Racist fucking cult member.

After George, I presumed it was impossible to be too stupid to be president. Wrong again.

The Bush administration is full of Evangelical Christians hired not for any expertise but for their religious fervor. We have seen the damage that has done. Why should the next president bring someone into his or her Cabinet based on their religion.

dakine01 @ 69

I heard they got sued over that, and quit doing it. Or at least quit talking about it: what they say now is that everyone gets an option (after death) to become a Mormon.
(I figure once you’re dead, it doesn’t matter much to you. It’s only the living who care.)

You can find a lot of information other places, if you really want to find your dead ancestors. Try Rootsweb and USGenNet(free) or Ancestry (requires money). They’re owned by the same people, but the aim is a bit different.
For software, I use Rootsmagic (Family Tree Maker is not as good).
All the software (and nearly everything else in the field) comes out of Utah.

yes, I’d like to cast an eye on those!

would also love to see the tablets Moses brought down from the mountain and the ark that held them.

I think you can get almost the same effect from going to the Creation Museum:

http://scalzi.com/whatever/?p=121

Warning, I have not laughed this hard, in a long, long time. If you are at all reverent, this ain’t!

Report on the NYC WGA rally in Washington Square Park at noon.

Rally lasted about 1-1/4 hours. John Edwards was there, as were Jerrold Nadler, Scott Stringer, Manhattan Borough President, another politico who I forgotten, actors like Danny Glover & Aasif Mandvi from TDS, a bunch of union leaders, like teachers, AFL-CIO, NYS-SEIU, other entertainment guilds, etc. Neither Clinton nor Obama showed. They both sent statements. Clinton’s was greated with absolute silence, Obama’s with light polite applause. Also absent was Mayor Bloomberg or any other NYC U.S. representative. Schumer neither attended nor sent a statement.

I’m bad at crowd estimates. Thought there might have been 500-1000. However, when I went to try to find a WGA button at the end, they said they had brought 1,000 & given out all of them. Don’t know how many asked for multiples, but saw less than half the crowd wearing them. So perhaps attendance was as much as 2,000.

The program was well organized and snapily run. However, the nature of the crowd was that it was hard to get it roaring. You know how those folks are who work with their heads.

I’m not related to the industry but I want to support their efforts. I am also curious to see first hand how labor is organizing. There’s definitely a realization that the stakes are high, with one person saying it was the first strike of the 21st Century. Nevertheless, there didn’t seem to be a lot of momentum. Probably going up a learning curve, since it has been so long since labor has been anything but moribund. The worm begins to turn.

Things they could have done better. Too few signs, too few buttons. They should have brought thousands of the latter. I was hoping to wear it around Manhattan, on subways, etc, which makes a statement & spreads the word. I also saw little media. There were a couple of radio stations, but no TV that I saw. Perhaps the MSM won’t cover the strike because they view it as a threat to their business. But in the Internet age, there’s got to be alternative ways to get out the message & get it viral. Perhaps there were alternate media there that I didn’t see, but there must be a really big effort if MSM won’t cover it.
