Hi RBG…. in Chico CA this week and have not planned a meet up yet…. wow I must be slipping.
RBG knew the party downstairs was getting a little crowded so he fixed us up a fresh new party pad.
did someone let downstairs know?
Did I spend so long catching up on comments that I missed my chance to thank TRex?

Loo Hoo. @ 6
Let’s just say I don’t plan to make it a regular gig :>)
RBG, How many days until the first pitch…? ;-)
Since we have neither a topic nor a lot of traffic, perhaps this would be a good time for someone to explain to me:
1) What is “digg”?
2) Why do you do it?
3) How do you do it?
Thanks!!!
If you digg something, it will take you to a website that has links that explain what it is
CTuttle @ 16
Sorry, ain’t going there.
Dayum. Look what happens when I take a break from the internet!
I am going to a Dan Lungren town hall meeting tomorrow night in Folsom. Do yall have any questions you want me to ask him.
well, looks like Ahnold was to privatize public infrastructue in CA…
gonna suck!
neurophius @ 17
This will explain.
late night candy
OldCoastie @ 22
God damn it! My stomach is already starting to hurt. What the fuck? They have already sold many of the water districts to private companies. Now I know that health care reform with never happen with that thick fucker as governor.
marymccurnin @ 25
I guess we must start kicking and screaming… I’m hating this big-time.
Thanks, TJ and newtonusr
Amy Winehouse? Wow she’s not a bad sanger when she’s not puking and snorting and fallin down from the weight of that horrifying makeup. Blech. Not bad at all.
I thought you ran people off of FDL for that “Attttaaaaacccccck” stuff. Oh, wait. Maybe that was something else. Nemmind.
well, it is late and I must sleep with my sad, tear-stained eyes…
ah-nold learned the boosh method – take as much of the government as possible for your buddies to privatize and make as much money from as possible during your time at the helm.
marymccurnin @ 21
Ask him if he knows when Doolittle’s gonna resign!
Suzanne @ 29
I still don’t understand the “privatize the lottery” scheme of Arnold’s.
Ask Lungren about Arnold’s privatization and where he stands on it.
Yeah, Go Code Pink…

“Not so welcome, however, was the third group, Code Pink, which arrived minutes later.
The D.C. activists came bearing pink poster boards and equally loud T-shirts and feather boas. And the crowning piece of their prop collection: a bigger-than-life papier-m¿ch¿ replica of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s head.”

When you hear the word privatize you need to ask who is going to be making 30% profit on work that used to be NOT for profit government work at MY expense?
I can’t even think about Arnold right now, so good night all!
sleep well loo hoo
And I guess that’s what I can contribute to the discussion. :p I need to go to bed. Night, all.

The Guardian
“We’re off to a strong start,” George Bush quipped at the end of his opening speech to the conference, but he mangled Mahmoud Abbas’s first name and fumbled a handshake between the Palestinian president and Israel’s prime minister, Ehud Olmert, that didn’t quite live up to the occasion’s historic billing.

I am off to bed to dream of TRex and his new blog. Goodnight my friends. See you in the morrow.
sleep well mary.

news briefs:
FBI hopes new Web site will help nab bandits
from Star-Telegram
By MARK AGEE
There has been a 25 percent increase in bank robberies nationwide since 2000, according to FBI data. DALLAS — The Scarecrow Bandits robbed their 10th bank in the Dallas-Fort Worth area Friday.
The pair, named because of their flannel shirts and straw hats, have become more violent each time and recently assaulted bank tellers, authorities said.
But now the FBI is hoping its new Web site — bandittracker.com — will help get the surveillance photos, and pictures of bad guys from around Texas, in front of thousands of sets of eyes. The recently launched site has photos, sketches and reward information for about 100 bank robbers from around the state, including the Scarecrow Bandits.
“These guys are going to hurt someone,” said Bob Casey, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Dallas division. “We want to catch them by Christmas.”

It’s definitely true, though perhaps not quite as good news for them as would be a landslide victory for Democrats.

TexBetsy @ 60
Uh oh, Betsy
I think you’ve been pwned. A commenter over at Glenn Greenwald’s last post about the Time debacle was gloating over a spot of wiki-vandalism. May want to re-read tomorrow during the day when it’s reverted.
Unless teh Google brings up any legit news stories…
FunnyDiva
I’m off to sleep. See y’all tomorrow.
Oops, Betsy was quoting Atrios, who was probably being snark-i-licious.
Fact remains, there is more than a rumor of wiki-vandalism on that entry over at Salon.
FunnyDiva
Night, Betsy
Sleep well!
FunnyD
is basically what Joe Klein said about the FISA bill. Atrios was just turning the snark on Stengel, big time.
TexBetsy @ 66
I wish ya pain free sleep!
thanks CT and funnyD
Ooh, Frontline is on here! I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
TheOtherWA @ 69
Ha! Now I get it.
And I have a mental image of Atrios with a firehose, like in the olden civil rights era!
FunnyDiva
I like that image, FunnyDiva.
Good night, all. Back at it tomorrow.
katymine @ 35
Here’s the best part: thanks to the fact that all the people who used to do what’s been privatized for the government will be joining the private industry, soon no one in government will understand how it really works. Lovely system.
No more TRex? The place just won’t be the same. If you’re still around TRex, thanks for the laughs. If not, well, I’ll catch you over at your new place. Blogger ain’t so bad once you get used to it.
Echo … echo … echo …
Well, everyone have a good evening.
nite cujo
Hey, Loo Hoo – you asleep?
goodnite everyone….
newtonusr @ 79
Apparently. I’m not.

hey et, 41 down here tonight, but we are supposed to be really dropping temps at night starting tomorrow with clear skies – perhaps back down to the 29 we had friday nite.

Hey, ET!
I’m either wrong, or Exxon has had this case gamed out to last 30 years…
very depressing what they’ve been able to do in the courts.
Good night, Suzanne, ET, newtonusr, whoever else is here…
Jeez, Amy is 24-25. I can’t remember making sterling decisions that i’m holding the flag for except oh yeah, rock against racism, fighting for the environment, voting rights. Yeah, things have changed since the 70s, 80s, 90s, and aughts. They’ve gotten better and we can trust the powers that be to work in our best interest…they are fucking scarey, like worse than Stalin, Hitler, Chucky. Help, Cecil, Help!
nite neurophius
i’m here but am leaving. have an early morning ahead of me tomorrow – i have to be up before (gasp) noon. g’nite all
newtonusr @ 83
Yeah. My son was born as the oil was leaving Prince William Sound and entering the Gulf of Alaska – late May, 1989. A friend nicknamed ET Jr. “Slick” at the time. Well, “Slick” is a freshman in college now!
Ed*ard Teller @ 88
Yeah, and I assume the name Hazelwood is unmentionable in your parts..
i recall it like it was yesterday, and thinking that, although it took an environmental catastrophe, Congress would move mountains to make “corporate America” play it straight. Fuckin’ dreamer.
newtonusr @ 89
Hazelwood created more jobs than any Alaska governor ever did. They just didn’t last very long. Notice that the Exxon Valdez attracted worldwide media attention for months, but that NO subsequent oil spill anywhere – even that big – has gotten anything close to that amount of attention.
Ed*ard Teller @ 90
The conspiracy theorist in me wonders how that is possible, that the industrialist-powerhouses have managed to curb the news cycle. But after spending time in places like this, I don’t wonder anymore. They do it right before our eyes daily, and the money exchanges hands in daylight. Amazing.
I suppose that a pliant media and an apathetic public are what you get just before folks wake up and decide not to accept it. Question is, how much more of that road do we have to travel before that inevitability.
Hmmm, anyone still around interested in the CA privatization thing? If you’re for really gearing for battle, you might find this syllabus in public finance useful.
Obviously the more basic econ you’ve studied the better, but the Stiglitz main text and many of the other readings should be fairly intelligible even without any background. The main point, which is unlikely to surprise folks around here, is that there’s much more to providing public goods than getting them “cheaply,” e.g. accountability, transparency, etc. also matter. The readings in the syllabus delve into these issues analytically, something that I think you’ll find politicos from the other side rarely do straightforwardly; as usual, they’ll be the ones chanting the buzzwords.
TheOtherWA @ 69
Atrios is downright brutal:
For anyone not following the story, these are mocks of Joe Klein’s reporting, which Rick Stengel tolerates and defends.

ah, I get it. I’m kinda slow some times *g
They have unshakable faith in the infallibility of the unseen hand.
A-a-a-a-a-men-n-n-n.
(In my darker moments, I actually don’t think that’s true. They just find it a useful rhetorical device. You know —a con. Like all cons, it’s probably true somewhere, just not when and where it’s mostly likely to be invoked, by some people.)
prostratedragon @ 102
I once read an econ book by Galbraith, “Almost Everyone’s Guide to Economics” or something similar. He make that point that at the same time they preach the wonders of the free market most American businessmen do everything possible to insulated themselves from it — and none of them see any hypocricy in doing so.
Damn, it’s that time. G’nite all.
