It’s a slow news day, and I was cruising around for a closer — something appropriate to send everybody into Thanksgiving with — and I ran across this list of the “Top 10 Most Bitter Female Rock Songs.” I mean, inquiring minds want to know, right? Imagine my delight when our own Donita Sparks made #3 with Shitlist! It was a gift. (Though I do have to say…what, no Joan Jett?)
Then I looked at the video, and realized I’m in it (if only for a few fractional seconds).
For those who showed up today looking for a dose of political correctness…there may be a bit of a wait.

“Hello, this is a really interesting blog, I’m glad I stumbled upon it. I understand where you’re coming from but I really think you should check into Hillary Clinton. She’s got some really good ideas, which she will sell to you for a dollar.”
Dont make me open my can of PJ Harvey on you.

That story is bullshit, BTW.
I think it was Thers who said earlier in the day — anyone who could afford to fund that operation would not be on “blogspot.”
Honest to Jebus, if you go to the Bloggin’ Fer Dollars site, that is honestly what they suggest as a good post. I wonder who’s really behind it? I mean, there’s a real link and everything, but I can’t imagine that Hillary’s people are actually suggesting something so dumb.
Jane..Long hair, leather bra???
Thank you Jane at 4!
Good evening Jane. Happy Thanksgiving all.

Would very much be on my list.
TexBetsy @ 8
Happy Thanksgiving, Betsy.
jane,
please accept my best wishes for a happy and healthy, comfortable and comforting thanksgiving for you and your loved ones.

Some guy who hates Hillary Clinton?
This is a repost of my Thanksgiving wishes for everyone.
Click on the top link, the Flashback Boys. You will love it!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Loo Hoo.. a little dated but a Hillary link
I wonder if Romney would give me a dollar. He’s got lots of dollars. Let’s try it…Hello! This is a really interesting blog, I’m glad I stumbled upon it. I understand where you’re coming from but I really think you should check into Willard “Ball-Glove” Romney.

Karl Rove trying (and succeeding) in tricking people again? Obama’s not the only sucker around, I suppose.
I hope Hillary has Donita play Shitlist at her inaugeration.
happy TG to you Jane!
and, thanks for the wonderful trip we’ve had on FDL. really. you make all the difference in the world for us folks and our hope of keeping the democracy.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.
I am going to replay shit list frequently, real loud.
The secret to a really delicious turkey is to put a few slices of bacon across it for the last hour or so of cooking time.
The secret ingredient for everything else is a stick of butter.
Thanks Jane — for all you do… And for who you are!
You mean the world to us!!!
Just sayin…

The money/blog idea just wouldn’t work for Romney. What nice could be said about him? ;)
Happy Thanksgiving Jane, the fabulous poodles and everyone else.

Happy Thanksgiving fearless leaders, moderators, front pagers and firepups here, there and everywhere!
I love Think Progress, but I hate that they don’t ever put what time the post goes up. john Gibson of Fox News says:
“I’m the guy who said a long, long time ago that whoever outed Valerie Plame should get a medal,” Gibson said. “And if it was Karl Rove, I’d pin it on him myself.”
Happy thanksgiving everyone. Happy turkey day, Jane — hope you and the pooches have a good one.
I’ve got the cranberry salad made and the stuffing put together and ready to pop in the oven, and bread rising in the pans. And I’m tired already…is it time for pie?
Well I’m not in this one, and I’m not sure if it falls into the bitter female rock song category, however it does have Debbie Harry, clowns, a tiger, a dancing midget and a very surreal motiff
Good Boys
X-Ray spex. Definitely.

Norman Rockwell and “lost innocence”.
Sick bastard. (Who? Not sayin’).
Before she left (she’ll be back in a couple of hours), my lady said wanted me to wish you all a merry Thanksgiving and a Happy Christmas. Or was that the the other way ’round? I don’t know. I’m lost without Lahoma.
I couldn’t find a YouTube but Etta James’ Wet Match could probably go on this list:

Sorry, I misspoke … sort of … luckily, I found the … er, money quote (sorry punaise *g*) –
Politico chief political columnist Roger Simon declared former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney the winner of the June 5 Republican presidential debate and attributed Romney’s victory, in part, to the fact that he is “[s]trong, clear, gives good soundbite, and has shoulders you could land a 737 on.”
He also said earlier of Romney, “… has chiseled-out-of-granite features, a full, dark head of hair going a distinguished gray at the temples, and a barrel chest,” … adding … ” … up close he is almost overpowering. He radiates vigor.” Link
Do you like pecan pie at Thanksgiving? We sure do. We like it all the time.

Preparing for tomorrow’s feast at my home. I’m cheating. Potatoes are peeled and ready to go, salad’s partially made and in a giant baggie, fruit salad’s made, serving dishes are set out, chestnuts x’ed and ready for roasting. I’m sure I’m forgetting something but as far as I can tell, everything I can do ahead is done. Ready for a glass of wine and FDL.
Happy Thanksgiving Christy and Jane. I am thankful for FDL!!
Christy, I would love your recipe for cinnamon rolls sometime when time permits.
Elastica’s “Stutter” deserves a mention. A very catchy little evil tune.

Ya’ll take care tomorrow.
Loo Hoo at 60 — Here you go — I add chopped pecans, too. It’s easy, yummy, and the best breakfast ever on Christmas morning. And Mr. ReddHedd never notices if I use the frozen ones instead of making them from scratch, so I pretty much always cut myself a break. *g*
Just pulled some chestnuts out the oven and am enjoying them with a glass of Sangiovese with the Talking Heads on.
What a relaxing evening.
Thers @ 61
That was gonna be my next one…yer psychic, Thers…
Delurking once again to say I’m thankful for everyone here… the intelligence, patience, diligence. The gifts you give to all of us each day.
Oh. Yes. And The snark.
I wish everyone of you good health, laughter…&things that make your heart sing.
Mahalo, Jane for inviting us in.
I am also incredibly thankful for FDL!
Please recall there will many children who will get no Thanksgiving meal tomorrow. Won’t you please remember them on Christmas eve.
That was gonna be my next one…yer psychic, Thers…
Hee hee.
I always thought that was kind of the epitome of a feminist punk attitude — hit ‘em where it hurts, you know? The “is there something I can do for you” line is perfect.
Joyous Thanksgiving, to everyone.
Jane & Christy, Scarecrow and Teddy, TRex, Phoenix Woman, Siun, Eli, and all frontliners.
Also, I wish to all of my fellow commenters a great meal tomorrow that lasts a coupla days.
(I have to admit, I cut the cherry pie a coupla minutes ago.)
Wishing everyone much joy, peace of mind and heart, and hope this Thanksgiving.
EgrSon en route as we speak. Happy mom.
Let’s walk the talk this year. Remember the kids. Merry Christmas.
TexBetsy @ 68
Same here. Can’t say it often enough. I would not have survived the Bush years without FDL.
Oh. Shitlist. Damn, I needed that one, ‘cuz I’ve definitely got someone to add to the roster.
Happy T-Day, gang; I’ll be thinking of you when I give thanks tomorrow.
And I’ll be giving thanks for a dearth of political correctness here in the ‘hood.
Jane, you have a very silly email on its way.
demi @ 71
I echo what demi said and to all my American friends at FDL … Happy Thanksgiving !
… pass the pie, Hon … *g*
P:
Whipped cream or ice cream?
Thanks for the recipe, Christy!
I was telling my wife how grateful I am for FDL. That’s no bullshit. I tried the HuffPo bit for two years, and have become burned out by the ever-circling trolls who now infest the site in greater numbers than progressives. I tried the Daily Kos, but their agenda is so pro democrat, there is no wiggle room.
This is wonderful site. Thank you!

Don’t ask for a slice when you can ask for the whole pie. *g
Let’s hope that this time next year we will have something wonderful to be thankful for. I’m hoping it’s President Edwards or Dodd. With Obama as the veep.

sikovit @ 80
This site is wonderful because it’s conversational. No other site that I’ve found duplicates this. There are many great sites (and I visit them all). But this is home.
demi @ 78
Fixed it for you.
I have got some very bad news for the Hillary Blogger$ for Money. The dollar payment for a two sentence statement of support at a blog, has been put on hold.
There is some nonsense about the lawyers worrying about those silly FEC rules. But we can still blog for Hillary for free. I love Hillary, she listens and she is as sexy as Judy Giuliani. She only goes to war for Oil and she supports Drivers Licenses for everyone. Her great experience with K-Street Lobbyists is a wonder to behold. Vote K-Street, Vote Hillary!
I am thankful I am not related to Faux Noise’s John “No Brains” Gibson:Link
In his “My Word” segment this afternoon, Fox News pundit John Gibson applauded the White House’s decision to blow the identity of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame. “I’m the guy who said a long, long time ago that whoever outed Valerie Plame should get a medal,” Gibson said. “And if it was Karl Rove, I’d pin it on him myself.” Gibson argued the outing of Plame was justified because “this was about an anti-Bush cabal at the CIA” that needed to be “rooted out.”
The Dweeb.

It’s still Astroturf, though, ain’t it?
I realize some may accuse me of being ahead of my time when I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. But what can I say, Lahoma tells I’m a ‘progressive’.
Dollar a post? Shit man- goopers pay SERIOUS fuckin money.
If I had to pay $1 for every comment I made on FDL, YIKES!!!
Frank33 @ 92
What a shame! I pulled out my copy of Autumn of the Patriarch for inspiration, and was up to word 237 of sentence one when the news came through. I hadn’t even gotten to the verb yet.

Jane said upthread that this is bogus. The Hillary camp wouldn’t put out something like this first, and check with their lawyers later. NGH. (not gonna happen!)

The problem with growing up is that you’re not supposed to enjoy the things you instinctively knew were great when you were a kid — such as: getting turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls and butter in your mouth all at once.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
Annie Lennox
Yes. It was a long time ago…
Hey scarecrow! I keep sleeping through your morning threads.
Loo Hoo. @ 106
Not to mention that if HRC did something like this, it would be more subtle …
Compare the Bush children’s holidays to those of the kids in the barrios and those who live on the ‘rez’ and those children living on the streets of Iraq who have no mama and papa anymore.
Jane Hamsher @ 108
She topped herself…It got too hard to live for her, unlike some others.
any techies out there who can help me troubleshoot a problem with a scanner/copier/printer a friend dropped off? it doesn’t work with his new vista machine but i am hoping to get it running with my xp.
My problem is quite simple. I cannot separate the social from the political.

Well it would have to be someone who is really rich and stupid.
Paul Supporter Pays $85,000 for Full Page Ad
BTW…isn’t this pretty much a major violation of the Campaign Contribution limits? Of course, the guy is a libertarian and doesn’t feel constrained by such “rules”…but does the campaign get hit…or can the millionaire be prosecuted? Can the newspaper who publishes it knowing full well that it’s a violation if that much money comes from an individual?
I’m thinking about male enhancement Bush nuts.

U.S. aircraft carrier denied access to Hong Kong (Reuters)
from Yahoo! News
– China has unexpectedly denied the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier and its accompanying ships entry to Hong Kong port for a long-planned Thanksgiving holiday visit, the U.S. State Department said on Wednesday.
Went to the store last night and there was a great Paul magnetic sign on a car parked right at the entrance. Now THERE’S some organization..just keep movin the car!!
Nodding vigorously, agreeing with all those who said we’re grateful for FDL.
I’m seriously dependent on this site to get me through these times. I learn something every day (every post!) that I didn’t know before. Thanks, Jane and Christy and TRex – and everyone else who monitors and writes front-page posts and generally keeps the Lake running in top form.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Great Birds to all of you.

IF you have the installation disks, it probably has the appropriate drivers for XP. And you can most likely go to the manufacturers web site and download the driver’s for Vista (assuming you have the serial numbers/install keys and such)
Of course, I may be an id10t.
dakine01 @ 101
Ah, please excuse. Looks like there was indeed a $1/post plan, suspended at least for the moment, but the source is a strange independent blog, not the HRC campaign itself.
Not sure that means the $1/post plan isn’t Astroturf (i.e. artificial grassroots), though.
Looking over my record connection, found this, one of my all-time favorite albums

Lahoma and I challenge everyone to enlighten us as to what they are doing to make the holidays a tiny bit brighter for the kids from needy families.

I work for county govt. The Social Services Office gives each department a family. Mom, dad and kids. Each family member is thought of.
Within my family of origin, rather than gifting one another, we donate. The Sweetie and I send ours to the Alameda County Community Food Bank, which is more family-oriented, and Project Open Hand which tends to serve predominantly single adults. I would recommend both organizations.
Recently, my father was in the hospital (he’s home and fine now — thanks for asking). His roommate’s family came in to visit: wife, thirtyish son and twentyish daughter. I couldn’t help hearing, through the curtain dividing that family from me and my dad, the daughter describing a date she had had earlier in the week. It sounded like she had a great time.
At this point in her story, a cell phone started going off, with the ringtone from #5 on the 10 Most Bitter Female Rock Songs (see the link at the top).
It was her phone.
I did a huge spit take, imagining what would have happened if it had rung *during* that fun date.
(guy looks at watch) Uh, I’ve got to go now . . . I’ll call you later . . .

My family also donates, and everyone brings the name and description of a charity, then we choose the charity from a hat and all the money is donated there. Kids still get gifts, but we don’t do adult to adult.
OK and Lahoma: My love to you for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ve given up on politics…but not on the rule of law and history and Earth science that is now what we must know…(Al Gore.) Wish you both the best.
Hmmm. @ 127
After some investigatin, I cannot yet be certain, but the VoteFor HillaryOnline site is possibly a spoof, and may be an anti Hillary site. It has no real persons listed. Although it seems
to be pro-Hillary, a closer look appears to be a critical, but unfunny satire.
I cannot believe that people would misrepresent themselves on the internets
Eureka Springs @ 137
Yep, genius album.
Let me also chime in on something else..
.Jane, Christy, Scarecrow, Siun, Thers, Swopa, Phoenix Woman, Tula, looseheadprop, TRex, RGB, Suzanne, Ian….and all I may have missed…

One of my favorite “angry girl” bands was the Au Pairs. They were well ahead of their times and were unafraid to have lyrics dealing with sexuality or politics (or sexuality and politics).

Now I’m going to go brine the turkey.

The best, right back at you. ;0)
Lahoma and me.
Frank33 @ 149
Yes, very odd that there are almost no comments. On the other hand, there are some “what an ignorant liberal you are!”-type comments, which could either mean (a) It’s a real pro-HRC site, (b) The satire is too subtle for their audience, or to put that less kindly, (c) Their audience is actually dumber and more reactionary than even they thought.
I may have to go with (c).

Suzanne @ 167
Uh oh. Please tell me this isn’t a suicide-by-moderator.
Frank33 @ 92
I hate to say this…but after being taken for about a minute by the site it appears to be a “spoof site”. First “no contact” address or names. No “Who We Are” section. If one carefully looks a t the history of the posts they are all about doing outrageous “independent” things that are simply going to piss people off.
I mean, putting Hillary Clinton bumperstickers on other peoples cars! C’mon!
This is someone trying to play Dick Tuck without half the wryness, humor and intelligence. In some ways it’s just mean-spirited, and if there is any affiliation with another campaign…yikes!
mhpcr @ 169
I’m guessing some manner of stepladder was involved?
TRex @ 166
It’s a GOP plot, TRex. They’re trying to get you fired, or poison you, or some such thing.
Be strong, and pretend that they were sent by La Malkin. Do Not Go There.

My dog won tickets to see Lollapalooza here in the city. She composed a limerick that she faxed over to a radio station that included lollaplooza in the rhyme scheme. Much hilarity in the office, because I was out with her when the station called and wanted her to read the entry on the air. And the DJ tossed to the next shift, saying that she given the tickets “to a dog!”
In any case, I’d never heard of elastica, but they were there on one of the side stages, and I fell in love.
It’s too bad that it was only one album’s worth of love, but that’s the business.
I still have my Vaseline tshirt.
BUT
On a more important topic, thanks, Jane for slapping down that stupid Hillary blog promotion sockpuppet thing. I think we’re gonna see a lot of that; there’s one over at Joe Klein’s swampland haunt.
So, please, when you see someone in comments somewhere or advertising an absolutely stupid blogospheric idea and attributing it to Clinton (for now) or the nominee, think twice.
cinnamonape @ 157
Yeah. Because the band begins with the letter A, it made its way onto digital offa vinyl. That project is still incomplete, but I got that far. Weird cover, with ambiguous hair.
