The only good thing about a Clinton administration is that Rahm would probably go back to the White House and we could get a real Democrat in the Congressional seat he now occupies.

BTW, if corporations aren’t people, then why do we tax them?

it’s the price of limited liability.

~sigh~ It seems clear to me that a ‘human right’ would be a ‘living’ wage. Biblically speaking…(the Workman is worthy of his hire..) But isn’t that at the heart of the problem? They sent our jobs and corporations to mexico and they still keep coming??? They said they went there to alieviate porvety…what a joke. I think they really meant, we sent the jobs there to screw you Americans who think you have a voice …..!!
Seems to me the choices in America are getting kinda narrow….

selise @ 48

this morning the topic of the meat packing industry taking advantage of undocumented workers came up… just for fun, i took a look at political donations by party for livestock industry (which i think includes meat packing).

from open secrets:

year % to Dems / % to Repubs

2008* 45% / 55%
2006* 32% / 68%
2004* 22% / 78%

ahah i thought, major shifts are happening… no wonder dems don’t want to piss off the employers.

but then i looked at other industries and frequently saw the same thing. it’s not just employers of undocumented workers, corporate america seems to be switching parties.

They realize it isn’t just about grabbing power, it’s about governing well. Dems have shown for a long time they can govern well.

BTW, if corporations aren’t people, then why do we tax them?

Why don’t we just tax the people who receive pay, interest, income, etc. from them?

LindaR @ 40

What if we stopped calling it illegal immigration or any kind of immigration. What if we started calling it what it is: Slave running. Or slave-wage running, if the first is too harsh on some delicate ears.

“Immigration” conjures blame on the immigrant. “Slave running” brings the corporate man out from behind the curtain.

Like most black market activities it only remains so long as it’s illegal.

Legalize drugs and offer help to those who suffer.

Legalize border crossing and ensure the border is safe from criminals and nukes crossing.

Make sure emigrants speak English enough to get by and give them IDs if they don’t already have them.

Remove the illegality and a lot of crap goes away.

I feel it’s important to point out that Bill Richardson was the House whip who pushed NAFTA through when neither of his fellow whips, Bonior and Gephart would touch it. Richardson began his political career as an aide to Hank Kissinger in the Nixon Whitehouse. He was executive director of Kissinger/ McClarty Associates when he ran for Gov. in 2002. His mother is from the top 1% of Mexican wealth. I didn’t actually know that Emmanuel, with all his faults, was involved with NAFTA. Richardson’s never said he was sorry for NAFTA or really anything about it being that bad. Pretty amazing, huh ?

I’m confused! FDL opposes Nafta, yet their support for illegal immigration assists those forces who were behind Nafta, such as… the Mexican government.

In fact, FDL’s position on “reform” is the same as… the Mexican government’s.

Plus, FDL has a brand shiny new indirect link to… the Mexican government.

Gosh, I’m starting to notice a trend.

Loo Hoo. @ 60

John Dean on the brothers Krongard. He’s curious about what Buzzy told his brother. Cookie doesn’t want further investigation, which he would if he were behaving properly.

The conflicting testimony only serves to call for further investigation.

This is part of a larger investigation…Waxman will do it thoroughly.

Something seriously off about this interaction — and Cookie in general. (won’t even start on Buzzy) Cookie should be up to his neck investigating misplaced cash instead of posing by palm trees in immaculate khakis.

Learning that Emmanuel is a ‘former’ investment banker explains much. There’s something about people who center their lives around money; they risk seeing the world in dollars and cents only, and stop seeing its actual intrinsic value.
