RBG!
Hey, neighbor, up late again, I see…
FunnyD
I just finished brushing the cat fur off after roflmao after reading this
Mommybrain @ 8
only into the first paragraph and i’m already spewing about the little f-16’s in the pants.
Wow…now I actually know what a guest poster must feel like when they can’t answer the questions fast enough.
Laura Doty @ 5
And where have you been ma’am? I was about to dust off my face book page and send out an SOS..)
Mommybrain @ 8
And I’m LMAO because I’ve thought EXACTLY that reading that little “monthly fortune”. Nice to know I’m crazy in a way similar to a very brilliant satirist!.
FunnyD
did anyone tell downstairs?
Suzanne @ 13
I did.
thanks you es
RBG @ 10
Hah! And you weren’t even trying to keep up with the Gooper debate threads below. _I_ couldn’t keep up as a commenter, that’s for sure.
FunnyD
Any chance of getting TRex’s new digs added to the blogroll?
MaxRoach/Deeds not Words
Funnydiva2002 @ 7
Hey, you. Saw you in the comments this afternoon. Was gonna chime in but didn’t want any distractions while doing my nails.
Mommybrain @ 8
lol!
RBG @ 18
At least you have nails to “do”. Mine are hopeless, even when short.
Yeah, I had a fun day commenting. Didn’t get anything else done, but it was fun. Except for getting up to feed the cat at 7pm and realizing I hadn’t really eaten or drunk anything since mid-morning. (and that only because I was lightheaded and unsteady!).
FunnyD
Must *poof* now, this time for realzies!
*waving g’nite to the sleepy pups leaving*
Suzanne @ 3
Saw them at this little festival this summer and thought they had great energy.

tw3k @ 19
Hey tw3k…remember this?
This could prove to be interesting.
ES, I hear that the vote may come before the release of the lobbying efforts to what congresscritters.
RBG @ 25
yeah
Eureka Springs @ 27
We can sure hope. I tell you it has been discouraging waiting for the scandal that finally bring this national nightmare to an end.
Telecom spying sure should be the one to put impeachment back “on the table”.
Eureka Springs @ 27
That’s a bit more than a “minor” victory.
Thanks!

i heart EFF
Well they had best get back to DC and vote. CNET has this.

Suzanne @ 28
But they are going to be in a major maelstrom either way. If they were lobbied ($$$) heavily by the telecoms they face the wrath of voters, particularly if the contents of those lobbying efforts are suggestive of bribery.
The fact that the Judge ruled on this now may give many of those lobbied second thoughts about what they did. By voting against immunity they will appear to have no quid pro quo. The Telecoms and Congresscritters needed the identities and contents of these efforts to go undisclosed.
Eureka Springs @ 33
Damn, That’s the one I’ve eagerly anticipated… Yee-Haw… Pass the Popcorn…!
cinnamonape @ 34
well that is what they should do but.. these are goopers and bushdogs and lawd only knows what those forkers will do
tw3k @ 34
Marys comment just below the link you posted is very good.
Now we get to see if the WH will ignore a court order as readily as a congressional subpeona.
And will the court roll over as easy as congress if they do choose to ignore it?
I think I’m gonna get some extra butter for the popcorn next time I go to the store. Looks like tomorrow may be a good time to stock up.
What are you listening to tonight?
Thelma Houston, and mourning divas. Not in a sad mood, just feel like listening to divas wail tonight.
Smgumby @ 39
Federal District court. Mukasey is on-deck.

Masharrif sworn in as Civilian President
Interesting Gimmick..take Bush’s advice and remove the military uniform.
I hope there was not a photo op for his removing his uniform. yuck and let me add, ick
so, what happens when boosh is presented with a valid court order he doesn’t like? does he ignore it? if so, what then?
i don’t think they can frog march boosh out of his office and into the hoosgow for contempt of court – or can they – for ignoring a court order?
Suzanne @ 50
Higher court?
Suzanne @ 50
Uh, Clinton did it… Ooh, the irony… *g*
CT, wasn’t that a civil court decision? this is criminal lcourt iirc, since it involves warrants – not civil.
Suzanne @ 54
True, Precedence is set at a lower bar… ;-)

Suzanne @ 50
The general’s uniform was so cold war *g
Oh, my. The EEF is good. The deadline to turn over documents is Friday?
Ok, we know the docs won’t be turned over on time, but this sounds like it’s heating up. Perhaps this federal judge will assert her authority more forcefully than congress. Ahem.
CTuttle @ 59
That might take even longer to find…I seem to have this short term memory problem.
Edit; but word is that Suzanne doesn’t suffer from the same malady.
i wonder if boosh is planning on borrowing that there uniform now that musharaff no longer needs it. i do think that musharaff is doing what boosh wants to do here.
RBG,
Georges Collinet has played Zap Mama on Afropop a couple of times to illustrate musical cross pollination. They’re from Belgium, which is sorta weird, huh? First time I’ve seen them. Thanks!
RBG @ 67
nope. ya’ll forget that i was a highly trained professional observer in my former occupation
hey et… hows alaska today? i really thought there would be an indictment by now up there of the stevens clan…
RBG @ 67
That she doesn’t… chillingly so…! ;-)
Ed*ard Teller @ 69
I’d have to dig for a bit but I vaguely remember that immigration is how some of them ended up in Belgium.
ct, just imagine me as a pissed off wife. now imagine me as a pissed off ex wife. now multiply by two.
Hi all. I came up with a cover design for Time magazine’s next issue. What do you think? Too brazen?
Cujo359 @ 75
truth in advertising!
RBG @ 73
The roots of their music are from the Congo. I’ve noticed several riffs in stuff I’ve heard, and now the clip you’ve posted, that remind me of the long out-of-print Ocora album, Musique Kongo, which was the inspiration for a couple of the songs on Herbie Hancock’s “Headhunters.”
Ed*ard Teller @ 69
Not a whole lot wierder than how all those white kids in England adopted the blues once upon a time, I suppose.

Excellent. (From the person of the year)
tw3k @ 80
Actually, it’s a slight edit of one of their past covers about the Internet. The words that don’t quite look right are the ones I added/edited.
Wish I could claim credit for the YouTube thing, but it’s way beyond my cut-n-paste abilities.
Suzanne @ 74
Don’t go all algebra on me with ‘X’ and all… ;-)
Suzanne @ 81
Yes, along with Jeff Beck, the Stones and, of all people, Tom Jones. Saw them on a PBS special “Martin Scorcese’s The Blues” or something like that. Wish I’d been able to record it.
Suzanne @ 81
*sigh* He was a Canuck, Suz… :P
i watched that scorcese, cujo. just got done watch the 2007 clapton crossroads guitar festival (from chicago this year) on pbs – love them pledge breaks – all kinda good music on them (at least here in nor/central calif)

Suzanne @ 87
I’ll have to watch for that up here. We have two different PBS stations in this area, and they don’t have their pledge breaks simultaneously. I saw a Crossroads concert from a couple of years ago, and it was terrific.

Okay, Canadian Father, tho… I’d read he was Canadian… Live and learn… ;-)
Don’t think there’s any question about the nationality of this video’s singer.

Who the f*ck is Nancy Pelosi to suspend a portion of the Constitution of the United States of America, which she is sworn to uphold? If she can take impeachment off the table, why can Bush take presidential elections off the table?
Another funky DC5 tune…

Pretty good. I just love looking at these videos, even with the so-so sound on most of them.
The third click got me to these guys, who were also on that Scorcese special:

Marie Daulne, was the daughter of a Belgian Walloon and his Kisingani (Congo) wife. He was killed by Simba rebels, who opposed interracial marriage, when she was an infant. Her mother fled into the jungle with her, where they were hidden by Pygmies, until the Belgian community was evacuated from the area. Because of the marriage Marie was a Belgian citizen, and her mother was given residency status from the marriage.

Maybe a bit like one with the Church of Fred Phelps in attendance? Hey, and it hit all the same hot-spots…Iraq, gays, terrorists, wacko anti-abortionists, and fundy Christians!
c’ape, sad when European countries have better (and more humanitarian) immigration policies than we do. Here, ICE would separate the kids from the mom and deport mom.
A good read:
The U.S. Aggression Process and Its Collaborators: From Guatemala (1950-1954) to Iran (2002-)
Makes me wonder two things. Why not disband the UN since it really does not function in accordance with its’ mission and to what extent could could a multinational corporation be classified as a non-state actor?
g’nite eureka
Suzanne @ 119
Not sure about that. The ICE has started to do this with illegal immigrants with “legal” kids…but not if there is a legally recognized marriage involved. But in the US “nativism” has varied widely over history.
Sometimes the US is more open, other times Europeans…but don’t package all of those countries into one. In many places in Europe xenophobia is even greater than here in the US…with active rioting and regular assaults and discrimination…even for legal residents.
Germany has fourth generation Turkish-descended kids who still can’t get citizenship because they won’t naturalize anyone without German “blood”. But I had a friend who swears his father, from Central Africa, was accorded German citizenship because of his assisting and rescuing a German expedition to Africa during the early 1920’s. He traveled to Germany, married, and then fled to Denmark during the rise of Hitler. He, and his wife and son, were protected by the Danes…though how you hide a black-man in an all white country I’ll never understand. But the Danes did it.
John Xichai is now a Danish citizen, and “National Cultural Hero” for his jazz career…he has performed in ensembles with John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, as well as others.
nice music tie in, c’ape. what are you listening to?
tw3k @ 120
great link. i’m a big fan of george kenney.
Here’s a little more on the
Rudy Giuliani Sex Romp Scandal
‘Course Rudy blames it on his security detail putting the charges into the wrong accounts. How odd? The auditor finds that none of his regular “Calendar” appearances end up off the police accounting books…just the ones that relate to “Judy visits” and a few other unofficial visits (to Florida, for example).
And I wonder if services to things like the Disabled and the Low Income Legal Defense funds were cut as a result of Giuliani’s trying to hide his actions from public scrutiny?
So not only is he an adulterer and embezzler…it seems that he stole from the needy!
oops. now i see that kenney posted the article, but it was written by Edward S. Herman and David Peterson (herman i know from his work on “manufacturing consent” with chomsky)

Attaturk upstairs
The Politico report contains all sorts of suggestive lurid details about the Playboy Rudy. Such as
~ Playboy Rudy was apparently involved with Judy nathan long before previously reported, or suspected by his wife. The “hidden” records of visits near Nathan’s condominium stretch for three years…from the summer of 1999 to the week before the 9/11 attacks.
~ Rudy used his son as cover for his affairs. Rudy’s second marriage was thought to be intact until the spring of 2000. His mysterious weekend absences were explained away by his aides by saying he was spending time with his (now estranged) son and playing golf. So much for “Family Values”.
~ While Rudy was accorded 24-365 police protection as mayor, other expenses, such as travel and hotel expenses for personnel would have been increased for “overnighters” away from Manhattan. Although many of the trips show expenses only for gas, though his police detail billed the city $1,371.40 for the nights of Aug. 3-4, 2001, at the Village Latch Inn in Southampton.
~ No “legitimate” security expenses – as recorded on the Mayor’s Appointments Calendar, are placed in unrelated city offices or programs. It is only those that are “off calendar” that appear to be shuttled into such agencies as the Loft Board ($34,000), the Office for People With Disabilities ($10,054), the Procurement Policy Board ($29,757), and the Assigned Counsel Administrative Office ($400,000).
~ The Loft Board was created to make sure that Loft conversions were safe and not fire-traps. The Assigned Counsel Office made sure that impoverished defendants had access to defense counsel. The People with disabilities assisted the handicapped access city services. Giuliani’s pilfering from their budgets may have created dangerous and discriminatory conditions for the indigent and disabled.
The Cover UP~ The Comptroller’s Office made repeated requests for the information in 2001-2002 but was informed that, due to “security concerns, the information would not be provided.
The Comptroller found travel costs had skyrocketted by 151% in Giuliani’s final fiscal year, to more than $618,000, which inclded trips to Los Angeles by Donna Hanover, Giuliani’s estranged wife. Most of that travel also was billed to obscure agencies, though portions — much of it trips to and from Washington by Giuliani deputies — were accounted for more conventionally, with a more visible charge to the mayor.
Was There Another Mistress?
One “off-the-Books” trip remains mysterious. The detectives spent $1,714.99 at The Breakers, a sprawling hotel and resort in Palm Beach, Florida. There is no indication that Nathan visited Palm Beach, and where Giuliani stayed and the reason for his visit is unrecorded.
How did anyone miss following up on Rudy’s implication that Romney should have checked workers at his house better when he recommended Kerik for DHS?
http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/bu…..rnie_kerik
