I’m thrilled to read this post about Gretchen Clearwater. Baron Hill deserves to be booted out by anyone who calls himself or herself a Democrat. If I have to choose between voting for him or Mike Sodrel next time around, I won’t cast a vote for that office.

As a former graduate student in the Department of Biology at IU, I would like to say that Gretchen is as hard working, dedicated, knowledgeable, and friendly as anyone in that world-class department. Thank’s for smoothing out the bumps in the road for me, Gretchen, and best of luck!

Gretchen,

A lot of politics is like high school crap. Ditch the briefcase, try to look as much as you comfortably can like someone people will understand and then speak directly instead of in response to others.

Don’t say, “Others may say …, but I say.”

Instead say, “I believe …” or “I will …”

If you’re going to lead, then just lead, don’t respond to opponents.

If you’re going to communicate with people who aren’t already on your page, then don’t challenge them to understand you personally. Listen to what interests them and speak from your heart what you’d like to do about it. They’ll hear your message(s) and vote for you to represent their views and needs in Congress.

In summary, look good, speak clearly and speak affirmatively from the heart to their needs and interests.

People don’t have a lot of time to parse your looks, your words or anything. It has to be simple and direct and honest.

Hi Gretchen,

As president of Democrats.com, I’m thrilled to hear you call for an impeachment investigation :))

Right now my first question for every Democrat who wants my support is: will you pledge to vote against any additional funds for the occupation of Iraq, except what is absolutely required to bring all our troops home?

I’m no longer satisfied with vague statements from candidates like “let’s bring our troops home.” After 5 years of Iraq lies, words mean nothing - it’s only the money that counts.
