It is amusing to note the denial and ignorance from the Left–who are the true fringe.

Really now! I though that no one would have said “increased” to this. Even immigration advocates want those undocumented individuals given the opportunity to become “legal”. So they want those numbers “reduced”, also.

“Do you favor or oppose the death penalty for persons convicted of murder?”

Many people who oppose the current death penalty, which is used for teenagers, or acts of passion, don’t oppose it under SOME circumstances…for example serial or mass murderers.

“As you may know, the federal income tax cuts passed into law since George W. Bush became president are set to expire within the next several years. Would you favor or oppose making those tax cuts permanent?”–CNN Poll

The question doesn’t distinguish which tax cuts are being referred to.

“Now thinking about taxes: Do you consider the amount of federal income tax you have to pay as too high, about right, or too low?”

But if you asked if the taxes are too low for the wealthy they’d say YES. Except the wealthy that is.

And if they were asked if they had to pay “as they go” for various services (and given the prices for those services) they’d change their answer.

“The Supreme Court also recently upheld a federal restriction on the procedure known as partial birth abortion, banning the procedure except when a woman’s life is at risk. Do you approve or disapprove of this decision?”

First there is no such thing as “partial birth abortion” (and that term isn’t used in the law). The question implied that this was a medical decision made by her doctor…as in all previous cases of this type of late-term abortion. The new restrictions took such decisions out of the hands of the doctors and made them subject to criminal charges if they did make this decision.

I’d also point out that many of your “surveys” are decades old. The questions about the Star Wars were clearly done back in the Reagan era since says “recently there has been talk of building a system…”
That was the state of things back in the 1980’s…BEFORE the repeated billion funding and failures of the tests to try to create a viable and successful system that could work against an opponents ICBM’s that used simple evasive methods.

Unsolicited by me (I was on strict orders from Mrs. Knut not to discuss any potentially irritating topics of conversation) both of them began to light into the Bush administration for destroying our civil liberties. Granted, they are educated, but not over-educated like so many of us here. But they understood the social security scam that the thugs tried to pull off, they understood the WMD scam, and they understood, without my prompting, the FISA scam. And they understood what Paul Krugman has been writing about in his last book. That the Democrats are good for ordinary people.

They are leaders in their ommunity. I think that if they are representative of that community, we are on a roll. Let’s hope our representatives understand that, and make the most of it. So much can go wrong, and yet, hope is all we have.

Tonight, after a fabulous turkey dinner followed by a nice visit with my grandmother, we watched the inexcusably stupid Deck the Halls, after which my Mom switched on Fox News.

“Rrrrrrrnnnh!” says I. “I don’t watch Fox News.”

( she knows this, as i mention it every time i visit and see fox news on their tv )

“Okay,” she says, leaving the TV tuned to a FNC anchortwit bleating some sort of sensationalistic crap.

So I pack up my laptop and the Xmas CDs I’m re-ripping and head upstairs, after letting fly with “Fox News is not news, it’s conservative propaganda.”
