ES!
will the real eureka springs please stand up
that is a kick ass tune, es. most excellent
***blush***
Hi, Eureka.
Take a bow, Eureka Springs!
Wow ES, what a great group!
Congrats on your first post, may there be many more.
Hi there ES.
Is that FDL’s own Eureka? I would have figured you for a classical debut… :-)
Nice work!
ES!!
I would like to thank 47 anonymous people and every single firedog!
Now, It’s official! You’re a head-liner now, Yesterday was a mere practice run, ES! :P
ES, that is a killer song
Eureka – How did you find them? This is cool!
Aren’t these guys fun? I stumbled across them and thoroughly enjoyed the music and video. Just kept going back to listen over and over.. Looked them up on teh google and found out they are Brazilian.
Arkansans no long need to say “thank god for Mississippi” Eureka has made the front page. I would post some Eureka Springs pictures but I shut down my F-book.
LL, copy the part of the comment you want, click the reply, then click the quotation mark, insert and paste between the blockquotes, hit enter and type in your witty reply… *g*
Good song.
What is missing from the Obama-vs-Clinton battle of the super lightweights article below is a mention of actual progressive Dennis Kucinich. Why?
The 2.4 trillion dollar question.
Disregard my last, CT, I need to do some practice — some other time! *g*
Yes’m, I think you’ve got it… 8-)
Well the meds are starting to kick in. All good wishes for sleep accepted!
ES, am I gonna have to send ya a ‘dibs’ email so you know what utubes i’m gonna use on my nights – and visa versa?
Melatonin dreams, Texb.
pain free sleep wishes tex
Have a sweet and restful sleep, Tex.
Smooth sailing on dreamwater.
Sounds like a good idea.
And certainly, extended to ya, Ma’am… *g*
Rest well Betsy.
but first, the news and blog posts are up at my place.
Eureka – Are we wrong, or is Huck pulling away from the pack? Has he got staying power?
i keep forgetting to tell ya, tex, but i like your new look too.
thanks y;all, see you tomorrow.
Pain free dreams Texb.
time for me to split also. Good night all!
Seems like the MSM decision on DK has been accepted by the liberal activists. Odd.
nite LL
Copy the comment, under Edit in FF, then, reply bubble, then Quotation mark, paste between the blockquote marks, hit return then type your response…
Nite now LL
woo hoo! wild clapping for ES!!!
from your fan,
selise
Congratulations, ES…and a good tune, too.
;>)
Nite, Ma’am…
nite tuttle
not a chance for the huckster. No brains, no money, no real agenda, not thick skinned enough to take the pressure. Imagine Dan Quayle as a southern preacher.
He has very sticky fingers and not enough of his own money to hide shuffling funds very well. I will bet you he is already in trouble with the way his campaign funds have been handled.
g’nite tuttle and any sleeping pup i may have missed
nite to all leaving pups
I feel so damned much better!
lol @ Dan Quayle as a southern preacher!
I think a less faith-based politics would be welcome change.
He’s pretty slick. If he can learn a thick skin, I think he can be a contender.
Am I being escorted to the door…? *sigh* The context is skewn within the new system… ;-)
i’m not sure, but i think i prefer huckabee to the other R candidates.
sorry, ct… (getting out of ct’s chair)
Oops… my bad…
i wonder why roberts didn’t endorse him tho.
Oh I think Huck would be an excellent alternative to the Dem nominee.
Front page congrats ES and Suzanne.
gonna beat it outta here too.
G’nite all
Wow, I think he’s the scariest of them, because he could pose the most problems…
Because he can’t control him and because Huckabee is not mean enough, would be my guess.
huckaborg
huckabee seems less immigrant bashing, less war mongering (except ron paul who has everyone except dk beat), better domestic economics than the other Rs.
but, i haven’t been paying enough attention to really tell.
i do think he could be a challenge for clinton (as he will appeal to the “outside dc” national feeling).
politics really just kinda escapes me generally. It has never really made sense to me.
It’s seems Hope can spring eternal, or at least produce two Prezs… ;-)
huckster – he reminds me of one of them slick tv preachermen
under the beltway *g
I agree with you.
Just what we don’t need: another person clothed in phony piety and the flag, with his hand on the bible and his eye on all the money he could make with the WH gig.
Bottom line for me is he would be in way over his head. Remember he actually thinks a flat tax is a good idea and he is basically poor himself! If he were ever scared like lil George was on a 9-11, there is just no telling what he would authorize Defense or DHS to do.
A few years ago when Huckabee halved himself, he travelled around the country with his family in a motorhome, IIRC, and did this occasional series about it on NPR. I had no idea who he was, thought he was a salesman, actually, from his peppy personality. He seemed pretty banal.
No biggie, I’m sure AEI would step in on the policy side.
don’t need anyone who’ll let the cheneyites tell him/her what to do.
It’s one of many reasons I like Kucinich. Dennis can and does say no to pressures from any direction, especially neo nuts.
hey selise – what are the hearings worth keeping an eye out for this week?
i trust huckster only slightly (ever so very slightly) more than i would trust rudy rudy rudy as prez
Heh, it’s a figurehead, PNAC, A*P*C, etal, want as CinC…
Same here, I get the feeling all the top tier candidates will follow right along with the AEI long view.
looks like a slow week for hearings this week – only about a third the typical number of 60-80. here are some that might be of interest:
tuesday, 10:30 am – Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
To hold hearings to examine developing a comprehensive response to food safety.
wednesday, 9:30 am – House Energy and Commerce
Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet Hearing
Oversight of the Federal Communications Commission: Media Ownership
wednesday, 2:30 pm Senate Judiciary
To hold hearings to examine the foreclosure crisis, focusing on helping families save their homes.
wednesday, 2:30 pm – House Foreign Affairs
After Annapolis: Next Steps in the Middle East Peace Process
thursday, 2:30 pm – Senate Foreign Relations
U.S. Foreign assistance to Pakistan
for the complete list, click on my name.
Jackie and Dunlap
oh margot, that is too funny… love the endorsement the guys got at the end… (snort snort)
i should have asked you, what kinds of things interest you the most? seems like everyone has there own favorite topics (which was why i went to trying to list everything – that way, i don’t function as a gatekeeper).
Absolutely Suz. The odd thing is, if the R base does not nominate Huck then the base will be as happy as most progressives will be with HC as the D nominee. Both parties base without a candidate they identify with makes for a lot of disgruntled citizens.
Telecommunications and the Internet looks good.
Huckabee may be the least dangerous of the pygmies…He is intelligent but fundie college ignorant..If elected, he would probably be more of a sock-puppet than Bush. He might also be the most difficult Thug to defeat in the general election.
Wednesday seems to be an interesting day! Did anyone ever mention that you’re ‘da bomb’?! *g*
selise, i’m particularly partial to all things relating to taking back our constitutional rights
Precisely! The cause of my consternation… *g*
Selise @ 84
selise’s our Hearing Herald Angel
Does everybody know about her vcards for contacting members of The House?
I just fed the news ticker with a couple new items.
Does everybody know about her vcards for contacting members of The House?
nope. what are they, video thingies?
then c-span2 may be the station for you to watch… if the senate decides to proceed on fisa this week.
(thanks ct)
Eureka.. tell us more about Igor Prado..
sweet, thanks selise (and thanks for all you do – you are where i turn when i wanna know whats coming up hearing wise)
also, if anyone finds a news clip that they think should go into the ticker, let me know in the comments with the link. if it goes on the ticker, you will get a h/t in the headline (like laura doty and alvord got earlier today)
nope. they are the contact info for every member of the house of representatives (i did the senate a week or two ago). vCards are a format that most email and address programs can read (on pcs, macs and some smart cellphones).
i got the idea when christy asked us to fax a bunch of senators. thought, wouldn’t it be easier if we all had the fax numbers in our address books?
here are the links:
senate
house
and with two weeks with no congressional hearing list to do… seemed like a good time to practice my cut-n-paste.
and ya’ll do know that you can comment on the news in the ticker, right?
Suz is Saint Joseph working for ya yet?
what news ticker?
i should give credit to scarecrow who asked me to start posting a list of interesting hearings in his first thread on monday mornings. the weekly list grew out of that.
and i also blame christy who got me hooked on watching the hearings more than a year and a half ago. *g*
elliott, not yet but then again, i’m off the market for the holidays – sign is still up but off the MLS.
selise, on the home page at firedoglake.com below the top post is a news ticker. or you can click on the link i gave to see the most recent items and not just the headlines on the ticker.
So … I fell asleep pretty fast and all was well until, for some reason, my body decided to turn over. Then I screamed and now I am here. Distract me! Or else sing lullabies.
Ack!!!!!!!
rock a bye baby
in the tree tops
thanks suzanne, but as a small child i remember worrying about falling out of my bed with that song.
(((TexBetsy)))
Elliott, Sorry I had some connectivity issues. Don’t know a lot about them but a little angel told me they have a myspace page.
Also another side of their sound here.
i did not want to be the baby falling down from the top of the tree. i was very literal.
oh, i love the news ticker.
i even have a thought… when there is an interesting hearing (or maybe other things that pups like to watch together and comments on…. like ko?) a link on the event (hearing or whatever) could be used as a gathering place for live blogging, comments, etc – so as not to distract from the front page post.
thanks selise.
Great idea.
listen to this
Hey all you late nighters… just dropping by to check out the new digs. Am really liking the new look… it does take longer to load (I’m on dialup in the mountains of northern New Mexico… only hi speed option is satellite, which I’m seriously contemplating).
Anywho, I’m wondering what happened to TRex… I read yesterday that he’s got a new blog… but am wondering why he didn’t get a FDL blog like Marcy. Anyone care to share the details pls?
TIA
Also… anyone have a link to T’s new blog?
Thx again.
satellite is no fun. slow and completely goes out in bad weather.
trex is doing his own thing over at his beautiful new blog, here.
Actually a friend near me has Hughes and has had really good luck with it… good enough for youtube and no weather problems… so I might give it a try. dialup is SUCH a bummer.
night all.
thanks for keeping me company while i couldn’t sleep. hope you feel better soon betsy.
I am out in the boonies. Fortunately a cel phone connection works for me at about twice the speed of satellite at less than half the price.
tex, ya ever pay attention the words to most childhood songs and lullabies?
ring around the rosie (all about the plague)
jack and jill
don’t even get me going with the brother’s grimm (aptly named)
nite selise. great, great effort on the v-cards!
thx a lot selise…. I really love his writing. will check it out.
thanks selise. greenwarrior, this is perfect. only a bit off from my grandma’s music.
i’ve been on huges b4 and imho they suck.
then again you might get better line of sight down there in AZ.
here’s something:
To bed, now. Goodnite, all.
Nite, Selise! I shall join ya! I bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Exactly how does a cell phone connection work? Does it connect to your computer somehow or do you watch the internet on the cell?
booyah, he put up a post over at his new place in addition to his last post here. he decided it was time for him to spread his wings and fly solo instead of a group blog.
ah yeah! good idea :D
sleep well teddy and CT
oh, okay… I guess that makes sense. He is such a talented writer… some of the best snark around. Thanks very much.
*waving to all the leaving sleepy pups – tuck tuck*
All wireless for me. I have a laptop with bluetooth. A wire connection from cell phone to computer is available if you don’t have bluetooth.
that was a treat too!
Thanks for turning us on to theses guys. nice
he decided it was time for him to spread his wings and fly solo instead of a group blog.
now practicing Thero-dactylography
we use bluetooth to sync calendar & contacts from the various phones to the laptop.
hey pun
I’ve never had a cell phone but i think an openmoko would be cool.
yo, Suz…
lol, i like his subtitle, “Delusions of grammar”
I am sleepy pup leaving… waving to Suzanne!
pun! we needed you earlier…
pretenders in the afternoon threads!
night Elliott
waving back to elliott
singer’s voice has a bit of a John Hiatt sound
missed it
it’s always o-pun season for all comers…
so who do you have to know to get preview to work?
john hiatt and sunny landreth doing riding with the king
punaise, they are working on it. the list for the tech guys is still pretty long with all the bugs and glitch reports that have been sent out.
Did registration cut back on the amount of comments?
tw3k, it does at first. all the pups getting registered but the comments are picking back up. traffic has increased as a matter of fact – just take a gander at the sitemeter (and remember sitemeter was down the first part of last week)
This is smooth.. Big Joe Turner.
Does site meter count the ajax calls?
ES, that is sweet, thanks
what are ajax calls? limited sitemeter knowledge here
OK thanks didn’t mean to peeve you re preview :~)
hi, punaise!
not peeved at all and if i came across that way, pun, i sincerely apologize
ET! how ya doing tonight
the thing that checks to see if there are new comments.
idk sitemeter either.
ET – Your blog is fantastic.
From an fdl essayist, that is top shelf.
suzanne – COLD! I’d repeat that, but my fingers barely move. Plus 2F, blowing 50, gusting about 80.
Suz – word play gone awry: peeve you/preview. I was pulling your leg… that’s what the “:~) is for
hey
ET
ET, I found another Alaska blog I like – its a woman who does extreme bike riding up there. Reminds me of Roz Savage, who rowed across the Alantic and is going to row across the Pacific in 2008. Let me see if I can find her blog.
sorry, pun, that one flew right over my head (sheepish grin)
trying sleep again. back tomorrow with fewer pain meds and more brain cells
I find the new fdl paradigm restrictive to the additive poetic process.
suzanne. Yeah, she lives in Juneau and is getting ready for the Iditabike, an offshoot of the Iditarod sled dog race. My biggest extreme Alaska blog discovery ever is this one. They’re rafting, hiking and skiing from Seattle to Dutch Harbor. They’ve disappeared for the past week and a half or so, which isn’t surprising. I hope to interview them when they finally have to cross a fucking road.
fingers and toes crossed it works this time tex, pain free of course
thanks suz
et, i saw that one (i think it was over at your place maybe a few weeks ago). i hope they surface soon.
there are work arounds the paradigm, yanno – like cut and paste and using the ” icon
Wrong link in my previous. Should be this to find the raft/ski/hikers protesting Pebble Mine.
et, no posts since before thanksgiving is getting worrisome to landlubbers in the lower 48 like me.
They’ve left Icy Bay, headed for the inside of Kayak Island, where Bering finally realized he’d discoverd a new continent – the Stellar’s Jay sighting. From there, they have to cross the plain below Bering Glacier to get to the eastern edge of the Copper River delta, where they are finally coming into what is the Southcentral Alaska coast. Virtually nobody lives along about 250 miles of rugged coast, and the weather has not been nice since their last post. I’ve got my fingers crossed too.
If they start starving, they can always shoot one of the hundreds of Brown bears stalking them.
spew.. ya’ll see the editorial cartoon over at C&L?
Wow! Fortunately I have a couple of weeks experience far up into Glacier Bay under my belt, so I can relate to a little of what he is talking about. However, in weather like you are having right now.. I cannot imagine.
Hey, Eureka – being as well-versed as you are, I know I’m about to step into it here…
but ever heard of Bering Strait?
Know their secret?
Yeah! I’m going to go crawl under a thick quilt and a down comforter with Ms. ET and read Alaska explorer stories to her….
No I haven’t. Are they from Cally?
g’nite ET and stay warm
They are from Russia.
Really good sound.. They must have a patch or two of bluegrass in Russia somewhere..)
Well, my quilt is also calling.. think i will pack it in or I will hae to start a fire.
g’ nite
g’nite ES and I look forward to being able to finally see some of your music stash.
OT: How in God’s name did an NIE stating that the Iranians quite trying to make nukes years ago escape. It make Bush and Cheney look like idiots. It makes every senator who voted for Kyl-Lieberman look like an idiot. It makes all news agencies that reported on how many centrifuges were spinning and how fast separating weapons-grade U235 from useless U238 look like idiots. It makes the entire right-wing apparatus, noise-machine and all, look like the fools they are. But, how the hell did they manage to let this happen?
Even more improbably, it makes the Israel Lobby look like fools. Every leading candidate for president has gone before A*P*C and taken the pledge. Each has made the requisite speech about the unacceptability of Iran getting nukes and the immanence of that horrible prospect.
Also, I have some question about whether this NIE report is correct. Even Valerie Plame, right here on FDL, mentioned the malevolence of Iranian intent. And, I’ve read reports from pro-Iranian reporters telling of the determination of the rank-and-file Iranian people for Iran to have nukes of its own. And, given the U.S. behavior toward those with nukes (e.g. Iraq) vs. those without (e.g., Pakistan), who can blame them?
So, we’re faced with this question: Who let this report escape and why? So far as I can tell, the release of this report represents the end of the Bush presidency. He and his neocon buddies appear to no longer be in control of the apparatus of the Executive Branch of this government. My best guess is that the military has sort of mutinied and released this report because of their very real fear of this scenario: http://www.agoracosmopolitan.c…..01932.html
from wigwam’s link:
fuck
bigbrother to LS
Ruth Brown made Shake a Hand big on the Atlantic label. Google maybe you can find a copy it was the 50’s and very blue. I could see a voice over duet as awesome male to female
Thanks and I’ll echo suz – fuck.
I’m trying to piece it together in my mind. Bush, Cheney, the Republicans in Congress, way too many of the Democrats in Congress, the Israel Lobby, and Israel itself pushed us to the brink of a military adventure that would have wrecked the world economy, likely killed tens of thousands of people, and lost the Fifth Fleet on the basis of yet another bullshit lie. That is what has been announced today with the matter-of-fact acceptance as if yet-another blonde had gone missing.
IMHO, this is the scandal of the decade. Mike McConnell announced it right in front of God and everybody. So who’s behind this announcement?
McConnell, the DNI who announced this, is a Vice Admiral, but said in November that the NIE’s key Iran findings wouldn’t be released publicly. Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is Navy. Gates, the Secretary of Defense is career CIA. Somehow I detect blood on the floor, and it’s likely Cheney’s.
wigwam, do you think this is the pushback from the sane folks in the military or is it the pushback of those at CIA (or former CIA) who are doing the pushback?
Who was privately briefed on this and when?
There is a lot of interaction between the two. Remember AllTheSpook. He spoke of a network of current-and-ex DoD folks who worried about insanity running amok within the defense/intelligence establishment. Also, I’ve had friends who worked at the top levels of secrecy within those establishments, and they told me of informal networks of well intentioned folks who were concerned about the soundness of our “defense posture.”
If these reports about Iran’s activities are accurate and well documented, this sounds like a revolt of the reality-based community against rampant insanity. It’s the scandal of the decade in the sense that it has now been fully disclosed by the highest levels of government that the entire neocon establishment is full of shit and has been trying to involved us in yet-another war on a false premise. And mind you, it’s not just our neocons. The entire right wing in Israel has been pushing this agenda. And, if the CIA knows that the premise is bullshit, so does Mossad. (I can’t tell for sure what’s happening, but in any case, I’m astounded.)
On HardBall or CountDown (don’t remember which) they said that Hadley announced that the intelligence agencies came to this conclusion on Tuesday and the President was briefed on it on Wednesday. And, that’s why it wasn’t announced earlier.
On the other hand, there were reasons to believe this was all known for at least six months, but I don’t remember what those reasons were.
check out the group news blog’s video they have up from brave new films… who pays for rudy’s mistresses
Can’t help but wonder what (internal political) result if we attacked Iran and this horror ensued.
Attaturk’s upstairs
ES! Meow!
