless…
I hate fucking lies, corruption and secret governments.
Impeach Bush!
I think I’ll vote for Dennis K…
He is harmless…
Poppy Bush must think so too.
I think that the speech was well-delivered, and I think the speech (regardless of content) was a well-written speech. The content of his speech had some good areas and some really bad areas (such as launching off on Islamofacists, etc., as well as Freedom needing religion).
I live in Texas and, as late as 2000, I thought Bush was too dumb and too weak to do any real harm.
I have no reason to believe that Mitt would not be as secretive as Bush. He has lived in a very secretive religion his entire life.To spend some time in Salt Lake City is to get just a glimpse of it all, but it is rather creepy – at least I thought so.
He’ll be Jeb’s running mate.
He’s dangerous.
He is both of those. What no one considered was that Cheney is completely evil.
He’ll be Jeb’s running mate.
*shudder*
Providing protection was a post this morning. It’s bad. Abstinence is the ticket.
I’m afraid you’re right…but in that case, all of Jeb’s corruption will come out into the sunlight…bigtime.
What’s the matter with Mittie? He’s worked very hard to be where he is. Just like our prez. Plus, he has the money (approx. a $20,000,000 loan to his campaign) and connections (his daddy) to be the world’s most powerful leader. Pretty strong resume I’d say. And like GWB, Mitt too was a Republican guv. And Mr. Romney is also very religious I am told. Just like Georgie. And look where the Republican brand of Christianity has gotten us.
do you think jeb REALLY hates his brother for fuhriggin up ANY chance he might have entertained of becoming president?
then again there is that coup thing I keep worrying about, he does have that chance at it if his brother annoints him when he declares that national emergency and suspends the constitution
And Jebbie ain’t all that popular down Florida way these days. Seems they’ve received the “benefits” of his rule and found it lacking in many ways.
That part is true. As little as I liked him, at the time I thought Cheney would at least provide adult supervision. Still, even Brent Skowcroft, said he was fooled by his former friend, Cheney.
Check out inimitable (heh) Mitt/Poppy/Babs snark from Watertiger.
What’s the problem? I understand he did a bang-up job with the local government investment pool.
Religion is divisive. Any pretense of inclusion is false. All Major religions are divided against the others and the divisions within the sub-groups are divided further against each other. I don’t know if there is a God, but I know there is a United States. Can we lose it b/c of Republican religious insanity, greed and bad government?
cheney has proven himself to be nothing but a moron, wrong about everything and then blaming other people for his failure
but he acts like he has some kind of superior knowledge and it seems to fool people
he could not have possibly helped this president, they are both nothing but town idiots
I kinda like the posibilities of a Huckabee/Romney ticket in ‘08. Or the other way round. I’m ready for the rapture. Or is that rupture.
hackworth asks:
Yes.
This is another case of simple answers to…
Cheney has been Haliburton’s dream come true.
Or is that rupture.
Crapture.
How can Mike Luo aspire to the apotheosis of the cocktail wienie and koolaid circuit if he starts doing his job?
I agree *gasp* with David Frum. For the religious right a Mormon is a Mormon, period. It is also comical of Romney to make a plea for tolerance when he has been systemically dumping it in every position he used to have. The Moslem gaff was just one of many of these.
True, but Mitt is not arrogant, like Bush’s dealings with the press.
Bush is a fucking wise guy and I’d like to cram his microphone up his arse. He tries to crack jokes and they make him look like a fucking bully.
Did you see his fucking flag on his winter coat today. He uses people.
I don’t get the same vibes with Mitt (pyschology 101)
The best person that I’ve seen in press conferences is Joe Torre, but
he’s not running for Prez
Heh, even he crossed over from the Dark Side… 8-)
I got it right too.
kiddo @ 81:
If they’re right, I’m ready for them to leave the rest of us alone to live in peace and sanity. I could never understand how any of them thought eternity surrounded by Jerry Falwells would be heaven.
flyin’ by heads-up in case someone can tune in and report:
Edwards coming up on Situation Room
If they’re right, I’m ready for them to leave the rest of us alone to live in peace and sanity. I could never understand how any of them thought eternity surrounded by Jerry Falwells would be heaven.
Good Point. That would definitely suck!
New threat upstairs, folks.
Thread/threat. It’s about Mitt so it could be either.
Scarecrow’s cawing upstairs about this Mitt guy.
