I have a friend who went there. She was one of their first “diversity” admissions (female) and had a full ride scholarship. Generally regards it as a good experience and a great education, but has some interesting things to say about the upper class twits (my term, hers is much less socially acceptable) who made up most of her classmates.

* 12 percent of us are international students
* 50 percent from public schools, 50 percent from private, parochial, military, home or foreign schools

As I said, she was one of their very first diversity admissions (more than 30 years ago). At that time there were only a handful of women, no ethnic minorities, and a handful of other public school boys. Sounds like they have come a long way in the interval.

Only reason I asked is lack of info about when Exeter went co-ed. Things were gawd-awful for women in a lot of places in the ’60s thru mid ’70s at least. Some of it was insidious and hard to call. Easy to imagine how tough it might have been with preppie twits who felt their space invaded by lesser mortals.

It was announced over the PA in my 6th grade class. Everyone was silent.
