George Bush has finally gotten the General to take off his uniform and slip into something more comfortable [Friday is Casual Vader Day]. Give him credit though, he remembered to wear a “Flag Pin”.
And now Musharraf has declared Sunday, December 16th to be Pakistan’s National “Let Bygones-be-Bygones…or else Day”. Having managed to use a military coup to rig his country’s Supreme Court until he gets his perpetual Presidency reannointed, there’s no reason to ever suspect anything nefarious. After all it is a good enough democracy for the the man made President by our own Supreme Court.
I’m sure that ultimately this will all work out real swell.

He looks better in black, anyway.
I wonder if Dr. Rice and he shoe-shop together…
Morning, Attaturk!
Good morning.
So, does this make him a unitary President?
I’m wondering if our commander guy took notes on how it’s done. First Burma-(alright, Myanmar)- then Pakistan, could it happen here?
It’s a sad commentary I’m even thinking about it.
welcome and zeidsh.
Mornin’, pups -
Haven’t checked the most recent comments on LLN but will send the following into this thread in hopes it’s new to some.
The thugs are getting their knickers in a twist b/c the NY Public Library has some “mug shots” of shrub et al on display:
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/….._1129.html
Guess the offended ain’t acquainted with watertiger or darkblack. *g*
But….but….but….the library is a “public” place. /s
flag pins and mug shots, oy!
tw3k @ 6
Speaking of flag pins…..wonder how many of the thugs were wearing them for hte “debate” the other night?
Mika supposed to interview Webb on scar sometime this a.m.
Waccamaw @ 7
I didn’t watch much of the debate. What is that circle one Edwards wears?
tw3k -
I hate the hypocrisy they’ve come to represent so much that I automatically tune them out…would be happy if they disappeared from lapels FOREVER!
Do you have to illuminate a flag pin at night?
BTW – any old Scouts remember the correct method of disposal for a flag which has become soiled or sullied?
mack -
lol
Never been a Scout but isn’t there some special burning ceremony that’s carried out? Don’t know if it has to be done only by proscribed persons tho’.
The pin thing is pretty ridiculous.
and burn the flag :)
Thanks for the updates, Attaturk.
Good morning Everybody,
I have spent a couple of hours going through the threads of the last twelve hours on FDL.
Remarkable.
Thank you to all who made it possible for me to learn that much while having coffee.
Well, scar doesn’t think the flap about rudy/judy “will amount to anything”. I’m sure his campaign staff feels so much better now. ;-)
I say, “Let’s collect lapel pins and burn them!” Isn’t that what the thugs did to Dixie Chicks cds?
Webb and Tester now up on scar (interviewing from Iraq).
Awwww, how cute. Musharraf wore his flag pin just like Busharraf here in America does.
Good Morning everyone!
Yes, the flag lapel pin is such a nice touch, an American inspiration.
The only reason Bush wanted Musharraf out of uniform is because Bush can’t wear one himself, much as he’d like to parade around all scrambled egged and bemedalled…
Initially the pins were so gigantic, they required lapels a la 1970 just to support em.
Looks like they’re tapering off – size has been gradually diminishing over the last year or so.
Elliott @ 17
bush kinda reminds me of that old “this is your brain on drugs” commercial with scrambling eggs.
SunnyNobility @ 18
need flag bling now *g
morning!
tw3k @ 19
Hmmm … what would make you think that? :)
mornin’?
I get wspecially annoyed at flag waverswearers who do not understand or exhibit respect.
In this regard, I find it peculiar, to say the least, that those who are most concerned with observing, maintaining and preserving the liberties enumerated in the Constitution are the “far left”.
I always thought that the ‘far left’ would be those who reject the Constitution and wish to replace it.
Attaturk notes that now Friday is Casual Vader Day… *g*
oh quick CSPAN 1 has GWB whining about how the dems are trying to destroy our troops
*hits wall*
gn y’all!
g’nite tw3k!

Good morning all. Ever since my college sophomore course in logic wherein I learned that symbols often had very different meanings for different people, I have not been a great advocate of anyone’s flag.
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Krugman in the NYT today. Bobo is in Beijing, and considers Chinese culture, God help us. He says the Cultural Revolution swept away much of the old Chinese culture. Dignity is now defined by money and French and Italian luxury goods. Mr. Krugman, in a piece titled “Mandates and Mudslinging,” says Barack Obama’s reluctance to stake out a clearly partisan position led him to propose a relatively weak, incomplete health care plan.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast made with challah. There’s real maple syrup, but there’s also a gingered peach topping that’s delicious. Have a great Friday.
Good mornin’!
Right after 9-11 I liked the solidarity of seeing flags everywhere, but now looking back I see that all differently. I used to like our flag, always thought the design made it snappiest flag in the world. I’m ashamed of it now.
Elliott @ 31
I knew I was in trouble when, during the last Olympics, I realized that I wasn’t rooting for the American athletes any more.
P.S. We can all stop worrying about the Rudy-Judy-bill-it-to-the-city affair, becaus the talkers on JoeScar have unamimously decided that it’s no big deal.
So there.
Waccamaw-
I say, “Let’s collect lapel pins and burn them!” Isn’t that what the thugs did to Dixie Chicks cds?

Oh, please lets.. and include the magnetic yellow ribbons.
(alternatively, we could pack em in those empty vessel containers and ship em back to china – expect they could find a use for them, preferably non-dietary)
As long as Musharraf remembers to stay on his leash and who is on the other end of that leash he can expect lots more American “support and $$” surely enough.
Saddam forgot the “leash rule” and now he is dead because of it…had Saddam went with the Americans “cash and carry” politics like a good Iraqi dictator should he would still be in his palaces and dictating…and WashDC would happily be setting up western “oil biz” franchises in Iraq and telling the world how wonderful Saddam was.
Remember…American leash is a good thing…do not cock it up though as that is a bad thing…
I noticed Yahoo Home Page “News” headlined that “thousands” in Venezuela protested Chavez–undoubtedly the Americans are involved in this pot-stir in less than transparent and surely politically nefarious ways.
See American Leash Rule and Chavez. Also see Marcos,Suharto,Mobutu,Somoza.
Chavez = Bad
Musharraf = Good
Iran under Shah = Good
Iran not under Shah = Bad
Iraq under “Good” Saddam = Good
Iraq under “Bad” Saddam = Bad
Iraq under American colonial puppets = Good
Israeli occupation/expungement of Arab Palestine = Good
Arab Palestinian resistance to Israeli occupation/expungement conduct = Bad
Remember…the United States stands for what is right and good, spreads democracy and only wants peoples of the world to be free and happy under good governance…
…just like good ‘ol USofA…
Ain’t it swell?…sure is…yup…sure is…
Rudy evidently explained it to Katie Couric thusly:
“Hey, it was nothing new. I was doing it during my first term too. Since the Police Department had a history of slow payment, we billed it through other agencies, and then the Police Dept reimbursed them.”
So when Katie followed up with the question “but isn’t the police department money from the taxpayers, too?”, Rudy said…….
HA – had ya goin’ there for a moment, didn’t I? Katie asking an incisive follow-up? I crack myself up.

I’m reading through the Old Coastie thread
did y’all see it? Nothing like some effective citizen action to brighten the day! WooHoo!
Sunny -
Don’t see as many of them littl’ yeller ribbons as you once did…ditto W bumper stickers. ;-)
Maybe someone should do a lead/asbestos test on them suckers. *g*
Oh, mercy! some retired NY police officer on CNN with his vehicle painted as a giant flag…and he doesn’t want to give up his plate that says, “Get Osama”. Guess I can sorta understand the sentiment given his profession and location but still and all the same……I thought technically you weren’t supposed to use the flag on anything, except for its originally intended purpose.
Waccamaw @ 38
Here’s the rules and regs for US Flag etiquette
Now come on everybody, admit it. You are all just jealous…
Wearing the flag pin is such a fantastic piece of snark that we wish we could have advised it.
Maybe Pervez has a sense of humor? Remember boys and girls, dictators need not be dour.
Lets say it together.
Dictators need not be dour.
Elliott @ 31
Don’t be ashamed of the flag, it’s still a good flag.
Be ashamed of the jerks in the WH who are pissing on what the flag stands for.
We can make it great again…
Bilbo @ 28
I visited Eastern Europe in the early 90’s, and noticed a profusion of Confederate battle flags. I discovered that to them it was a symbol of rock-and-roll and freedom, emphasizing the rebellion aspect of the flag. I explained to a number of people that it was a bit more complicated than that over here.
Elliott -
Wonder if a vehicle would be considered “anything that is designed for temporary use and discard”?

What part of the state – east, mid, west – if you don’t mind my asking? Hope to get any pups in the western end together early January before danger of snow.
It’s time we stopped blaming Bush for all the mess and start blaming Republicans in general. They’ve been blocking up Congress. They let Bush have his way. They were the most corrupt Congress in the last 100 years.
At least we know where Rove has been since exiting the WH bunker. First he went to Myanmar to assist the ruling junta, then on to Pakistan for the Musharif shenanigans and now he is in Russia helping to rig the elections there. A busy man is kkkkarl.
He, by the way, is rumoured to have the ‘mercun flag tattooed on his ass.
nomolos @ 45
o and that is a broadside
George Simian @ 44
except that now the dems are in (nominal) control of congress… so, any responsibility that falls on congress, now falls partially on dems too.
Boston1775 @ 13
Ditto from somewhere else in the BayBlueState. Careful, though, FDL snark has a well documented tendency to propel the coffee from mouth to screen on the way to ROFL. Bad for screen, bad for relations with significant others who fast asleep, I’ve learned.
new scarecrow up top:
http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..g-problem/
selise @ 47
That’s true, except for a. it was the six years of Bush and the Repugs that got us into these messes and b. the Repugs are blocking everything in Congress and Bush is vetoing what’s left. We have to put blame where blame is due. The Repugs are trying to blame the Democrats (and immigrants) for everything from losing the war in Iraq to the impending credit crisis. Democrats better get out in front of that.
Waccamaw-
Don’t see as many of them littl’ yeller ribbons as you once did…ditto W bumper stickers. ;-)

Yellow ribbons have surely gone to the super seekret “Baby on Board” place.
and I’m gone..
president for life…he must be going to the Hugo Chavez school…Shrub probably wishes he could go too…
this has totally been a dress rehearsal for what Bush and Cheney want (or the next GOP pres). You can bet our press would be totally suckered into accepting all of it–and even selling it to us as somehow acceptable–especially if it has an “expiration date” like this.
Don’t forget we certainly wrote that Abraham Lincoln speech for him too, and have been allowing all of it and throwing him billions for his own personal use.
Ahh, our noble leader….
Yes, Musharraf is making himself president for life, but, in a masterful stroke of international statesmanship, Bush has managed to get him to change his clothes first.
We in the United States have so much to be proud of.
