There were people in the 60s who successfully avoided the draft by eating hot crossed buns full of speed that exhibited less insane behavior than Chris Shays has of late. His opponent Jim Himes joins us today to talk about "Crazy Shaysie," his run for the only House seat in the northeast that remains in Republican hands, and why "Blackwater" has become a four-letter word.

As a member of the House Oversight Committee, Shays has engaged in a series of what can most charitably be described as politially tone-deaf defenses of Blackwater’s Erik Prince, Lurita Doan and of course Donald Rumsfeld. He has the great misfortune to be going up against one of the Democrats best and brightest, Jim Himes,

This is very netroots-centric campaign — Jim’s campaign manager is none other than long-time blogger http://www.firedoglake.com/2007/10/26/. I’ll also note with pride that the number of contributors to Jim’s campaign last quarter from Blue America outnumbered the total number of contributors to Chris Shays. Which is pretty cool.

Please welcome Jim in the comments.
