At a private breakfast fundraiser in Manhattan this morning, Rep. Rahm Emanuel told supporters he believes former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who has been gaining ground in Iowa polls, would be a smart vice presidential choice for either Mitt Romney or Rudy Giuliani, according to one attendee.
The selection of the man Chuck Norris calls an “authentic conservative” in Huckabee’s first campaign ad would make sense for either of the two former blue state executives, who has been trying desperately to convince the left that they’ve recognized the error of their old liberal ways.
Or maybe this is one of those reverse psychology moments in which Emanuel is trying to tie an ideologue to the GOP ticket because he thinks it would utlimately help the Democrats in the general election.
Rahm’s reasoning appears sound, but I think he’s being entirely too modest. In fact, the perfect running mate for the GOP nominee is… himself. He’s pro-corporate, tough on immigration, flexible on choice, ambivalent on oversight, okay with the war, and perhaps most importantly of all, he hates us Dirty Fucking Hippies just as much as any Republican, and probably more.
Consider: Who better than Rahm to deliver the all-important Imaginary Moderate vote? You know, all those salt-of-the-earth ordinary Americans who believe that George W. Bush should decide when we get out of Iraq, and that the government is way too tough on big business. These reasonable pragmatists understand that war is not something to be exited lightly, that huge corporate profits benefit everyone, er… somehow, and that regulating pollutants and toy safety and food additives just inhibits the course of human evolution. If we simply let natural selection do its thing, then eventually we’ll be immune to everything, just like cockroaches and Karl Rove, and who wouldn’t want that?
Admittedly, if Romney is the nominee, it could get a little awkward. "Romney-Emanuel" is confusing and "Romney-Rahm" is even worse, but I’m sure they’ll work something out. Unity ’08, bitches!
(If anyone needs me, I’ll be over here, trying to decide which party’s leadership best reflects my values. I’ve narrowed it down to the Neo Rhino Party, the Church of the Militant Elvis Party, and the Official Monster Raving Loony Party.)

Ack!
nope!
Alrighty then…
Eli!
(Dang, 3 in 2 days!)
Ehrm, what I meant to say was:
Hail, Muse Eli!
Those Below have been notified.
Emanuel simply playing insider baseball. Both Romney and Giuliani would have problems getting out the right-wing Christianist vote. Huckabee might help there. There’s nothing else to spin here.
FDL is sure to get Emanuel’s scalp… and Lantos’s… just like they got Lieberm… oh, wait a minute…
While Eli’s gone, I’ll just post this comment to see if I made my fdl facebook “f” go away.
Hmmm. @ 1
Congrats, I denied ya last thread…
Could Rahm be learning a Repub tactic; the concern troll expression of advice to the other party?
ROFLMAO Unity ‘08, bitches!
Hiya, CTut! Hiya, Hmmm!
tejanarusa @ 9
I dunno; I think Rahm only ratfucks progressives.
greenwarrior @ 7
Yes, excellent. It’s gone. Now, does anyone know how I take myself outta there instead of just going inactive? I’d rather be out of their bed completely than just laying there not responding.
greenwarrior @ 7
Just don’t log in. Go straight to comments.
greenwarrior @ 13
Um, we’re still talking about Facebook, right?
CTuttle @ 8
It’s a fair cop. And thanks!
Hey Eli
l’ll go with the Church of the Militant Elvis.
I don’t think Rahm is smart enough to concern-troll for the GOP.
Look on the bright side: he isn’t suggesting a fusion ticket with Lieberdweeb.
Hi Eli,
I confess I love to hate Rahm
They sure a nosy bunch of mofos, aren’t they?
Waving!! Hi….Love Bush and Cheney.
Eli @ 12
Apparently, and his own ken(Immigrants)…
Eli, I don’t think you’re giving Rahm enough credit.
*donning my favorite tin foil hat*
Perhaps Rahm is expecting Huckabee to get the nomination, no doubt propelled to victory by Rahm’s odd-sounding endorsement. The overwhelmingly grateful GOP candidate will then turn to Rahm and say, “OK, who’s your *next* suggestion for VP?”
It is at this point that Rahm, smiling secretly to himself and thinking kindly of Dick Cheney for setting a certain precedent, says “How about me?”
Millineryman @ 17
I have to admit that the Army Of Clowns intrigues me. And it has an added benefit if we ever have a disagreement with a head of states who’s afraid of them – he’d do anything we asked without us having to fire a single shot.
I really like Bush. He’s the man. I really like his policies.
USA, USA….Support the troops!! Yay.
I just love Michelle Malkin too. She’s cute. She’s smart. :)
Peterr @ 22
You know full well that if Huckabee wins the nomination, Chuck Norris is the only possible choice for veep.
LS @ 25
I just stumbled into the Twilight Zone…
newtonusr @ 27
I like Ann Coulter. She’s the best! :)
greenwarrior @ 7
Victory!
from Unit 08 today:
LS @ 28
who ARE you and what did you do to our LS?
TRex: I’m epu’ing but one of the big pushers of the McCarthy rehab movement is your fav from town maul. I don’t want to drive a lot of traffic to her but google “joseph mccarthy town hall”.
Apparently he saved us from the commies after all.
Anyways, I thought you might have fun with it some night.
Back on topic. I can’t stand Rahm guy but if all the Dems would start chanting “Why would you believe them when everything has been lies” it would be a good start.
Eli @ 26
I know this, and you know this — but has anyone told Rahm? He’ll be crushed.
tw3k @ 30
Oh, Jebus – PLEASE tell me you’re kidding. These are the lamest, sorriest mofos on the face of the earth.
LS @ 28
Ya need to get your ‘f’ back, it seems your sanity has left with it…
LS @ 28
To borrow from peanutbutter…

BLINK BLINK
It’s a RahmMittzvah!
Peterr @ 33
Chuck Norris will tell Rahm. And you only *think* you’re being metaphorical.
LS @ 25
Has anyone watched Amazon’s video for the “Kindle” e-reader? In their listing of downloadable website examples, along with the NYTimes they list — Michelle Malkin.
Along with “serious”, the word “smart” has been rendered meaningless by the Beltway elite. It has been used to describe Andrew Sullivan, David Brooks and Jonah Goldberg. So, I can’t find anything objectionable in Rahm Emanuel’s idiocy. In fact, it would even be appropriate to say that Rahm is smart.
Eli @ 15
yes, how do i take myself outta FACEBOOK? if anyone knows, please share.
:P I’m in!
LS @ 20
You’ll get yours, big guyz!! `~)
Hi Eli. Do you think there’s any real chance of taking Rahm’s seat?
Eli @ 34
To make it even worse it came in after a lucid e-mail with talking point from the ACLU!
greenwarrior @ 41
Log in to FDL account and strip the FB ID code.
CTuttle @ 35

LS @ 25
And a CHEERLEADER! (without any real working at it)
tejanarusa @ 39
And Charlie Rose had an infomercial on the Kindle last night.
realworld @ 32
TRex?
Loo Hoo. @ 43
That’s really more of a Howie question, but I’m guessing that he has some serious muscle behind him, and constituents that probably like having a bigshot for their representative.
On the other hand, it would be interesting to see what a strong progressive challenger could do with enough funding to get the word out not only on what Rahm has done personally to obstruct progress in the House, but what all of his *minions* have done to obstruct progress in the House.
I think that would be the key, that he’s flat-out corrupting and sabotaging the Democratic party.
Meanwhile Bush plays God with Grandpa Charlie [no, I will not link] pushing Hillary while Heh, heh, heh-ing his way out of touting a Rethug.
If I were a Dem campaign I’d put up rogues’ gallery pictures of Bush, Chee-knee, Rove, Libby, Card with the cutline:
Do you really want these guys picking your Democratic nominee for you?
Eli @ 38
I like to think I was grooving you a fast ball right down the middle, myself. Glad to see you knock it out of the park.
greenwarrior @ 41
It’s pretty much just stop using it AFAICT
newtonusr @ 45

U-Rahm-Rahm! Go Team, Go!
Peterr @ 52
Chuck Norris has two speeds: Baby-kissing, and Kill.
What the fuck is it with that guy. I swear, I’m starting to lose heart
David Broder, of course!
newtonusr @ 45
thanks, newtonusr. i already did that here at fdl. what i’m wanting to know now is how do i get out of facebook at the facebook website, rather than just being made inactive. any ideas?
Prairie Sunshine @ 51
Say what? Got link?
Phoenix Woman @ 58
He might be a little too old for combat. I see him in more of the Consigliere/Grima Wormtongue role.
I know the first person’s advice I look for when choosing a political leader is Chuck Norris. There’s something about a D list movie star that has wisdom and insight written all over it.
greenwarrior @ 59
Just go to your page. There is an opt out.

Advertorial cover story for Newsweak….

None at all. But Suzanne seems to have a good grip on there things. Wait up a bit.
that was one bizarro commercial with Norris and Huckabee
Elliott @ 31
What is an LS??…I work for the State Department, and I support the troops. I don’t understand. Meep Beep.
And don’t forget Rahm was a triangulating Clintonista from the get!
I can’t afford four more years of ‘pugs or corporate Democrats.
cosgrove @ 57
Don’t do that. Work around the dude, as always.
Millineryman @ 62
Did you check out the commercial? I like how it unintentionally(?) equates the humorously outlandish statements about Chuck Norris with the supposedly truthful ones about Mike Huckabee.
In other words, “Mike Huckabee is an authentic conservative” = “Chuck Norris doesn’t do pushups, he pushes the earth down”
Millineryman @ 62
Apparently the rest of America knows who Chuck Morris is. I haven’t a clue.
LS @ 67
her worst fears confirmed! How did they get past her tinfoil hat I wonder
Loo Hoo. @ 60
It was on ABC Nightly News. You can go to their website. I refuse to link.
Loo Hoo. @ 71
Didn’t you ever see Dodgeball???
Millineryman @ 62
How has Norris gone so wrong from when he worked with Bruce Lee?
Is Rahm the new Rove?
Eli @ 50
I’m not Howie, but Rahm’s seat is safe for this year. The filing deadline for the primary has passed, and no one has filed to challenge him. This being Chicago, the GOP opponent is meaningless — Rahm will be back in DC in 2009.
But if Rahm’s chosen candidates get beaten in primaries by progressives, Rahm’s influence is going to take a real hit. How humiliating.
If Dems who ignore Rahm’s advice end up winning, his influence takes another hit. More humiliations.
If Dems who follow Rahm’s advice end up losing to GOPers, Rahm takes another blow. To borrow from Inigo Montoya, we’re talking humiliations galore.
With a lot of progressive elbow grease, it’s coming to a House Democratic Caucus Chair near you.
Prairie Sunshine @ 64
lol, yup.
Phoenix Woman @ 69
We need to do what the Repubs do – slam them 365 days a year and if we don’t pick them off this election, we’ll get them in one down the road. Rahm is a twit – let’s tell him we think so.

In ‘pug world, that’s a classic recipe for president. An idiot who can believably deliver their masters’ talking points.
Millineryman @ 62
Well as far as that goes, Huck has also been endorsed by The Nuge and Ric Flair. So not only does he have the D list actor vote but he also gets overrated/under-talented guitar schmuck AND a transvestite wressler.
Pick yer pizen.
Prairie Sunshine @ 51
Does anyone else find that they hear Dubya’s voice in their head whenever they read a quote from him? It happens to me, and it’s very unpleasant, since I try really hard to avoid looking at or listening to the bastard.

I only understand the word aluminium. You use the world tin foil. That would indicate a rather weak sword in my translation. Meep Beep. I love George W. Bush and Richard Bruce Cheney. I want to attack Iran. That is a good thing.
Richmond @ 76
No, because Rove doesn’t usually screw members of his own party.
I’d harbored the slim hope that maybe Rahm, in endorsing the Huckster, was trying some sort of Super-Subtle Rovian Fakeout, but it was pointed out to me that Rahm never screws anyone who isn’t a Democrat.
dakine01 @ 81
Too bad for him that Mike Tyson is otherwise engaged.
Richmond @ 76
Only in the sense that they have a common enemy…
Loo Hoo. @ 71
A bunch of bad karate and/or military movies (Delta Force for one) AND a TV show extolling the glories of kick-ass law enforcement (Walker, Texas Ranger).

Loo Hoo. @ 71
Norris, ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ and numerous Nam movies about freeing POW’s…
Rham needs to go along with Carville etc.But this is Clinton’s gang and they are all cut from the same cloth. The rotting stenching corrupt corporatists of the Dem party.
He is really a piece of work and can not wait till we have the whole bunch of them gone with some true progressives. And yes I am putting the annoited one in there and this is what we will get with that crew in power again.Maybe not as bad as Bush but close in many ways.
Someone challenge his ass please!!
Eli @ 74
No. But the kids at school play it. He does look familiar in a really creepy way, but I just don’t know why. Is he some kinda right wing star?

Unity ‘08, bitches!
Rahm’s been going to a lot of freshmen fundraisers, and he certainly has his hand up all their dresses. Rumor mill says he wants to challenge Pelosi for speaker.
I think Howie would strap himself with grenades.
LS @ 87
These nice folks in the white coats know where there is plenty of aluminum for you, LS. Here, just slip your arms into these sleeves and let the nice gentlemen buckle them in the back for you. In fact, they’re going to take you to see someone special, who can help you . . .
Eli @ 70
Well I wanted to avoid the train wreck however you peaked my interest. At first I thought it was a parody.
All in all I’d rather dance with the B-52’s.
LS, you are making me laugh tonight!

I must to go now. My battery needs refreshment. Nice to meet you. Meep Beep.
Elliott @ 119
Bill Moyers.
From the Dodd site
Chris Dodd today released the following statement in response to the claims of former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan that he “unknowingly passed along false information” to the American public and that “the highest-ranking officials in the administration were involved in [his] doing so,” including the Vice-President and the President:
“Today’s revelations by Mr. McClellan are very disturbing and raise several important questions that need to be answered. If in fact the President of the United of States knowingly instructed his chief spokesman to mislead the American people, there can be no more fundamental betrayal of the public trust.
“During his confirmation process, Attorney General Mukasey said he would act independently. Accordingly, today, I call on the Attorney General to live up to his word and launch an immediate investigation to determine the facts of this case, the extent of any cover up and determine what the President knew and when he knew it.”

But the freshmen need to take a good look at Rahm. A careful look.

Yes, Christy covered it earlier
Ari Emmanuel is advising the WGA to be moderate, go back to work, stop making trouble, and accepting whatever ratf**k deal the AMPTP offers for the sake of “moderation.” He represents his clients in exactly the same way his brother Rahm represents the Democrats.

Christy had a few thoughts on this earlier today.
Rah, Rah.
JoyB @ 114
Just since this morning, as far as I know. Keith Olbermann was covering it tonight. It should bring fun.
Someone should sit Poindexter Mucousey down and show him a video of the humiliation of Alberto Gonzales at his last college appearance and let him know that is how he’ll live out his post Bush days in under 2 years.

New York 19: Saul Dropping Out
In a stunning development, wealthy businessman Andrew Saul (R) is making calls to inform supporters and GOP insiders that he is dropping his candidacy in New York’s 19th District. Saul was widely regarded as a strong Republican recruit to take on freshman Democratic Cong. John Hall (D). Saul’s ability to self-finance and the Republican-tilt of the district made it a top GOP target. But now, his exit from the race leaves Republicans looking for a credible challenger.

Then again, maybe Rahm has a big, fat file on the Wayne Dumond case and they’re itchin’ to blast fax it to every

i admit to not having read the comments yet so I dont know if anyone (petro) has explained this but—
we actually had a real live, coast to coast political party once called ‘The Rhinos.’
we are talking candidates in federal elections and often the Rhino (making outlandish, absurd, even surreal campaign promises) did better than an ‘official’ candidate.
of course they had to make it prohibitively expensive to register to run spelling the end of the (quite) anarchic Rhino party.
It was fun while it lasted (several years).

Hiya Mabel,
See the link at the end of Eli’s post and read the first comment about the Rhino Party.
1980 Canadian Federal Election:
As a sidelight, the Rhinoceros Party lent its humor to the election. The party promised to repeal the law of gravity, build a causeway to Newfoundland, and solve unemployment through nationalizing the marijuana industry. It also opposed a nuclear freeze, arguing that Canada is frozen six months a year anyway, and the condition shouldn’t be permanent. It claimed to be riven by a split between the Lennonists and Marxists–the followers of John Lennon and Groucho Marx.
Eli @ 169

Here’s something that’s hard to understand. The DOW went up a bit today. Why? Because the fed report predicts and economic downturn. Now the great unwashed heathens might think that an economic downturn is bad news- but the smart Wall Street people see that it means that the fed might reduce the fed rate by a quarter of a point- so the market goes up….got it? Me either.
Funny, I have the feeling right about now that a lot of Republicans are acting exactly like they would be if they had reason to know that there weren’t going to be any election in 2008.
It be so it is. So be it so is. Is so it be so is.

The original Canadian Rhino party was hugely entertaining. One year their election platform was that they were going to return to the English system of driving on the left side of the road. Their plan was to phase it in – the first year only the trucks and buses would drive on the left…

Hmmmmm:
But, Thomas Friedman thinks that democrats (and presumably Republicans as well) need none other than Darth Cheney himself slapping a baseball bat into his plam to create the proper aura of intimidation when dealing with those recalcitrant Mulsim types.
Good idea, flatlander.
Tough Italians used to come into the ‘hood with baseball bats, and they intimidated people, who cowered and gave them what they wanted. But now the boys in the ‘hood got Mac 10s, and the tough Italians don’t come around any more. Tough Italians used to come into the barrio, but not anymore, again for reasons of firepower.
Word on the street is that Big Saddam caved to Badass Cheney and all but licked Cheney’s boots: got rid of his WMDs; got rid of his program to develop WMDs; invited in inspectors who’d tell the world he had been bluffing about WMDs and had caved to Cheney. What did he get for his total capitualtion and cooperation? He got his fucking neck stretched, that fucking idiot. But now nobody else will make that mistake. Cheney respects one and only one thing: WMDs and those who can deliver them. God help the American people.

How Facebook Stole Christmas
link
I live, as you may know, to serve.
Leslie, have you spoken to someone in the press?
Exactly what is happening to Republicans now:
Leslie! “V”.
Oh, and I love George W. Bush…yadda, yadda…just in case.
The Mac10 had really bad muzzle climb on full auto..The Italians didn’t have much to worry about.
AZ Matt @ 206
Vertebrates *are* their natural enemies…
Steve-AR @ 208
And the PC-10 keeps freezing up.
*groan* My turn to watch Gibson’s smarmy ‘interview’ with Shrub…
AZ Matt @ 202
Well, shiver me timbers..I wondered where uncle Scorpy went….
BTW…are there other “relatives” in the water??? I’m not going in the water….Agggghhhhhh…..
Eli @ 209
a pity, then, that dems seem to lack them.
Steve-AR @ 203
Talk about marketing blow back, lol. Thing is even if FB implements an opt-out they are still tracking all that data.
I’ve posted this before but it is worth reposting this speech by Valerie Steeves.
WTF? I told ya so about the ‘Surge’?
When I find scorpions in my house, I catch them and politely escort them out…I don’t want the karma of hurting them to come back and get me…Scorpions carry their offspring on their backs…more civilized than some in the government I would suggest. Besides, we live in their habitat …sound familiar?
Loo Hoo. @ 43
One welcome feature of a Clinton II Administration would be Rahm’s probably return to the West Wing.
A girl can dream, can’t she?
Loo Hoo. @ 205
No, since I returned from my trip, I have been sick, working, blah, blah, blah… I mentioned it to some friends, but that was all. it never occurred to me to go to press.
LS @ 207
Yep, me too. Oh, and regards to General Mukasey.
leslie @ 218
And, don’t forget Vice Chancellorette, Palouse.
OT….
Terry Hall, 41, was indicted by a grand jury in the District of Columbia. His companies received more than $20 million in military contracts, but federal prosecutors say he delivered or transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars to at least one Army official to get the business.
A federal prosecutor said at a detention hearing Tuesday in Atlanta that evidence suggests Hall made more than $2.5 million in bribe payments, and that there may be another indictment soon.

This drum beat of corruption needs to keep going so that by 01/20/09 the majority of the American public will be demanding prosecution and prison for thousands of Thugs.
LS @ 219
Vice Chancellorette, Palouse.
How ’bout them apples…
Steve-AR @ 220
Impeach.
LS @ 222
I would settle for conviction of a capital crime and life without parole as the sentence.
Mauimom @ 217
I think that Rahm has endorsed Hillary,
, but it also seems that Hillary had problems with him during Bill Clinton’s presidency. I can’t find any worthwhile links right now. Anyone have some?
Woo Hoo…
Paging Patrick Fitzgerald. Your Services Are Needed in DC.

Bravo to Scotty for coming clean, only years after he already knew that Rove, Libby, Cheney AND Bush all lied to him about national security matters – matters of war, life and death. To sell an ill-conceived invasion of a sovereign country that was by no means connected to 9/11 or an imminent threat to anything other than its own crumbling and inevitable decline.
Don’t you think that this little bit of information would have been more important to divulge when you first knew about it, instead of admitting it in a book that you are profiting off of? What would a patriot who is more interested in serving his or her country think of withholding this information? Don’t you think that Mr. Fitzgerald would have benefited from that information? Wouldn’t the grand jury be interested to know that Rove is involved in passing false information to the White House’s chief spokesperson with the intent to deceive the press corps, Americans and the rest of the world?

Rahm, baby. You look mahvelus, simply mahvelus. Can you feel the love? Can you Feeeeeel it?
greenwarrier,
See the link at the end of Eli’s post and read the first comment about the Rhino Party.

Someone on an earlier thread (Christy I think) said the the odds are that he told Fitz this.
Milo Radulovich Has Died
For those who don’t know who Radulovich is…he was the young University of Minnesota student, and WW2 veteran, who was attacked by Joe McCarthy for being a “Communist”. Yep! The guy who Edmund R. Murrow brought to light to show the human costs of Senator Joe McCarthy’s insane campaign to purge “communists” from America because the were out to destroy Christmas and to impose fluoridation on the world! McCarthy not only libelled Radulovich, but also his whole family, many of his friends, and those who went to his defense. They all made Senator Joe’s list of “Americas enemies” because in his “You are either with me, or you are against me” approach anyone that defended a “Commie” (that he had designated) was themselves a “Commie” (or at least a “Pinko”).
Yep! The same sort of insane efforts that fuel folks like O’Reilly, Coulter (whose hero is…yes…Sen. Joe McCarthy), Malkin, Limbaugh, etc.
LS @ 212
Well, Cousin Nessie, in the Loch Ness.
Mabel’s Wig Shack @ 227
Good numbers!
Seems to me that I remember an election in ?Brazil back in the 50’s or 60’s that, as a protest, the name of a rhinoceros was a write-in candidate. enough people wrote him in and he won the election. Wish I could remember the details.
Fern @ 228
I’d read that, but, read the post, he goes on…
TRex!!!!!!!
Sea scorpions became extinct about 250 million years ago, but they were precursors of modern land-based scorpions. Smaller varieties are common in the fossil record, and evidence suggests that they ventured onto land for brief forays.
where they clearly convinced eve to eat the apple thus killing all the dinosaurs and making sediment gay
cinnamonape @ 229
Wow,I had not heard of Radulovich. He had some potent words.
tw3k @ 235
The other night, KO spoke of McCarthy. He was really a devious person. In fact, He received some medal while in the service – for which he had nominated himself. There were other facts that I have forgotten or misplaced, but that was the one that stuck out in my memory.
What a guy. He’d be right at home in the current rethuglican party.
i’m wrecked. and off to bed. g’nite pups. enjoy!
LOL, Eli
(late to the epu’d party, yet still giggling from your post…)
good work
LS @ 28
Nah….you really, really don’t…But…
I love the B-52s! They fukin’ rocked!
For some reason Huckabee’s latest endorsements have me singing, “Third rate romance, low rent randevous(sp?)……”
If I’ve said it once, I have said it a thousand times: Rahm Emanuel does more damage to the progressive cause from WITHIN our party than any Republican can hope to.
Emanuel kills progressive legislation in the womb and he waters down any that might trickle out. He’s also scared shitless about the GOP machine and runs around trying to be too centrist by half (like Mark Penn) and ends up losing more than he wins. Yes, the DCCC won big in 2008, but we won IN SPITE of Rahm. Plus, he succeeded in knocking off many a progressive primary challenger along the way.
If we follow this punk down the anti-immigrant path, we will fuck-up the potential for generations of winning the burgeoning latino vote of at least a potential 3-1. The latino vote, because the GOP has made such a enemy of them, is like a ripened, low-lying peach just ready to be picked. And it would be easy, as long as we neuter guys like Rahm Emanuel and his me-tooism on everything GOP.
