Richard Bruce Cheney, the only man memorialized with an "inaction" figure is back to make the latest in a long-string of deadly predictions.
Cheney said that by the middle of January 2009, it will be clear that “we have in fact achieved our objective in terms of having a self-governing Iraq that’s capable for the most part of defending themselves, a democracy in the heart of the Middle East, a nation that will be a positive force in influencing the world around it in the future.”
All of that by 2009? “Yes, sir,” he replied.
Add this to "welcomed as liberators"; Saddam building a bomb; "last throes"; and all the other past failed predictions Cheney later denied he ever said — ignoring the power of "videotape".
In Cheney’s defense, years ago he did accurately predict the JFK assassination.
Of course, as his recent biography (written with the ever reliable Stephen Hayes and summarized by some other hack*) revealed he had some inside information:
Chapter 5: The College Years
1960: Dick attends Yale, having won a scholarship for his High School Senior thesis in late 1958 "Castro’s 26th of July Movement, an insurgency in its Last Throes". However, Dick has to leave school early after participating in the ‘Kill a Commie for Nixon’ program. Neverthless, it is determined by a council of Skull & Bones that Cheney will not be prosecuted because, after all, his victim was a liberal and from a mere middle class family. Dick drinks from Geronimo’s skull and departs for Wyoming in 1962.
Dick takes time off from school, working for an electrical company as a lineman. However, in reality, Dick is listening in on phone conversations involving the Kennedy Administration. Later that Year, Dick visits Hollywood and gets a job as Marilyn Monroe’s housekeeper going by the name "Eunice".
Dick and his High School Sweetheart Lynne begin sending each other letters and gifts. Lynne sends Dick the heart of a local farmhand, Dick sends Lynne the pelvic bone of a vagrant whose flesh he had boiled away. Their co-dependency grows stronger. On Valentine’s Day 1963 Dick sends Lynne a letter that reveals the poet in Dick Cheney’s soul:
Miss Vincent,
My regards to you on this February 14, 1963. Without you, my will to power would have stopped when I assumed hall monitor duties in junior high after Tim Wilson’s ‘little accident’. You have given me the drive to attain the highest levels of executive authority as well as introduced me to the consumption of human flesh. I look forward to maintaining a respectful distance from you for years to come.
Sincerely,
Richard B. Cheney
Dick returns to college this time at the University of Wyoming, to be closer to Lynne and available for late night sessions of passionless dry humping and random euthanizing of the pets of Wyoming Democrats. In the Fall of 1963, Dick who is double majoring in Unethical Behavior and Embezzlement, proposes to Lynne, saying the only thing he wants to do more than get in her pants is get the United States into a War it cannot win. Lynne chuckles, accepts and tells Dick he’ll have at least two opportunities to do each. But first, she asks for a blood sacrifice to prove his devotion. Dick is puzzled as to what to do, but then just before Thanksgiving, he hops a train to Dallas.

Attaturk!
Never too early for a huge grin. G’Morning.
*May be a slight alteration of actual WaPo Op-Ed Pages, yet more credible than real thing.
Fristed Your Tidbits.
I almost spilled coffee on my keyboard! This would make a great Halloween story, LOL!
Good morning, Attaturk. Wonderful! 707.
You might want to fix this:
Good morning, pups. It’s TOMC and Roger Cohen in the NYT today. TOMC has a piece called “Born-Yesterday Candidates” and says that personally she would love to be able to vote for a presidential candidate who’s spent his/her life preparing to serve the country as competently as possible. Mr. Cohen looks at the results of the election in Venezuela and says that in rejecting Hugo Chávez’s referendum, Venezuelans gave a civic example from which George W. Bush’s battered and blathering democracy can learn.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and there’s a selection of bagels with LOTS of cream cheese. Caraleeacs is not alone — it was tea in my case. There should be a prominent spew alert on this post! Have a good day.
D’oh, thanks.
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s cold here in central Jersey with a nice dusting of snow on everything.Wish we could send the precipitation south, to where it’s needed.
Thanks for picking up the bagels, Marion. I’d like a poppy seed bagel. Do you have low fat cream cheese, too? Got to run–finishing two proposal today, and I still need to get letters of support for one of them, and fix the budget on the other!
Work for peace, every day!
Wow, we wound up with at least three inches of white down here in the DC suburbs, njp. Too early in the year for this much snow. WxUnderground tells me it’s currently 18 degrees around here and that the high today will be 34. Brrrr. Fortunately, a kindly neighbor ran his snow blower over our sidewalk last night so I didn’t have to wade through the drifts to retrieve Mrs Bilbo’s newspaper.
Good morning pups!
Does anyone know if there was a report on the NYC meetup last night?
Good morning, egregious.
This is a pisser, Attaturk. Definitely spew-worthy stuff.
I moved from Central Jersey to cenreal Flori-duh two years ago and haven’t had a good bagel since. I know you didn’t mean to, Marion, but you’re breaking my heart. Snow, eh? I’ve been checking the temps up there and it’s close to boarder-line freezing. That’s when we used to get those ice storms. They were brutal. Hope that doesn’t happen. Good luck w/ the proposals. I’ll give you a letter of support if you need one. What am I supporting?
But seriously, speaking of NJ, a couple of GOP congress people are retiring. How are our chances? Is Saxton retiring? He’s a scumbag, in my view. Talk about spewing. He was spewing the same bullshit against SCHIP that flies down here. I expect it down here, but totally un-Jersey.
Mornin’ egregious.
Yeah. I’d like to hear about the NYC thing. I’d probably have hopped a NJT train and gone if I was still up in Jersey. I miss my blue state.
Hey Bilbo, Beerfart. How is everybody doing this morning? We finally got some snow, covered up the Christmas lights on the bushes for a very soft and fuzzy effect.
For you early birds like me who weren’t around last night, Phoenix Woman did a very thorough and interest post on Chávez: The “Power Grab” That Wasn’t. Well worth a read.
Yeah. That was good.
Agh. I suppose I’d find this piece more humorous if there wasn’t just enough truth in it to make me wretch. Lynnie actually was a big reason why DeadEye got ahead in life, blood sacrifice or no.
Oh yeah…’Morning, ‘Pups.
Hear, hear! Absolutely.
hey njp, who’s your congressman? mine used to be frank pallone.
Great job…
Theater of the Absurd.
Why doesn’t Biden call hearings on Bush’s foreign policy blunders
and impeach for lying…
Is this Waxman/Fitz/WH refuses to let Fitz turn over more docs story gonna go anywhere? Just go away? My feeling is that there’s a there there. But I’m not seeing anything about it. I’ll check emptywheel. If there’s gonna be anything, it’ll probably be there first. This might be another instance – like coverage of the Libby trial – where the bloggers beat the MSM’s ass.
Good morning everyone…
…waking up to a picture of Dick Cheney is bad for the digestive system. Thanks a lot!
I don’t see the part where he failed out of yale…I know this is a piece of fiction but you must pepper fiction with fact at times
Mornin’, gang -
Attaturk, please allow me to add a vote of thanks for your fine posts in the early east coast hours.
Looks like scar is gonna be all faith, all morning…live coverage of the speech. OTOH, joe’s still p*ssed that shrub “lied” about the NIE and Shuster’s on vs. the little twerp.
Ya know, this has been a half-way decent week in many respects, all things considered. :-)
off topic;
I heard hillary was asked if she was going to raise taxes on the rich to which she laughed out load and said taxes on the rich aren’t going to be felt
this was the wrong answer
from now on I want democrats to make the case as clear as possible;
“middle class assets were given to the wealthy in the cover of night by this corrupt adminsitration and their minions, we intend on reclaiming those assets, that is not raising taxes…I don’t know too many wealthy people that think they are entitled to the middle class assets they were awarded simply because they were wealthy”
that’s how democrats need to start addressing the issue of “raising taxes” because we are not, we are “reclaiming assets”
It has’t been a bad week, as week’s go. QAnd I’m still waitin’ for that Waxman/Fitz story to explode. Not holdin’ my breath, mind you. But waitin’.
not a bad week… and it looks like the senate fisa vote has been delayed until next week. which gives us more time to keep calling our senators.
Jacob Plotkin was Cheney’s Yale roommate.
“It’s hard to flunk out of Yale. It’s something that one really has to put effort into. Yale at that time tried to make sure everybody who entered graduated.
I can personally verify Plotkin’s statement. I did my best, but they gradumacated me anyways.
Was lurking over at TBogg’s place last nite just to get a feel for the way the wind’s blowing…as a general observation, that is *not* a happy bunch of campers. Can certainly understand where his “regulars” are comin’ from; jeez, trying to adapt to the new FDL format hasn’t been enjoyable… imagine the additional factor of feeling like you’ve been “absorbed”.
OTOH, quite a few complaints that we’re just too *nice* at the Lake. Well, hell’s bells and codfish! If I wanted “nasty” there’s plenty of other places to hang my hat. And they seem to think trolls are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Blerrrrrrgh! Quite a few pups visitin’ and trying to smooth the waters (we was raised to mind our manners, don’ya know?) Was tempted to say, “If you don’t like zeds and kindness and long threads and, and, and……that’s why the owners went to the time and expense to dig some new coves. Nobody’s forcin’ ya to come in this one.” Decided putting that oar in the water was not gonna contribute to improving community spirit.
Dog, hope all these Lake-side changes work out for the best!
BL @ 26 -
Agreed on W/F but ya gotta admit there’s been an awful lot on the news plate since that first started percolating.
Good Morning!

GAK! klein’s on scar…pass the bleach.
But, that’s why I’m here! *g*
burp!
well them fuckem
I guess I’m as bad at predicting as Cheney. I was sure that the Administration was in its last throes back in 2004. Bogged down in Iraq, gas prices soaring (and that was then!), all the other stuff. If you have any doubt on how strong they still are, you haven’t been listening to the press surrounding the Supreme Court hearings yesterday.
Exactly! *gagging myself to make my stomach feel better*
Good Morning everyone. Anyone listening to Joe Klein telling lies?
Sure. I agree. What’s getting me about Waxman/Fitz is tne feeling that other thah emptywheel and some bloggers, it’s getting ZERO atention. But who knows? Maybe Waxman is trying to work something out w/ Mukasey and being discrete. Doubtful, but I’m just sayin’. I remain hopeful that this story didn’t go anywhere for reasons other than the MSM being lazy asses. But even though it hasn’t gone anywhere, the W/F story (potential story?) was just one more thing that made this a pretty good week. Dana Perini was priceless. And a Fucktard press conference is good for some comic relief.
Joe Klein has that typical reich wing blank stare when he speaks. I wonder how early they have to wind him up to spew the reich wing lies every day? I bet it’s close to 3am EST. If I’m not mistaken, he dies down @ 5pm but is hit on the back and is good till his next winding!
:)
Really. Call me “nice” but that’s the kind of internal pissing contest we don’t need, so I’m just gonna avoid it. I’ve always felt free to post potty-mouthed, childish stuff here as long as I try to balance it out with stuff that at least arguably might pass for thoughtful, adult type crap. Well, no, I’ve failed in that regard. But “nice” stuff, anyway. If I’m in a really potty-moputhed, childish mood, though, it’s nice to know I can go someplace else. Like the nuns used to say – time an’ place for everything.
Mike HuckaBeeStupid believes the Earth is 6,000 years old and is flat. According to his little theory, the Chinese were around to witness our creation and they lived amongst the dinosaurs. Wow! What I’d like to know is why the Ancient Chinese haven’t told the world how it was EXACTLY done? I bet HuckaBeeStupid knows!
(trying to be mean this morning so FDL doesn’t get the reputation of being too nice)
I don’t think I’ll bother turning the TV on.
As far as I’m concerned, Joke Line has burned his credibility beyond repair (and Time’s, as well).
Glenn G. turned them both into >a smoking pile of rubble.
Anyone else listening to Imus this a.m.? He’s got Ghouliani on right now. Asked him about Roe v Wade and Ghouliani said something about appointing judges–didn’t catch the exact adj [originating?]–and said thereby the judges would rule on a whole range of criminal law issues. Miranda, anyone?
Interesting and good to see Imus back in action. Ghouliani is blathering on and on, about Kerik now…give a man enough rope….
I stuck my nose in at tBogg yesterday, and got hit with flying crap. It’s understandable, but it is a little ironic to hear avowed progressives pissing and moaning about change. What must a reaoranization of conservatives be like?
How can you have any discussion of The Life and Times of Dick Cheney without a thorough discussion of Teabagging. Somewhere Neal Pollack is crying and Mandrew Sullivan is doing what he always does, jacking off to a picture of George and Dick, while writing how he hates them so.
They were whining. Pure and simple. They didn’t want to open their clubhouse to dirty effing fem-bot hippies that they didn’t know.
They whined about the font, they whined about the preview feature, they whined about departure from the other site, they whined about the lack of clarity in the departing message as they exited the other site.
And they whined that FDL is “too wholesome”.
Jeebus, what a lot of whining. Life is too fucking good if that’s the best you have to whine about.
Huckabee:’Asking about the NIE was a gotcha question.’
(((TBogg’s WATBs)))
Elliott — you’re too nice. Around there, that kind of whining needs the time-out chair.
Jeebus, they were implying we don’t swear enough around here.
And earlier Huckabee: ‘HuffPo is the most left-wing blog that there is and the story about him and the rapist parole is innacurate. And since it’s on HuffPo should be completely ignored’.
Stopped by TBogg to leave a welcome, didn’t get back. Just as glad.
Speaking of getting back, Imus riffing about Jim Cramer wanting to be on his show and then recanting, saying “management” didn’t want him to…apparently NBC wants a “cooling off” period til after the first of the year…as if, notes McCord, eight months wasn’t enough.
What network are you on, solai?
I do miss TRex, though. Gave this site even more of an ‘edge’. Snarky, extremely well-written and a nice way to end the day.
Mornin Attaturk and pups,
Six NYC area pups met in a pub.
Stay tuned. This is hard work this morning.
*asp*rin* bluejeansntshirt
I haven’t been there. What were they wining about? This site? The linkage up top? Too many firepups going there. I spit in their general direction. Having accomplished that, I turn the other cheek and welcome them to our big tent.
MSNBC. Morning Joe (gag)
I called Jim Saxton a scumbag just this morning. I’m doing my part.
i think this one is justified. i haven’t been able to read a whole comment thread since the move without a wicked headache… so i just don’t. my loss… but i do really really miss reading the comment threads.
thought it was just me, so wasn’t making a big deal out of it. but if there are more people than me who find it difficult, i’m guessing that someone will want to know that.
…. and i really, really miss the “quote this comment” function… but i’m just hoping that it is on the list of things being worked on.
I’d love to watch Imus, but he’s not available on my cable. And radio is out of the question for me (a little hearing damage).
Good morning.
NYC area meetup, as bjnts sez, attracted 6 pups, including one who came all the way from Florida. She claimed she was in NYC for other reasons, but we all knew she came just for us.
Lots of loud discussion, but they didn’t kick us out.
fixed!
Thanks (((eCAHN)))
Why is my keyboard so furry?
I think we’ve been seeing it this week……and it ain’t purty!

Now about that preview feature…….. *g*

Isn’t Cramer the crazy one who talks about money? If so, caught a clip of a melt-down he had about something and wondered who . in . the . world? would go to this guy for advice on *anything*.
bjs -
And a good time was had by all?
excellent! thanks for the news of the meet up.
Haven’t been at Morning Slop since Imus came back. I know I’m a minority voice on that…but he so outdoes any of the others I’m sticking. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the better-than-the-rest-of-’em…..
[a philosophy some among us may have to remember in the general election)
Selise. If you are on a Mac and you have Safari (don’t know about the other op system) you can go to preferences and change the font and size that displays on the browser. I have know idea if you can do this in other browsers.
I have my browser on Arial 14pt as my eyes prefer it that way.
As for cussing and swearing… any time at Tbog (not particularly funny or interesting IMHO) would drive one to declare fuckit
contact your cable company and ask for the programming. Citizen activism has many guises *g*
1,687 DAYZ AND THE KILLNI’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Attaturk and the Early Mornin’Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Hey kids…now we know why the corporate oily fascists exposed Valery Plame and busted Brewster-Jennings – they needed to blind the professional intelligence watchers so that their lies about nuclear armament in Iran who go unhchallenged. Forget all about teachin’ Joe Wilson and other CIA objectors a lesson and they certainly DID wanna intimidate other whistle-blowers but it was first and formost an effort to weaken this country’s WMD intelligence so they could open up a new world-wide nuke arms race.
These folks are traitors and should spend time in Leavenworth!
KEEP THE FAITH AND DON’T BELIEVE A THINGS THE BASTARDS SAY!!!
solai (53) — yeah, I hear you. But every time a door closes, a window opens — and perhaps TRex has a chance to develop a much larger audience now on his own. He was toying with the idea of working in broad daylight instead Late Night; could be a good thing.
Beerfart Lib — thanks for holding up our end with that Saxton slam, takes the edge off that annoying “wholesomeness” with which we are imbued.
selise (58) — there’s constructive feedback, keeping in mind that there is a LOT going on here behind the scenes…and then there’s whining. They were whining. I think there have been enough comments about the font that eventually you’ll see a change, just my personal bet here, but the technical stuff going on to get this site launched, stable, and additional components added in phases, is really a big task. Smaller tweaks like font will surely come after the big stuff.
Oh, yeah. Everything’s happening at once, and it’s been a testy last few weeks in general.
Really? Not when I was there yesterday afternoon. One of the newbies called us “clannish”, then another newbie said something “clannish” himself, which I then gently tweaked. Newbie Three said something along the lines of “why are you hatin’ on clannishness?” which then gave me the opening to say (truthfully!) that I didn’t, but that Newbie #1 does — and then quote what Newbie #1 said in full.
I’m probably not their favorite human being right now. :-) But really, if you’re looking for a reason to hate something — and when people find themselves confronted by unexpected and unwanted change, that’s the default reaction — you’ll generally find it, even if it doesn’t necessarily make any sense.
Wonderful Stuff, Attaturk.
That’s been my hypothesis all along, after I found out that she was working on Iran WMDs.
I would ask that we all give the tbogg commenters some slack. Remember how nervous we were the day before the site change, when Jane wrote a cryptic post titled “Goodbye”? Tbogg put up a video of the Doors singing The End and they were about to cry thinking he was quitting.
Then they wake up and find themselves in a strange environment, with no guidance as to whether they are part of us, or still themselves. It’s an identity crisis, and I think we would feel the same way if we were suddenly being hosted by them.
They are wondering if our comment rules, and more important, our comment culture now determine what they can say. I would be fuming a little at that. In fact they can comment however they like, but not sure they know that yet.
We are the ones who invited them to come and live next door to us, and it is our responsibility to be taking over those homemade pies and cookies to welcome them. They’ve moved a long way and are kind of grumpy. I hope we can show them some fdl love.
That’s the Cramer. He’s a bazillionaire from a hedge fund I think it was. Interesting that “management” squelched his appearance. I would think Imus’ magnanimity and forgiveness [which he has attributed previously to his AA/rehab experiences) will only extend so far.
NBC might do well to remember the old saw: better to have the camel inside the tent pissin’ out than outside the tent pissin’ in, methinks.
Imus did offer Cramer one of his three testicles, saying Cramer obviously didn’t have any.
Those neoconmen still want to bomb Iran, in spite of the facts.
That was rather humorous, PW. They had NO clue who they were dealing with, didn’t even give the posts-too-rarely-now Pach his cred. ;-)
Actually, I’d say SuperMax with the blind sheik and a few murderin’ pedophiles and 23-hour lockdown.

eCAHN, Petula Clark was right.
Don’t sleep in the subway.
I take it your hangover isn’t virtual! :)
What??? Did you get home OK? I hope nothing bad happened.
Re: The Tboggers — I HATED the changes at first but I think this is a better place now. If they keep comin’ here they’ll get used to it. And us. It’s a good product they give us at the top of the page. It’s sorta like that goofy movie Field of Dreams – just post it and they will come. With Jane, Christy, LHP, PW, Attaturk – I hate to mentionn names because I know I’m leaving great people out, my apologies in advance – and all the other people, the book salons and the rest, they’ll come back. And the ones who are ignorant fucks who just need a place to bitch and moan won’t come and it’ll all settle out sooner or later.
I only know of one type.
democracynow doing in-depth on D candidates, starting with John Edwards, on now.

“Testy” is a good description. “Nice” is my word and it was just a general impression of their reaction to us.
eg -
Agree with everything you say! It’s easy to have a lot of empathy for them b/c, as you say, they’re having to deal with many more changes than we… with apparently even fewer explanations. Flyin’ blind ain’t fun!
Sunshine @ 74 -
Have no knowledge (as you can tell *g*) of the background stuff you’re describing but it sounds like a good story. Any linkys to bring me up to speed?
BL @ 85 -
Most excellent analysis!
they’re complaining about the same things we’re complaining about
thing is it was our change that our hostess decided, it looks to them like it wasn’t tboggs idea and that’s gonna get everyone really feeling the things they miss
when we first left halo scan I remember missing that, then when we first switched to this format I didn’t like it at first but now I like it better
we need the features back that we cound on and then all will be good
we need quote with comment, we need preview and we need edit
get those back and everyone over at tbogs starts to enjoy their new digs
That’s a nice area. Did she tell you the one about the “Celestial Drops”? The magic water that Harris said would cure citrus canker? I miss having Katherine Harris to kick around. Doin’ it to Mel Martinez isn’t nearly as much fun. And he doesn’t wear more make-up than a rodeo clown, like Harris, so he doesn’t look prteposterous either. No fun.
Jim Ridgeway, formerly of Mother Jones, talks about the two John Edwards.
ecah, I would have made an appearance in manhatten if I had more time to plan
any chance of getting some east coast firedogs to meet in lawn guy land ?
Got home ok. Just the wrong train and missed my stop.
No, can’t say as she mentioned Celestial Drops. What a nut.
’scuse my ignorance, but where would that be?
Well, you made it, finally. Good.
Oh, exactly. And they didn’t have any advance warning. I’d probably be testy, too. :-)
Shrubco are they lying?
Are their lips moving? How many times will Shrubco lie and the press just rolls over. I heard David Gregory explain that in fact Shrub was right to continue to be concerned about Eyeran because they are scary especially Imadinnerjacket.
about twenty minutes east of man hat tan
lawn guy land rail road gets you there and I will pay the cab fair of everyone fromn the train station to whereever we meet
might even pay the train fair too
Ridgeway’s problem with Edwards is that he is indistinuishable from DLC. Talks a good game, but his voting record does not support what he is now saying.
John Kerry on Imus now about his challenge to T Boone Pickens, who bankrolled the swiftboating and then shot off his mouth with a million dollar challenge while at some RW dinner. Don’t have the full backstory on this close at hand…and gotta fly….
But why didn’t Kerry defend his honor immediately and forcefully in the campaign????????
off to work, see everyone later
Thanks for the offer, but if you want my guess, it won’t happen. Someone suggested last night that having to go all the way over to the East Side, several blocks away from the nearest subway, was not convenient enough. (Since I set it up, I made sure it was convenient to me, and Parnell’s is comfy, reasonable, and not so jammed you can’t hear yourself.)
best thing to do with an out and out lie is to ignore it
problem this time is the wurlitzer made it go viral and by the time kerry decided ignoring it wouldn’t work it was too late
in that case let me know next time with a day or two and I’ll make it a point to stop by
I didn’t read about it till around 3 oclock and by then I already had plans
next time
L8tr dogs
It’s hard to believe that they won’t just flat out call him a liar…tho’ I think scar did actually use that word this morning. Be still my heart! Would probably get slapped down by the mods if I verbalized my opinion of gregory.
Love that imadinnerjacket, btw, but now there’s absolutely no hope of my ever learning to spell it correctly. *g*
OMG. Matt Lauer just introduced Michael Smerconish as a “conservative” media host. Jeepers, I’m surprised he didn’t just call him a media host without the label.
I put notices in comments several times in the days before. Guess you didn’t see them. If you want, you can email me & I’ll add you to the email list.
Oh, I take any implied cred for Lauer/Today Show back…they only have representatives for one side of the Mumia story on now, and Lauer’s doing an ineffective job of playing devil’s advocate.

It is a myth that Kerry did not fight back the main stream media chose to ignore the facts. At the beginning Boston area media all pooh poohed the story because they knew it was old ground and factless drivel but so what
the cable ghouls hoped on it and the rest is history,
One of the biggest whores in this story is Kathleen Hall Jamieson of Anneberg who claimed the media had no responsibility and it was a sign of weakness for Kerry. She is a total flat out gooper whore.

nd it ain’t just Mortgages that are turned into gooey hooey:
from Atriois:
“Many auto loans undergo the same Wall Street financial engineering as the mortgage loans that stand at the center of the credit crisis, making this a potential issue for investors. Auto loans often are bundled together into securities, sliced and diced into pieces with varying levels of risk and return, and sold to investors around the world.
In 2006, $89 billion of auto loans were packaged into asset-backed securities and sold to investors, according to Standard & Poor’s, making it the biggest asset class for such securities next to mortgages and credit cards. That tally doesn’t include certain other types of securities backed by car loans. The market is now slowing. Deutsche Bank estimates such bundling was down to $69 billion during the first 11 months of this year, a 19% drop from the same period last year.”
thanks for the suggestion. tried adjusting the font type and size in the safari preferences, but it doesn’t override the 12pt arial in the comments here. :(
i use the increase font size, which helps a bit. maybe it’s just my small screen and old eyes. but i loved the font and color scheme for the old fld comments. very easy on the eyes – probably why i spent so much time reading the comments… well that and that i enjoy “listening” and participating in the conversations here. you-all are the best :)
The frustrating thing was that the American public and news media knew so little about it as to believe that a Lieutenant J.G. could write his own decorations. It was totally ridiculous. On the other hand, a frat rat with a father who had a lot of pull could certainly get himself in the Texas ANG champaign unit, along with John Conally’s son.
agreed. i prefer to let the tech folks deal with real problems and functional issues – the last thing they need to hear is me bitching. i’m just grateful for all the work people are doing to keep the site running.
… just didn’t realize until today that there were more people than me having trouble with the font (type, size and color).
From Think Progress:Liar! Liar! Pants on Fire!
The techies need to receive “bug reports” from all the platforms as well as “interface complaints” or else how can they make it right? It’s not bitching to note that it’s not hitting your sweet spot. Squeak on wheels and with guilt.
I thought Dick and Lynn met when he was a life model in her soft core porn illustration class.
White House Reveals Bush Lied
What will we tell the children???
The WH has a strategy to deal with this. Bush will commence to lie about lying and then come out strongly against gay marriage.
And welcome you are!
[Just tryin’ to live up to our reputation.] *g*
Naw! He is just protecting us from the truth.
Think Progress has this in its latest:
Here’s Siun’s note again for reporting problems and suggestions
– and those ever lovin’ pats on the back, too!
So true. I had a problem registering and thought complaining was kind of petty but in the course of a comment said something and viola all problems fixed.
Very responsive hosts.
Y’all have definitely made me feel welcome. :)
for the backstage crew :)
Anytime now there’s going to be an angry horde of cretins looking for me. I just left a firebomb for the morons who were bitching about me over at Tbogg’s old place.
Jeebus. I cannot believe they are still WHINING en masse 18 hours later about comments I made in Tbogg’s new site. And they call Firepups “clannish”??
I might have to find some billable work to do before I get really nasty about this.
It’s somebody else’s website, for gawd’s sake. Not your personal choice of underwear or food.
I felt the same. It’s just a damn good place, it is.
Edited to express my opinion.
I have to admit, when i read your screen name I sing the clapper theme: war on… war off…. war on war off the warrer (clap clap)
:)
lmao
That’s exactly it! You got it, twolf! *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap*
Oh. Romney’s speech is at 10:00 *A.M.* I posted last night that I was looking forward to it as a possible insomnia cure for me. Oh well, it’s not like that was the first time I’ve posted something stupid. Still, if the s.o.b. had any class at all, he coulda waited until tonight…
Edited back at ya. ;-)
amen. other people working their asses off, and i get all the benefit.
color me grateful.
Interesting that MSNBC is gonna have tweety do the honors today on covering mitt’s religion speech…snort. Might actually be worth hanging around to see how that turns out.
How does one write an emoticon for that weird noise he makes?
Ugh. See? That’s EXACTLY why they call us “clannish”.
And “wholesome”.
Because we pat team members on the back, and we’re grateful, and stuff.
=Xp..
How’s that, for starters? I can’t think of any other way to “Tweety-fy” an emoticon…
Jane’s upstairs!
New thread above!
I tend to agree with Beerfart Liberal @ 41. This site is one which I would categorize as more on the ‘nice’ side. The mods tend to keep it that way, and that’s OK. I visit FDL every day, and it’s one of my favorites, because of the rational discussion (with humor), the great posts and many topics that I care about. The posters are all smart, intelligent people, that goes for the comments as well. However, being the ornery vet that I am, living in a red state with a super capital R, I need something more ‘militant’ (for lack of a better word)to balance out the ‘nice.’ And though I usually get here too late to join in the discussions on favorite topics, my comments here (mostly about Repugs) have been more on the not-so-nice side. For more edgy stuff, I go to The Rude One or Maru; that’s why I enjoyed TRex here, he offered some of that balance.
Just my two cents, for what it’s worth. Jane, Christy and all do a lot of good work here and out in that vast neocon wasteland. Cudos also to Old Coastie for helping to get some MSM publicity about the California initiative signature fraud thing.
Interesting that the Iranians apparently stopped their efforts to make nukes after that Can job set up by the CIA with the phony triggers. That was probably Plame’s last job running something in the counterproliferation unit (although it may have occurred before she took over the Iranian ops in 2001). But after that the Iranians either realized that the CIA was all over their efforts (note Joe Wilson also outed the Iranian efforts to try to obtain Nigerien yellowcake back in 1999). To me it sounds as if they realized that such efforts were likely to be detected. Pakistan and Libya had been caught. And their one major regional threat, the Iraqi’s were being invaded and it was increasingly unlikely that they had ever had WMD’s.
So Khatami decided to shut down whatever efforts they had. In 2003. That was just about when Plame was outed.
BTW Khatami sent personal back-channel messages to the WH in 2003 offering to negotiate away both their capacity to obtain nuclear weapons (likely for Cold-water nuclear reactors with uranium supplied from outside) as well as working for legitimising a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine. Such negotiations were turned down.
pastfedup — they will welcome your edgier, more militant feedback at Tbogg when you feel the need. Something for everybody here, only a click away.
Yes, you are validating my long-time theory that Plame was outed not just because of Wilson, but to put a stop to any work she and others in CPD were doing with regard to Iran.
I just hope it all comes out before November 2008.
Sure, but he wouldn’t be the first politician who matured and moved leftward.
It’s time you straightened right out…creating problems in town…ahhhhh, Rudy…
(Who knew Dandy Livington was so prescient?)
