We’ll get back to the 60’s for much of the winter. This is temporary.

Wish that was true of where this country is headed also, but I won’t hold my breath.

I PREDICT Senator Webb’s “very junior status” WILL be a thing of the past and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his ascension to maybe even 1600 one of these days. I think Senator Webb is one of few true last stand patriots and I THANK HIM for his work, dedication to his principles and his commitment to supporting the other half of the 2006 election mandate: REIGN IN THE BU$H CABAL! Thank you as well to the good folks of VA and to Mike Stark and his tremendous role in that decision.

Yes, Reid did a good thing here. Would that it could be the beginning of a trend!?!!!

“Bush has probably earned Reid’s suspicions.”
-Winston-Salem Journal

Du ya think? What tipped you off the big stuff or the fact that the guys just recess appoints and signing statements himself into dictator - or the fact that some of the nominees now just don’t bother to answer questions or reply to written requests since they are waiting for the king maker to just crony them in during the recess. Wide awake in america.

madmommy @ 92

TexBetsy @ 90

perhaps it’s faster to simply copy names and addresses from the phone book

What are the California rules regarding signatures on petitions? Copying would seem to be very easy, how, if possible, is that sort of thing avoided?

There is a sampling of about 10% of the submissions to establish that the name, address and signature match the submitted voter registration form. They also check for duplications, and non-county submissions. There is a certain standard that has to be met of that 10% sample which would disqualify the measure. If the confirmed signatures are between 90-110% of the target..all the signatures for a county have to be checked. But if the number of confirmations are 110% or above the “target” then it will be accepted.

Basically it’s a method to determine if egregious fraud has occurred in submitting illegal signatures.

What happened in Old Coasties case was a bit different. The signatories were likely legal voters in the County, but they were defrauded and placed their signatures on initiatives that were concealed from view.

I think that the Secretary of State and Attorney General should ask the County Clerks to examine the initiatives for evidence of

a) a fold below the level where the title and description of the initiative
b) a nick, notch or crimp on either edge of the initiative that might indicate a rubber band.
c) In addition, there may be actual residue of a rubber band on the top petition submitted. This would be the only LEGAL petition.

If the above are found a survey of signatories should occur to see if they were told to sign four “copies” of an initiative, or if they were otherwise accorded an opportunity to read an accessible title and description of an initiative.

shit! i owe y’all and Jane an apology. If I’d seen that TRex actually said he was leaving, I would not have posted that here. I thought it was a second site, like PW has.

It was not my place to announce it, but I ran across it in my news-ninjaing. My heartfelt apologies also to Teddy. I did NOT and DO NOT intend to hijack the thread.

SpSo pelease let’s talk instead about Rachel Maddow or the repub candidates.

I do believe they’ll get their duckies in a row for the next batches of filings, in the meantime they’re SOL for those mortgages… 8-)

So the homeowners are free and clear? No mortgage paymentos?

Those particular individuals are from Duestche Bank, but, I’m not sure if the original mortgagees can pursue it. However, it forces the Banks/Financiers to make sure they have clear titles for each and every attempt at foreclosure, which will be highly problematic since they sliced and diced the titles across numerous holders of that debt, i.e. bundles… Pass the popcorn…

Here we go again…

Liquidity and Credit Crunch in Financial Markets is Back to Summer Peaks, Only Much Worse and More Dangerous

Last August the soft-landing consensus claimed that the episode of financial turmoil would be temporary (like previous ones in 2004, 2005, 2006) and that Fed easing would restore calm to the financial markets and prevent an economic hard landing.

If the foo shits…

These bearish forecasts have indeed proven right as financial conditions are now worse than in the summer and as the likelihood of a generalized credit crunch, a US recession and the spillover of such a hard landing to the rest of the world are increasing by the day (see Larry Summers on the FT today for another prominent scholar now suggesting that a US recession is very likely).

Where are those Brooks Brothers protesters when we need them?

Since the summer both liquidity and credit problems have worsened. We now know that the losses related to mortgage and their securitized products (RMBSs, CDOs) will be in the hundreds of billion dollars range ($300 to 500 billion) and that such losses are spreading from subprime to near prime and prime mortgages. These losses do not include those deriving from the coming meltdown of the commercial real estate lending where the issuance of new CMBSs has altogether dried up and where the CMBX indices signal extreme levels of expected defaults.

CTuttle @ 224
Thanks to Shrub’s deregulating the financial markets, we’re in for some rough times ahead…

The seizure of liquidity and credit has spread to the most remote corners of the financial system: subprime, nearprime and prime mortgages, commercial real estate, consumer loans, securitized products, derivatives markets, leveraged loans, LBO market (where increasing numbers of deals are postponed, restructured or cancelled), SIVs and conduits, interbank markets, derivative markets, covered bonds markets, CDOs and CLOs; CPDOs; even the IPO market; and the list goes on and on and becomes longer by the day.

Quick get a hanky…

“When the United States sneezes the rest of the world gets the cold. And since the United States will not just sneeze, but is risking a serious case of protracted and severe pneumonia, the rest of the world should start to worry about a serious viral contagion.”
